We’ll talk about who could be dealt next now before the NFL trade deadline next week. And I’ll tell you why Mike McCoy showed this weekend. He is the perfect tank commander for the Tennessee Titans. Also, we got Cam Ward starting to play better football. Excited to talk about that this week as well. And the Titans need a new head coach. And I’ll be ready to keep you updated on all of the best candidates. But we got to talk about the big trade that happened on Monday. Roger McCreary to the Los Angeles Rams. The details of the trade are not as important as what I think this trade means. And again, I think this is step one of the Tennessee Titans tank drop. I mean, step one was them losing all of their games almost so far, going one and seven in the first eight weeks. That’s obviously step one to be in a tanking team is being terrible. But this is the first move where Roger McCreary was a good player. All right. The only reason that you would do this right now is if you have totally given up on the season, especially with Legarius Sneed injured, Jarvis Brownley Jr. already traded, Daryl Baker Jr. being injured. Like the Titans don’t have any numbers at quarterback. So, they would only make this trade if they are truly committed to losing the rest of the season. And I think that is 100% what they are doing here. They are accepting their reality. They are trading a player of value. They are getting a little bit back. And honestly, like I said, I like the trade here. Let’s just go over the return. The Titans are getting a fifthround pick back and they’re trading Roger McCreary and a sixth round pick to the Rams. And I know on first blush that sounds terrible, but the reality is this is basically a two round jump for the Tennessee Titans because there are conditions on the draft pick. The Titans traded for Ernest Jones, a linebacker a couple of years ago when Ran Carton was in control. The Titans traded their 2026 fifthround pick. So, the Titans are going to get back their original fifth round pick, the earliest fifth round pick that the Los Angeles Rams have as they have multiple draft picks in the round. All right, great. That’s going to be the Titans pick. It’s going to be a top five pick in round five. And then the Titans sixthround pick that they’re sending out is the lowest sixth round pick that the Titans have. The Titans have a couple of sixth round picks. They’re going to send the lowest one that they actually have. So this is actually going to be like a 40 to 50 pick jump in terms of value, which is almost two rounds. It’s about a round and a half at minimum. No matter how things really shake out, that’s where it’s about to be. So, everyone’s going a fifth for a six that but but really it’s about a round and a half of a jump for the Titans. And we got to talk about why Roger McCreary made sense to be traded and why we’ve talked about him for the last couple of weeks. Number one, again, Roger McCreary is a pretty solid player. Okay, he’s a good player. He’d actually have value. The Titans don’t have a lot of good players. What might be the most important thing is Roger McCreary was on the last year of his contract. The last year of his rookie contract was this season, which means the Titans would have to give him a new free agent deal after the year. And based on what we’ve seen here, the Tennessee Titans didn’t want to give Roger McCreary a long-term extension to be a slot only quarterback. So, if you’re not going to resign Roger McCreary and you’re not going to win games with Roger McCreary and he’s going to leave after the season, why wouldn’t you trade him for something? Why wouldn’t you get something back instead of nothing? It’s simple simple logic to me. Now, the question becomes, should the Titans have wanted to sign Roger McCreary back? That is where you you might be able to find some problems. If you think that the Titans should have ressigned Roger McCreary, which I was open to bringing Roger McCreary back, then this isn’t a good trade for you. But I think some of the realities that we have to accept is the Titans are looking for something different in their cornerbacks. McCreary isn’t really a speed demon. He has really, really short arms, really small hands. He can’t make plays on the football. He’s never been a guy that made plays on the football. He can’t play outside. He has no positional versatility. He is a slot only cornerback and we saw him fail over and over and over again on the outside early in his career before it became obvious that he is a slot only guy. The Titans like to play a ton of big nickel where they have three safeties out on the field and instead of having a third quarterback as their slot, they have a third safety as their slot which meant schematically the Titans didn’t need Roger McCreary as much as other teams might. So, I’ll be honest with you. Does it suck that the Titans are tanking once again and looking to sell players away for draft picks? Yeah, it’s not good. That’s not fun. I wish the team was better. But with where the team is and the reality of their situation, I’m sorry, but I think this is a good move. Roger McCreary is a good player. The Titans don’t have any cornerbacks. That’s totally fair. But is Roger McCreary the difference in winning? No, he’s not. They’re losing games with him. And him being a good player that they don’t want to resign after the season is over isn’t going to change the outcome of the year. And it isn’t going to make anybody feel better when they lose him for nothing in free agency. The Titans probably would have got a fifth or a sixth round comp pick for Roger McCreary. So, you might as well go out and get it now when you really need it. And here’s the thing, two fallouts from this. Number one, it’s not just about that individual draft pick. The Titans having a top five pick in the fifth round, people are gonna say, “Oh, what are they gonna do with that? They’re not gonna draft anybody good. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.” All right, maybe not. But what you can do is you could take a fifth round pick and a fourth round pick and maybe get into the third round. You could take a fifth round pick and one of your sixth round picks and maybe get into the fourth round. It gives you ammo to move around. So any individual draft pick in the day three of the draft process probably isn’t going to be too tantalizing and make anybody too excited. But the reality is it’s just ammo that you can use to move around the board. The Titans need to be able to have the ability to move around the board and go get guys that they need at positions they need a lot of help at. So again, I know that in a vacuum it’s not a good move for the Titans, but considering their situation and and the context here, it makes sense. And now the second thing of fallout is the Titans barely have anybody at quarterback. So I think we’re going to see a lot more of rookie Marcus Harris who has great speed, 43 athlete. The Titans need more speed on the field. Maybe Marcus Harris, who has struggled on special teams, can get in and get some action on defense. But with that being said, again, I want to see more trades. Let’s keep the trades rolling here for the Tennessee Titans. A lot more names that I think could potentially be dealt in the next week. We talked about how the Tennessee Titans are starting their tank job. Or well, this is the first step in the obvious tank job with the trade of Roger McCreary. Why I’m not opposed to the trade and why I think there should be more trades. And speaking of more trades, I’m going to tell you exactly who I think should be traded. Before I do though, thanks again for making Locked on Titans your first listen. On tomorrow’s show, we’re going to break down what might have been Cam Ward’s best game as a pro. Made some incredible throws. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a very good performance. And I’m going to pair that with my Tic Tac Titans YouTube channel film breakdown on Cam Ward’s performance that’ll be out on Tuesday. Make sure that you check that out. You check out tomorrow’s episode breaking down some of the film of what I saw not only of Cam Ward, but of the first extended defensive performance of Kevin Winston, some offensive line, some Jim DK and Gunnar Helm as well. A lot to discuss. Make sure that you stay locked in with the Locked on Titans podcast. But again, I think there needs to be more trades, and we talked about it last week about all the different names that I think make sense for the Tennessee Titans to get rid of here. And Roger McCreary is step one. But again, I want to see I want to see more steps taken to dismantling this team and getting as many draft picks as the Titans possibly can. And on the offensive side of the ball, I think the player with the most value for the Titans is Calvin Ridley. Now, the Tennessee Titans can eat some of Calvin Ridley’s remaining $14 million salary. It wouldn’t be that hard for the Tennessee Titans to do that. Makes it easier for them to trade him to another team when there isn’t much as much money being traded out. The Titans would have to eat around $10 million in dead cap next year to get Calvin Ridley off the books. That’s fine. It’s not about again, the Titans would eat the 10 million next year. they would pay the majority of his remaining salary this year to get a third round, an early fourth round draft pick. You know, let’s say the Titans take this fifth round pick that they’re going to get from the Rams or a sixth round pick that they have and combine that with Calvin Ridley to get a third or get a fourth. You know, there are definitely different ways to do it, but I think the Titans have been cautious with Calvin Ridley over the last few weeks, letting him come back from injury slowly cuz they want the opportunity to trade him if they get the right kind of value. And there have been rumors out there that the Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that’s interested in Calvin Ridley and I think that would be a great fit. You have the big physical uh beast and DK Metaf. You get a speed guy like Calvin Ridley in that offense that they desperately need. you have young guys like Calvin Austin and Roman uh Wilson who can be, you know, kind of chain movers and then they use a ton of tight ends. So, I I think that would be a great fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And again, if the Tennessee Titans can get a third or an early fourth round pick out of Calvin Ridley, I think that would be absolutely tremendous. Any more than that, at some point, it’s like we need to get value because Calvin isn’t a free agent. It’s not like he’s leaving after the year. Maybe the Titans have the intention to cut him after the season and move on. Maybe that’s the case. But healthy Calvin Ridley can still help Cam Ward. You can still get the most out of Cam Ward. So whereas Roger McCreary is a hey, he’s a free agent after the year. We don’t want him back. He’s not our style of cornerback anymore because of the short arms and the lack of versatility and ball skills. All right, we don’t want him. That makes sense. But and the defense isn’t getting any better. All right, Roger McCur ain’t going to make the defense any better. They’re terrible. But Calvin Ridley can still help Cam Ward and Calvin Ridley is not a free agent and the Titans could conceivably bring him back next year if they’re unable to upgrade the room or they want to keep him around. It’s not crazy to think that they would want Calvin Ridley back on the field if healthy to help Cam Ward because like we’re going to talk about in a second, all that matters for this team going forward is Cam Ward playing better football and Calvin Ridley can help that whereas Roger McCreary cannot. So, I’m only trading Calvin Ridley. I’m not trading Calvin Ridley for pennies. I want a third or a fourth round pick for Calvin Ridley or I’m not doing it. All right, that that’s that simple. It’s weighing the pros and cons of the move. But if Calvin Ridley is traded, it’s more opportunities for Jim DK, for Alec, Io Manor, guys who also need to take steps forward as we get down through the rest of the season. And I believe that they’re starting to do that. So more opportunities for those guys is perfectly fine. A guy who I think unlike Calvin Ridley, is more likely to be traded is Chicka Conqua. Get rid of Chig for a sixth round pick. I don’t need a lot from Chig. Chick was a fifth round pick to start with. So if you can get a sixthround pick back for him after he showed the player that he is, he’s just a backup tight end. And like Roger McCreary, Chica Conquo is a free agent at the end of the year and the Titans probably aren’t going to resign him. And you have a guy like Gunner Helm who is a better player than Chicka Conquo already. Get him more involved. give all of Chicka Conquo snaps to Gunner Helm and then have David Martin Robinson take the Chicka Conquo role and play less. Why not? How’s that going to hurt the team? Chicka Conquo is like leads the team in catches, but it’s not because Chicka Conquo is such a good player. He’s a terrible route runner and he’s just getting a bunch of dump offs and garbage time from Cam. That’s why his numbers look that way. So, let’s not lie about that. And Chicka Conquo could go and on a better football team be a smaller role player and make an impact. So, I would get rid of Chicka Conquo for a sixth round pick immediately if the Titans had that available to him, which I doubt they do. But, he’s one of the guys who I think is more realistic. Tony Pard is another guy like these teams out here needing a veteran running back to come in and take carries. Why not trade Tony Pard for a fifth or a sixth round pick? Get Taj Spears in there more. Shoot. Play Julius Chestnut. Like Tony Pard isn’t playing good enough football and isn’t running the ball well enough and the Titans run game is terrible anyway. What? We’re not hurting Cam Ward by getting rid of Tony Pard. He’s not doing enough to help Cam Ward right now. Anyways, the Titans aren’t going to keep Tony Pard after the season. He’s going to be cut like I’ve been telling you since the off seasonason. He’s worn down from the workload last year. He’s not the same runner. He can’t be a Bellcow back, a number one running back for the Titans anymore. So, why not get something for him rather than cutting him in the offseason for nothing? I think Tony Pard would be an excellent choice. And now, the last guy that I want to mention is Kevin Zitler. Maybe a better contending team would want to add offensive line depth, but Zeitler’s 35. He’s not playing that great of football, so why would a team give up anything for him? and and not only that, but prot he is someone who is intimately involved with getting the best out of Cam Ward being one of their five off starting offensive linemen. So, if we’re doing a a list of guys who if you if they help Cam Ward the most, it’s Ridley and then it’s Zeitler and then Chick and Pard, whatever. So that’s why I think it’s more likely that Chig and Pard are traded than it is Ridley and Zeitler because Zeitler and Ridley can actually help Cam Ward. But Ridley would have the most value out of any of those guys. So that’s why he’s still at the top of my list of guys who I would trade if possible because he’s probably going to get the most value back if somebody does trade for him. So with that being said though, the defensive side of the ball to me it’s all defensive line teams that need defensive because there’s nobody in the secondary who anybody would want now that Roger McCreary is gone. None of the linebackers the Titans aren’t giving up Cedric Gray and nobody wants Cody Barton on the Dline. You’re not trading to Vandre Sweder Jeffrey Simmons. So Sebastian Joseph Day maybe for a sixth or seventh round pick could help somebody. Ardan Keys name has been out there. Jihad Ward, Draymond Jones. Draymond Jones is heating up. He’s been playing some good ball as of late. He’s on a one-year contract. The Titans probably aren’t going to bring him back. Why not send him out for a fourth or a fifth round pick? Same thing with Ardan Key. Fourth, fifth round pick. I would do that in a second. Now you load up on early day three picks. Look, the Titans just took Chim DK, Gunner Helm, Ela Manor, all in the fourth round. I want Bor Gonzi to have as many early day three picks as possible. So, if you can load up on fifth and sixth round picks that you could trade up back into the fourth round or take some fourth rounders and trade up into the third, like that is what you’re looking for. So, the season is off the rails, folks. There’s no reason to not make these moves if the right value pops up. And again, I’d trade any of these dudes for a sixth or a seventh outside of Ridley and Zitler because why not? They’re probably not coming back and this team isn’t going anywhere fast. But with that being said, again, I think the tank is coming and I think Mike McCoy is the perfect guy to lead it. Do want to let you know that today’s episode is brought to you by Rouette. Titans fans, let’s cap off today’s edition of the Locked on Titans podcast. The Tennessee Titans make a trade trading Roger McCreary to the Los Angeles Rams. I told you I like the trade considering the circumstances. I want to see more trades. We went over my trade candidates who I think could be next. But again, my big picture takeaway from all of this is that the Tennessee Titans are embracing the tank. Now, this is the Jarvis Brownley Jr. trade seemed like it was personality based. They just wanted Jarvis Brownley Jr. away from the team. Questionable, but nonetheless, that seems like that. This seems like a tank trade. Like they seem like different moves to me. This is a expiring contract. We’re not resigning you. Have some value. Get some draft pick capital back. That’s what this is. And we could see more of that. But Mike McCoy is just the perfect guy to do it. And interesting that yesterday on the sideline before these decisions, you have Mike McCoy and Bones Fossil and they’re kind of both looking at each other, listening to the headset, getting advice, and they have a spotter upstairs who gives them advice on go for it situations, what they’re seeing, should you challenge, blah blah. There’s always a guy upstairs who’s having those, you know, decisions. Here’s what the analytics say. we should go for two. There’s somebody upstairs giving advice so that the head coach can make the decision. But I I do wonder if Mike Boronzi and Chad Brinker were happy with the conservative decision- making on fourth down yesterday. I wonder if Chad Brinker and Mike Borggoni know that Mike McCoy is going to be conservative, know that Mike McCoy isn’t going to get this team to any more wins and that’s exactly how they like it. There was an interesting interaction at one of the press conferences last week and uh credit Paul Kaharski who asked the question to Mike McCoy I think it was on Sunday after the game. Usually the head coach does their media availability right after the game and then the reporters are able to go into the locker room and talk to different players and there are certain players who do standard press, you know, at the podium interviews afterwards. Well, the Titans haven’t been doing that. The Titans have been waiting for a little bit before Mike McCoy goes out there and and and Paul asked and Mike McCoy basically said, “That’s what you know I’ve been told to do. That’s what I was asked to do. So, it’s like the Titans are getting together and having some big PR meeting uh with the head coach to make sure he doesn’t say anything dumb or says what they want to say or whatever, which is strange and not common around the NFL for the head coach to allow the players to take the questions first and then the head coach to go out there after. And I think if the Titans are exerting that level of control over Mike McCoy, like we got to have a whole PR meeting before you’re able to do press conferences. Uh we’re going to put you out there last. You know, it seems like the Titans are really trying to keep their thumb on the situation. And it would not shock me if that sort of attention to detail and that sort of level of participation from outside sources outside of the coaching staff are also present in other parts of the football operation dayto-day if you catch what I’m saying. So, I just don’t think that it’s crazy or out of the realm of possibility that Mike McCoy has been directed to be very conservative. You know what I’m saying? I just wouldn’t be shocked. And I think this goes to a larger thing where a lot of people are taking aim at Chad Brinker, some at Mike Borghazi, but I think it’s you’re foolish and impatient if you have anything bad to say about Mike Borghazi right now. Um, but a lot of people are taking aim at Chad Brinker. And I gotta tell you, I think that when Amy Adam decided to fire Rancon and decided to fire Brian Callahan, I think that she has decided that she is going to now be patient and she’s going to be patient with Chad Brinker and Mike Boransi. She is going to truly give them time and they are probably telling her we have to tear this thing all the way down. We are at the absolute bottom. We are nowhere close. This is going to take a few years and you know Rancon was the wrong guy. Brian Callahan was the right guy. But I’m telling you, let’s tear this thing down now. Let’s get as many picks as we possibly can and let me and him, Brinker and Borghazi, let us do our thing to build this back up based on the experience we have from traditional winning organizations like Kansas City and Green Bay. Like I I think this is all connected. I and it may be frustrating to some people because there’s so many people out there coming for Chad Brinker, but I don’t I don’t think Brinker is getting fired anytime soon. I think it’ll be years from now before Chad Brinker is fired because Amy Adam believes in Brinker and believes in Boronzi and she is going to be like, “All right, fine. I got rid of the two mistakes and Cthon and the guy who Carthon hired. All right, I messed up. You guys told me I messed up. Brinker. You advised me on all the things that Rancon did wrong and now you’re my liaison. I let you hire a real football guy just to do the roster. You guys hire your coach that you actually want and I will give you years. I’ll I’ll do the patience thing to build this back up. And remember, why do they need to build it back up? Well, now that Roger McCreary is traded, there is only one player on the roster left from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 draft classes, and it’s Chica Conqua. And he might be gone soon, at least at the end of the year. They’re not going to resign him. That’s why they need patience. That’s why it’s going to take time because they have one player on the roster from three straight draft classes just a couple of years ago. There’s your answer, folks. So, I think Mike McCoy is the perfect guy for the tank job. He’s going to be conservative. He’s going to do as he’s instructed. And I’m just telling you, I think that the upper management of the Titans have their hands on the wheel way more with certain things than uh than I think even we expected or realized. So, I think Titans need to make more trades. The tank is on. Tear this thing down even more. and get ready for Breaker and Burggoni to have a ton of job security the next few years and their head coach that they hire to get three years because now Amy Adams Strunk has no choice but to be patient and let’s hope that these are all the right guys for it. So that’s that’s all we can do at this point. But with that being said again make sure you check out my Cam Ward film breakdown that’ll be out Tuesday on the Tic Tac Titans film channel. That’s going to do it for me today folks. As always, I am your host, Tyler Roland, and this was Locked on Titans.
The Tennessee Titans made one of what could be many trades coming soon as they shipped cornerback Roger McCreary to the Los Angeles Rams with a swap of late round picks. This is step one in what could be a full-on tank job from the Titans down the stretch of this season. McCreary could just be the first of a few trades that could took place before next week’s deadline and names like Calvin Ridley, Arden Key and Tony Pollard should be at the top of the list of candidates. Finally, Mike McCoy had some interesting answers recently that show he was the perfect candidate to lead this tank job, and McCoy knows it.

This team is backups garbage. 2nd round pick an all we get is trash as late round picks…time to burn the gear. On the upside. At least Mccreary going to a contender
Gonna need every pick we can get lol This is a dumpster fire 🔥
Right now, we MUST GET draft picks, we have almost nothing in the roster, maybe 4-5 good names on defense and other 4-5 on offense the rest are backups and practice squad
Hate to say it but we need like 5 drafts of talent to compete for anything. It’s gonna be a long time fellas
What does Brian Callahan, Joe Burrow and Joe Flacco all have in common? Jamar Chase kept all three guys in the league
Y'all should start the corner y'all got on waivers from Baltimore
Are we not losing a compensatory pick?
Sorry but I don't see any difference between a late 6th and an early 5th. Both are very unlikely to produce anything but special team snaps
And we are not gaining any additional pick. Again…
Lockett went to the Raiders!?! What does tht say about the Titans?? Tells me winning wasn’t what Lockett was demanding.. Say a lot about the Titans.. guys do not want to be here and it’s not just bcuz the team isn’t winning
Moved up from ~210th pick to the ~150 pick, will save $10-12mm/yr they can spend on a position thats more important than a slot CB, and if we take a blue chip edge player at the top of the draft then a slot CB becomes even less valuable. It’s a good move folks.
Traded him for a bag of chips. We couldn’t get a 5th straight up??????
Pollard 5th, Ridley 4th, Key 5th, Chig and 6th for a 4th, Zeitler 5th
They wasn’t gonna resign him, so might as well get something for him
We need a coach to put a offensive scheme to fit Cam’s strengths. Who do you think that is out there with experience who would be willing to do that?
I feel bad for Cam Ward. He deserves better than to have his career wasted here.
i feel bad for big jeff. dude just wants to win again.
Unfortunately we are still years away from having a competitive team again
NFWhat?
Trade big jeff and hooker. we need all the picks we can get fellas, trading Jeffrey Simmons would give you so much leverage. I know it sucks but we're looking at the reality
Great Job GM. Thanks for Barton Baker Armour-Davis Sneed Jones Crushenberry Zietler. They are the best
Tin Hat Tyler…. I like it lol
“Collaboration” “Let Amy Cook”😂
Sugar coating a bad trade does NOT inspire confidence in this front office. Why do they have to give up a pick AND a good player for a FIFTH!? If you get a comp pick, that would cost you absolutely nothing. This is insane! Can someone please make this make sense. You can Ran for signing free agents because "you need to build through the draft". Then you draft good young talent then trade them for lower draft comp and throw in picks to sweeten the deal! WTF!!!?
I Like McCreary But Let’s Be Real.. He Got Them Almost Had It Arms!! He’s There To Make The Play.. But He’s Just Too Short 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Tank Commander 🤣🤣🤣 every day Tyler
Unfortunately its about time we acknowledge the inevitable 😢
