Atlanta Falcons Just Got A BUNCH Of News Ft. Kirk Cousins, Drew Brees & More

And when I say this, I mean every time I watch the Atlanta Falcons play football now, I feel like this bird, drunk, sad, and completely turned upside down. Maybe the answers to how to feel better as a Falcons fan can be found in today’s episode of Falcons Today, where the Falcons just got a bunch of news. Welcome in Dirty Birds fans to Falcons Today by Chat Sports. My name is Moose and like I said, today’s show features a bunch of different Atlanta Falcons news. We’ll start with of course the injury news which believe it or not can be looked at as a good thing cuz there’s a lot of players that are starters that should be coming back or at least are now considered dayto-day. Before we get into all of the news that has gone on in the last like 3 hours, our October like numbers are almost there, literally on this episode. We can beat it. So, I need you to smash that thumbs up icon. So, like I said, Raheem Morris came out recently today and talked about the day-to-days and some players that we believe, you know, could end up making their appearance again against the New England Patriots. Now, Jesse Bates was the most recent one to get injured in the Miami Dolphins game. He seems to be back. Jaylen Walker is most likely going to be back as well. Billy Bowman, Michael Penn Jr., Drake London, and Zack Harrison. Remember, when you’re considered daytoday, that doesn’t mean you are guaranteed to go the next week. It just means that your progress is monitored every single day and you have a better chance to start that Sunday than you would if you were considered week to week. And like I said, this could be looked at a good thing or as a good thing, but nobody feels good right now. Nobody feels good. So seeing our favorite players play every Sunday should offer a little bit of inspiration at least at the helm of this incompetent coaching staff. Rahee Morris said this about the players that should be coming back potentially getting Jaylen back this week along with Billy. So Jaylen Walker and Billy Bowman have the best shots to start this next coming week. Like I said, all those guys, I mean, they’re just day to day. Other than the guys that are actually on the IR status, like a Divine Diablo, but the other guys will all kind of be monitored throughout the week. Get to Wednesday, see what you look like in practice Thursday and Friday. Look, as good as this can be, unless something drastic happens, I don’t see the Falcons beating the Patriots. I don’t. And I know there’s a lot of Falcons fans that are out there that are going to say, “Actually, Moose, if you look at the last couple of games, this would be the game the Falcons win.” But you saw what they looked like against the Miami Dolphins. Like come on. Like unless something changes, and I hope it does. I hope I’m proved wrong. I don’t see anything different happening this coming week against one of the hottest teams in the NFL, the New England Patriots. Stick around later in the week. We’ll have a preview for you. So, let’s talk about what Adam Shfter said today. He joined the Pat McAfee podcast to drop some brand new NFL trade intel. Now, why is this important? The trade deadline is coming up literally a week from today. And spoiler alert, he did not list the Falcons as buyers. To make this a little bit simpler for you, in case you don’t want to go listen to the 45minute podcast, I summed it up in some spark notes. Here are the trade rumors. The Steelers, Bills, and Broncos have all called about trading for a wide receiver. Blah blah blah. The Saints are shipping out everybody. That’s some silver lining for us Falcons fans. Here’s the one thing you need to know. The Vikings are expected to trade for a veteran quarterback. Now, remember, we’ve talked a little bit about the Kirk Cousins back to Minnesota narrative before, but it’s not really quite made sense considering they had JJ McCarthy. However, recent reports and recent injury news surrounding the Vikings could lead to Kirk Cousins actually finding a spot on the Vikings roster. Dan Graciano, one major NFL reporter, said this about a Kirk Cousins trade just yesterday. He will likely get cut after the season. So, the Falcons, no joke, don’t want him on the team anymore. But, they do want to keep him around for a couple of weeks just like this and hope that he’ll perform like, you know, next time like they need him to kind of, you know, what we saw from him this last week against the Dolphins wasn’t necessarily up to snuff. But the second reason is that teams are looking for quarterback help. And the Falcons could probably find a team willing to give them a decent draft pick or two if they decide to deal Cousins, especially since they’ve already paid such a high percentage of his contract. That’s the most important thing right there. Not a single team in the NFL will want to trade for Kirk Cousins unless part of that salary is eaten by the Falcons. Well, it’s already sounds like the Falcons have paid a majority of that contract. Here’s some other interesting news. Carson Wentz, who’s been starting for the Vikings, is now out for the entire year. And there’s no one else on the trade market that the Vikings would Vikings would be interested in trading for, at least in my opinion. What are you going to go out and get? Kenny Picket. Good luck. Good luck. And JJ McCarthy clearly is not ready yet. They’ve been sidelining him with that high ankle sprain. And even if they do decide to roll with JJ McCarthy, they could trade for Kirk Cousins to be the backup in case JJ goes down again. We’ve already seen him get injured once this season. So, what about the Kirk connection? Well, we already know he’s spent six seasons in Minnesota. Duh. JJ is injured and not good. There’s no other veteran quarterbacks in the NFL worth trading for right now. And the Falcons have already paid off a chunk of that salary. Adam Shfter doesn’t just put out things willy-nilly. If the Vikings are looking for veteran quarterbacks, they’ve definitely called Terry Fonto. They’ve definitely had a conversation about getting Kirk Cousins. He already knows Kevin Oonnell’s system, so it wouldn’t be anything that he would have to reintegrate with a new quarterback. They’ve already paid a chunk of that salary. It just makes too much sense. And again, you’re not going to get a ton of capital back, but this makes a whole lot more sense for the Atlanta Falcons to at least get another draft pick, if any, rather than cutting him post June 1st and still saving $35 million a year. It just it it literally lines up perfectly to get rid of Kurt Cousins. But that’s not the question I’m going to ask you. question I’m going to ask you is, will the Falcons make any moves at the trade deadline? Give me a yes or give me a no. I’m inclined to think if there was a move made, it would be this one, that the Falcons would move Kirk Cousins back to the Vikings for that homecoming and Kirk would ride out the last year of uh his NFL career in my opinion with the Vikings. The last thing that I want to talk about today was Drew Brees news. Uh he talked about Michael Penn Jr. today and had some really glowing things to say about him. And I know that, you know, Falcons fans, you kind of have a lovehate relationship with Drew Brees. Um, or hate love, I should say. You hate that you love him because he is one of the greatest quarterbacks that’s ever played, but he played for the eights, which, you know, nobody likes the eights. Here’s what Drew Brees said about Michael Penn. I think he’s pretty pure throwing the football. I’ve seen him throw in person and I’ve obviously watched him play a lot of games on TV. looking at the ball come out. He’s got a very smooth, fluid throwing motion. He’s a lefty. All lefties look a little different. The ball just looks really smooth coming out of a lefty’s hand. I haven’t gotten really analytical with it, but he seems to have great ball placement and excellent anticipation. Well, who better to tell you about good quarterback play than from one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL’s great history? This is more evidence of Zack Robinson’s blunders. Moose, you’re drawn at straws. How is that possible? If Tom Brady came out and had said, “Michael Penn Jr. looks excellent in all of these areas, but Michael Penn Jr.’s numbers looked like this.” Do you think it’s a Michael Penn Jr. problem, or is it a marriage problem with his offensive coordinator? There’s only one way to find out. It’s to get rid of Zack Robinson. And I will be the first one to admit Penn hasn’t been perfect. He has a tendency to overthrow players. He’s not good against the blitz. He’s got happy feet in the pocket. But all of this can be fixed if you were to get a new offensive coordinator, namely one that he had his best season ever with. back in college the year he went to the natty against JJ McCarthy’s Michigan Wolverines Ryan Grub. Well, Moose, Ryan Grub went to the NFL right after that year with the Seahawks and he didn’t look too good. Yeah, they had Gino Smith and no solid running game with a god-awful offensive line. Falcons have a better offensive line. They’ve got a better run game and you get Michael Penn Jr. again. This sounds like the perfect match for Ryan Grub to come back in and reclaim that offensive coordinator spot as Michael Penn Jr.’s guy. He already knows what Penn does well. He’s schemed it.
