Pop Warner drills for a Pop Warner defense

  1. Working on tackling mid season is absolutely insane. In high school, we’d work on tackling a ton during 2 a days, but once the season starts we didn’t drill it, you just practice the way you play (when it’s live reps in practice of course). But for a professional football team to be doing tackling drills in week 9 is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen.

  2. I heard the secret to KC’s recent success is mid season smear the queer.

Damn, what did you guys call it?

  3. I don’t really know football like that, but can someone who does help me understand if this team suffers more from a “fundamentals of tackling” issue, or a “took a really bad angle to the ball carrier”/“was terribly out of position” thing.

I assume it’s both, but the latter seems more likely to my untrained eye.

  4. Maybe my coach in high school was just really, really good, but even though I haven’t stepped foot on a football field in 12 years I think I could still tackle better than most of these guys. Granted I was a small dude so literally the only way I was bringing people down was with perfect technique but good lord, how did these guys get to this level without being able to break down and wrap up?

  5. Or……

Rather than trying to run into someone with just your shoulder and none of your body how about you try to wrap up upon contact? Or here is another suggestion how about the defender initiate contact? You know, knock the shit out of the ball carrier and take him to the ground? Wrapping up shouldn’t be practiced at this level. But given the crowd in question I guess.

Its amazing how many of these guys league wide at that can’t do this. And I blame coaching across the board. Not just here. Watch football Saturday and Sunday and tell me if the fundamentals dont disgust you.

  6. Imagine going through med school, passing the exams, being top of your class and chief resident, and then when it’s time to do your job you struggle to apply a bandage to a simple cut.

This is the equivalent of the Bengals D.

  7. They are drills about the fundamentals of tackling. We clearly need them, angles are atrocious, and the ability to get someone to the ground is a joke.

  8. It cannot get much worse – back to basics might work and could be a way to reset.

  9. Funny enough when they asked D Knight if they were going to do tackling drills he kinda laughed and said they were too busy preparing for specific looks for the bears.

Nope, I guess you mother fuckers are tackling today.

  10. that’s awesome! I’m so glad that NFL pro defensive players are learning the fundamentals they teach to 8 year olds.

the defense is fixed and we are super bowl favourites!
