Thatcher Demko, Sherwood, Reichel & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks vs. Rangers (Oct 28, 2025)
You could tell both teams really wanted to win. Um I thought they were probably a hair quicker than us the first half and then I thought we uh we gave a pretty good effort there in the third to to make a push and and get back in the game and uh just couldn’t find, you know, we had a ton of loose pucks kind of laying around in the crease there and just couldn’t find one to to put in the back of the net. But um yeah, it’s disappointing. Connor doesn’t return for the third period. Um, with the number of injuries now, how frustrating is it? Can you remember ever having a stretch like this with the number of guys that are on? Probably not. Um, it’s tough. I don’t know what to tell you. That’s about it. Um, we got a game in two days that we got to get ready for. So, um, hopefully Gar’s okay. Hopefully everybody’s okay. Um, yeah, our focus is on kind of the next man up and going to get some wins. just hasn’t had a lot of problems scoring this year. Just um how different was it for you tonight? I mean, you’ve had that in previous years. We just had have margins that tight where you couldn’t give much up at all. Um yeah, I mean, every game’s different, you know. You know, not sure what the story is going to be each night, but um again, I thought, you know, we created some looks in the third that just didn’t didn’t find the back of net. So, um unfortunately, that’s the nature of the game. It’s going to go that way sometimes. Um it didn’t go our way tonight. It’s quick a goalie that you kind of watched coming up. For sure. I mean, he was my idol. Um I uh I grew up in San Diego when he was kind of coming up through the ranks in LA and um he was definitely a guy that I always idolized and you know, I’ve I’ve been around him a little bit um over the years just kind of working out in the summer and things like that. Uh especially early in my career and um yeah, he got the better of me tonight. thought thought it was probably a favorable match up for us, but I think it’s a good lesson for us that um every game is worth the same and and can’t get too high or too low. We just got to rinse and repeat and uh we got to be ready from from puck drop like every every game is two points on on and we can’t let any any more slip or like we we just got to dig in and you know create something um you know a stretch where the the guys that are out can come back and kind of you know come right back at it and um yeah just stay with it. Yeah. How tough is our right now given, you know, how banged up you are and then Yeah, I mean these guys you can’t really replace. He’s a big part of our team in all situations. Hope hoping he’s he’s he’s okay and um but we’ll see. Yeah, it’s just like I said, we got to pull the rope and unite and just stick together as a team and, you know, kind of win by committee. Yeah, I think sometimes in some games you it just doesn’t get in. I think uh what I liked at the end, we never gave up. We ke kept pushing, kept for check for checking and uh uh that’s what I liked about the game. I know you haven’t been here long, but the injuries continue to rack up for this group with Garland not coming out for the third. What does the mentality need to be when you have this many guys out of the lineup? Yeah, you never want to see guys getting hurt. Um but at the same time, you know, other guys got to step up and uh got to um play a bigger role and um yeah, use that. How difficult is it to uh slot into a lineup and find chemistry with a new team when so many guys are kind of getting sidelined by injuries at the same time? Uh for me it was pretty easy. I think the boys did a good job uh just uh making me comfortable here and uh um they’re all nice. So and on the ice you find that chemistry uh like when you talk a lot on the bench or I talk a lot about plays or watch video. So, uh, um, maybe it takes a little bit time, but, uh, so far I liked it. You had some good looks through the first few games here. Does it feel pretty good for you in terms of what you’re generating even though you haven’t been able to score? Yeah, I got to just put it in the back of the net. I think I Yeah, I got a lot of chances. Uh, but my dad always told me as long as you have chances, you don’t have to be worried about, but I mean, it would be nice uh if if I get one and help the team uh win. Uh, I think today was a good opportunity to do that. But, um, I’m gonna keep pushing, keep trying, and, uh, hopefully goes in next game. How about in terms of the systems play with a new team? Do you feel like you have a good idea now of what the coaching staff’s looking for you to do? Yeah, I think sometimes, uh, you know, they talk to me on the bench about little things, especially in the Done, uh, um, like without the puck, but, uh, so far it’s, uh, uh, it’s it’s been good. So, uh, that helped me a lot. What have you liked the best about your short time in Vancouver so far? Uh, so far I would say the sushi. I ordered sushi for lunch yesterday and probably top in the league. Yeah, you said it. We had we had more in the third for sure. We came out a little bit flat, but they’re a desperate team. you know, they they were a little bit more stiff, a little bit more they were better on the walls in the first, but again, they were desperate and um we we uh thought we had a good third. Um you know, do you have an update on Connor Garland? I don’t. We’re they’re evaluating him right now. So, we’ll find out in the morning probably. We you talked about it a little bit this morning just about how all the injuries and how it’s next up mentality, but is is there a point where you’re like what am I supposed to do as a coach? Oh, you just you don’t I don’t think you can even think that way like and it’s a good question because I think it’s a fair question and but I I think you just can’t go that way. You know what I mean? like there’s we’re going to keep going the way we’re going and you know you keep those guys we came out flat and we had a real emotional game against Edmonton, right? And it was a tough one. Then you come out with a real team that’s not been happy with their game. Uh I think maybe happy with their game but not their results and you know they’ve been in in one themselves where they’ve been on themselves and they came out really hard and stiff on the walls and took us a while to get into it. Um, but we did get into it and he saw us, you know, he felt like if one went in, it was going to be there. But it it is the next man up and there’s nothing he could do except keep going and um that’s what we’re going to do. What about uh on the other end of the ice, Jonathan Quick, 64th save. He moves into a tie for 17th in all time um with Lungquist. What what what do you see from a goalie like that like Quick? Well, he’s a veteran. He’s one, right? and um you know probably a pretty good backup for them um behind the other guys pretty good but just because of his experience and um you know he’s been around a long time so he’s pretty savvy back there with Garland I know he took the big hit from Carrick at the end of the first period he did play the second but is there a chance the the injury occurred on that big hit? Yeah. Um yeah. Yeah. Um the final the empty net goal. Uh I don’t know if you talked to Pety about it after the game like it looked like maybe he thought it was going to be an icing call and wanted to let it go or Yeah, I didn’t talk to him. It was kind of odd. Yeah, from our view it looked like I think he thought it was going to be an icing, but if you I mean I’m not sure how the rest would have called that, but hey, that kind of thing happens. I mean, you know, the guy’s been playing so good that you know, we can’t overthink that one, right? Tom Mander makes his NHL debut tonight. What did you think of him? Yeah, it took it’s like, you know, it took him a little bit earlier, but it’s fast and they were coming and I thought he settled down and made some great decisions and was good with the puck and he even made some good offensive plays as well. But, you know, jumping into a heavy pace game like that, it’s for a young D is always going to be hard, but I thought he I thought he did well. You were here last year for Elias Patterson coming to the NHL level. What’s the challenge for a young defenseman trying to take that step that Willander is now trying to take? You just need games. You need, you know, you look at these teams that win in the playoffs, they’re D. You need 200 games. You need 250. You need 300. I mean, it’s just playing. And, you know, he’s doing great. And he plays hard. He There’s things that that he’s would he would know better if he just got more games. And uh it happens to every young D. And I still think he plays hard. He’ll get there. But he’s put also in a situation where his minutes are up against tougher opponents and things like that. So, um, but that’s the way it is right now. We have no choice. And hey, he’ll he’ll be better for it.

Can’t even be mad with how many players are injured
"We are so back" cancelled due to injuries.
evander kane is garbo, same with o connor and debrusk usless
Same ol Canucks lose when supposed to win
Kane's retired like 2 years ago, best to give opportunity to younger players
Volume of injuries is making it so hard for the team to get a rhytm going, gotta feel for them
8 players injured and it's only been 11 games. I truly forgot how it feels like to have a healthy team. On the bright side Willander and Reichel looked good.
This team is absolutely cursed… -1 player each game. Hope they all have a speedy recovery.
Impossible not to feel bad for Demko. Dude literally stands on his head every night and this team cant find a way to score. Injuries or not you have to find a way to score.
With the injuries i dont blame them.. not a good excuse tho still could have won.
The management DEMONSTRATES this team….
I really don’t see a cup in sight here 🌧️
"Hopefully Gar's okay, hopefully everybody's okay, heh"
Are we ever going to talk about the Canucks orginazation health management?
Short-sighted moves, that's the culture there though, it comes straight from the top
More injured guys right now than any other team as far as I can see. What the hell is going on?!?
Listen , I’d rather have these injuries happening in the first 20 games. It will give your young players experience in the NHL, so if they are needed down the stretch it’s less of a shock factor to have them slot in
Get rid of BAINS for the love of god
8 starters out. nothing to hang your head about.
If the Canucks can score two goals with Demco in the net they will win 90 percent of their games..
Bains and O Connor are not NHL players. Kane has also been terrible.
🎶 JT MILLEr
A little to emotional against edmonton. Sherwood thought he won the stanley cup after that game. Talk to her about checking her emotions. Its game 10, not the second round of the playoffs.
Good game great effort . Great job boys
Holy injuries
Canucks will never tank, so the hockey gods are injuring everyone so that we can “tank” and get Mckenna and then we can start a mini rebuild. And then win the cup. Lol
I really like Riechel. If he sticks with it. I think they’re going to start to fall for him. He seems to be in all the right places. Best of luck to him.
We should pretty much trade Quinn and get some good young players, lose the rest of the season and shoot for the number 1 pick. We will never win a cup this way. Never
Water down the league with expansion and we get AHL, yay fun
