One of the Greatest Comebacks in World Series History (2002)
In the 2002 World Series, the Giants were up three to2 and looking to clinch the title. They were leading five-zip in the bottom of the seventh. But after one out, the Angels began one of the most memorable comebacks in Fall Classic history. Back-to-back singles by Troy Gloss and Brad Fulmer knocked out the starter who had dominated through seven innings. Felix Rodriguez came in and immediately gave up a three-run homer to Scott Speizzio, making it 5 to3. In the bottom of the eighth, with Tim WHL now pitching, Darren Urstad led off with a solo shot to cut it to five to four. Then after consecutive singles by Tim Salmon and Garrett Anderson, Rob Nen entered the game and allowed a double to Troy Gloss, giving the Angels a 6 to5 lead. In the ninth, the Angels brought in their star closer, Troy Persal, who had saved 40 games that season, and he easily shut down the Giants. The next day, the Angels won game seven and were crowned World Series champions.
In Game 6 of the 2002 World Series, the Giants led 5–0 in the seventh, just outs away from the title. Then the Angels pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in World Series history and forced Game 7. The next day, Los Angeles completed the job and became champions.
