  1. Unfortunately he needs to go play big minutes and find his game. Keep grinding young fella! 💪🏻

Hopefully Mazur comes up in his place

  2. This is for the best. He’s just not ready yet and needs more time. He was rushing to shoot or pass as soon as he got the puck, he wasn’t playing with poise. I’m excited to see when he returns because he is a physical presence and I really like his overall game. Physically he’s there, the last step for him is adapting mentally.

  3. A 20 year getting sent down after his first set of games is completely ok. Hope he dominates down there

  4. If not for the bad starts of Kasper/DeBrincat, this would have never happened. Finnie fed off Larkin, and Larkin fed of him. MBN never got anything from either JT, Copp, DeBrincat, Kane or Kasper.

Better let him simmer in the AHL and have him come up with some real talent like Danielson. I didnt like the way Steve put Edvinsson down in GR for that extra season, but if the alternative was to have him in the NHL with Justin Holl or Jeff Petry, i would have chosen the AHL also.

  5. I’m excited to see him in GR! Hopefully he gets a lot of minutes and builds confidence.

  6. Seemed like it was going to happen. He’s the one rookie who wasn’t scoring and he wasn’t playing on the PK and not much happening with the second PP unit. I don’t think MBN was necessarily bad, but could probably use some AHL time to fine tune his game and get confidence in his offense.

Now they have a decision to make. He went down before 10 games, so they can slide his entry level contract. Or they can call him back up later on. I’m personally OK with burning a year as soon as possible.

They have enough players for now, they’ve been scratching 2 forwards all year, but will Mazur or Danielson get the call?

  7. This really makes me wonder who is coming on the road trip since Soda and Ras were both scratched in the last game

  8. It’s the right call. You can see visions of the future in his game, but he needs some refinement that probably isn’t going to happen on the 3rd line.

  9. He needs top line minutes. It’s a blessing to get him away from Copp and Compher the line where offense goes to die.

If he continues on the 3rd line here he’ll forget how to score goals. Needs to develop that further. And play with linemates who will feed him and give him opportunities.

  10. He’s going to tear it up down there and come back next year and flourish. Glad he got a look so he truly understands exactly the pace he needs to get his game up to.

Hopefully we see Mazur now he’s earned another look. I’d say Nate but he needs more games after missing time, so far in just one game he’s picked up where he left off though.

  11. I’m actually a little relieved. I think this will be better for him and the team in the long run.

I wonder if Danielson has had enough time to be the call up or if it will be Mazur (or Gustafsson/Holl).

  12. Sucks, but hope he kicks ass in GR, then comes back up and smokes the NHL as well

Really impressed with him so far

  13. Might be the best thing for him, which is most important.

But if this just means Ras or Söderblom getting more minutes, and no one else getting called up, the Red Wings just got worse. Despite his struggles to produce, MBN was still a more efficient and forceful forechecker, and a bigger shot threat than those other guys.

  14. Let him cook. Build the confidence. He’ll be back, maybe (probably?) even later this season.

  15. I dont think he looked out of place at all. But for his pedigree and expectations he needs those top six minutes.

Nothng for him to hang his for. He acquitted himself well.

  16. I mean not a bad audition. Just needs to pick up his pace a bit, but he’ll be a good one.

  17. It’s not that he was bad, but he could be so much better with a little more time and confidence. He’s only 20, too. Tons of runway left.

  18. Hope this doesn’t hurt his confidence too much. Making some mistakes, getting benched and watching your team come back and win a game can be a little demoralizing in a way but he shouldn’t have anything to hang his head about.

He’s got a solid shot, great forechecking and hitting skills. Just has to work on timing and passes. He’s going to be a great player for long time. He will be back soon.

Kid deserves to take a load off his shoulders, get out of the main spotlight for a bit and just focus on his game.

  19. I think this makes sense. For as good as he was during preseason, I think he’s really struggled in the nhl. Bad shot selections, looking a step off, he could use another year marinating before really coming up and doing his thing. Hes clearly almost there. But really they should use this opportunity to bring Mazur up.

  20. Right move for MBN. Wrong move for the Wings. Despite playing significantly less minutes, he’s leading the team in hits. That’s going to be noticeable.

  21. Making the team out of camp is huge and now he has a real taste of what the NHL is. This is likely the best thing for him and his development, can grow his game further in GR and come back better. There’s nothing saying he can’t earn the call back up either if he goes and finds his legs.

  22. I said this is prob what will happen, asked in game day chat and was down voted lol

Seemed like the right and somewhat obvious decision with the ELC looming

He isn’t ready for the NHL or not at least at the risk of wasting a year of his contract.

    Good play by Stevie

  23. Shame, but not unexpected.

He’s had a taste of the NHL, hopefully he goes to GR knowing what he needs to work on and we’ll see his tools come together sooner rather than later.
