Seahawks vs. Commanders Preview, Injury News & Prediction For NFL Week 9 Sunday Night Football

[Music] Welcome into Seahawks Today. I am your host, Will Ortner, and finally your Seattle Seahawks can talk about a matchup. After the long by week, it just feels like I need to see Seahawk football in my life again. We’re going to have to wait all the way till the end of Sunday because the Seahawks play in the fake Washington for Sunday Night Football against the Commanders. But boy oh boy can I not wait for that one. Right now your Seahawks are favored by three and a half. Don’t be shocked if that number goes up after some of the things we talk about in today’s video. But before we get into any of the preview, the injury updates, anything else that you need to know here early on in the week ahead of the Commanders matchup, I want you to let me know how confident are you that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. Right now, myself, I’m probably at a 10 out of 12. I’m pretty darn confident that the Seahawks get the job done. Let me know what you think down below in the comments. All right, so we’re diving into a scouting report of the Washington Commanders, and right now they’ve been very disappointing. Obviously, last year they were kind of the shocking team of the NFC, maybe even of the entire National Football League. They were not thought of to be very good. Hey, you’re going to go in try and figure out is Jaden Daniels going to be the guy? Can he be a franchise QB for you? And if you get, you know, a couple of wins where he looks halfway decent, you’re going to be pretty darn excited about that. Jaden Daniels then pops, ends up being someone that, look, I know he was never really in the conversation to win MVP, but there were people that floated the idea out. There was never a question if he was going to win rookie of the year. That was basically given to him by week three or week four last year. So, this Commanders team, they go on, they end up being one of the best teams in the NFC, almost end up winning the entire thing, losing to the Eagles late in the NFC Championship game. You kind of expect the team to come back and pop off. Well, frankly, they they really haven’t this year. Now, some of that is because this guy’s been hurt. Some of it is because Jaden Daniels has missed multiple games. He came back from an early season injury. He’s already missed multiple games again after having a little bit of a hamstring issue. And that’s kind of been the big issue for the Commanders. Not that the backup QB hasn’t come in and played horribly. Not that Marcus Mariota is completely washed, but just this offense is different when Jaden Daniels isn’t able to be out there and be as special as he wants to be. You also saw early on in the season against the Green Bay Packers where Jaden Daniels is trying to play through some injuries that he’s been fighting and frankly he just didn’t look like the same type of player, right? Don’t be shocked though after he missed the last game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night if Jaden Daniels isn’t able to go in this one as well. Now, I’ve already had some discussions with people here in the chat sports offices of no, I think Jaden Daniels will go. And frankly, after some of the reports that I’m hearing early on in this week and a one from a very trusted source, I think I’m at a point where I don’t know that Jaden Daniels will be able to go. ESPN’s Adam Shfter went on the Pat McAfee show. ever heard of him or it he said this directly. I think the commanders are being very careful with Jaden Daniels. I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t play on Sunday night. Now, why is Adam Shfter saying that? Adam Shfter saying that because Jaden Daniels is the future of this franchise. And do the Washington Commanders want to throw him out there, have him play a game, and then have to miss another one to two weeks already? You’ve seen it. He It’s really derailed this season for Washington. If I am the Commanders, I want to make sure I do everything possible to keep him as healthy as possible. And this game is going to be the first one that you have in November. Right now at three and five, that doesn’t mean that the Commanders are out of the playoff hunt at all. The NFC is much more difficult. But I will say if you are going to go on a run and maybe back door your way into this postseason, you better have Jaden Daniels rocking and rolling, ready to go. So, that leads me into my next point. How does the backup look? I want to dive into Marcus Mariota. He is a look a I would say a career backup or a player that when he came out of Oregon, a lot of people thought he would be uh much more improved. He’d be playing a lot better and he’d be a guy who could be a starting quarterback. I thought that. I mean, shoot, you know, me here at Seahawks today. I watch a lot of Oregon Duck football and Mariota was one of my favorite guys to watch when he was in uh college. But look, he’s really turned into a quality backup, and that’s what he’s been in Washington this season. He’s been able to play in multiple games so far for the Commanders. His completion percentage is about average. And if you’re getting a backup quarterback to come in and play for you, I’m going to be pretty darn happy with an average completion percentage. When you look at the yardage, man, it’s been fine. It’s not great. It’s not bad. He’s dead even on TDs and turnovers. He’s a backup. He’s a fine backup in the NFL. The problem is he’s going up against the best defense in the NFL and they’re going to eat him alive. This guy right here, Nuosu, since he’s returned from injury, he’s one of the top sack getters in the entire National Football League. He’s an absolute animal. The guy that’s hiding out in the back of the screen there, Demarcus Lawrence, ever since he returned from his injury, he’s been absolutely fantastic as well. You can look at the last two weeks of what the Seahawks have been able to do. 11 sacks, 21 quarterback hits, 67 pressures. Now, imagine what they’re going to be able to do to this Commander team when they’re playing Marcus Mariota where they know they can tune it up. They can get a little more after him than you would expect. They’re ready to be rocking and rolling, going and firing, pinning their ears back, making Marcus Mariota uncomfortable. You think that Mike McDonald isn’t going to have a plan to speed up Marcus Mario to make him uncomfortable? Get him to throw more of those interceptions that he has been. I think uh if you’re not prepared for that, then you’ve got another thing coming on Sunday. I think the Seahawks are going to win this game no matter who plays QB. If it’s a halfway injured Jaden Daniels, great. Fits into Seattle’s defensive plan. If it’s Marcus Mariota, he’s a fine backup. Still a backup. The Seahawks are going to beat the Commanders. If you think the Seahawks will beat the Commanders, let me know down below in the comments section. True. Yes, Seahawks beat the Commanders. False. That means obviously the Seahawks will not beat the Commanders. I better see a lot more truth. I want to dive into your Seattle Seahawks injury updates and injury status. But before I do that, I need you to I need to let you know about the proud sponsor of today’s video, and that of course is Prize Picks. The hard-hitting football action is even better with Prize Picks. The weather might be changing, but the feeling of being right never gets old. So, keep the season rolling on prize picks by getting $50 instantly in lineups when you play your first $5. Price Picks is simple to play. Make your picks in less than 60 seconds and turn your takes into cash all season long on price picks. I have a nice two pick power play for this Sunday. Sam Darnold against the Commanders defense. More on his passing yards. George Pickkins against the Cardinals defense. More on his receiving yards. Download the app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. Now, we got this tweet early on in the week from Hawk Blogger, great uh Seahawks insider, and Mike McDonald basically came out and said that he expects Robbie Us, Derek Hall, Devin Witherspoon, and Julian Love all to be back after the buy. Now, there was breaking news right around when we started the recording of this on Robbie Uts, which we will get into here in a little bit. But the expectation is a lot of the defensive players that you were worried about, when will they be back? They’ve been missing a lot of time early on in the season, they’re finally going to be back. We are finally going to see what this defense can be when it’s fully healthy. Cuz right now, what you’ve seen out of the defense is a lot of stellar play aside from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. And the reason that that one didn’t have a ton of stellar play was because of the vast amount of injuries. Now, that doesn’t mean you haven’t been injured the rest of the way. I mean, Julian Love and Devin Witherspoon have been basically out of the lineup, in the lineup for a game, then back out of the lineup, right? Derrick Hall’s missed the last couple of games with that oblique injury. Demarcus Lawrence missed some time with his injuries. Rick Woolen missed some time with a concussion. So, you go through the Seahawks defense and as good as it has been, which is one of the best in the NFL, they’ve been doing it basically at 80%, best case scenario, maybe 85, but most of the time right around that 70 75 mark. So, you’re finally going to see a defense that is 100% healthy. We’re going to see how the Seahawks use Devin Witherspoon in conjunction with Nicki Minor. We’re going to see Julian Love out there kind of directing some of the younger players. the communication issues that we have seen come in that Seahawk secondary, they’re not going to be there because the captains are back and frankly I can’t wait to see that defense at full strength. Now, offensively, Robbie, he is officially returning to practice this week. Now, that does not necessarily mean that he will be ready to go on Sunday. What is known is that Robbie Uts has been out running around in participating practice. This is a good thing, but because he was on the IR, they do have to ramp him back up, get him ready to go. The addition of the fullback, the starting fullback Robbie Hoots in this Seattle Seahawks offense is going to be huge for that run game, which we’ve seen be mediocre at best. I think that the addition of your true blue starting fullback, is only going to open up this offense. This is the healthiest you’ve seen this Seahawks team all freaking year. Finally, finally, we are going to get to see what this team can do to the full extent of their powers. Now, you always know when you come in here to Seahawks today, I have a matchup to watch. I have a position group versus another position group that I think the Seahawks can take advantage of. And frankly, again, not shocked I’m saying this. It’s the defensive front seven against the offensive line of the Commanders. When you have a backup quarterback in a game like Marcus Mariota or a hurt starting quarterback like Jaden Daniels, whoever is the starter, whoever is ready to go, you like to dial up more pressure. You like to make them uncomfortable. You like to take away some of the best things that they do. And both quarterbacks run the football well. Now, Jaden Daniels hamstring injury. He’s not going to be able to move quite as efficiently as like Marcus Mariota might be able to be. So, that does mean you have to be smart about your rushes. You do have to make sure that you stay in your rush lane, you stay gap uh sound. I think the Seahawks are going to be able to do that. I like this front seven to get pressured with just rushing four, but also don’t be shocked if you see more and more fire zones and exotic blitzes coming from Mike McDonald just to speed up whoever is playing quarterback for the Commanders. Now, it is prediction time and I want you to predict the score for the Seahawks versus the Commanders. Personally for me, I think that the Seahawks are going to get it done. And I’m going to share that here with you right now. Seahawks 28, Commanders 14. I want you to go down below in the comments, let me know. Do you think the Hawks win? Do you think the Commies win? What do you think the score is going to be? I think that this offense gets the job done. Commanders might get a garbage time touchdown, but especially if Marcus Mariota is out there running the point for the Commanders. I just don’t know that they’re going to be able to get enough drives sustained against this defense. I’ve been very impressed with the Seahawks all year and I don’t think that uh that opinion changes anytime soon. Your Seahawks, they’re going to get the victory 28-4 over the Commanders. That’s going to do it for today’s episode. Make sure that you click that subscribe button. Remember, we are the on the road to 75K. Want to get there by the end of October. We’re going to need some help. Going to need a lot of true blue Seahawk fans to come in and smash that subscribe button. Thank you guys so much for tuning in and I’ll see you next time. [Music]

  1. We like to keep it close, and throw in a few gadget plays for Jalen Milroe. Darnold will likely turn the ball over at some point, and there really is no reason to ball out too hard with guys coming back from injury. So I think 27-24 Seahawks over Commies.

  2. Hawks 27 to 17 for Washington. The Commanders are a 3 – 5 team. We beat the poor teams. We are getting to a 'gelled team' place and will likely play well against a mediocre-good team. But we ain't got a snowball's chance against the top 7. But, more easy wins and few injuries might just get us in the playoffs.

  3. Seahawks 31-10 If Hawks are going to be contenders? gotta smash mediocre banged-up teams…..this aint the Pete Carroll days anymore where regardless of the opponent every game was close and down to the final possession…..those days need to be permanently in the past now.

  4. I'm so excited for this game, Seattle almost never play on the east coast and when they do it's usually still to far for me to see, this is the first Seattle game I've seen in person since Baltimore in 2023

  5. If it's a home game, the Seahawks gonna lose by 3 with a Darnold INT late in the 4th quarter, after they run clock management starting from the 3rd quarter. money is good with WAS+3.5 + Lo = $300

  6. I think the Hawks will strangle the Washington offense – they have been tough to score on. And our defensive backfield is back. I am guessing more FGs than TDs for the Commanders. The offense is balanced and good enough to put up the points. My guess is Hawks 27-13.
