Game Day | Flames @ Maple Leafs – 28.10.25

Fresh off of a 5-1 victory over the Rangers at Scotia Bank Saddle Dome on Sunday night. Will the Flames make any lineup changes? And who will get the start and goal against the Maple Leafs tonight? Here to answer those questions and get you set for game one of a four-game road trip. I’m Derrick Wills alongside Megan Mickelson and Mick, the Flames score a season high five goals. They get their first home win of the season. What building blocks were there in that 5-1 victory over the Rangers that the Flames can take into this four-game road trip and into tonight’s game against the Maple Leafs? Well, Kale Mlan told us after the game that the difference in the offense was that they were getting to the inside in that game. The shot volume was there, uh, but the real difference was getting to the middle of the ice in the offensive zone to those high danger areas. The second one, they were very disciplined, only taking one minor penalty. And then lastly, Dustin Wolf was absolutely outstanding, stopping 30 of 31 shots. But Blake Coleman said it really well after the game that it doesn’t matter unless that’s something that they can build off of. They’ll be looking to do that here tonight. And Dustin Wolf will get his sixth straight start and his 10th in 11 games this season when the Flames face the Maple Leafs tonight. And on Sunday night, Matt Coronado is a healthy scratch for the first time this season, but he will be back in the lineup for this game against the Maple Leafs. What have you seen from him this season? What do you need to see from him in this contest tonight? Yeah, it’s the first time Matt Coronado had been a healthy scratch since October the 30th of 2024. That’s a long time, but for Matt Coronado, it’s just a matter of getting back to his game. What he does really well is he gets into pockets on the ice where he can get that shot off of his. It’s a dangerous shot, but getting into those spots, making sure you’re not gripping your stick too tight as well. something Ryan Huska mentioned that you know maybe he was trying a little bit too hard if that’s possible. So I mean if I’m a player as well that was healthy scratched I feel like going into this one you have something to prove and the Flames have something to prove as well. They’re going to have to string some wins together and they can make it two in a row if they can beat the Maple Leafs tonight. What are going to be the three keys to victory for the Flames in this one? Well, the first one going back to that offense is continuing to get to the inside of the ice to the middle. Uh, battling for inside positioning and net front positioning as well and talked about it also the second one in discipline, staying out of the box. You see the difference against the Winnipeg Jets, eight minor penalties, you end up losing that one against the New York Rangers, one penalty and you come out on top in a 5-1 win. Uh, and then the last one, making sure that you’re aware of who is on the ice. If you look at guys like Austin Matthews, William Knander, uh you need to make sure that you’re aware when their top players are on the ice. With game four of the World Series going tonight, they’ve actually moved the start time for this game. We’ll have the call for you on Sportset 960. The fan, John Abbott, and Kelly Rudy will have the call for you on Sportset at 400 p.m. Should be a great game. Flames versus Maple Leafs. We hope you enjoy it, everybody.
