The Fast & the Furriest | Titans All Access

This week on a brand new Titans All Access, Tavandre Sweats homecoming and his journey from a Texas Longhorn to a Tennessee Titan. Making my dreams come true. Chim Ray DK turns on the Jets. Special teams coordinator Bones Fossil explains how the rookie is so dynamic in the return game. Um, the kick direction has a lot to do with our drop angles on the front line. Plus, Chim is wired for sound and a puppy playd date with all the Titans. That and more on this edition of Titans All Access. Welcome to Titans All Access. I’m Amy Wells coming to you from the Bet MGM studio. Ladies and gentlemen, Meatloaf is back. This past Sunday, Tavandre Sweat made his return to the field, racking up six tackles, including a pretty nice sack on Drake May. We traveled with T- Sweat back to his Huntsville, Texas roots, reconnecting with the people and places that helped shape the player, as we will see in Beyond the Pads, presented by Nissan. We know he ain’t going to pick up a force fumble cuz he’s slow down. Or will he? The ball pops out and it’s recovered by the Titans. Tandre Sweat rumbling up the sideline. The big man still on the run and out of bounds at the 40 yd line. Texas grew up like watching him do his thing. No, I didn’t. I just did that. I’ve been doing that since I was a little little kid, you know. When was the last time you carried the ball in a game? Pop on it. give my address. So, we used to walk around here all the time. Turn right here to the house where we was at. I mean, we ain’t got to get out, but you can just This is the trailer. We had this whole field. They used to be out here playing football, kids. We used to have dogs right here. Yeah. But this the trailer we used to stay in. So, it was Mhm. I think that’s crazy. Yeah, that’s Detroit. We did stay there. Yeah, being a single mother is hard, but you still got to have motivation for yourself. I made them play sports. Like your boys get out there, you need to be tough cuz the more you keep your kids into sports, the less you have to worry about them being on the streets or getting into trouble or anything. That’s when I started playing like H1 NFL here and start playing football and basketball with my cousins and brothers. All my family, we got some family out here right now. They got my first cousin right here. This the house we grew up in right here, man. Seriously. What’s up, baby? What’s up, boy? Boy, I know you been a long time, man. I for you, boy. I know you, man. I love you, too. You when you done back, boy. Hey boy, I done so much teaser. You ran that ball back. You You got that time, huh? You You ran that ball back. Look at that ball. Look at that bulldozer that the bulldozer. This the backyard right here. It still look the same. Had some good memories. Yeah. Came a long way. Yes, sir. You remember we found a snake in our hand room right here? Hey, we found a snake in this room. It’s just when you come around here, it’s just a family and we all love each other. Hey, this granny right here. Nice to meet you, sir. Granny, say hey to the camera. Oh, hello there. I’m Miss Granny. You got to tell me cuz you know I can’t see. I know. I love you, boy. I’m proud of you. I love you, too. Everybody be like, “Oh, you wasn’t that big back then.” But to everybody else, to all the kids like growing up with the kids I grew up with, I was always the big kid out the group. So So when he got older and bigger, it was funny like people used to be like, “That’s not his age. We need to see birth certificate.” Cuz they never thought that that was his age. Well, he was just big for his age. My sister Lisa used to always say, “Hey, I got some cookies for you if you make a touchdown.” So, she used to hold up them cookies. And when she used to hold up them cookies, he was going to make them a touchdown. The sweat boys, we come to play. You know, the joke in Texas is that there’s only one brand of football and it’s Texas high school football. And um it’s just special. Probably the thing I remember the most is when we started practice when he was a freshman, uh we moved him up to the JV. He intercepted a pass the second game of the year and uh we watched him run down the sideline and I knew at that point uh just from a talent standpoint that he was going to be special. After his sophomore year he was, you know, by far one of the better football players in the greater Houston area at that point just because of sheer power and the fact he was 285 pounds and could run as well as he could run. We were playing Willis. A quarterback broke loose and uh Devandre had to turn and go lateral down the line of scrimmage. Got off the block and chased the man and had a tackle for loss. I’ll say that was probably one of the best moments. No matter what was going to happen, he was going to be a guy that was going to be able to make plays for you, especially late in the game. I told his mom just looking at him physically and how he was maturing and how big he was getting and how much he was growing that uh if he would do all the things you got to do and there are a lot of things you have to do in order to be at the level he is today. I appreciate Coach Sutherin for you know being there instilling it in his head. He got potentials. Keep going. Don’t give up. Tvandre listened and I think he trusted me uh not only as a football coach but probably as a man. We coached him hard, but he was such a good athlete for his size and it just made it easy for us. You know, he got a lot of attention and obviously when he committed to Texas, hook offer me. When I committed to the University of Texas, that’s when I was like, “Okay, this is my chance of getting out of Huntsville, making it out, and making my dreams come true.” Up next, Coach Fossil breaks down how Chimray DK can flip the field in an instant. We’re back with more Titans All Access. If you add up rushing, receiving, and return yards, Chimray DK leads the league with 1,025 all-purpose yards. Taylor Zarzer caught up with special teams coordinator John Bones Fossil to see what makes the rookie so electric returning kicks. That’s all in this edition of film review presented by co-pilot plus PC. Let’s go to the film right here just like we did just a little bit ago. So, we have a return here where it’s just basically a man return. Everybody’s just got some one-on- ones. Um, the kick direction has a lot to do with our drop angles on the front line. You can see right here. So, you know, if the ball’s kicked to our right, we’re all dropping at that angle. If the ball’s kicked to our left, we’re all dropping at this angle. So, these guys right here have a lot of action that they’re talking about as far as my eyes before the play even gets started. Okay, so as it unfolds, all right, you can just see here it’s just a man return. I’ll go to the endzone shot here in a second, but one of the big things for us right here on kickoff return, if you want to talk real specifics, okay, is denying penetration. And so we don’t want to have any free runners get through there. We feel if we can deny penetration, then we got a chance for Chim to get a little bit of return yardage right here. So, but just a couple highlights right here. So, they kick it a little bit to our right. So, you can see if I slow-mo this right here, everybody on the front line, nobody can go until the ball gets caught or the ball hits the ground. So, you can see as the action’s going, I’ll kind of fast forward and rewind that everybody’s eyes go back to the returner for their drop angles. Okay, you can see all the eyes right there. Now the ball’s caught, so the action starts. So what we did is here, we just matched everybody up one-on-one. We put a double team on the kick side, too. And as it unfolds, we just run it right at the kick side. Everybody trying to win their one-on- ones, right? Straining just a little bit more. Not a bad drive start. Up next, the woman who pushed Tvandre Sweat to dream bigger. How his high school guidance counselor’s belief changed everything for the Titans big man. Welcome back to Titans All Access. I’m Amy Wells. Earlier in the show, we traveled with Tavandre Sweat back to his hometown of Huntsville, Texas. In part two of our journey, we follow his path from Saturdays in burnt orange to Sundays in two-tone blue as Beyond the Pads presented by Nissan continues. There she go. This the woman with all the plans right here. I don’t know about plans. What are you doing? I’m so sweaty right now. It’s so cold. That’s okay. This the woman with all the plans that got me where I’m at now. I’m a counselor. I’ve been a counselor for 20 years. What I do is I work with seniors um with their applications. School started talking to him. He started coming in to see me more. He wasn’t like a straight A type student, but he was a kid that worked so hard. I remember us sitting in there in the career center and he would just come in there, you know, any extra time he was had construction he was and it was a two-hour block and he would usually come in there for 1 hour and we would just sit in there and talk about stuff. He always like always go to her office, always talk to her. We really started talking about, okay, well, what’s your future going to look like? What what are you thinking? He said, I want to go to UT. The University of Texas application is one of the harder ones to do in Texas. I worried about that for him. And so he and I would sit down for hours. I it was a it was a lot of daily motivating. I mean because like literally I didn’t want to play no more. I didn’t want to go to school. I didn’t want to do this or that. And I was like if this is what you’re wanting, you know, then you have to do it. There was um a couple of times that his mom would be working and we would go out to UT and go to um the games and you know go through the whole recruiting process and stuff. So that was really special too being able to be a part of that with him um cuz he was always like you’re like the other mother to me, another mom to me. She just like looked at me as a one of hers like I’m one of her kids. So honestly, I would just say my motivation with her was just like she believed in me. And I mean, you could take it a long way with somebody believe in you. And I feel like with me, when people believe in me, it just motivate me more. I give a big shout out to her because without her, I wouldn’t have been able to get in UT or none of that. So I thank her a lot. Going into college, I mean, I was nervous, but I mean, I feel like everybody have a little nerve storm, especially going to college at the age of 17. When I first got to college, I used to, “Hey, mom, can you come get me? Can you come get me?” Every weekend, every time we got off, I used to call my mom to come get me. Freshman year, it was hard. He was homesick. He wanted to come home every weekend. And she was like, “Son, you made me a promise. You’re going to give me a house one day.” I said, “Yes, ma’am. You sure right. I am. And the moment she said that, I was like, “All right, let me pick up my slack and just keep pushing and keep going.” You know, being in college, you have a lot of other guys that was already there. You have a lot of guys that’s playing in front of you from what freshman year of college all the way to his senior year of college and playing his extra year. Like, he turned everything around. He was a leader on the field and he just did what he had to do. And it’s a touchdown thrown to Tfandre Sweat against Houston all America a year ago. Slovis in trouble and down it goes in the back field. Tandre Sweat you know once you start growing up and college start being college and you know you having good time and I stopped coming home. She was like you used to want to come home all the time. Now you get older and you don’t want to come home no more. But yeah, but I would say it really hit me on my senior day in college when they called my name to walk out. My mom was sitting there waiting on me and my brothers and I just looked around and the atmosphere at University of Texas is amazing. I love my Longhorn fans and they screaming my name and I don’t know I would I would say that was probably when I it hit me like damn like it was real real and yeah I don’t even have no words cuz that was the that’s when it hit me. Oh, you’re welcome. Can’t can’t wait to get you in. It’s going to be fun. Uh yes, ma’am. I do. I know things are going to be great. Look forward look forward to seeing you, man. On draft night, it was just hear my name called. With the 38th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans will select Trayvandre Sweat. Till this day, I still can’t believe like I’m I can say I’m in the NFL, you know, and it’s still unbelievable. I still haven’t cried. Like it’s still I’m still processing even though it’s been a year, but it’s just I’m I’m just happy, blessed. Like it was a big moment. I finally got to where life took me and got my mom my house. I love you a lot. I won’t be here without you. And this is going to be the first picture you put in your new crib. Woo! That’s the first picture going to bring you in the house. All right, let’s go. [Applause] She made a lot a lot of sacrifice and to get me where I’m at now. It’s just like I always been there for my boys. I I kept you motivated. I kept your head on a swivel like you know, just stay focused and just keep going hard. And he did. He didn’t give up. This a woman I love to death. I feel good. Real good. Love her. Get out there and do something. Give me some sex. Football was my way out. And you can ask Miss Shaw. She know I didn’t have a backup plan and I told her my backup plan has been in the NFL and she believed in me and I did it. It was early on. That was one thing that he, you know, he he knew what he wanted. I mean, I was going through ups and downs when I got picked. That why I say I give a big shout out to the organization for believing in me and letting me prove myself to the Titans fan. And now I I love like Titans fan love me now. You know what I mean? I can’t be more thankful for that. Hey, can you sign this? Hey, thank you so much. Hey, back. Everything will be the same on both fields. You want to know what they going to be doing? Okay. We having a good day. Let me get a Titan up on three. 1 2 3. Tighten up. I do free camps in Huntsville because I love my community and I just want to see people make it out of Huntsville. He he loved the kids and everything he’s doing, he’s doing from the heart in genuine. Not nothing for show, not nothing for just doing it, but doing it out of love. He’s never changed in that. He’s like put on this. Oh, well, I’m too good now or I have this or I’m this. You know, that’s not him. Yeah. Yeah. My boy, my dog, my dog. Let’s go. You having fun? Yes, sir. The city’s embraced him in terms of what he did for not only Huntsville High School and our football program, but the city of Huntsville as well. Could not be more proud. I was one of those kids that didn’t have it. I just love seeing the kids smile, having fun, and they see a way to get out of Huntsville. Man, I can’t be more thankful for stuff like this, man. It’s a blessing. Coming up next, a tail wagging good time with puppies and titans. Welcome back to Titans All Access.
