INSTANT REACTION: Bruins Snap Losing Streak With 3-2 Win Over Avalanche
Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Welcome to Bruins overtime live presented by bayota.com. For offers not seen on TV, visit bioteyota.com with Billy and Barry. I’m Sophia. Really quick, a reminder that number six Quinnipic takes on UNH at 7 right here on Essence. So, shortly following our postgame show. They won. Oh, the Bruins. Yes. Yeah. And guess what? Credit where credit is due. You did say 2-1, but still. You said a onegoal game and they did. one goal for the Boston. I was rooting for any victory. I don’t you know, but against the best team in the West. Go figure. Go make it right. Go make it make sense. Exactly. Well, I can make it make sense because swimming had 29 saves and you had 33 blocks. Yeah. And especially early, you know, when your your confidence is down, you lost six, you’re playing a team that kind of dominated you a week 10 days ago. Early on in the game, you don’t the team doesn’t have their confidence. You can see they’re sitting back a little bit. He made some big saves in that first period when they were outshot 10-1 at one point. Boy, he we said it in pregame, you needed a goalie to steal you a game. You know, at that point in hockey game, and he did. He really played well. Yes, we’re definitely going to look into Jeremy Swayman tonight. But let’s start with the go-ahead goal, but Mikey ACont. Uh this is when things started kind of getting going for the Boston. Yeah, we and uh some speed in the neutral zone after a little turnover here, Billy. All of a sudden, you’re going to see Boston come out winning some battles along the boards. A couple of good passes here. And bang, you got a big break right there. And all of a sudden, now you got a two-1. Don’t go offside, Jano. Over to Asamont. That made it two to one. And that happened. That was a goal 39 seconds after Arbson had tied it 1-1. Boy, the momentum shifted. And just like the goal that was scored at the end of the second period, don’t look past what Andrew Peak did on that play. Taking a hit from Nelson to make the play. We often times overlook that little thing where it’s not a tape to tape pass, but what it is, it nullifies the opponent’s forch check. He gets the hit, makes play, swings the other way. Yeah, they get a break. Molinsky steps up, misses. It happens. You’re just going to miss. Yeah, we’ve seen it happen to the Bruins, but the Bruins take advantage of it. I really liked what Tanner Jen did going forehand, backhand, extends himself just to get another bit, half or maybe a foot of room, and then the pass over was beautiful. Kept his feet. Really did a good job. You know what else? Sometimes the Bruins were overlooking, especially last season, the end of a period. But this time, Morgan Geeky with a an effort and and getting it in. And this is where you see Peak as well have something good at the right point. The puck is going to come back. Peak’s going to be there and and so is uh the the center Lynhomem in a defensive posture. It helps. And look at Manson slow down. And then he just assumes that Peak is going to try to come out from the other side. Well, by doing that, Barry, I firmly believe watch the head of the goalender right there that going to the left of Wedgewood cuz he sees his defense going to that side and he says, “Well, that means that Geeki is going to be coming out that side and instead he comes back in and tucks it in.” Last game, folks, we saw Morgan Geeky use his shot like it’s classic Geeky. This was a great finish with and four seconds. And it’s so important as Brick had talked about. Here’s you have a team again. You’re on a six-game losing streak. You’re not feeling good about yourself. You don’t think you can protect the lead. You’re backing up a little bit. All of a sudden, you get that goal and you get a twogoal cushion going into the third period. I actually thought defensively the Bruins looked more confident in the third period. Kind of protecting the lead at least a little bit where they were standing up more. They were a little stronger in the neutral zone. So, you hope with a a victory like this, you can start to get some confidence, start to feel better about your defensive side of your game and start to make some strides. Kiki six of the season, three consecutive games. Three consecutive fifth time. You know, only two other guys have more goals than him since last December. I like that. I also like this. Uh this is a Bruins defenseman age 24 or younger with three assists, three plus assists in a game. and Morgan Geeky. Most not geeky. We were just talking about it. Mason Lauri on that list. He’s got two of them and he’s standing by with Andrew Ra. Mason, how good does that feel on a Saturday afternoon to to break that streak? Yeah, obviously you know um have a good team coming in here and um you know, we raise our level and it’s obviously nice to break that streak and move forward here. On a personal level, three assists tonight. Uh just a really nice job, especially on the first goal. You didn’t get all of it on it, but it was a great read by you coming down the wall, putting the puck to the front of the net. Just talk about the offense today. Yeah. Um no, I think you saw I mean, we we played pretty much exactly to our system and you know, playing north and you know, win wall battles that was huge. We won a lot of wall battles that created a lot of offense for us and I mean that one in particular, run a faceoff play, go north. Um Casey makes a great play to me and I was looking to go shot pass but kind of whiffed on it and RV picked it up and did the rest. It was a little bit of a just pass then so it worked out. Um the schedule’s been crazy. So now you guys have another backtoback travel coming up. What’s the plan now for the afternoon game? You get a good dinner, nice quiet rest and travel tomorrow. Yeah, I got dad in town. So we’ll uh probably grab a dinner and then just hang out at home um watch some TV and and get ready to go. So, I like playing a lot of games. There you go. Dad will break down your three assists for you tonight. So, all right. Great job, buddy. Thank you. Yeah, he likes playing a lot of games. That’s good cuz it is a good schedule. Our superstar of the game brought to you by your New England Subaru dealers, Jeremy Swain this season. Oh my goodness. And tonight, 31 saves on 33 shots. We’ve already discussed and we’re just going to show you, show me, don’t tell me. We’re going to show you how key and how important momentum shifting some of those saves could be, guys. Jeremy Swayman tonight. Yeah, he was uh excellent from the get-go. Um you could tell he was focused without trying to do too much. I don’t think he was ever too aggressive. I actually really like the way too that the couple And by the way, I think Colorado tried to get in his grill an awful lot. And I I liked how he didn’t really respond to it, Barry, because in the past, I feel like he’s done it a little too much. Yeah, when he was making the sage, they were going in there with those slashing with the stick. Yeah. And and he didn’t react to it. He just let it happen. And and I just thought that overall his instinct, his reads, his depth, all the things that, you know, you need to be a good goal. We need Razer really to say what he did the best. But overall, I I love his focus. That’s what I would say. I I would agree. I thought he was tracking it very well. Here you have some of those things we were talking about. A little extra curricular activity. Big job here on twoonone. He makes a nice save, but look how he controls the rebound there. again. They’re going in with the slash. That should have been a penalty right afterwards, but but you know, sometimes he pops up and he tries to get involved. He didn’t do any of that. No, I think as to your point, I think he stayed focused. He was he stayed in the moment. And boy, when the Bruins needed him again at the beginning of that first period and about halfway through the second period in particular, he was there. And when the team doesn’t have their confidence like this, you need a goalender to pick you up when there’s a defensive mistake or a situation where you need a big save. And man, he was there this afternoon. Yeah, he was money. And you guys were saying earlier on in the season, we’re looking at the technicalities here, but also passing the eye test, the body language continues to be so comfortable. Yeah, this is at the end here. You’re see Colton in front. He and Swayman are whacking sticks pretty good there. You can see Peak, he’s trying to get in to defend this goender and help out. And man, they are slashing and hacking. Well, that was a great battle. Colton, UVM kid. Swayman, main kid. Got a hunch they may know each other a bit. you know, a little a little battle right there. But that was good. And um again, but it was controlled battle. It wasn’t, you know, we’ve seen him at times punch and get out and and I wonder what that does for the mental Yeah. play and and so good. So necessary and uh Yes. So good. So good. So good. Uh you know what else is really good? I know the Avalanche power play isn’t that good, but PK continues. It’s shocking that the ABS power play isn’t good. We talked about what did Brook say? Not enough pucks on. Yeah. Yeah. It it’s just amazing. But that’s sometimes all kidding aside, what happens is that these guys start thinking instead of just doing. Meanwhile, the Bruins and their PK, they rotate. They’ve got the flanks covered and they covered low ice better, Barry. Something that they have struggled with at times. Um it seems like they brought the low guys to 13. Whatever you want to call it, one one doesn’t matter. They bring the low guys back a little bit more. Uh I did, we said this after the second though. Remember Nuskin was really good on that one power play in the middle ice and the Bruins did a little better or they didn’t look for him as much here. This is the replay of the few opportunities he got in the second we thought this was the key part of the hockey game too Billy. You got two backto back uh penalty kills and you’re up two to one, right? And again doesn’t have its little fragile mentally. They don’t have their confidence. You’re able to kill these off and of course Swimman was there for your goalender as well. real key part of the hockey game. Really allowed them to stay in it to kind of stay confident and gets the momentum off these good kills. Number one, big saves. Number two, big PKs are huge momentum builder for your teams. And you know, the best thing about the PK, you know, you’re going to almost always give up a chance. When you get that one save, usually you feel good. But it’s when you when you kill it off, there becomes that all for one, one for all, us against the world mentality. Yep. And and also as you had mentioned earlier, a lot of blocks too, right? 33 total blocks for the Bruins. Just seven for the Colorado Avalanche. You can see the discrepancy of what you would call puck possession. Yeah. So to your point, there could be a lot of ice bags in the dressing room this afternoon. But you know what? They’re going to feel good about it because they really worked their behinds off to uh get the two points this afternoon. I can’t wait to hear from the guys in the dressing room or the head coach, Marco Sturm, who I’m sure also has a big weight off his shoulders. I know there’s a whole season still to play, but this was a good feeling

Thumbs up to the Bs .. but oh man, that first period was brutal.
Very BIG win against a very good team . Great seeing Jack Edwardโs at the game too . Always enjoyed Jack , glad heโs doing well . GO BRUINS !!!
It's about time. Swayman's best game since the 23-24 playoffs
It was a good win. Still don't trust this team. They play a wide open style and would not get far in any playoff series with the roster they have.
After watching B.Orr and the Bruins lose to Montreal in the 1971 series, I don't count out any team. GO BRUINS!!๐๐๐
Seriously need to add NESN to my Streaming device. Can't stand looking forward to October only to sit through another Season. ๐
