Yankees pick up options for Matt Blake & Tanner Swanson, get Desi Druschel back from Mets

Seeing the list of catchers we’ve put out in the past few years like that is kind of impressive. Definitely a strong spot in a sometimes-worrying development track.

Druschel is great with pitch development, which is something this team could definitely use. I imagine the Yankees are gonna try to get Schlittler to start using his changeup again, and he can definitely help with that. If Schlittler can learn a Clay Holmes style kick change, he’ll be even more unhitable.
Yankees have the best pitcher and catcher factory in MLB. We could trade 3 – 4 of our mid-tier pitcher prospects and 1 – 2 catchers for some small market team’s top prospect just because our pipeline is so well developed and most teams don’t have the pitching labs, coaching and strength/nutrition programs the Yankees do.
Matt Blake and Tanner Swanson are the cornerstones of those programs. If/when a salary cap happens their value skyrockets because trading developed prospects becomes a lot more important.
