Sixers never wavered. The Sixers are 3 and 0 for the first time in six years. and they are trying to make it 4-0 for the first time in six years. Nothing much else to say, man. In case you were, I don’t know, sleeping under a rock, who knows? Um, Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edgecomb made history again last night. Tyrese Maxi dropped 43 points against the Orlando Magic. I was about to say the Charlotte Hornets for a second. I feel like there’s been so many games going on, but um, against the Orlando Magic, who are a really good team. Maxi dominates 43 points. Tyrese Maxi is now the first 76er in franchise history to have 40 plus points in two of the first three games of the season. Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edgecomb have now combined for 186 points in the first three games. That is the most by any backcourt in NBA history through the first three games. So Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edgecomb have been historic. BJ Edgecomb second all time in Sixers franchise history for most points through the first three games. He missed the record by two. He almost beat Wilt Chamberlain’s record. So VJ’s hooping, Maxi is hooping, and the Sixers are on fire. Now, couple big updates for tonight’s game. Number one, Joel Embiid is back. Nick Nurse talked to the media a little while ago. Joel will be on his minute restriction. Like he said after the Hornets game, he does not like being on the restriction. It’s not his call, but Joel will start tonight. He will be on the minute restriction. I don’t think you can do that all season long. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. But Joel’s going to play 20 minutes and he’s probably going to sit the fourth quarter again. Dominic Barlo remains out with his shoulder laceration. He’s boys with Tyrese Maxi, and he was supposed to be the starting power forward coming into training camp for this team. His name is Trendan Watford. Ladies and gentlemen, it is the season debut of Trendan Watford. So although Dominic Barlo’s out and the Sixers survived last night, they now get a little reinforcement in Trendan Watford. Now I would expect him to be on a minute restriction. He is not starting tonight. I repeat, he’s not starting and neither is Jabari Walker. So Jabari Walker had a bit of a rough game last night. I still think he has promise, but it’ll be Tyrese Maxi, VJ Edgecomb, Kelly Ubé again, who had a magnificent game last night, maybe his best as a Sixer. Justin Edwards gets the start at the four and Joel Embiid at the five. So, let me know what you think about that. I’m a little surprised that he’s going to Justin Edwards over a guy like Jabari Walker who brings that athleticism, who can rebound next to Embiid. Don’t know if it’s the best decision by Nick Nurse, but we’ll wait and see. Hopefully Walker continues to get more reps. I thought Trenan Watford may start, but apparently he’ll probably be on like a minute restriction as well because why not? Why wouldn’t he be starting, you know? But anyway, those are the big updates. As for the Washington Wizards, uh I saw earlier today on the injury report Trey Johnson was listed. Let’s see if he’s actually still listed. I forgot to check. Trey Johnson is dayto-day and he’s questionable. So, I don’t know if he’s playing. Balo Kulabali is out with a thumb injury. So, two young promising players. By the way, speaking of Trey Johnson, he is third in rookie scoring through the first three games. Guess who’s number one? You already know. VJ Edgecom, Cedric Coward, number two on that list. Coniple number four. So, Cooper Flag. Cooper Flag who he’s been struggling. Mavs have been struggling. But anyway, uh Trey Johnson has been a bucket getter off the bench for Washington. VJ Edgecom, we know what he’s doing right now. Uh, quick summary, real quick, one to two-minute recap here, then we’ll go into our predictions and all that. The Washington Wizards are 1-2. They have absolutely no defense. Okay, they gave up 133 to Milwaukee. They gave up 107 to Dallas and then they gave up 139 to the Charlotte Hornets. I mean, you want to talk about gaping holes in your defense. Um, offensively, they have a good nice young scoring punch. If you remember last year, they were the second worst team in the NBA. They lost it in the final game of the year. It didn’t matter anyway. They got the sixth pick. Um, and they were going to take Ace Bailey till the Utah Jazz said screw it and took him anyway. But the Washington Wizards have some nice young scoring guards. And right now, their leading scoreer is Keshan George. He was their first round pick last year. He’s averaging 20 points a game through the first three. Did not play well against the Hornets, but he’s been pretty solid. Trey Johnson, don’t know if he’s playing yet. He’s been solid off the bench. And they have CJ McCollum. And I don’t know if you guys know this or not. Fun fact, CJ McCollum has actually averaged over 20 points a game for the last 12 seasons, and he’s never made an All-Star game. So, in my opinion, CJ McCollum is one of the more underrated uh players in NBA history. Not saying he’s some, you know, top number one option superstar, but all those years next to Dame, I mean, C.J. McCollum’s a bucket getter. Now he is 34. They also have Chris Middleton who’s 34. It almost in a way reminds me of the Sixers, right? Bunch of young cats running around and then the two old heads who are 30 plus who are just trying to get their I get, you know, get get theirs. I guess I could say, you know, I I don’t want to say impose their will, but you know, just try to fit in kind of, you know. So, uh, CJ McCollum, Chris Middleton, they got Cam Whitmore, Bub Carrington was great last year. He’s out to a bit of a slow start. Then they got some shooters off the bench. First round pick Will Riley, you know, Cory Kissford, who they signed that good contract. And of course, the second, excuse me, the number two overall pick last year and Alex Sar, uh, who’s off to a pretty good start this year. For the Sixers, Tyrese Maxi leading the league in scoring 34 points a game. We know what VJ’s doing. Quinton Grimes. Once the Sixers get Jared McCain back, it’s over. Nobody is stopping this team ever again. So anyway, that’s my take on this game. Um, the Wizards can’t defend. They’re not that good of a rebounding team. Sixers are also at the bottom of the league in defense right now. A lot of people have been asking on Twitter today. What do the Sixers do when Paul George is healthy? Well, they play him because he can actually defend the wing. Um, Joel Embiid and Paul George still have a role on this team. It’s just that the offense is able to run through Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edge. And I don’t care if you like it or not. The 76ers are now 4 and 0 for the first time in six years. The 76ers have pulled off three big comebacks late in the fourth quarter or overtime in the first four games of the season. They went into Washington on a backto back and they came back from down 19 late in the third early in the fourth and they were down eight to go with two minutes to play. They go on a 100 run to end regulation. Overtime comes. They’re down by five with two something to go. They can’t score. Their legs are dead. And once again, somehow someway, whether it’s a big three from Quinton Grimes or a big floater from Tyrese Maxi or an absolute huge block from a Damona jumping out of the gym, the Sixers find a way to make plays and they win this basketball game. And all of the other wins were special. All of the other wins told me that this team is not last year, that they can be really good. But tonight’s win was just completely different. This was embedded in their DNA. They had to reach deep into their souls to find a way to get the energy to wrap this game up and to come all the way back. And they did exactly that. You want to talk about digging deep. I mean, we’ll go over a million examples, but one that comes to mind is Tyrese Maxi. And oh, by the way, we kept all those receipts this summer when they said Tyrese Maxi couldn’t be the guy. When they said Tyrese Maxi was just a sidekick. Well, how about 39 again tonight? He’s averaging 37 and a half points through the first four games. How about 40? How about 28? How about 43 and then 39 on a backto back? Are you kidding me? Tyrese Maxi is the MVP of the league. Maybe outside of WBY right now. He’s unbelievable. And did I mention that he has played 90 minutes the last two games? I mean, are we kidding right now? Tyrese Maxi, I believe, played 45 minutes yesterday. Tyrese Maxi played 92 minutes in a twoame span and he’s out here dropping 70. No, let me do the math in my head. 82 points. 82 points in 90 something minutes. Hold on, let me make sure. Let me check how many he played yesterday. He played 42 yesterday. 89 minutes. This guy is unbelievable, bro. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. 82 points in 89 minutes the last two nights. He can’t even get any lift on his floater. He could barely even shoot the ball and he’s out here giving buckets in crunch time to the Washington Wizards. What else do I say, man? This was a game that felt like the Sixers were not supposed to win. The Washington Wizards were hitting every shot for three and a half quarters in this game. They could not miss whether it was Alex Sar or Trey Johnson or CJ McCullum or Bub Carrington. It did not matter. Whoever put a shot up knocked it down. They were shooting 58% from the field. They were shooting over 50% from three. The Washington Wizards had a grip on this game for the entire game. But like I told everybody during the live chat in the third and fourth quarter who said it was over, the Sixers don’t go down until the clock hits zero. Until it is officially over. This team does not die. It is embedded in their DNA and they feel special. I said they feel a little bit different, but this team is a bunch of dogs and they do not give up. They fight and any Sixers team in the past 10 years would have lost this game. This team is different. This team is just different, man. I mean, where do I even start, bro? I I don’t even want to talk about the beginning of the game, but we have to. We have to. And I know people are going to talk about Joel Embiid. The comments have been coming in crazy all night. People want to trade Joel Embiid. They want to get Joel Embiid out. Let’s talk about the game with Embiid versus without Embiid. Joel Embiid came into this game and in the first quarter, keep in mind he did not play yesterday. They were running the offense through Embiid. Lot of dribble handoffs, lot of taking it one-on-one against Alex. Embiid was dominating offensively, but he was giving up a lot of points defensively, rebounding the ball. He was limping around in the first quarter. He didn’t look that nimble on his feet. And Joel Embiid and the Sixers continued to run the offense through Joel for the first two to three quarters. His minute restriction was at 20. Nick Nurse let him go 23. and he let him go until there was like eight or seven minutes left in the game. Now, I’m gonna say this again like I said it yesterday. We love Joel. We do think he has a role in this team. We do think he can contribute. However, Tyrese Maxi is literally screaming to Nick Nurse and the rest of the team and the fan base and the city, I have turned the corner. This is my time. This is my team. If you let me play like I am in control every single night, I can be an MVP candidate when the game is in doubt or when the Sixers need a run or when they need a big shot or a big bucket. It was Tyrese Maxi going downhill every single time. The guy is absolutely electric when it matters most. I think that’s what I take away without watching this game back first and foremost. It’s like Tyrese Maxi is just a freaking bucket, man. And I’m screaming. I barely even have a voice right now. But it has to be said, man. Tyrese Maxi is a freaking bucket. In a game where the Wizards were literally not missing shots, it took a late game stretch from Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edgecomb and Quinton Grimes to win this game. And I don’t want to leave Grimes out either. Quinton Grimes had 22 points off the bench tonight. Quinton Grimes may have been the most clutch player tonight outside of Tyrese Maxi. The Sixers were down eight points with two minutes to go. I said on the live show, they need a quick six points in two minutes or something like that. Bang bang plays and you go from a Tyrese Maxi bucket, you then have a couple big defensive plays. Listen, a Demona had five blocks in fourth quarter in overtime alone. Five boards and five blocks all in the last 10 minutes of the game, which is unbelievable. And it is true. As soon as Joel Embiid went to the bench who couldn’t get any lift on that left knee, it was a Dembona who just brought that spark immediately and it brought us back to what the Sixers have been doing in the first three games, which is playing up tempo. They were they’ve been playing fast. They’ve been playing up tempo. This is how teams are playing now. The Sixers have to keep playing up tempo. Like I said, Joel and Paul and all the rest are gonna have their roles on this team, but you have to play fast. That is why Daryl my Sixers are investing in all these guards and why the Sixers can have one of the best guard rotations in the NBA when they’re all healthy because they can just beat you a million ways, man. So when Joel Embiid came out and a Demona came in, it goes from a big maxi shot. The energy is infectious. Bona with two backto back blocks and then Quinton Grimes with a monster three. It felt like Quinton Grimes just hit big three after big three in this game. And I don’t know what the score was or how much time was left, but the Sixers set a beautiful flare screen at the top of the ark. Bona comes over. Bona sets the flare screen. Grimes rotates out and he nails a three. It was one of the wetest jump shots I’ve ever seen and he drained it and I believe that tied up the game. And then the Sixers had another big bona block. They called it a goalended first. They reviewed it and then they ruled it that it was uh a block. So then we had the jump ball. Before that, Quinton Grimes had an unbelievable block out on the perimeter. Quinton Grimes impact in this game cannot go unnoticed, man. Quinton Grimes is telling Daryl My Quinton Grimes was so clutch in this game. Grimes, Maxi, Bona. I’m not overreacting saying the Sixers can’t play with Joel Embiid, but as we said and echoed all off season, they have to play a different style of basketball. I mean, bro, there’s going to be a lot we don’t get to talk about tonight because of how much happened in this game. Kelly Ubé 17 and 11. Jabari Walker had eight points and two rebounds in six minutes in the first half. I was saying they should have brought Walker out in the third quarter to start him over Edwards. He didn’t even see the floor the rest of the night. He didn’t even see the floor. Nick Nurse was going with Joel Embiid heavy. Bona was on the bench. Bona only had five minutes played until he got into the game in the fourth quarter and then he goes for five rebounds and five blocks at the rest of the game. My overall takeaway is that this team is so freaking clutch. They don’t die. They never give up. Even if they lost this game, we would have walked away with our heads up, tipping our cap to the Washington Wizards and saying it’s okay. They couldn’t miss tonight. It was one of those games in October, but the Sixers have a lot of good equity. But now we’re sitting here saying this Sixers team might never lose again. The Sixers might never lose again. That’s how I feel. They’re impeccable. They’re inevitable. They just don’t stop winning. I have not felt this good about a Sixers team in a very long time. And I’m not saying they’re going to win the championship right now. But what I am saying is that they can compete against anybody. They have the formula. They have the pieces. Now it’s just about reps and about consistency. A lot of people have said, “Well, what happens when Paul George comes back?” Well, when Paul George comes back, he and Joel Embiid are going to have to realize that the offense must be ran through Tyrese Maxi and VJ Edgecomb and Jared McCain and Quinton Grimes. I’m not saying there’s not times for it. I’m not saying there’s not quarters for it coming into this game. I said that it would be lethargic. I said it would be slow. It’s a second of a backtoback. Your first of the season. You saw it wearing down Maxi. You saw it wearing down VJ Edgecom, who I thought played okay tonight. Maxi just I he he went into like he went into all the reserves to pull out the energy to win this game. I can’t believe and I said it on the live stream at the end of that fourth quarter when Tyrese Maxi walked off the floor with a big fat smile on his face, I knew he was going to come through. getting fouled left and right. I mean, his body has to be hurting. I mean, are you kidding me? Are we serious? 82 points in 89 minutes. This team is unbelievable, man. They shot well. They they they rebounded in the second half. They defended well. The Wizards were getting so many open looks. They were getting so many open shots. The Sixers felt like they had no gas left in the tank. I tweeted that out near the end of the game. They felt like they had no gas left in the tank and still they win. This team is exciting. They are thrilling. Tyrese Maxi said that they want to impose a different will this year. They want to have a different culture, DNA. Nickner Nur said that he wants the fans to be fired up thinking that they played their ass off and left it all on the floor when they leave the arena. There was Sixers fans on the road in that empty Washington stadium that’s been abandoned for years and the Sixers fans were going nuts. I got a lot more to talk about, but I want to get to the phone lines. I know they have to be buzzing and I’m going to go to the chat as well, but I just want to go through this final sequence, okay? Because again, my head is fog filled right now. My head is so unclear. I’m calling the game. I’m reacting. I can’t believe what I’m witnessing in real time. They were down by 19 in the third quarter. It felt like the game was over. Matter of fact, they were down, let’s see, 16 to start the fourth. They were down 16 points to start the fourth quarter. We get all the way down late in the fourth quarter. 240 to go. They’re down by 10. They were down by 10 with 240 left. Maxi makes a shot. Nice defense by the Sixers. Grimes hits a clutch three. And and I want to say this too, Maxi had four turnovers tonight. The way that he is seeing the floor right now is unbelievable, man. They said Tyrese Maxi couldn’t be that lead guard. We had questions about it, but he is taking the playmaking leap. He is seeing everything. Some of these late game dishes to Quinton Grimes to set up a wideopen three have just been perfect timing, man. Maxi hits a 23 ft step back after the Wizards lose the ball. Quinton Grimes, couple big defensive plays there. And then the Sixers are down by three. And this is where it was at. 40 seconds left. The Sixers set a flare screen at the top. Grimes wide open for three. And he just doesn’t miss the clutch shots, man. Wizards get it back. Adona with an unbelievable block that they called a goalending and then reversed. And then the Wizards win the jump ball. Sixers get it back. Chris Middleton, I think he was on Quinton Grimes and another big stop. And then we go to overtime and the Sixers go scoreless for three minutes. They go scoreless for literally 302. They were scoreless for three out of the five minutes. Maxi makes a shot. VJ picks up a foul. Sar misses a three. Keshan George misses a three. Sixers come back. Maxi makes a one-foot driving dunk. Backto back dunks. Maxi with the dunk. Then they come back. Maxi floats it up. He misses it off the back iron, but the heads up play for a Dembona to come flying down the lane for a two-handed putback. And then the Wizards miss a layup. Sixers get the board. Maxi gets fouled. Sixers lead by three. Another miss by the Wizards. Actually, a personal foul. Sixers get two more or one more free throw. One for two. Then the Wizards make it even more cardiac by hitting a three ball with seven seconds. Maxi ices the game with free throws. Grimes ices the game with free throws. I don’t know what the Wizards were doing throwing it fullourt. That was one of the best wins that I can remember. Unbelievable on the road. Second of a backto back against the Washington Wizards. The Wizards were unbelievable in this game for 45 minutes of it. They shot 40% from three. I I mean, my gosh, man. Sixers are Sixers are unbelievable, man. I I don’t know. I don’t know. This is a guy that we have watched nurture here in Philadelphia who has grown up in front of our eyes. We knew early on that he had some of that star DNA, but to see him out here in the first four games of the year doing this and playing the way he is, like Maxi has certainly struggled over the years with finding his role and knowing what he needs to do on a nightly basis, but now he knows. He knows what he needs to do, man. It’s right there in front of him. And I like how he’s not wasting any time doing it. Even even in this game when Joel Embiid, you know, was running the offense and doing a bunch of dribble handoffs, like Maxi still was calling for the ball. Maxi still wanted the shots. He didn’t go into hideout mode. We’ve seen Maxi do that a lot over the years. Like we’ve always said, Maxi’s got to impose his will. Give me the ball. I can take this team where they need to go. And that’s what he did, man. I mean, Maxi is special. He really is as a person and as a player. Cool. Jay, member for seven months says, “The East runs by us now. Never count this team out.” I would agree with that. I would agree with that. Um, a damn bona man. Uh, you know what? Let’s let’s do the player of the game. Let’s do the player of the game. I want to know from you right now in the chat, who would you give the player of the game to tonight? This is a really interesting one. And I feel like the first couple of games have been clear-cut. We know it’s mostly Maxi or VJ. Who gets the player of the game tonight? Because you could look at Tyrese Maxi on the second of a backto back, dropping 39 and 10 and doing his thing and taking charge late. You could also look at Quinton Grimes dropping 23 off the bench, a big steal, a big block, two big threes at the end of the game, and really just hit every clutch shot that there was. Excuse me, just burped. Um, but you could also look at a Dembona. You could look at a Dembona who came in and had five freaking blocks and five rebounds in 18 minutes. He only played five minutes in the first three quarters. And back to exclusive on the Discord’s point, I thought he made a great point about like where was the athleticism in this game? And the stats might not show it like, “Oh, this was a crazy game from Bona,” but people that watch this game and don’t just look at the box score know that he saved this game single-handedly. I don’t know why Jabari Walker didn’t see the floor again. Drummond had 10 rebounds in 12 minutes. He’s just a rebounding machine. But the Sixers needed a little bit more. They needed Dembona to develop an offensive game. But his defense, his instincts, the guy jumps 8 ft off the ground and he swats the ball into the fourth row. He He’s just electric, man. He’s absolutely electric. We saw it last year. We kept advocating for him to get more minutes. So, against the grain, I’m actually going to say a Dem Bona is the player of this game. Maybe I’m crazy. Let me know if I am. I’m going with Bona because I think without Adm Bona, they don’t win this game. I, you know, no offense against Joel Embiid. Again, it’s just the way the game was going, the feel of the game. If Bona doesn’t make the plays he does, I don’t think they win this game. You felt the energy shift. You felt it shift. Couple maxis in the chat. Couple Bonas. A lot of people saying to Dona, “Yeah, I agree. I agree. He was blocking everything. He has like 10 blocks in the last three games. It’s unreal, man. Even Grimes again on that that block out on the perimeter. I mean, it’s it’s something, man. you you know with with a a team that can win a lot of games that can go deep into games what you look for early in the season is, you know, how do they play late in games in adverse situations? How do they play when the game’s on the line? How do they come back? Do they give up? Do they just kind of, you know, get into this tunnel vision mode offensively? It feels like the Sixers led by the young guns just keep heating up as the game goes on. Matter of fact, yesterday I was scared the entire game because they were ahead too early. They were ahead too early. And tonight they did what they have done early in this season and they have made a huge comeback when nobody thinks they can pull it out. I mean, it’s incredible, man. It really is. Wow. I mean, that’s all I could say. Wow. Like, Tyrese Maxi, VJ Edgecom, I didn’t think it would turn around this fast. I didn’t think it would turn like this. Joel Embiid did not play a bad game tonight. He just didn’t play the game that the Sixers needed. He didn’t play a game that the Sixers needed. But I think the Sixers know what they need to do. I think they know what they need to do. By the way, after Quinton Grimes tied up the game, Joel Embiid was losing his mind on the bench. Vibes of this team are just are nuts. 4-0, man. Forna. I I believe in this team wholeheartedly until the game ends. I said that in the third quarter. I said it in the fourth quarter. I They’re not out until they’re out with me. And I love that. And then you were down by five with two minutes to go in overtime. And you still won the game. How? How, man? It was unbelievable. It was unbelievable, man. I mean, damn, bro. Damn, man. The only way to successfully play Embid is to go big when he’s on the floor. Play bona at the 4 watford or walker or Barlow at the 3 with oubre at 2 and VJ point. That should be their 5 when Embid is on the floor, try to intimidate and control pace with him out there
