Nice article about Suzuki. Former teammates talking about rue potential he showed as a manager while he was a player.

  2. I hope he does well, but with a 1 year contract and a lockout coming in 2027, this just feels like another “punt the ball” year.

Even if we make significant gains this upcoming year, I fear it will be lost due to the lockout.

  3. This is definitely a puff piece Fletcher ran for the org/Perry that’s not uncommon in teams off seasons.

I didn’t really learn WHAT strategies and philosophies Kurt has that would make him a good manager or HOW he will implement some system that can help. All I learned is WHY hiring him isn’t unheard of lol.

Like first they compared him closely to Vogt, which is such a moot point considering the Guardians weren’t a basement dwelling team before Vogt took over + they had a great farm system. Nor did they explain WHAT and WHY Vogt was a good manager.

Similar to when Perry was asked an offseason or 2 ago about his roster building strategy and his response was along the lines of “well its something the Braves, Astros, and Dodgers are successful with” without really giving an understanding of why it was successful lol.

There is the quote from Kurt of “Perry and I are tied at the hip” during his intro and Fletcher bringing up their ties from the Braves to the Angels. It is well known Perry prioritizes hiring his (or his brothers) friends from around the league, gives them huge promos, and elevates them to leaders of our team.

So far that has lead the team to back to back 90 losses and a bottom ranked farm system. And to me, it screams of a GM that does not want ANYTHING to be questioned. And it seems like at the end of the day Kurt will be an extension of Perry.

Which leads to an obvious need of SHEDDING whatever culture and philosophy that is killing our org since 2021, and Kurt seems like a CONTINUATION of those ideals and not a dissenting voice that can help.

At the end of the day, Kurt is an unknown commodity. I hope he does well but from everything I can read, there really isnt some sort of tangible reason they believe he would do well and just keeps defaulting to “He’s a friendly guy and was a catcher!”
