Commanders vs. Chiefs REACTION 🏈 Kansas City dominates on MNF for 3rd-straight win 💪 | SC with SVP
Joe, I want to start with you and the question I asked Troy on Countdown. You think about what a month ago we’re down in Jacksonville. They lose that game and they’re two and three and now a month later. I might I’m interested in how different they feel or maybe more so how they feel the same like they felt for basically the last decade. They’ve just flipped the switch, haven’t they? Yeah, I think so. I mean, you know, they they got out to that 0 and2 start and you just kept waiting for it to kick into gear and it’s happened. And I think, you know, they they have more on the outside now than they had a year ago. They had Rice who was out with the injury last year in week four and he was not there. They were piecing it together. They added DeAndre Hopkins. It just it has a different feel right now. They get Rice back. They’ve got Hollywood Brown who was also injured last year. They’ve got Xavier Worthy. They’re adding new pieces like the rookie running back Brashard Smith. They’ve still got Kelsey who’s in better shape than he was a year ago. It goes on and on and on with Patrick Mahomes in the middle of it with a really really good defense. So, what’s not to like? And uh yeah, I I agree and I see what Patrick Mahomes told us that he thinks this could be one of the best teams they’ve had in his time in Kansas City. Troy, sitting down here on the field at halftime, we’re raving about the way Washington has battled over the first 30 minutes. They’re under man. They’re beat up. And yet here it is. Seven to seven. And then that next 30 minutes, I think, really illustrates the way in which Mahomes stresses you in ways maybe nobody else does. When it’s off schedule, it’s just it’s got to be incredibly maddening. And you’ve talked about your admiration for how he plays the game. What’s What’s the second half show that that Mahomes does that maybe no one else does? Well, I mean, you mentioned it and then in the highlights it just it’s it’s play after play that if you can’t get to him, and we talked about it in the pregame there, Scott, that if you can’t get to Momes and get him on the ground, you’re going to have a hard time. You’re going to have a hard time matching up to all the players that Joe talked about. And, you know, you play zone coverage, you can’t stop them, and then when you play man coverage with their ability to separate, but you can put a lot of quarterbacks in this offense and it and it wouldn’t look quite the same because of the throws that he’s able to make. And I mentioned it during the game. I I do think there’s an element for a quarterback that you have to be instinctive in today’s game in order to be successful. And Patrick has that in spades. And then with his ability to to really I don’t like the term make all the throws, but he can make all the throws when he’s in different positions. And not a lot of guys can do those types of things. So he’s an impressive guy. He’s the one who makes it all happen. And for for Washington, they played as good as they could play. They had three takeaways coming into this game. They get two there in the first half and yet they really weren’t able to take advantage of it. And uh they just couldn’t keep score with them once Kansas City got it rolling. Joe, in the pregame, Troy mentioned it was sort of wishful thinking for those that were trying to get the shovel out and throw dirt on Kansas City off that off that, you know, that 0 and2 start. I mean, they feel inevitable. They feel inevitable to me. You share that sentiment? Yeah, I do. I mean, I there’s no team in the AFC that that thinks they’re finished or we’re even close to it, right? They’re the guys that have to play against this team and they’re the guys that have to figure out what Andy Reid’s putting together every week and slow down Patrick Mahomes and find Travis Kelce just knifing his way through one zone defense after another and now all the speed on the outside. Uh and again that good defense which we keep sleeping on but uh statistically one of the best they have been for the now two and a half years. Uh so it’s all here the experience they know how to win when it matters the most and yeah they’ll just keep rolling until uh somebody shows me something different. Well and the Buffalo game will be fun next week in the regular season. Bills have had their answer in the regular season. We all know about the postseason which is what matters. We’ll see you guys in Dallas. Troy, do you have to pick Swag up and drive him to to the game? How’s that work? Well, nobody picks Swagoo up, but you know, he wanted barbecue. I just hope he saves me some. You know, this is what this has become. Right on, boys. We look forward to seeing you guys in your neighborhood next week. Uh, appreciate you guys both for the man sitting next to me. It’s royalty. Travis Kelsey still rocking. Yeah, they are. Um, listen, they’ve been rocking since you had the other Kelsey here, man. When am I going to see my brother up here? You guys are from places in and out. I You know what? I want I would love for him to stick around but he’s got places to go on people to see in his hand by now. He’s an important dude and uh let’s just start with what you did. Look, the game you won that’s important and we’ll get to it. But you tie the franchise record. We we set that up on Countdown that it could happen to do that and to to take a minute in the midst of a a season you’re still playing but recognize what you’ve done over the course of your career here. How do you frame what it represents, man? I mean, look at this right here, man. I just cherish these moments, man. Coming out here, being able to play in front of the Chiefs Kingdom and Ed Arrowhead, we were talking about it during the break, man. This place is special, man. It really is. And I love it here. And uh you know, it in terms of like the the historical stuff, man, I’m still looking at the next game and looking at the next catch and and trying to get better every single day. So, I think I’ll look back at it and appreciate it, but you never know. And I appreciate that. I remember when you sat down with Chris Burman talking about all that you could look at and go, damn, what have I done? And there’s a there’s a lot. But in the midst of it, trying to stay present in the present, recognizing that not a whole lot of runway left, right? Like that’s important, isn’t it? To to maintain his spot right here. 100%. Man, I I got to see my guy Zack Z out here today. We both came in in 2013. Tight ends forever, baby. I love Zack, man. He had a hell of a run over there in Philly and he’s still doing it today, man. While we’re at it, he had a couple of catches. He joined the group with 800. It’s only six of you that have done that. So, we we show him his respect and seeing him, man, and and talking to him, man. We’re cherishing every single one of these games, not knowing how long we’ll be able to do this uh and living this dream as a kid uh every single week and and enjoying the stuff, man. So, this Washington team comes in, they’re under man, but they brought energy. Patrick mentioned that with Lisa Salters. He said they had an energy in the first half that we didn’t have. You kind of catch your breath in the second half. That this the second 30 minutes is what you all are all about right now, isn’t it? You know it, man. And some and you know, it’s the middle of the season. guys are banged up. Sometimes it takes a little bit more to get things going. And uh hats off to them for starting fast, man. But um I think it when you look at the the how everything unfolded in the first half, my drop turned into, you know, an interception, things like that. Like it was kind of us dictating how we were playing and and you know, when uh when we decided in the second half to just rally together, match that energy and play play fast, play strong, play physical, man, we uh we ended up putting some points on the board. And Pat made that point with Lisa like that’s going to happen. But I think what you guys are you’re great at a long list of things, but I think your all’s ability to just flush it and it’s a it’s a cliche, but next play is what I think you guys are as good at as anybody. Do you is that is that sort of a conscious thing? And every single game has its different challenges. You know, you got to kind of figure that out on on the run with the guys that are in the building and the guys that are stepping up in positions uh knowing we were a little banged up today. So, it’s just uh it’s it’s always moving forward, but we got the leadership and we got the head coach to be able to get it done versus anybody. So, I asked Joe this question and I asked Troy this question. I’m going to ask you this question. So, it’s Monday night down in Jacksonville. You guys lose a wild game and you’re two and three. And I I know you guys can tune it out, but you also have the chatter. You hear people talking, man, the Chiefs two and three. What’s going on? This and that. A month later, and I just said to them, you all feel inevitable. What your ability as a group to just hold down the fort until you get everybody back and move forward with the understanding we’ve lived in this space for basically a decade. What what was the month like from Jacksonville to now in terms of where you guys have gotten to as a group? I think the biggest thing is just what what do we see in the building? What do we see on the film? We were we were a handful of plays like five to six plays away from being undefeated at that point, right? And that’s what was real from what I saw on the film. And it was all self-inflicted wounds. And uh from that point on, you just you circle the wagons, man. We got a lot of people that love this game that that love to come in to work and and and build the the chemistry and and and and find ways to get better every single week. And you know, I think Coach Reed does it better than anybody, man. Yeah. But Patrick mentioned like you’re the you’re the head chief. You’re the dude. You’re the guy that sets the culture around here. What does that mean to you? The idea of being a guy that in terms of demeanor and play and professionalism to set the tone for the group. How do you approach that? I’m just I’m just an old lucky dog that’s still able to do this thing, man. And I’m putting on the pads like I’m 15 years old again, man. And um I’m loving every single bit of it, man. That you I mean that’s that’s real that that I mean you’re you’re soon to be bride called you a human exclamation point. And I told you I said I love that cuz I think I I really believe that’s what you are and that’s who you’ve always been. But since I’ve known you and you’ve become a totally different guy because you’re true Hall of Famer at this stage of your life, but you maintain an enthusiasm. Is that is how have you done that? Well, uh, like one of my old coaches used to say, either you’re a fountain or you’re drain, baby. Either you’re giving me life or you’re taking it out of me, man. And I I like to I like to fuel people with happiness and excitement and and get the things fixed that uh that need to get fixed. And at the same time, um, bring some swagger, bring some uh bring some excitement and bring some fun uh to work. And that’s just who I am, baby. Still got some juice. Heck yeah, baby. I got to I got to find a way to get in the end zone a few more times, but other than that, rocking and rolling. Hey, one more time. And then it’s you above priest. I hope I said this on the highlight. I hope the young folks know that Priest Holmes could go, man. You talk about the history of this franchise. I grew up watching that guy with Tony Gonzalez. And um even when I came here to Kansas City, I wanted to watch some film on what these guys were all about. What what’s the kingdom really have in terms of the history and I watched that guy go and go and go and man, it was it was amazing to see just from like the from the from the football views of uh how great that man was. and uh to be in his company or even to be, you know, up here in Kansas City playing in the same jerseys he played in, man, it’s it’s an absolute honor. Well, and you’re side by side and the next one will put you above him for all time. I’m told that Keep the monitor here. We got somebody. There you go. All right. Oh, yeah. All right. There we go. Oh, let’s go, baby. Yeah. There. That’s uh That’s actually what I look like, too, man. No, no, no, no. Just as furry. Just as furry there. Well, maybe that. But you you’ve gotten things gotten things firmed up this year. You’re in great shape. And by the way, you’re always incredibly gracious with your time to join me at least. But yeah, but you could say no because we wear you out. They said, “Who do you want tonight?” I said, “We wear Kelsey out.” Listen, I only come up here if I feel like I’ve played good enough to come up here, man. I told my brother, you never skip out on SVP, man. You get the opportunity. He did that when he was still playing, but that’s another topic for another day. Meanwhile, this man said some history. Kind enough to join us. Stay healthy. I know the buy’s coming soon and you guys could use it to get well, but you guys are rolling and um feels like we’ll see you down the road somewhere important when it gets Keep my fingers crossed and and keep grinding, baby. Appreciate you always. Stay healthy, ladies and gentlemen. The great history making tight end baby. Let’s roll. Appreciate you, brother. First time was here. There wasn’t a lot of punting going on on either side and there were no points on the board. So, that normally doesn’t doesn’t go on. Uh but those fourth downs were big. They do that. They’re one of the more more aggressive teams in the league. Uh going for fourth down and they were tonight. So we were able to stop them a couple times. I thought that was positive. Travis was able to tie all that. Yeah, I was a compliment to him. There have been there have been some great tight ends here over the years. So, uh for him to be able to do what he’s done over this amount of time is is great. He and still, as you guys know, you come out to practice, you see that energy. He’s got energy every day. And he’s he’s not the youngest guy. So, he just goes and goes alongside Ryan Clark as always on Monday nights. And I’m glad the graphic that had Brady and Grank also had Rivers and Gates. People are going to forget those two that were fantastic in their Charger years. And now it’s Mahomes and Kelsey on that list among quarterbacks and tight ends. What stood out about what they did tonight? You talked about their chemistry. How does it show itself? Well, one, Antonio Gates already in the Hall of Fame. Rob Gronowski will be joining joining him there as well. And Travis Kelce is a first ballot hall of famer. But it’s the chemistry between quarterback and tight end. That’s so amazing. Here you’re going to see Travis Kelce on the end of the line. And what he’s going to do, he’s going to run a cell route or a corner route. And what they’re going to try to do is they’re going to push to a cover three. We’re going to be here. We’re going to be here. And this guy’s in the flat. So Travis Kelce is going to try to find this area within the zone to make the play. So here as we start the play, you’re going to see it’s going to be two clear routes on the outside from Taquan Thornton and also Hollywood Brown as Travis Kelce circles into the middle of the field. Watch him find this soft spot in the zone. Pass perfectly laid up by Patrick Mahomes and is there for a big 31yd gain. Now here is the 83rd touchdown of Travis Kelce’s career. A career history setting touchdown. Travis Kelce. Now he’s split out. We call this wide flex. He’s going to run up into the end zone and he’s going to be focused on beating this safety. This is where Travis Kelce gets into basketball. Once he gets a roll out by Patrick Mahomes, he’s going to come up and then now peel away back into the inside. Watch how these two work together as Patrick Mahomes finds space outside of the pocket. Travis Kelce is just going to work here. dicks dips outside right back inside pass the underneath defender who draws up on Patrick Mahomes. Easy pitch and catch for the two Hall of Famers. It’s it’s ad lib and and you’ve we’ve never seen a greater example of them ad libing than right here on this field against Buffalo in the playoffs where literally you see Travis look at him and say he gives him a look and and Mahomes just goes do it do it do it and and they hit the play that leads to the field goal. First off, I love the voice, but but you’re correct, though, right? When you have a player as instinctive as Patrick Mahomes and as instinctive as Travis Kelce, you don’t want to take that away from them. That’s part of their greatness. It’s also unpredictable when you look at that safety and the underneath coverage on that touchdown. Now, they’re in a position where they’re basically playing denial on the best shooter on any team. It’s like trying to cover Steph Curry. And it’s and it’s the off schedule stuff that has to be just infuriating if you’re playing defense against them because you’ve taken away what they wanted first, second, and third. And then it’s the totally off schedule stuff that leads to another But look at the the huge 38 yd gain by Travis Kelce. He was an inline blocker on that play. Patrick Mahomes has a ton of time. He leaks out late. And now there’s a big play that gets a ton of chunk yardage for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. And when this team is playing at their best, those two are locked in with one another. And that’s what we’re seeing right now. Okay, so I mentioned the Kansas City Buffalo game. That was a playoff game. They play again next week. And in the regular season, we know Buffalo has had their number and they’re fun games and we love watching them, but I’m wondering within the grand scheme, Josh Allen, Buffalo, even if we beat him, doesn’t matter. Like we have to beat him eventually in the playoffs. So, I’m just trying to figure out how to frame a game that we’re all looking forward to, but what does it mean? Well, I I think the best way to frame it is if you’re Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, you at least want that game played in your stadium, right? It would probably be the last time there’s a playoff game in that stadium. We know they’re building a new one. And to have Patrick Mahomes come there is so different than coming to Arrowhead and playing in front of these fans where Patrick Mahomes has the comfort of the home crowd. The other thing is is there they are still the litmus test, right? When you play Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, you get to see where you stack up against the best of the best. And when you’re looking at the Buffalo Bills this year, they don’t have a quality win. So to go out and win that game against the Kansas City Chiefs really puts them in a place where they can say, “Okay, we still can’t compete compete with the best in the AFC.” It’s an interesting point because quality wins one thing, but beating this team, I mean, I’m not saying there’s no value. Obviously, you want to beat them. I just think ultimately they know what they have when they they know they have to beat him in January. You you you set such a stage before this game. We were in Jacksonville just weeks ago and in watching that game, we had set one team on a different trajectory because they beat the Kansas City Chiefs. It shows that consistency in this league is extremely hard and no team has exhibited like them. I think I said it on Countdown that night about the Chiefs that for years with Duke and Mike Shashesky, if if you beat them on your home floor, you storm the field. That’s who the Chiefs are. They’re the team if you beat them, you metaphorically storm the field. They look like they’re going to be hard to get in the coming weeks. Absolutely. Tied Whoa. Swallowed a bug. Tied at seven at the half. It was all Chiefs in the second half. They get the victory on Monday night against the team. They’re now 11 and one against all time. That’s Washington. All right, baby. How about those Chiefs? All right. Hey, listen. Great job. Uh better second half than first half. Right. Right. You put it together, put it down. 47% of the time, teams are losing this game. Well, really, it’s 53% of the time teams are losing this game. So, you’re playing against the odds. Did a nice job there. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Hey, great job. Be ready to go next week. Let’s go. Chiefs on three. One, two, three. I said it at the end of the on the broadcast. I mean, he’s just like the true Chief’s chief. I mean, he is the guy that’s been here through the whole thing. Been here with Coach Reed the entire time. And um he helped set the culture, you know? He he helped set the culture of what it what it means and to play for coach Reed to play in Kansas City and I was able to come in and and have that guy to rely on. Um and so uh he’s breaking all the records now and he I mean he he’s all about the team. So I want to make sure he gets that and hopefully we can get another football for him later in the season when he when he actually breaks the record. And what’s it like in that moment when when he has the deflection early? I mean is that even something you you talked to him about? You know him so well by now? I mean how does that No, I mean that stuff happens. Just like I threw an interception earlier in the game. You got to you got to move on from mistakes. Um um and and they they were able to make plays in that that first half, but luckily for us, our defense stepped up and it’s a full it’s a a full team. I mean, the defense steps up whenever we’re we’re struggling and we’re able to go out there and put up points in that second half and that speaks to the the grit that we have as a as a football team. How great about responding, Patrick? How were you guys able to score 21 points coming out of halftime? Yeah, we just when we got in the locker room, we talked about executing, you know, like it’s sometimes you want to press and make stuff happen, especially on a big game like Monday night football. And um we weren’t doing that. they had more energy than we did, their defense versus our offense. Um, and so we had to match their energy and um um execute at a higher level and we were able to do that in that second half and start off that first drive and then we kind of continue that momentum through the rest of the second half. You mentioned the defense keeping on the early struggles that’s kind of been the both sides really playing well. I guess what does it mean to have such a complete effort for several games in a row? Yeah, I think it’s just it shows the growth that we’ve had as a team, you know, um offense, defense, and special teams. I think we’re getting better and better each and every week. And even though we didn’t start start the way we wanted to today offensively, it showed that we can we can battle through adversity and still continue to play the brand of football that we want to play. And um um we’ll have to continue to get better and better. This will be a great challenge this next week. Um and we’ll have to start faster. But I I was proud of how the guys responded in that second half. [Music]

The Chiefs are still the Chiefs.
I WAS THERE
13:43 Mahomes is Emperor Palpatine?
Bring on the Bills Baby
Do it Kelce, Do it!! 😂😂
Until somebody out the AFC stops the Kansas City Chiefs from getting to the super bowl, I am not counting them out
👏👏👏♥️💛♥️💛♥️💛 TK
Kelce looks better prepped for this season. Mahomes-Kelce one of the best ever due…certainly #1 in playoffs history! Keep working Travis, every contribution is valuable 💪
Kingdom coming back.
Nahh talk about how the chiefs would never win another superbowl without tyreek hill media👀
Kelce say he trying to get better trying to stay humble
come on teams in the nfl beat the chiefs
It was good to see the guys catching up with Allegretti after the game!
The big difference nobody talks about his the O line for the Chiefs the last few years had horrible tackle play and now Taylor is much better and the other two this year have been brilliant LT. Defense bends but doesn't break.
Omg, I want a picture with RR❤❤❤❤
They now have a high powered offense with a great defense. They know how to win in close games from the past two years. Mahomes learned to play patient and breakdown a defense within that time as well. They can chew clock, they’ve improved their Offensive Line and got all their weapons back. Kelce has turned back the clock and Mahomes is back to his mvp productivity. They are inevitable.
What’s crazy is, Priest Holmes only played in 65 games for KC. While Trav has played in 182 games. The unsung hero is that offensive line that the Chiefs had in the early 2000’s. I think my wife could’ve scored a TD behind those guys.
Bad game an still 21 point win… should’ve killed the chiefs while yall had the chance
Unless your a KC fan does anyone still watch sports lol. If the same team wins every year what’s the point in watching lol. Congrats to KC but for anyone else what’s the point sports wouldn’t be fun would it? It’s like the Yankees a long time ago. What was the point. It becomes boring does it not.
From the beggining of the season whole league together 1 triple double. Nikola Jokić 3.
The Greatest!
The cheefs dont need to get too fool of themselves. With the lopsided officiating in their favor. Plus didn't the Cowboys just clobber Washington?
2 turnovers on the first 2 drives and cantered to a win with 2 o line missing. Scary hours for everyone but us😂
Every TE got a TD on national TE except for Jake Fegurson thanks alot Dak 😤
Both Travis and Jayson started and will end their careers in the team they started with which is really something.
"Do it" -palpatine?
These two are insufferable, FFS. Aikman and Buck hate to see KC on their broadcast schedule. 💀
Nice to see rice with the fans.
Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes.
