🚨The Miami Dolphins Win Against Atlanta Falcons Just Got 100x Better After Seeing This!

[Music] The Miami Dolphins got their second win of the season in Atlanta this past Sunday, 34-10. And after seeing some advanced stats come out, some of these PFF grades for these rookies in Miami, this win is 100 times better. I’m Nick Roloff. This is Dolphin Today by Chad Sports. And you might be asking yourself, we’re two and six. The season’s probably over. How is this win even better than I realize? Well, one, for the crowd that is going to complain about winning a meaningless game in the grand scheme of the season because this team isn’t going to win a Super Bowl or compete in the playoffs and it just ruined draft position. It really did not. If you lost, would you have been in a better spot? Yeah, absolutely. You actually would have been either the first or second overall pick. Right now, you have the fifth pick. So, it’s like you didn’t even move that much off of your draft spot coming into the week. The team that had the number one overall pick, New York Jets, they won as well. So, it’s not like you lost any ground in the loss column or win column, if you will, for the number one overall pick if you are on that side of the aisle. But the reason why this win is even better in my opinion is because we finally saw almost the entire rookie draft class for Miami that they just took in 2025 contribute positively to a win. I’m talking Kenneth Grant, Jonah Savinia, Ali Gordon, Dante Trader Jr. Like it’s the first game all season where you can confidently say almost every single one of them contributed to this win. There have been games where one of them has had a good game. There has been most of the games where all of them have been bad. But never have they all been good like this one. And we’re going to take a look at some of their numbers and stats here. But we are under 100 subscribers away from 77,000. Join the Dolphins Today family for daily Dolphins content. And we will be live on Thursday against the Ravens for Thursday Night Football. So subscribe, join the channel, and be on the lookout for our content. We’re going to start with the sixth round running back out of Oklahoma State, Ali Gordon, because he was actually the seventh highest graded running back in the NFL for week eight on Pro Football Focus. And it’s hard to blame PFF for being so high on the performance from Gordon. I think it is without a question his most productive performance of the year. The other good performance would have been in week three against the Bills where he got a ton of carries and was worked a lot in short yardage. Even entered the end zone on the ground. Gordon entered the end zone once again this week but through the air on a 20 yard screen pass ran that little Texas screen that they love to run for Devon Chan where the running back goes in motion runs directly to the sideline couple steps and then verts back in on an angle with blockers in front and was able to reach the end zone on a great block from Aaron Brewer. He was just phenomenal in this game on Sunday by the way in his own right. Quick sidebar there but you see it he averaged 4.6 6 yards per carry against Atlanta. He was actually the most efficient back. Han averaged about 3.8 yards per carry. Jaylen Wright about 3.1. But OG2 was just delivering big-time runs consistently inside the tackles for this Dolphins rushing attack that had 141 yards. And this is not just a game bygame thing with Gordon. This is the entire season. Ali Gordon has not had that many carries this year. He’s only tallied 23 through the first eight weeks of the year. But if you look at every running back in the National Football League who has had at least 20 carries through eight weeks, Ali Gorn ranks fourth in the NFL in success rate of runs in between the tackles with a 56.5% success run rate. That is fourth in the NFL. The only players he trails is Kareem Hunt, Sam Perine, which I don’t know how that’s possible. and I believe the other one was Jonathan Taylor. Point is, the Dolphins drafted Ali Gordon in the sixth round to be a nice change of pace back with Devon Aan who’s obviously smaller in stature, a kind of speed guy, a weapon. OG, he’s 6’2, 225, built like a truck, and he always falls forward. Those two are going to be very complimentary of each other going forward. And it’s exciting to see Ali Gordon continue to get work and continue to succeed for this Miami Dolphins football team. We’re going to stick on the offense here and move to the second round pick out of Arizona, Jonah Savinia, because without a shadow of doubt, he had his best game of the season against the Falcons. And I’m not going to come up here and tell you that he broke new records and was the highest graded offensive lineman this week. No, he was actually still below average. But based off where we have been, this is a vast improvement for the rookie out of Arizona. He graded out in the mid to low 50s in overall run block and pass block, but he didn’t allow a sack, only was charted giving up two pressures. And as I mentioned, like I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Jonah has been horrific this year. He is the worst graded offensive lineman in all of football, but he has been consistently putting up pass blocking grades under 20 and run blocking grades around the 50s and 40s. So, for him to finally put a game together where it wasn’t so bad in pass protection, that is a good step forward. And I do have a kind of feeling why this was Jonah’s best game that I’ll explain here in just one second. But pin comment on today’s show. I’ve been very worried. I know most of you have been worried as well when it comes to Jonah and his NFL career. Do you feel better after a solid performance against the Atlanta Falcons? Type Y for yes or N for no. I did want to show you his PFF grades throughout the entire season. This was his best game graded by Pro Football Focus since the opening game against the Indianapolis Colts. Like you look at the pass blocking grades, man. I mentioned under 20. How about under 10 where he’s been there in 1, two, three, four, five of the eight games this season, but you do feel like he is getting a little bit better on a week-to-eek basis. And one thing I do want to point out with this still being on screen is the consistent run blocking grades. Are they good? No. Are they elite? No. Are they below average? Yes. But they are his calling card. and that was his calling card coming out of Arizona. He was tagged as a better run blocker than a pass protector. He also was tagged as someone who fit really well in a zone run blocking scheme due to his athleticism and ability to pull and get to the second level. Well, why did he have the most success in his young NFL career this past week against Atlanta in comparison to the other years or weeks? is because the run game was so much of a like key and point driven in this week. Like they ran the ball 37 times and we know Jonah is a better run blocker. So if you get him going like there has been a cliche out there is like hey you call some run plays to get your offensive lineman engaged. You get them firing off the line of scrimmage, get them physical, get them excited and then you could have them bounce back in pass protection and be better. But if you have a more well-balanced offensive attack, it gives Jonah a fighting chance. When you are predictable and one-dimensional and you fall behind early to where you’re throwing the ball 70% of the game and defenses can just pin their ear backs and rush the passer with no threat of the run game. Well, then, yeah, a smaller guard who struggles pass protecting is going to have a difficult time holding his own when the opposing team knows it’s a pass play 65 70% of the time. So, like having that well balanced attack offensively and keeping the defense on their toes is only going to help your young left guard as well. Now, I do want to point this out. When you watch the tape, the all 22, there are still a lot of bad reps by Jonah Savinia. And the part that is the most evident is how he is so struggleish, not a word, making it up with the power rush when he gets lined up one-on-one with a strong, physical defensive tackle and they just go boom right into Jonah’s chest and drive him back. That’s where he struggles. So, if I’m Jonah, I I think there’s a lot that he can work on, and I do think there is a chance he progresses throughout the rest of the season and gets better for his second year, but he’s going to have to really add a ton of strength this year. Lower body, his core, because when he’s getting blown off the ball and driven right into his lap about five, six times a game, that’s just unsustainable. But if he’s able to have a better core, better anchor, and not be pushed back as frequently, it will force opposing defensive linemen to revert to other pass rush moves to where then Jonah’s athleticism and technique could come into play more. But you have to be able to stop the power and bull rush first and force opposing defensive linemen to go to their secondary moves. So, a lot to improve on, but it’s getting better for the young offensive lineman from Arizona. We got more coming up here, but this episode is brought to you by Prize Picks. It’s good to be right. Let’s segue from the offensive rookies to the defensive rookies. And I want to start with the fifth round safety out of Maryland, Dante Trader Jr., who actually was the second highest graded safety by Pro Football Focus during NFL week 8. Obviously, one more game to go between Washington and Kansas City. But Dante Trader Jr. played him one heck of a ball game. He played in 37 snaps, the third most at the safety position. Miami only played three safeties. Dash and Davis getting banged up super early on a special teams play. But Dante Trader Jr. received an 83.7 overall grade and he really excelled in coverage. 80.6 grade by Pro Football Focus. Did not allow a single reception. Wasn’t technically targeted but did have a really nice PBU in a zone scheme. It was actually such a great play. The Falcons had a perfectly dialed up corner route against cover two. Miami was running a little cover two. The wide receiver, Cadral Hodgej, sneaks past that short zone flap right near the boundary before the stick. So, he gets behind him and Dante Trader Jr. reads that. No vertical route, so he doesn’t have to worry about getting beat over the middle of the field, breaks on the ball from Kirk Cousins. And as the ball gets to Cadel Hodge’s hands on the sideline, Trader Jr. comes in and smacks it out and forces the incompletion. That just shows the instincts and the recovery speed that Dante Trader Jr. possesses. It’s why Miami was so high on him when they drafted him in the fifth round and believe that he could be a leader on the back end of this defense for years to come. But I also like the versatility that Dante Trader Jr. possesses. His alignment in this game against Atlanta was all over the place. He lined up at deep ranging free safety 18 out of his 37 snaps, but you also saw him in the slot defending Kyle Pittz at times um and defending some other wide receivers. You also saw him in the box helping stop the run in eight snaps. So, this just goes back to my point like he’s so versatile. I appreciate defensive players that can play all over the field. It’s why Ma Fitzpatrick is so utilized and so important to this Miami Dolphins defense and it’s why Dante Trader Jr. is continuing to get a larger role for this football team. I mentioned it, Ashton Davis got hurt, so that may have played a factor into it. But Miami only played three safeties in this game against Atlanta. Mega Fitzpatrick played 43 snaps. Ifatu Malandu played 44 and Dante Trader Jr. played 37. Those were the snap distributions of safety. So I assume Miami on a short week against Baltimore is probably going to do the same thing here and just run Trader Jr. Melon and Fitzpatrick at safety. And it’s hard to blame him with Dante Trader Jr. getting better and better every single week. Speaking of getting better and better, the Dolphins first round pick out of Michigan, 13th overall, Kenneth Grant. He has been bad, but against the Browns and against the Falcons, you started to really sense him having an impact in the game. And we could talk about the All 22 film. We could talk about the PFF grades all you want, but here’s the truth. When you watch the game live, you know a defensive lineman, especially on the interior, is playing well and making an impact when you it stands out watching the game live on TV. I mean, coup. How many times over the last two weeks have I just literally said, “Oh, there’s Kenneth Grant making a play.” And and it’s sometimes not even making the tackle, folks. It’s him pushing back the center, the offensive guard, and getting an instant impact push in a run play, which kind of makes the running back who supposed to maybe get in that hole next to the left guard. Oh, I have to now bounce it to the outside because this left guard is pushed back in my grill because Kenneth Grant pushed him back and got a great push. Or maybe he swims, gets some pressure on the interior. like you’re starting to notice an impact with Kenneth Grant. He had two pressures this week against the Atlanta Falcons. And as you look at his PFF grades for the entire season and how it is charted, look at how he has played over the last three weeks. Listen, there’s no sugar coating it. He was abysmal through the first five weeks of the year against the Colts, Patriots, Bills, Jets, and Panthers. And I’m not saying he’s been elite, but it has been noticeably better where you can legitimately point on the television during the game live and say, “Oh, that run play tackle by Jordan Brooks one yard downfield only a gain of one that was made because Kenneth Grant got a big push there.” Like it just has been there. Like, and I just want to keep on building. I am not going to sit up here and claim that the four rookies we’re talking about today are good or great selections because that is not the case at this point. Jonah still has been horrible. Kenneth Grant has still been extremely disappointing as has Dante Trader Jr. Can’t say that about Ali Gordon because for a sixth round running back who hasn’t got a ton of work, I think he has been phenomenal in the opportunities given to him. But the other three that we’ve talked about have been non-existent or hurting this team. And it’s unfair to expect the rookies to have such a large impact. And that’s just where this Dolphins roster was coming into the year. But with them starting, maybe, just maybe, maybe I’m jumping the gun here, but with a good performance from all four of them against Atlanta, maybe they are just starting to turn a corner here halfway through the year. They understand the speed of the NFL. They understand the physicality of it. They understand what it takes in a preparation standpoint from a week- toeek basis to get ready for each game. So, just just just stay with me here. It’s something to monitor. This rookie class had a great performance this Sunday against the Falcons. Let’s see if they can build on it and put together another good game on a short week against the Ravens. And if they do that, well, then maybe we’re cooking with gas. That’ll do it for this episode of Dolphins Today. We’ll be back tomorrow with two videos as we get you ready for week nine Thursday Night Football. Baltimore Miami in the 305. Hit that sub button. Let’s get to 77K before kickoff. [Music]

  1. If they can finish 7-2 the last 9 games, they might sneak into the playoffs only to get their a— kicked in the wild card game. Or they try to maintain their high position in the draft and hope for a better season next year. Kind of like left and right side politics. Neither side of the fence looks that good.

  2. 5 of our DBs… FIVE… left the game with an injury… 2 never made it back. What IS it with these guys? Do they not weight training to get stronger. Our guys are always getting banged up.

  3. It looks like we may have created our very own sonic and knuckles with Devon Achane and Ollie Gordon. It was a big win yesterday, and it does change my opinion on McDaniel (and even Tua a little), but my opinion still wont change with Grier. I still want him outta here.

  4. You just said it within the first three minutes the season is over so why win get rid of McDaniels get rid of Greer and get rid of anything of value and let’s start looking for the future 2028
