Thank you to everybody who came out and watched a brutal overtime loss with us. The Phoenix Suns drop to the Utah Jazz 138 134. Is brutal really the word for this? Uh, it feels brutal right now for sure. I’m Eric. That’s Espo. He doesn’t think it’s brutal. We got Steven and Ericin here as well. Hit the like button, hit the subscribe button, become a member today. Espo, you you don’t think that was a brutal loss? No, because you had given up all hope essentially in that first quarter. You’d given it up again in the fourth quarter thinking that they were done once it ballooned up to 10. To me, I’m encouraged by what I saw tonight. Would I have loved the win? Yeah, hell yeah, I would have loved the win. But that wasn’t brutal to me. That was actually it gave me hope that what we had heard all off season is actually what this team can be because for three and a half quarters they were tonight. It was that first quarter that did them in. You can’t spot somebody 20 a 20point lead and and hope to win but they came pretty damn close. He said it all. All right. Well next postgame show. The team that didn’t give up. I mean, it’s it’s one thing to have to not give up because of the hole that you dug yourself into, but it also isn’t it’s something that you can you’ve shown to be able to dig yourself out of holes before. And now it’s about doing the things you need to do to not always have to press that button and seeing what that gets you result-wise because we just haven’t seen that part of it yet this season. So, there’s two sides of me right now. There’s a side of me that completely agrees. It’s Espo and it’s Stephen. No, no, no. It’s not even because you guys on the same page. For me, the the loss itself and how it went down to the end, it it is brutal to me just because you lose an overtime game where a couple of things go differently. You’re not sitting in a one and three hole for the season, which again, big picture, it is what it is. Some missed free throws, some tough calls that don’t go your way. That to me, it’s like, oh, that sucks. That stings, that’s heartbreaking, maybe is a better term to put it. On the positive side of things, you did fight back. You did show a ton of heart and you did it without two of your three best players. So, am I like overall depressed from the game? No. But I do think once you get that hope up, the tip in at the end from Mark Williams, overtime you’re like you’re keeping it close and then right at the end you’re in the game. You miss some free throws, you miss a shot, you don’t foul Lowry Markin in for like six seconds. That to me was it was a really heartbreaking ending. Is that a better way to maybe put it? Okay. like you know me. You know me well for you. Yeah. I look I get it from every single game with this game. I get I get it from that perspective. But like I found that thoroughly enjoyable for I did not find the last two two years thoroughly enjoyable. There were moments I was jumping out of my seat here because I had fun. Right. Look, I don’t expect this team to be all that good. 38 is my optimistic number. So yeah, you’re going to have losses. I keep going back to this, but if I told you no Jaylen Green, no Dylan Brooks, and you were still going to find a way to put up 134 points, you were going to fight back from being down 20, you were going to play smart defense, and you got you wound up seeing the team that you were kind of sold on that they’re scrappy, that they have heart, that they have hustle. you probably would have been like, “All right, I I I actually wouldn’t have expected that with those two guys out.” I I don’t know what to tell you if you didn’t have fun with this game. And not you, but other people that I’m seeing around the internet. This isn’t a championship basketball team. I’m sorry to to break that to you. I know, you know, we breaking news. They’re not supposed to be very good. This is a game they could have won. They would have been 500. All right. I found encouragement out of this. So be it. You know, the last what, four years of Suns basketball, there’s been no such thing as moral victories because of the expectations that the team has had. Those expectations are not even close to the same. That opens the door for moral victories. And I will say that tonight is an example of that. last game of a three-game road trip all on the road or obviously all on the road but against a tough team in Utah. Two third or two fifths of your starters are not playing. Mark Williams is still not starting. You break the glass on the minutes total for him in emergency fashion and you get the result that you got which was to come back from down 20 ultimately be jousting back and forth and then give yourself a chance at the end of the regulation and in overtime. That’s a lot. That is a whole lot. It is. It is. And again, I’m not necessarily disagreeing with either of you in that. I I don’t And I know you’re not. I get where you’re coming from because you did we did get our hopes back. Yeah. I mean, the the way it ended. Yeah. I can I can feel what you’re saying. It’s the people that are that are freaking out about it that I don’t I don’t understand. I don’t What were your expectations? Well, sure. I mean, I think that some people just kind of sit back and and it’s just a game-to-ame thing, right? On a game-to-ame basis, you do not want your favorite basketball team to lose. No, of course. And you don’t want them to get 50 put on their head by Lowry Markin, who was incredible tonight, even though he was 14 to 32 from the field, but he still played out of his mind. You know, you you want your guys to never feel like you’re out of it. Now again, macrocosm, you take a step back, you say this is a team that, you know, the ringer said was going to have the worst defense in the league, right? Almost everybody but two people picked their under, which was 31 and a half, which would put them at a bottom three, bottom two team in the Western Conference. I think a lot of people look at the Utah Jazz and say that’s not a good basketball team, which I don’t necessarily agree with in this moment. It all of that kind of comes together. Plus, people for the last couple of years have been expecting this is a team that’s going to win games, win games, win games. And they’re not. They’re not going to win as much this year and it’s going to be ugly. That being said, they definitely could have won this game. Yes, it was in their hands. And it gives me hope that they will put it all together and not have that one quarter where they struggle so mightily and put themselves in a hole. Because if you don’t put yourself in a hole in that first, this game has a much different complexion and there is stuff to build on. You get Jaylen Green back. You make the move to start somebody other than Oso. All of the sudden these things start compounding and maybe you find yourself. Maybe this is the exact opposite of last year where they start 8-1 and they crap the bed down the end. Maybe this is a learning experience in this in this first 10 games where you got to find yourself and then it snowballs a little bit in a good way. Like that it’s game four for God’s sake. That sounds very familiar. Taking these first 10 games to just take the foot off expectations, not overreact to things and just learn. Mhm. That’s what these first 10 games are for the Suns especially, but the entire league, even Oklahoma City, I know I said they don’t have as much to learn about themselves as other teams, but they’re operating without like three or four of their top eight players right now. So, they’re learning things not necessarily about the team, but about individual players at the tail end of their rotation. Everybody’s collecting data, collecting information, assessing, reassessing, shifting furniture where need be. And the Suns are doing all of this without having two fifths of their starters right now. Yeah. Well, look, also if the first month of the season was law and you just ended it there, the Phoenix Suns, congratulations. You won the 2025 NBA championship, right? Again, things can change a lot, but I I’m like a lot of people. I live in the moment. But even me, right, who I would consider myself probably like top 1% most emotional Suns fans in the world. Top one for sure. Top 1%. Who has it? He is He is number one. I’m up there. I’m up there for sure. I’m up there for I know there are some people without a microphone in front of their face that are just like me. Okay, but I I I speak for those people. Now, e even me, okay? Even Mr. I’ll jump and scream at every second of every single game. Can take away multiple good things from this game. But there is there is one thing that I think has been dividing Suns fans this season, and it is Devin Booker’s play. I know last postgame show I was on, we didn’t get into it, but we had a great conversation about it. Tonight, Devin Booker, 44 minutes, 34 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, 11 of 26 from the field, five of 12 from threes, seven of 10 from the free throw line, only two turnovers. I have seen a lot, and I mean a lot of people saying that this was a quote bad game from Devin Booker. What was your takeaway, Stephen, from what we saw from Devin Booker tonight in a four-point loss in OT? You saw people saying this was a bad game. Oh, I can, Dude, I can pull right cuz I didn’t see that. Oh, a bunch of people in our chat. I posted his stats on Twitter. A bunch of people said they didn’t like his game tonight. What do you think of that assessment? I mean, it’s funny to so many people watch box scores and allow for that to determine or dictate what they think a player’s performance was, whether it be just the numbers themselves or plus or minus or both of those things combined. I mean, even on that, he was very good today. But past that, there was so much of the control and manipulation of the game element that I continue to harp on with his growth as a playmaker that we saw on display in today’s game as much as any other game. And I’m double checking this to make sure I’m speaking correctly. And I’m I’m right. He only had two turnovers today. Yeah. Yeah. A game that went into overtime, he played 44 minutes at the helm of everything the Suns were doing because there was no Dylan Brooks, no Jaylen Green, and he did what he did with the ball in his hands. It didn’t felt like it it didn’t feel like it was ever sticky. It didn’t feel like he was making bad decisions in any capacity. He kept the Jazz in rotation. They couldn’t keep up with him. And it got a lot of the shots that you got done speaking about in pregame during the actual game. They just decided to make a whole lot of them getting knocking out 20 of 55 from deep. That gives you a chance to win. And that’s why the assist numbers were instead of the 5.3 that he was averaging, he had 11. I will say this, I was a little disappointed with his shooting in the first half. He he wasn’t he wasn’t spectacular in that in that realm in the first half. Did have good assist numbers, but could have shot a little bit better. But in hole, I’d take five guys with bad games like that. This would have been a different This would have been a much different uh result if you had that. Devin Booker’s threshold is so high because of the contract that he signed uh and the fact that so many people want to say not not a number one option, right? And that’s that’s fine if that’s your prerogative. You’ll always find a way to look at the game and point at something. But when you compare what he did on Saturday against Denver to what he did tonight, tonight was a very good game. a a very efficient in the passing side, not as good on the shooting side, but overall he he played well. Could have could have been better in overtime, but I think they all could have had a few better moments in overtime as well. I mean, Devin Booker was seeing triple teams all night like he always does. And I was somebody who two post games ago sat here and said, “You cannot have five shots in a half. You cannot have 10 shots in a game.” Tonight, he had 26. And even in those shots where it felt like he was forcing it and he missed, I sat back and I’m like, I’m going to live with that because this is Devin Booker, right? And here’s also the thing. Devin Booker had 11 assists tonight. Do you want to know how many players for the Suns shot over 50% from the field today? It was Ryan Dunn who was three for four and Mark Williams who was 9 for14. Other than that, Royce O’Neal six of 17 from the field. Grayson Allen seven of 19 from the field. Kong Gillespie five of 13 from the field. Nick Richards two of six. OSO was one of three. Like Devin Booker had 11 assists and two turnovers and his team did not shoot well. Is he the best basketball player in the league? No. But he had 34 11 and five against a tough Utah team that triple teamed him every single possession and he wasn’t 11 of 35. Like he was 11 of 26. This guy had a good game tonight. I don’t get what people are saying about all of that. Yeah. I mean, Lori Markin was 14 of 32 like and but everybody’s going to say what an amazing game it was for him. I get it. Where where I will not let him off the hook is you can’t go seven to 10 from the free throw line. Yeah, those three free throws uh played big in this game. So, that to me is an issue uh right there. especially there were a few that were in that fourth I believe that that really cost them down down the line. So, not a perfect game, not the best we’ve seen Booker play, but certainly not the reason that the Suns wound up uh losing this game in overtime by any stretch of the imagination. Yeah, again, for me, it’s the balance though. This is something that not just feels sustainable, but there is intentional care with everything that he’s doing with the ball in his hands right now. The 34 34 points is awesome. The 10 assists or 11 assists is awesome. 25 assist points created. So, he accounted for that percentage of the team’s points in today’s game while taking great care of the ball. I think that part is is important as anything because with all the attention he’s getting, if he’s not making sharp decisions to score for himself or to move it, everybody else is going to pay for it. So, him continuing to just keep that blender moving and them making good decisions off of the passes that he’s making doesn’t get direct assist for that, but I imagine he probably had five or six that I could think of off the top of my head of those secondary assists when he makes that initial pass and someone hits it to the person that eventually scores. That’s what the best players need to do. And that’s not that’s not something that all of the best players do as consistently as he does. Could you imagine? Like it’s it’s crazy to me that that he has, you know, 30 plus points, 10 plus assists. Mhm. People are finding a way to say a terrible game from from a guy uh that goes out there. It wasn’t his best game ever. I mean, that’s how high the standard is for him, right? But the guy’s averaging, you know, he’s got 30. He had 30 plus in three games. Three out of four three out of four games. And the one game I got on his case about not shooting. And the games after that he shot, right? And he shot when other people won’t. And and that’s the thing is look, tonight Devin Booker was not a negative for you on the court. And the way that people are talking about him is like this guy sucks. But that’s that’s the Devin Booker experience. We’ve seen it perpetually. Early on, he’d score. he’s not efficient or they don’t win or he’s, you know, a high volume shooter and that’s the only re like there’s always something and the bar moves every time with Devin Booker. Now it’s well he’s 1A he’s that guy and and he has this big contract so that’s not good enough. Well, okay, your prerogative to me. I’ll take this performance from Devin Booker every night and walk away happy. It comes down to the the things on the margins like we talked about offensive rebounding. Uh are you making the right rotations on defense? Are you doing it early on? Like that that’s what this game came down to. It didn’t come down to Devin Booker didn’t make make enough shots. Like it came down to those little things and too much of it failing in that first quarter. Yeah, they had they have to do a much better job of kind of setting the tone for games. um to that point, very first play of the game again, another back door on the baseline from a different team, different player, but the same thing that’s just kind of clipping them at times. And it was a lot of freedom of movement in that first quarter. They did a much better job the latter five quarters or the latter four quarters rather, and just being physical and just having a a little bit more communication, but just more physicality. And they weren’t able to hit as many of their cutters. If they did pass it to them, they didn’t get a clean catch. And that’s what you want more than anything else. We saw a couple of shot clock violations and generally just some kind of shots that they had to just throw up which led to them playing in transition today. Listen, Devin Booker was not a perfect basketball player tonight. I will not sit here and tell you that he was the number one player in the league tonight, right? Devin Booker, for my money is is still one of the best in the league. He had 34 and 11 and five. And people are like, “This guy sucks.” I just I personally don’t get it because people tell me they say, “Hey, Eric, watch the game.” Brother, what do you think my job is? Like I literally sit here. I’m not staring at my phone the whole time. And guess what? That probably could have been about 15 or 16 assists with some really nice passes out of double teams, out of triple teams behind it, like when he wasn’t looking that ended up in bricks because guys were shooting seven of 19 from the field. And I’m not trying to hate Grayson Allen, but he was seven to 19 from the field, 14 to 13 from deep. I Okay, you’re not I mean, we’re not going to change certain people’s minds with Devin Booker. I mean, he could he could shoot perfect from the field and if he had one turnover, it’d be will that pass cost him. Like, that’s just that’s just the nature of this and the nature of the a very divided fan base in some ways still. This is this is what it’s going to be and unless he wins a championship, this is going to continue to be be the narrative. It it’s just the reality of it when it comes in. I mean, I’m good on on the book conversation for tonight. Does does anybody have anything else to add about his 3411 and five with two turnovers performance? I mean, obviously there’s still things that this entire team can do better defensively and and yeah, I need him to hit a little bit earlier, but overall, yeah, I’m not going to I’m not going to complain like anybody else is. the the composure against the double teams for me. I’ve been seeing people talk about they don’t like how he’s picked up the dribble, but he’s done a good job of taking extra dribbles and being patient with the pass that he is making that gets the rotations that they need that blender element. He’s done a great job of kind of manipulating the action and that being a literal offense in and of itself for them and they’re making they’re making good decisions out of it because he’s making a sharp decision there. The other part for me, 15, seven, nine, 10 today free throw attempts for Devin Booker. The best scorers get to the line seven plus times a game and they find different ways to go about doing that in regards to how a game is being called. He’s figured that element out in each of the four games so far to start this season. for someone that can score from the field as much as anybody. If he’s getting the whistle that we feel like he hasn’t gotten in I don’t know how long even the slightest bit of it this season that’s an outlet for him to keep pressure on teams and if he’s doing that in tandem with Jaylen Green when he comes back and Mark Williams if he sustains at a certain minute total now you’re working with something well we’ll talk about Mark and we’ll talk about how much does Jaylen Green change for this team and we’re going to get into everybody who played well who played bad tonight that’s what we do on the PHX son’s postgame show and we’re going to do it all right after our first break. Uh, also what meant a lot to me was the performance of our dude of the night presented by Hila River Resorts and Casinos. You do you at Hila River Resorts and Casinos. Visit playadhila.com for more details. It was in 30 minutes off the bench. Mark Williams, 25 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, nine of 14 from the field. Stephen, he didn’t start, but he sure as hell finished the game. the best game in his short Phoenix Suns tenure for Mark Williams. Yeah, he was he was a presence around the rim in the paint today. You you could literally feel it while watching the games and you could see it playing into the psyche of guys. Anytime a decision was made around the rim, whether that was to make a pass that was outside of where the rim was or to put up a shot, he was very good at just simple enough just being big and allowing for that to have impact. Uh the other things I like too, uh five offensive rebounds for Mark Williams and he also got to the free throw line nine times as well. So he had a solid kind of blend of everything that he was putting forth on the game in terms of impact. And I think again I don’t think it’s something we can overlook as far as the 31 minutes goes because maybe that’s the maybe that’s the point where they say, “Okay, we can incrementally work his minute total up and maybe he starts coming back home.” He really tied the lineup together, if you will, as the dude of the night. You guys obviously don’t know the big Lowski well enough to get that. But honestly, uh when you look at at what Mark Williams did tonight, this is why you got him. Energy, rebounding, ability to score down low, uh defensive ability at the rim. The plan is uh is, you know, working out right now for him. The the question is at what point will he be able to step into that starting lineup? because it’s very obvious that this team’s better with him on the floor. Uh, and can he get past that at 30 minute mark? Can you start him and still play him enough where he has that impact? Because he is an important part of what they’re trying to accomplish, especially while you’re letting Kaman Malawatch figure out what it’s like to be in the NBA. We can get into it later, but I don’t think OSO can continue to start for this team. I think it’s impacting how these games are are going early on. You need a bigger body. You need a guy that’s that’s more of a rim protector. Whether that’s Nick, whether that’s Mark, one of those two guys needs to start for this team. And Mark is the logical guy, but it depends on what the medicals are saying to them and how they want to go about it. But tonight, he did everything that you brought him into in here to do. I would not understand if Mark Williams is allowed to play 30 minutes off the bench but not 30 minutes starting. Well, that’s that’s kind of the thing to me where tonight I was keeping track of his minutes when he subbed in about 2 minutes in to the second half. I’m like, that’s the earliest that he subbed in. And then he played into overtime. Look, I get the plan and I understand the plan. We all want Mark Williams to be healthy long term. The Phoenix Suns want Mark Williams to be healthy long term, but he’s not sitting out games. Well, instead of the back to back, which I think will continue, but if he plays, this guy needs to start. Well, the the question is how does he respond to playing 30 minutes? I mean, we’re going to find out uh over the over the next day and and into Wednesday’s game how how he actually responds to it because they’re bu they were building up to it. They’re building up to to bigger minutes. There is a caution here. How long can you play it as a cautionary tale? At some point you need him on the floor and you need him starting. Yeah. Well, the thing is though, they’ve been so cautious with the plan, Stephen. The plan, the plan, the plan, the plan. You’ve been there in person. You’ve been hearing about the plan in person. There’s no way that he plays this amount of minutes on a whim, right? There there’s just they’ve been so calculated with everything and it’s worked. He had 25 and 11 in 30 minutes tonight, missing five field goals and got to the line nine times. He he had a couple missed free throws and that sucks. But th this guy would play a massive role in helping the Suns sustain these early parts of the game where they find themsel themselves down. And if he’s going to play 30, I don’t see any reason why that 30 can’t be starting. Yeah, I think I think y’all are both making good points as far as the plan, as far as this game suggesting that he might be capable of playing an uptick in minutes, whether that gets him to 30 or whether this just him being with the starters and then seeing how he responds over the course of games now that he’ll be back home for the next three. Um, I think they have some decisions to make from it and I think it’s going to start with seeing how his body feels tomorrow more than anything. I think that I don’t know if they’re going to practice because they’re obviously traveling back and then they play on Wednesday against Memphis. But I imagine they’re going to test him out, see how he’s feeling. Um, and if he if he responds well to even like a mini workout tomorrow, maybe we see him in the starting lineup. But I think the way that the schedule is set up for the next three games at least, that’s a stretch of games where it feels like you’re going to need his presence to help set the tone that you desire. Let I mean, let’s be clear though, they weren’t planning on playing him into the 30 mill minute minute range. I’m not planning on that. If he plays like this every night, he’ll be in the 30 million range, but in the 30 minute range, because they weren’t planning on overtime. Yeah. So, once they got to that point, it was like, hey, we’re pot committed. He’s already a big reason why we’re here. We’re going to continue to play him. I’m guessing that was above the minutes range that they had desired to play him and they pushed it because of what he was able to accomplish in the time he was in there in regulation. So, well, yes, but at the same time, before you knew it was going to OT, he was checking in 2 minutes into the second half, right, which was way earlier than he usually did. To me, it just I I couldn’t see them doing this on a whim, right? I don’t think that they would have allowed Mark Williams to play 30 minutes if they wouldn’t have allowed him to do that in regulation. He was at about 26 in regulation. I think that’s exactly where they want him based on everything we’ve seen. I don’t think he plays OT. If they if they’re if they’re really that worried about it and they’ve been so strict with it, I don’t think they play him the extra four minutes in overtime. They might, but then that might cost playing him additional minutes coming up on Wednesday depending on how he reacts. You could you imagine if they had sat him in overtime and the explanation was minutes restrict everybody would lose their goddamn mind if that was the case. So I think you push it and then you maybe pay for it on the back end by having to play him fewer minutes on Wednesday. I like that’s there was no way that they weren’t going to play him. Even if that if that number was 26 and they went to overtime because of him, they had to play him. There was no choice. Yeah. Um I guess if we’re rounding out the conversation, um the other two things that stand out for me, he didn’t have any assists, but the usage for him on the offensive end because of him playing more minutes, especially with the starting group and especially with some of their starting guards, I liked it a lot. not necessarily a playmaker, but helping to connect things for them just in getting into handoffs and things like that that’ll get them in moving or get them downhill potentially or at least bring them a double team, which they were able to play off of and did so well today. And then the other thing for me, the defensive end of the floor. So, when I spoke with Jordan after the first game, it included Mark Williams with it, and we’ve seen it in each of the games that he’s played since. And that’s them. He’s just he’s not just sitting back in the paint like a traditional big. He’s playing closer to the level. He’s getting up and literally switching on the guards and doing a good job of just blinding their airspace and just blinding their vision as well. That’s not something I necessarily knew that he could do in a consistent sense prior to coming into this Suns context. If that’s something that sustains and he upticks his minutes, that’s a layer of activity that’s going to help the Suns get out in transition and play more to that. I also just loved his his aggressiveness, his effort. I mean, the the second efforts when it came to rebounding, all of that really really played well into what could the future of this team look like with him and then what could it look like when it’s him, Dylan Brooks, and Jaylen Green all starting alongside Devin Booker. But before we get to what it could look like in the future, we still have some bluecollar boys we need to get to tonight. We got to look at the numbers and then I think there are some poor performances we need to talk about tonight as well. We’re going to get into that and then look ahead to Wednesday. And we’re going to do it after our second break. I know usually we like to be fun and joke around on these ad reads, but look, it is time to get serious because a serious injury or an accident. Reminder, if you’re new around here, PHNX Suns pregame, postgame shows for every single game. Plus, we do some watch alongs for some as well. Plus, we do some watch parties out at Hila River Resorts and Casinos Wild Horse Pass. So, make sure you’re on the lookout for that as well. We are always on the lookout for some Blue Collar Boys. Emphasis on plural. But let’s start with one who played 45 minutes tonight getting the start with no Dylan Brooks. Royce O’Neal. You are a bluecollar boy. 17 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals in 45 minutes. The shooting percentage, Stephen, it wasn’t pretty. But sometimes a blue collar boy gets it done even when it ain’t pretty. I mean, this is what I was kind of getting to in the pregame cuz he’s the guy that can most replicate some of the things that you get from Dylan Brooks. Now, obviously, it’s not copy and paste because they’re two very different players, but they are similar in being the two bluest or blueco collar guys that the Suns have this season. Feel like we established that going into the season last week for that reason as well as some of the heady high IQ moments that he’s able to kind of put forth on both ends of the floor. It just made sense for me to for him to be in that spot because it felt like that he would be the person that got the most trust to go and guard a Lowry marketing to go and have to tussle with Kyle Filipowski to maybe get switched on to a Walker Kesler and just simply box him out. Not necessarily do something that’s going to get you in foul trouble, but just be steady and solid. And that’s kind of Royce’s MO at this point in his career. Steady and solid. The shooting usually goes up and down, but he’s usually going to do more to help you than he is going to hurt you. And that’s exactly what he did today. No. And he went out there and 46 minutes. I mean that’s that is at the end of a road trip. That’s crazy. I mean that that’s Yman’s work. He went out there and took care of it. We talked about it where he gave you the best chance from a shooting perspective as well in replacing uh in replacing Dylan. Went five of 12 from deep. He’s one of those guys that Devin was finding early on for open shots uh and wasn’t hitting them. We know he’s streaky tonight. He found that stroke and and and played well. 13 rebounds for a team that needed it uh more than ever tonight was great. And offensive rebounds with those five. We’ve talked about it. They need to get those second chance points because sometimes they’re going to miss shots. We know that. But if they can even it out by getting on the offensive boards, it’s huge. Overall, this was the the kind of performance that you need from Royce O’Neal. not maybe this many stats, counting stats, but the effort is why he’s so important to what they’re trying to do and trying to establish. Yeah, if he can channel some of this energy that he had today and bring it off the bench, that’d be great. I mean, look, if you watch the pregame show, you know that I wasn’t the biggest fan of him starting, even though I understand why it happened, but he was exactly what the Suns needed tonight. I mean, 13 rebounds, it’s got to be a careerhigh for Royce O’Neal, right? If if Go ahead. I I mean, it’s got to be a career high for him. And by the way, they actually even took a rebound away. He had 14. Look, I get that he is not going to be a guy that should be starting for this team and that he’s also shooting six to 17 from the field tonight and five of 12 from three. But you you needed those shots the same way that when Dylan Brooks starts, you need those shots. Royce did everything that he could have asked for tonight. Plus, he had seven assists and five steals. 17 137 and five in 46 minutes. I have to say one thing though, please. If we can be a little honest here. Sure. Can the man make a damn layup? Bro, he dunked today. Can Can the man Yeah, I’d prefer him to dunk because he can’t lay it in. This is a problem the last two years. I I He deserves blue collar boy. Pat him on the back. Uh the layup thing still drives me nuts. You can’t hate to break it to you. It’s not happening. I I don’t expect it to at this point. It was just if we’re going to if we’re going to be honest, that was the one thing that drove me nuts about him tonight and has over the last year. So to to uh answer your question, he has multiple 14 rebound games and his career high he’s done it multiple times. 15. Jeez, Roy. And I think both 15 rebound games came in Brooklyn. That makes sense. They had he’s playing a four next to KD. Yeah, you know how that go. Um, but yeah, that’s the type of guy that every team wants to have one or two iterations of, and the Suns have two iterations of it between him and Dylan Brooks at this present moment. Now, when he’s clicking, that’s a gamechanging type of piece that you’re bringing in as your third or sometimes fourth reserve depending on who you’re going up against and what your rotation looks like. He brought it today and we know he’s capable of doing this on any given night. We’re also aware that he’s capable of having a 0 for six or 0 for seven type of three-point shooting game. But my the thing I appreciate about Royce is he’s going to bring the defensive activity in some capacity. Might not always in steals. He might not always be the most effective defender, but he’s going to bring a certain type of activity that helps you build out lineups outside of your main five players in the Milham starting lineup. And that matters a lot. I think he raises the floor in that too. That that effort. By the way, Meatloaf says, “If hitting the rim was one point, we would have won by 20.” You got to account for how many times they hit the rim as well, though. Got to account for that. So, by my money, there were three players for the Phoenix Suns tonight that started that should be coming off of the bench. Grayson Allen, Oso Gdoro, and Royce O’Neal. Now, Oso obviously has been a really big topic of conversation. We can get into him a little bit later once we pass the blue collar boys. wasn’t the best game from Grayson, but those three guys specifically when they are coming off of the bench in a more simplified role, if they can bring what they have brought at some of their highs this season while the Suns replace them with Mark Williams, Dylan Brooks, and Jaylen Green, I don’t care what anybody says. That team gets significantly better. Now, are they a 50- win team in winning the Western Conference? No. but significantly better when you add your second best player who hasn’t played yet this season. Your third best player who didn’t play tonight and possibly your third best player in Mark Williams who hasn’t started a single game for you this season. I love Royce O’Neal, Grayson Allen, and Oso Gdaro. I think they could be parts of a good basketball team. They absolutely should not be starters on a team right now unless Grayson Allen is completely solidified by a highle playoff roster. So, these are guys that should be off the bench for the Suns that are starting and they still found a way to compete tonight. I will say that if Ryan Dunn does not find some offense, you might have to consider Royce being part of that lineup at some point, too. Dun’s first bad game of the season. Well, he hasn’t been great offensively at any point in in this season. He’s been okay. And if if this team continues to have some slow starts, isn’t hitting from deep, you might need to look a at having a guy like Royce have some spot starts. So, but I to your point, I agree. When you get some of these guys back, all of a sudden it starts to make more sense as to what you were talking about in the off season. We have zero clue what this is going to look like with Jaylen Green and how this offense might blossom at that point and find a whole new level. defense. I don’t think that’s gonna he’s going to change that like we talked about, but a Mark Williams stepping in uh to the starting lineup certainly will. Are we on we’re on Grayson or we’re on uh whatever you want to do. We haven’t gotten to the to to the second board. Okay. I just wanted to make sure I stay on top. Um, for the the Grayson part for me, it feels like because there’s certain not even expectations, it feels like people just have a lazy eye when it comes to the impact that he has outside of shooting the ball from deep because I I watched Grayson the last couple of games now go and find ways to get paint touches, run a lot more well the whole season go and run a lot more offense in terms of initiating outright the offense. or initiating the points of attack for them. And that unlocking and allowing for Deon Booker to do the things off the ball that make his overall blend so kind of versatile in the ways that help him be the best version of himself. It’s not a steady night of one thing with Booker. And because he’s getting in that, that’s a direct kind of correlation to what Grayson Allen is being able to step up into in terms of usage. He’s been good with that. And I think he’s been doing if he’s doing this with, we talked about it during the game, if he’s doing this right now without Jaylen, I’m imagining how that’s gonna help for them to unlock some new things once you now have him in the role that you built this roster and desire for him to be in. So kudos to Grayson for stepping into a different role because he’s probably done it as much as anybody else that’s been playing in the main rotation. Him, Oso Gdaro, Royce O’Neal, these are guys that have been tasked to do more than what they should have been doing and what their roles realistically are. when this roster was built, Grayson didn’t have a great second half, had a great first half, but still found ways to impact the game. And if he can do that off of the bench, when you have your second best shot creator and and shot maker and Jaylen Green starting, if Royce can do that off the bench, if OSO could do that off the bench, this team gets a lot better. All of them, I believe, are still good basketball players. I wouldn’t say any of them are great basketball players at this very moment, but good will be good enough off the bench. But there was one guy off the bench who was a bluecollar boy. We’re going to tell you who it was. We’re going to look at the numbers and we’ll tell you our favorite play of the game when we continue here on the PHNX Suns postgame show live from Hila River Resorts Casinos Wild Horse Pass. We are going to do it all after our final break. Can’t go without mentioning a plus 19 on the night for this individual. Off the bench in 32 minutes, but most importantly, 15 points, 13 assists, three steals, and one block. It is Colin Gillespie, bluecollar boy number two of the night, Stephen. And uh he got the job done. Where do we get this glamour shot of Colin in this graphic? All right. Looks like he’s on a Cole’s Cole’s ad. Anyway, Stephen, about our favorite Cole’s model. Uh, 32 minutes tonight, 15 and 13 for the guy. 32 minutes, 32 assist points created from Kyle Gillespie. Villain Jr., they don’t have the overtime stretch without him knocking down those back-to-back threes in the fourth quarter that he did. One of them stem from defensive activity that he started that Royce was able to get a steal from because of the rhythm of the ball handle being completely thrown off. He set that table, Royce got the steal, they came down court, ball swung around, he ended up knocking down the second three, I think it was. He just finds ways to have impact in the most timely of moments. And that goes back to last season when he was given minutes and he was like, “Oh my god, this guy can play.” And unlike what happened with the former coach with some of the other players that showed they could play, he gave him incrementally more minutes in a bigger role and he saw a positive result from that for a majority of the rest of that end of the season. Colin is just a winning basketball player. One thing winning basketball players are going to do because it’s just baked into their DNA. They’re going to find ways to have a positive impact on the game. Sometimes it might be scoring, sometimes it might be assists, sometimes it might be defense, sometimes it might be all three of those. Sometimes it might take you getting an elbow from Larry Markin in the face because you’re trying to force a jump ball. Those are all the things that he’s more than willing to do. And Colin is a winning player for those reasons. Exactly. He is the archetype of what this team wants, especially from a bench player. Comes in, does his role, works his ass off, and and does it on both ends of the floor. Not going to be perfect. That’s not the expectation with him, but he’s going to do those things and he’s going to get his teammates fired up and he’s going to put his teammates on the offensive side in a good position to score. Colin has been impressive this year and he caught my attention last summer league when they signed him because he was very confident in the fact that he deserved his opportunity, that he thought he could be the backup point guard that this team needs. And I think you could argue he may have even been that last year as well if he had been given more of an opportunity when games still had an impact. Is he going to be the best player on your team? I hope not because that would probably mean you have a lot of issues in terms of it. But is he the kind of guy that you need to be that connective tissue for a team that’s going to try to build a culture and and try to build a winning way? 100%. This is four games into Colin Gillespy’s time as a full-time member of the National Basketball Association. 15 and 13 and 32 minutes. Yet another guy that when Jaylen Green and all the starters come back will be put in a better role to contribute and to channel that energy. He is on the long list of Suns players right now that are be that are asked to do more than what their role has been carved out to do. But he has continued to step up night in and night out. He might have some untimely turnovers. That sucks. He might miss some shots that are open. That sucks. But again, he’s four games into being a standard contract NBA player, by the way, on the minimum for one year. And he’s able to be a positive and a plus player for you tonight. Uh I’ll I’ll rock with Colin Gillespie. I’ll ride with Colin Gillespie. And I think that he ends up being a very pivotal piece of why this team ends up being better than what they’ve shown through four games so far. Yeah. and he’s the kind of guy that Phoenix fans wind up falling in love with, you know, that that bench guy that just puts in all all the effort. Uh and and I love that. But I I do I think we’d be remiss if we did not mention an honorary bluecollar boy in and Isaiah Li. Yeah. A lot of people went, why the hell is he getting the minutes before Rashir Fleming? He went out there and showed you he he deserved it because he went out there and he he had an impact at a time where this game could have easily gotten completely out of hand and ended for this team. He went out there solid defensively. Had a couple moments offensively was energy, instant energy and engaged with his teammates. That that was a surprise for me. I joked on on Twitter that it was like finding a 20 in your laundry. Uh you didn’t expect it, but it was nice to have and that was exactly what Livers did tonight. Do I think he’s a main part of the rotation or a guy in the rotation? No. But he took advantage of an opportunity in a moment that this team needed some juice and he gave it to him. He almost caught a body too. Yeah, a nerd. He almost caught a body in the process and that would have been something that all Suns fans would have grown partial to him for. We would have built him a converted that I’m already building it for sure. But yeah, that speaks to I think the the Colin part is a bit of it and I think the transition point to to livers is probably the most recent example of it. And that’s the culture that the Suns are working to establish. Because if you’re having these guys that are coming off the bench and everybody’s bringing their specific type of activity to the fold, sometimes at the drop of a dime, no one had Isaiah Liver’s minutes pencled into a game like tonight, even with the injury adversity that the roster was up against. Yet and still, he comes in, gets an opportunity, and gains a second shift because of how impactful his first shift was. just steady, solid, doing the little things that they needed him to do. And again, that’s an that’s a specific example, especially early on, of what it is they’re working towards. Yeah, he was great. We’ll talk about no rookie minutes and a couple other players tonight. But before we over time, we do have to get to by the numbers presented by Desert Financial Credit Union, Arizona’s number one credit union, named by Forbes, Stephen. Of course, the biggest number is the Suns lose 138 to 134, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. No, it does not. Um, I think I start with, first of all, seeing a triple digit number of field goal attempts always throws me off, even if it does come into overtime. Nonetheless, the Suns get up 106 uh, field goal attempts, and 55 of those come from beyond the three-point line. So, that’s something important to kind of keep an eye on as they continue to trying to iron out their identity and approach on the offensive end. um them shooting 36% on those 55 attempts though, that’s something that again I don’t know if that’s sustainable for them, but if they’re able to just knock down whatever volume of attempts they get up, that’s going to be a mathematic way that they can kind of chip away at the the margin of deficit that they’re at. Uh other big thing for me, it was part of the game because of the three sevenfooters that Utah starting, but almost 20 almost minus 20 on the boards is that’s rough. very very rough. However, to get back to the positive side, because there were a lot of positives, 37 assists on 45 field goals made. A+ plus plus plus for the Suns. Only people that should be creating for themselves are Devin Booker and um Jaylen Green. Yeah, that means that anybody else that’s scoring it should be coming off of passes and sequencing with one another. We saw a whole lot of that tonight. You can’t lose the offensive boards by 10. Yeah, that again one of those little things but starts to add up. Free throws. It looked like it was going to be another night where the Jazz dominated the Suns from the free throw line like we saw the Clippers and the Nuggets do, but the Suns turn that around. They closed that gap, but you got to make them. They missed seven of them. That’s another small thing. Again, small things add up for this team because we know uh that they’re going to be at a talent deficit on some nights. Overall, again, little things you clean up and you see progress. You see things start to come into focus. And yeah, I know moral victories suck, but sometimes early on when you’ve changed almost your entire roster, you changed your coaching staff and you’ve changed your philosophy. Moral victories are what you build on early so you get actual victories later. Real quick before you go, Eric, you mentioned the offensive rebounds for Utah. 28 of them for them. 33 second chance points. That’s always gonna clip you. I don’t care how much effort you put after that. Go ahead. No, I mean it’s it’s true and I want to get more into the numbers when we get into overtime. But before we get there, I do want to get into our our play of the night. It’s time for love the play presented by Arizona Lottery. Your friends at the Arizona Lottery play and gift today. Espo an offensive rebound of our own is the play of the game. Oh my gosh. It was when, you know, Royce got that rebound, missed the shot, and then, uh, you know, Mark Williams put it in late there in the game to force this overtime. That was a moment that everybody that was here was on their feet screaming. It looked like it was it was done. Uh, and Mark Williams stepped up in a big way. Uh, very impressive by him and it is easily our love the play for tonight, the play of the game when it came to the Phoenix Suns. Any competition for play of the game? Maybe that wild book three at the vend that he he kind of low-key got fouled on call. The crazy the crazy I think it was maybe the first one. The crazy kind of like turnaround one. Um Mark Williams open transition from Colin was fun. Oh man that that and one load had to reach back for that thing. That was nice. That was fun. Anything else? Anything else stood out for him tonight as far as Grayson was the sham god in transition. What the hell? And he hits was it Colin or Royce for for three on bro? A sham god from Grayson Allen as a sentence. with the left hand though too. Usually people can do it with their strong hand. Eritton, you know this better than anybody not name me up here. But doing that with your off hand is very very very I know it too. Stephen I heard you say it. I’ll tell you what. I’m hitting Ben Garcia with the sham guy. I’ll tell you that right now. Oh, I thought you said sham wow. I know about that. I don’t know for sweating and slipping on the floor. That’s what I thought we were talking about. Uh I think the other one was Royce winning that uh winning that jump ball. Yeah, that was nice. It’s not it’s not a sexy play, but that was that was pivotal. It it gave them the opportunity at the end. So, no, I I 100% agree. I think there were a lot of plays that that we could choose from and uh we’ll talk about how some guys played and we’ll continue to get in this game. We’ll read your super chats, but if you are watching on TV, just a reminder, the party always continues over at gophnx.com. It is time for overtime here at Hila River Resorts and Casinos Wild Horse Pass. If you’re not with us here in person, which of course most of you aren’t, please do us a favor, hit that like button, hit that subscribe button, and make sure you tune in tomorrow. We’ve got a 3M show to kind of take a look at the Suns season as a whole so far. And then back pregame, postgame on Wednesday as the Suns return home against the Memphis Grizzlies. Uh I know we kind of squeeze in a lot there at the end of the show. Uh, do we want to go back to Colin or Royce or any of the blueco collar boys or anything? Or are we ready to talk about Ryan Dunn’s game, Oso’s game, or the fact that the rookies didn’t play tonight? Let’s get into into the other stuff real quick. You got one more number wise, hit me with a 25 fast break points for the Suns. That’s a season high for them. That’s an indicator of their defensive activity sustaining to a certain level. That’s by far the most points they’ve gotten in the open floor this season. That’s a context of play that they said they want to spend a lot of time in a lot of time in and they did that tonight. Yeah. Okay. Uh Ryan Dunn by my money had his first bad game of the season. I know that a couple people in chat would disagree with that. Uh only played 17 minutes tonight, seven points, two rebounds, and an assist. He has not been the best offensively. You said it earlier, Espo, but so far this season, he has been somebody that’s been extraordinarily uh extra with the extra efforts, the bluecollarness. I mean, averaging almost 10 rebounds a game going into tonight. It clearly wasn’t the night for him. This was a tough lineup to go against. I Is there any worry about Ryan Dunn in the starting lineup or do we feel like he still has a place there? No, I mean I think you can hide offensive deficiencies more when you get your true starting lineup with Jaylen Green uh and Mark Williams and you can you can deal with that because he brings a a certain amount of defense, high high level defense, especially next to to Dylan Brooks. But my point was simply there may be times where you need to get a little bit more offense in there depending on on what’s going on. I think he he is going to start for most of the season, but there was a lot left to be desired tonight and there was a reason why his minutes got got, you know, eliminated towards the end. Ryan is entering a little bit of the danger zone for me. Danger zone. Espo, you weren’t on during the summer when we were having these conversations, but I said it about him. I said it about Oso. And I said it about me man and that’s those three guys have to have specific impact on offense to where teams aren’t okay with just putting for Oso and Malawatch smaller players or wings on them and for Ryan team stashing their centers on him because yes he can you can flip that and make him a screener but if he’s not making short roll decisions or that’s kind of putting a snag in the half court offense you got to go to somebody that can space it so that the team can’t make those decisions. In the last, well, two of the last three games against the Clippers and against the Nuggets, we saw just that that danger zone dynamic where teams are okay cross matching him and his defensive impact is there, but it’s not loud or disruptive enough to overcome the impact in the half court of teams kind of defending him in the ways that they are. This is a tough play because we’re only four games into the season. Yeah, and that’s kind of my thing, right, is you saw Ry something happened in the World Series. Uh you saw Ryan last year, he would benefit the most when he was sharing the floor with the best offensive players, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant. Like these are guys that brought so much attention off of Ryan Dunn that he had a lot of room to operate. Does Ryan Dunn need to be better offensively and not foul as much? Yeah. Would I say that I’m I’m relatively disappointed in him because I have pretty high standards for him? Yes. He’s still been a positive basketball player for the Suns. so far this season. Today was his worst game. Specifically, positive. Positive in what manner? In the rebounding sense, he’s been one of, if not their best rebounder through four games so far. I was going to say numbers numbers wise, nobody’s been a positive. No, but I but like as far as like in context of the team who’s been who who has had positive traits. Ryan Dunn in in that Kings game was the only reason why they were even in it for a part of it because of the hustle, because of the defense, because of the rebounding. Now again, are you going to be a starter in the league off of that stuff? Realistically speaking, you will never be on a good team. You need to have an extra element there. And so he he has to find a way to either stay on the court by not committing fouls or stay on the court by contributing a little bit more offensively. But rebounding wise, cutting to the rimwise and perimeter defense overall have all been in the scheme and the context of this team positives from him so far this season. My biggest question is, okay, are you gonna replace him with Royce, who we know is hot and cold, maybe not, but there’s no there’s no definitive answer into who would replace him. And that’s that’s the problem here, right? That’s why he’s starting right now because you don’t have that guy. Maybe Rashir Fleming over time develops into that. And then you have a question about that in terms of because we know Rashier has defensive potential and probably a high not probably is a higher ceiling offensively than Ryan, but right now that’s just not where where the world we live in. Would it be nice to have somebody that could give you more offensive production and give you the same defensive production as Ryan Dunn? 100%. You just don’t have it right now. So you got to figure that out. And that’s why he is and has been my X-factor for the Suns this season. He’s not the best player. He’s not second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth, but he has, to quote Liam Niss, a specific set of skills that no one else can replicate on the roster and at least not do it in the ways that he can, especially in his frame. He can’t get to the goods without mitigating some of those bads or the weaknesses um or the faults at this at this present moment. If he can’t knock down his threes, if he can’t get a certain type of respect from the defense, that’s going to put him in compromise and it’s going to hurt the team to the point where his defensive impact, it just won’t be enough to trump that. He’s got to be better. I think he will be. These are part of the growing pain still. Game games played wise. This is still very much a rookie slate. He’s only at like what 55 56ish games, 57ish games played across a season and some change now. So, there’s still going to be some growing pains that come with it. You got to be patient, but the unfortunate part is that they don’t have much patience that they can work with right now. Well, why not? I I mean, again, if this team’s not competing, I think you do have a lot. They’re not competing, but they also, like we talked about in pregame and during the game, they also don’t have any of their own picks. Realistically, kind of limbo. If the entire starting lineup is out there and Ryan Dunn struggling and there’s somebody else, then that patience goes, I’m still giving Ryan Dunn these minutes over a Royce O’Neal, over a Grayson Allen because Ryan Dunn’s future is more integral to your future team success and figuring out what he can and can’t do is extraordinarily valuable. You would like it to be the positive side of it. You still need to give him the room to grow that he was not afforded last season. He cannot have a short leash this season. Sure. Well, I it depends. I mean, if he does not prove at all that he can he can hit those open shots, you might have to have a shorter leash. I if I’m going to if I’m going to go out there and I’m going to let a guy learn on the job and and do all that, I’d rather Rashir Fleming be that guy that that this that this group just invested uh in and traded up for that has a higher ceiling if I’m just going to let people go out there and fail along the way. if that’s if that’s what we’re talking about. I’m not saying I pull him now because there’s a guy in that starting lineup I pull a lot sooner in Oso Igadaro that I think is is causing you more uh is causing you more issues, right? That’s that’s where I the attention I think needs to be. And you make that first and then you see what it looks like with Jaylen Green in there and can you can you sacrifice the offense for the defense? But if he keeps fouling like he has, it’s going to be a moot point. You can’t keep a guy out there uh that’s going to keep fouling. No. Look, okay, the I think a great point in the chat. We’re just going to pretend like Ryan Dunn is in a second year player. Again, like you mentioned, he’s still in his rookie slate of games. He’s averaging eight points and seven rebounds for a team. And again, he is also along in a long list of players besides Deon Booker slotted in the wrong role for what he was supposed to be for this team, let alone fully successful in his NBA career. Does he need to be better? Yes. Should we be talking about taking him out of the starting lineup right now? No. Listen, I’m a big Rasher Fleming guy. I didn’t like that Isaiah Livers played over Rashir Fleming. Even though Livers had a good game, I’d still rather see your 31st pick in the draft. I I’m big on him, right? Ryan Dunn should not be threatened as a starter right now. If we want to get halfway, threearters of the way or through the season and have the conversation, that’s fine. But again, this is a guy who’s continuing to find his role and to act like he has not have a had a positive impact for this team. I believe is is not true considering the fact that we we named him blueco collar boy a couple nights ago, right? Like his defensive impact is there. His defensive highs are the highest on this team besides Dylan Brooks. And his rebounding is the second best on the team second to who? Mark Williams in a per minute basis. Who else has been a better rebounder for the Suns right now? Eight and eight like is is not the a world beater. Don’t give him a max contract. But let’s stop acting like this guy’s averaging two points per game and a rebound per game. Oh, I mean that’s that that’s not the case. And and I know that the chat’s being more harsh than than I think we are. I I just again I I need to see him start to grow in those areas. And and I again his defensive potential is very high. It’s just what does this team need on a given night? How do you make this all work? We don’t know yet because we have not seen the the whole the whole mix. So it’s it’s tough to judge that. I don’t I don’t mind the livers thing. You obviously are trying to keep Rashier and and Kaman out of the fray right now. Whether you haven’t seen enough in practice, whatever the case may be, that bothers me less. But Oso can’t be in your starting lineup very much longer. Uh if if at all. I I actually at this point would probably if you’re not ready to start Mark Williams, I probably would just start Nick Richards because he played very well on defense today. Uh has has rebounded all right over the over his minutes. I probably go that route at this point because I I like Oso. I think there is potential, but to start him at an NBA level, you know, just does not seem advantageous. And if you look down the road this week, you’re playing WBY at the end of the week. And I do not want to see an Osuo Agodaro uh Victor Webyama matchup being honest with each of you. I mean, do you want to see anybody going up against Wimyama? Dylan Brooks. No, I mean I mean no, but you know what I mean. Yeah. No, I get you. I get you. No, I I’ll start with uh Animal TV in the chat. Um continuing to bring up the we were, as he said, glazing also last week. Not quite. Not quite. If you want to go back and watch it, one thing you won’t ever have to do is remind me of what I said. What we were talking about contextwise is the Suns spent the entire preseason with who at the starting five? Oh, so good. So, continuity-wise for a team that doesn’t have much of it, especially in the starting realm, does it make sense to go to someone brand new to start the season if Mark Williams is not healthy, or does it make sense to continue to go with the guys that have the most chemistry and time spent on the floor together? That was the main reason why. In addition to that, it’s the complimentary skill set that he brings on offense for a team that is gonna need the offense operating without Jaylen Green and operating with only a small capacity of Mark Williams. You know, Deon Booker is getting double team and you can’t put another shooter on the court because you only have but so many of those. At least have somebody on the short roll that can make some of those quick decisions that you need or have somebody that can initiate offense and allow for Deon Booker to start off the ball and give you more of that versatility that you need. Similarly, on defense, if you don’t have all of your guys, especially if you’re talking about protecting the rim, you want to be able to switch and just try to contain the ball, at least force teams late into the shot clock and make them take tough contested threes or tough contested twos and hopefully they miss some of those and you’re able to play in transition from that. That was the reason why we at least why I went with OSO. I don’t know if y’all want to speak on y’all’s part, but I mean I you could kind of go with Oso out of necessity if Mark’s not able to start, but I I think we’re sitting at a point now where does OSO have some now? Yeah, that’s that’s out. Does OSO have some skills that could help? Sure. Oso is just he’s not ready. I don’t know if he’ll ever be a starting center in the NBA. Energy guy off the bench that can make good plays. A and you’re your matchup dependent center where okay, they’re going small. We need somebody who could switch out there. They have a creator at center. We need somebody who could switch out there. Okay, we tap into Oso Gdaro for 8 to 12 minutes in that game. Other than that, like look, Nick Richards isn’t the best player in the world, but he had three blocks tonight. He played physical. He played big. It’s just not something that OSO does at an NBA level. And I like Oso, and I think that there’s a place for him in the league. But honestly speaking, on a bad team probably isn’t one of them. And unfortunately speaking, like he’s not on a good team right now. I I just I think it comes down to simply you knew Mark Williams wasn’t going to be ready to start the season. and you weren’t comfortable playing him starter minutes. You know what Nick Richards is and you knew Kaman Malawatch was not in a place where he was ready to start an NBA game. So you put him out there to see what he could be. I’m sure was intrigued by some of his offensive intangibles. Mhm. You saw, you understand now, and you know that you can move him to a bench roll and try to leverage that in spot minutes where it makes the most sense. I think it’s as simple as that. That it was you’re going to have a lot of experimenting on on seeing what you have. I think that’s why Livers was out there today because he went, you know what, this kid busting his ass in practice has shown, you know, that ability. We need some energy. Let’s put him out there and see what you have. Okay. If you realize by minutes played tonight, Oso Igodaro played the fewest amount of minutes from any center, including Nick Richards. Jordan not clearly knows that Oso Eigodaro is is not a center that impacts at least winning or positively the most on this team. So I if he continues to start him, honestly, that’s that’s a question that needs to be asked of of why is somebody who’s starting we saw it with Bud, we didn’t like it with Bud. Why is somebody who’s starting playing either the second most or the least amount of minutes in your center rotation, especially against big lineups? But we’ll have to monitor that going forward. Of course, we’re monitoring our super chats. But first, I was just going to say you did see him play in double big lineups tonight. Not the It wasn’t with uh uh with Mark Williams. It was with Nick Richards at times, but I I think you might see that again when they play Utah on Friday where where they play him in a double big. But I I just I don’t think they can start him anymore and I don’t think they will. Yeah. All right, we got some uh super chats here. Let’s hear from the freckled Mamba cuz BCOM C clearly has chimed in. We got $2 becom clearly. Tear it down. Crying face emoji. Sorry BD tomorrow. WTF is this? You guys understand that one? Baby daddy. Is that what that is? Or is it a Mhm. Devin Booker misspelling? No, this is baby daddy. Oh, we got Teddy. That was tame. We didn’t need We didn’t need the freckle mama to read that one. I just like tapping the freckle mama for that. Uh Teddy with the one super chat said, “Sixers best back court.” Is it birthday? Is it birthday tomorrow? BD tomorrow. Maybe maybe birthday. Let us know if it’s your birthday tomorrow. Let us know. Be calm. Teddy says the Sixers have the best back court in the league. Maybe one of the best young ones. That’s for sure. VJ Hcom and Tyresese Maxi are hooping. Teddy also. They had a best back court in the league, man. Knock it off. I said one of the best young ones. Knock it off. One of the best young back. It’s three games in. Knock it off. Come on, man. One of the best young back courts in the league. No. How can we How can we decide that three games? We’re not doing We are literally making conversations and and take away from the Phoenix Suns. So far, they’ve been one of the best back courts in the league. And if you look youngwise, projecting forward, Tyres, I don’t even I don’t care about this anymore. I don’t care. They’re one of the best young back courts in the league. They have a rookie who is killing it and they have Tyrese Maxi who is killing it. Yes, they do. But it’s Am I going insane? It’s been three games. What’s name another young back court that’s better. Espo, it’s the same thing as saying this tonight was a heartbreaker. Name a better young back court that that has a better What is going on? Dylan Dylan Harper and Stefon Castle. Okay. One of the best backytor is better than that. Luca and Austin Rivers. Yes. Tell Am I wrong? Luca, if you’re living at the free throw line, they’re not young either. Hey, let me let me say this. Based on tonight, Lorie Markin is the best 7 foot plus white scorer in NBA history. Going insane right now cuz I feel like I’m going insane right now. Yeah, I don’t understand. Am I Am I going nuts like I just said that like [ __ ] Quinton Grimes is MVP? I think we they could be nice, but we can also pump the brakes on making they have a rookie who’s averaging 20 plus points per game in Tyres. We got screaming a Smith between us right here. Uh making nuts. I’m going telling me about making conclusions. You’re talking about Dylan Dam Harper, bro. And and Stefan Castle. No, no, I just made the comparison because you decided to bring that up. No, because you can’t tell me another young back court. All I said was Tell me another You asked me to tell you a young back. I’m not here for Sixers propaganda and young back court. Tyresese Maxi and VJ Edgecom have been playing better than Dylan Harper and Stefon Cass. You asked me to name another one that’s been playing well and I named another one. Okay, I said another one’s been playing better. Are we are we really waiting? Okay, VJ Edgecom’s three games into his career. Michael Carter Williams won rookie of the year with the Sixers. Let’s not let’s not date coronation for for anybody after three games. My bad, folks. I’m tripping here. Uh Teddy with a 499 super chat says dead homies. I’m actually Daryl my grimes for done in that last verse. Y’all have jokes on you. We don’t have a tradeable first. I’ll call right now. That’s illegal by the way. Wouldn’t do it. Uh becom clearly with a couple more super chats. Ericton, if you want to if you want to tap in. I’m back. $2 BCOMC clearly. You know it. We need another SG3 of them. Another $2 from BCOMC clearly. October 28th, 1997. Yes, I’m 28 now. I L Y Noah Bades. I love you, Noah. That’s what he’s saying. Congratulations on 28. Sorry. Can I bring it in with a win? I was about to enter high school in 1997. So, uh, you don’t want to know where I was in 1997. Everybody everybody leave a happy birthday in the chat for big big facts. Uh, any any final thoughts about tonight before we all get in a fist fight about VJ Edgecom? I ain’t getting into a fist fight. I’m just saying we’re not making these declarations. I have a thought. Okay. Watch VJ Abuchum’s highlights from the past three games. I’m not saying he’s I’m just not ready to say that they’re the best young back court in the NBA after three games. That’s it. That’s that simple. They could be by 40 games into this and and great. I just You can’t use the Michael Carter Williams thing and then still base it off of a rookie season if you’re going to use that point. I’m just just my my whole point is, you know, we can overreact all we want, but it’s still three games. Teddy says, by the way, does anybody have some cake pictures for becom clearly? Oh, man. Teddy falls up and says, uh, I think he means Maxi. Maxi, VJ, uh, Jared McCain, and Grimes. We have the best young back court in the league. Four young guards. Jared McCain was the rookie of the year before he got injured last year. I just I don’t know, man. I don’t feel like what I said was that egregious. And Edwin McCain was a great uh you know artist right now because this is this is [ __ ] crazy. And DeAndre Hunter has quickly descended into one of the absolute best way in the entire NBA. There’s no way you’re doing that, bro. There’s no way that you’re doing that. Be he won’t let me. He’s Bro, understand y’all did not bring up Y’all did not bring up DeAndre Hun who had one good game for Listen, bro. who we’ve seen multiple years into his NBA career. Hey, it’s only it’s one of what, three games for the Cavs. I get what you’re saying, bro. I stand with you. I understand. Brent said Brent says, “So, Espo, you aren’t ready to call Webby a top five player then?” No, I think he I think he could be there. I think he’s an unbelievable talent. No, I’m not ready to call him a top five player because guess what happened last year? He got injured and he missed a majority of the back half of that season. So, no, I’m not ready to crown anybody after three games anything. You know what I’m waiting for, chat? You know what I’m waiting for is a back court that you legitimately say is better. You brought up Harper and Castle, but you didn’t stand on it and say that they were better. Talking about, bro, we’re talking about the smallest sample size you could possibly base this off of. I’m just saying, why do we have to be Why do we have to jump to that conclusion so early? Why can’t we just let them naturally progress to whatever it is they’re going to be? By the way, right now, can we at least get a quarter of games to assess from? Can I try Can I try and bridge the gap because I think I have Lord have mercy. Okay. I think the reason why I believe this is because what VJ Edgecom has done in his three games, he looks like an NBA player. He doesn’t look like he’s three games in. He’s VJ Edgecom 25 points, six rebounds, and four assists in like 30 minutes starting for the Sixers. I think that is deserving of at least a little bit of props. Look, and that’s the thing is also I want to be very clear. VJ Edgecom is a guy that I sat down years ago with Flex from Jersey and he will attest to this in the PHNX office when he was playing for the Bahamas and I said I said this guy is next up. I said you got to keep your eye on this guy. That’s all I’m saying is I’m a VJO believer and I’ve been a VJ Edgecom believer. And I was telling my mom Cooper Flag is the deal about four or five years ago too watching this YouTube. I’m just saying bro and if you want to say Cooper Flag is one of the better young players in the league then that’s fine. I don’t care. And and I watched Larry Bird when he was four. Y’all have to let y’all watching BJ come in the Bahamas talk about he’s a top three pick. Look, let me Dude, I’m going insane. I’m going insane right now. Okay. I love that Eric cherry picks the the little things that he gets right. And then he’s like, you know what? Memory all the crap I get wrong. We’re just going to go with What is going on? I feel like I’m in [ __ ] fantasy land. All I said was we just don’t have to jump to making these declarations so soon. How about we say that’s all I said. They’ve had three of the best games this year as a back court in the NBA. They can rejoin us at the quarter mark of the season. Like yeah, they’ve had they’ve had the the best three games of any back court in the NBA right now. There you go. That’s fair. PHNX Suns. I don’t know ball, but we appreciate all of you being here. You said that. Neither one of us said. We didn’t claim you didn’t know. It’s fine. Uh, hit the like button. Hit that subscribe button for more VJO. There’s also another super so many random teams he loves. $2 becom clearly. I’m married to Booker. Congratulations. Where where do we send the gifts to? Where was the registry? I I missed it. So book coming home for you. I don’t know if he’s coming home for BMOC clearly. Respectfully, it is his birthday. So, their birthday. There you go. Uh B COMC clearly. Thank you. B COMC clearly for being here. Hey, Freckle Mamba, how about that Packer Steelers game from Hello. Now they’re just choosing violence. It was the jerseys. Now they’re just choosing violence. Let’s get out of here before they get kicked out. You know, I could I could really start a conversation with everybody in the chat that wanted to bring up my purple team, but I’ll leave that for another week. Out of here. Aren’t you still like two and five? Like, okay, Cardinal, we care Cardinals fans. We can’t talk. I mean, we can’t. It’s the same record, so I’m good. I know. Too early in the season for me. Ummmm….getting close doesn’t matter, they lost, period. Nothing is fun about losing. You’re a joke.
Gerald was the only one who knew ball
Who cares if he can’t hit shots really! Dort and toumani don’t either but they still start and get playing time!!! Dunn needs playing time and so does Fleming
Start mark Williams and Maluach as his back up! The rookies and young players need playing time!!!! Fleming needs 15 minutes a game!
Sixers backcourt is better than Spurs backcourt! Harper don’t even start and not close!! Booker and green will be better then castle and vassell
The owner could teach courses on how to destroy professional team…1) find good young team with troubled ownership, 2) buy it, 3) trade away all your picks and great role players for aging superstars that is known for playing loosing basketball and loosing basketball mentality, 4) after you start loosing, double down and get rid of the rest of your future and fill your salary cap, with same player type, that doesn't even want to play…5) sell the team
Hoping Ott does well but I’m really tired of him spamming the Oso minutes. It should be Mark starting and Nick playing off the bench flat out. Jalen come back healthy soon you’re needed ASAP 😂
The crew was so much better back in the '22 & '23 seasons. It was actually fun to watch and they had good chemistry all-around. This squad is boring and sounds disingenuous.
Espo really doesn’t know ball. He defends book wayyyyyy too much.
There’s absolutely no point in keeping Booker if we’re gonna be a 25 win team. Trade Booker. Start the rebuild
