This is EXACTLY what the NBA was afraid of…
This is exactly what people feared would happen with the San Antonio Spurs as Dylan Harper, who’s looking to be the third straight rookie of the year for San Antonio, put on an absolute clinic in a game against the Brooklyn Nets that went down to the wire when it really shouldn’t have. But it wasn’t just him. Victor Wyama once again continuing his MVP level performances and the combination of these two even on a game where Stfan Castle didn’t have his best night scares the rest of the NBA. And we’re going to start right here. Yes, this I know. What is this flashbang of a thing I’m showing? It’s the Lorax credit score. This is what helped the Spurs get back into the game. This is what was shown at the Frostbank Center before the Spurs put on that run at the end of the game to come back and beat the Brooklyn Nets. So, just had to show that to you because if I had to see it, so do you. But let’s take a look at the box score. Look, this game at halftime was it looked like it was going to be a route. We were already talking about when we sit in the fourth quarter because we have a back-to-back with Toronto on Monday, but Victor Wimbeyama came out and showed an incredible performance. And I will get to Dylan Harper because there’s a few things I got to point out, but WBY had an insane game and a day that wasn’t Stfan Castle’s best. A day where Deon Vasel had a clutch steal and slam at the end of regulation. Even Carter Bryant getting a nice five minutes in the game. Victor Winyama, of course, as always, put on an insane performance. 31 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, four assists, three steals, nine stops for Victor Webinama. And uh there we go. Six blocks. He has 18 blocks this season. Nobody else has more than seven. Can we just think about that for a second? Webby has that many blocks. Nobody else has more than seven. Victor has 18. Victor had six blocks just today. No one else in the league has more than seven. Now, there are of course other games going on right now, but what a start for the San Antonio Spurs. Again, Victor Webbyama uh to some extent putting the Spurs on their back, but on his back, but like he didn’t even have a great game. 10 for 15 from the free throw line. He was missing his free throws. Started out pretty rough early, still only 9 for 21 from the field. And look, his minutes when he was off the court, though, very much were the minutes that the Brooklyn Nets came back. Cam Thomas dropping 40. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter cuz the Spurs are now 3 and 0. 1-0 at home, 2-0 on the road, tied for the top of the West with the OKC Thunder, the defending champions. And look, there are kings to work out because while WBY was incredible again, getting six blocks, the Spurs without him on the floor and especially without Luke Cornett to back him up were rough. There was many minutes during this game where just Bismac Bybo couldn’t get it couldn’t get it done. 12 minutes for Biombo, two fouls. One of them was a flagrant for stepping under Cam Thomas, but those were the minutes where Brooklyn, like who was down by over 20 points at halftime, managed to claw their way back and be up by as much as four in the fourth quarter. They made the comeback mostly in the third, outscoring the Spurs by 14 in the third quarter, but it was the Spurs who managed to come back at the end. And the three-point shooting was a big part of why San Antonio ended this game where they did. WBY taken by far his most threes of the season. Tied for the team lead with Deon Vel shot three for six from three. Vel went four for six, but they both attempted six. The Spurs 44% from three, 78% from the line. And that ended up luckily being the difference. And shout out to Julian Champeni who made a difference as well. But like we can’t lie, these are legit MVP numbers. Like absolute MVP numbers. There’s a reason we’re 3 and 0. No one else in the league has more than seven blocks. WBY is averaging through three games. We is averaging six blocks. No one else in the league has more than seven. That’s insane. But as much as I want to shout out Wemby, and there’s so many other guys I want to talk about like Champenny being clutch today, lots of nice made threes. Castle was not at his best. Still shot 50% with 13 six and three. Five turnovers is something he’s going to have to fix up. Devin Vel was really nice this game. Four for six from three. Had that steal at the end that sealed the game. Really 16 points for him. And Kell Johnson, I got to shout out him, man. Big body. This man right here. Kell Johnson. What a performance. He had 11 points in the first quarter, plus 19 for the Spurs. But there’s no doubt it was Dylan Harper’s day today. Dylan Harper was a man. Well, a monster amongst men is what I wanted to say. This dude was going downhill like crazy. He missed one transition layup early in the game, and after that, it felt like the finishing ability just went through the roof. We knew that he looked like a star player from the get-go, but my gosh, his ability to finish in traffic, especially in clutch moments, was beyond belief. And this is exactly why fans were scared of the Spurs when we got the second overall pick and managed to take this guy right here. Sweater available. Link in the description. By the way, you guys get 10% off for watching this video. You’re welcome. 20 points, eight assists, six rebounds, two steals, eight for 11 from the field. But as much as Bala posts a lot, oh, this way, this way. A lot of the best Spurs stats out there. Fantastic. One of the best follows if you’re a Spurs fan. There’s some other aspects of Dylan Harper’s game that were the most impressive to me. zero zero turnovers, 20 points, eight assists, zero turnovers off the bench, six rebounds, eight assists, two steals, eight for 111 field goal, the first rookie guard in franchise history with a 25 and5 game on 70% from the field. Another stat shown during the game, he was only the second Spurs rookie in history to have a 20.8 assist game off the bench. The only other one was Cedric Maxwell. What a great great game from Dylan Harper. And again, you watched him. He was cutting through the defense like butter. He didn’t even have a step on you. And he’d find a way to create space. But this euro step there on Saraf. That one going straight up on Clowny right here through Agor Demond. The Euro step getting the nice finish. The traffic in traffic finish there near the end of the game. What a performance from him. But I want to highlight something else. The plus 33. That to me is the biggest that’s the craziest thing here. In the first half he was I think earned like I think his first 12 minutes or something on the floor he was a plus 23 and again later the net started coming back with him on the floor a bit but if you look at the plus minus of so many of these Spurs players the second best on the team was Kell at plus 19 and then he had a plus 13, Vicela at plus 12. I know plus minus is a flawed stat, especially if you use it in small samples, but to look at this game when it was a tale of two halves and there was that stretch from the start of the second half to halfway through the fourth quarter where the Nets really clawed their way back and even the very start of the game, the Spurs got off to a slow start, down 11 to five. When Dylan Harper was in, the team was so much better because he was creating so much. He took on that true point guard role, something that Stefon Castle has had a tough time getting into this season. Those passes that Castle’s making are really not that great, not that crisp. He’s having some turnover problems. Nine against New Orleans, another five turnovers today with only three assists and four fouls for him. But Dylan Harper when he was out there was creating, he was out passing and also slashing to the rim. Creating that space for himself is what allowed him to send passes out to lots of other players. Like he could have passed to Kell there, but he had the nice layup. He had eight assists and zero turnovers plus 33. When Harper was on the floor, the Spurs were 33 points better than the Nets in a game that only ended like I think 10 points apart. This game was close until the very end. The Nets were winning until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter there, even though the Spurs were up over 20 at halftime. And when you’re looking at the future of the San Antonio Spurs in an off day for Castle, a day where an off day for WBY is still 304 and nine stocks, whatever. Like like the fact that this is an off day for WBY is just anyway like Webby is just beyond belief at this point. Wo wo wo. Yes, sir. Victor Webeyama. But Dylan Harper to be able to do this on a day where Castle is really not himself. We is good obviously, but not like, you know, he’s not shooting super efficiently, missing some free throws. Harper to be able to come out and do this, not miss a free throw, 20 points, eight assists, six rebounds, zero turnovers, a plus 33 is absolutely insane. And it’s why people are scared of the Spurs. It’s why the NBA is looking at the top of the West like 3 and 0 already. Like this is a crazy hot start. And the Spurs absolutely can keep going. We beat Brooklyn today, Toronto tomorrow, 8:00 PM Eastern, then Miami, then Phoenix. Those are three more winnable games. Now, MB did look a little bit gassed for a lot of this game. So, I’m hoping he gets some good rest versus before we play Toronto. But again, if the Spurs can continue on this pace, the sky is the limit. I don’t know where this team can go. But with Dylan Harper, with WBY, with Castle, and still with Sohan and Fox, and even a guy, and without Cornet, these guys coming back, this team can hit even newer heights. So, leave some love for the Spurs down below. That’ll do it for this episode of Spurs Digest. Thank you to everyone who tuned in for the live watch along. By the way, it was an absolute blast. Was just at the game, it was soooo fuun 🎉 GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!
Deepest team since 2014
I Hope SOCHAN will be our starter. Barnes doesn’t deserve anymore to be a starter.
0 TOs in 29 minutes for DH being a 3-game rookie is insane, NGL. GSG!!!
In the last 2 games, Harper is incredible. He is not playing like a rookie. He is very smart reading the plays and making the right decision. One thing I observed in this game is we missed Kornet in the last stretch of this game. Nets clogged the paint everytime Wemby has the ball. And that can easily resolve by having another big that can impose scoring threat like Kornet does. The league is over when Spurs started clinching the 3s and that is why we badly needed Fox as many teams would have double or triple team Wemby.
Blocks – Compare Wemby’s total to other TEAMS’ total. He has more individually than entire teams do
Ginobili
Spurs’ backcourt: The Downhill Divers
8-0 including preseason, not too bad! I’m worried about tomorrow if Luke won’t be back. We need him bad!
This game showed what a good signing Kornet is.
Harper needs to have more playing time to shine.
That’s it. I’m convinced Barnes is part of the gambling ring. Bro is straight dog water.
Finnaly someone has noticed the rookie, people are so focused in Wemby, but Harper is a solid player… I will not be surprised if in the end of the season his is our number 2 (no pun intended)
Damn, Wemby missing FT? Should he seek an advice to the goat of FT sga? 😆
Kidding aside, Wemby stats are freaky. He's coming for that MVP title, watch out NBA the aliens has woken up
Can Harper start please
Yea you guys look elite. Think about a defensive set that involves kornet near the rim
Fox
Castle
Harper/kj/vassell
playing a switch zone on the perimeter
And Wemby below the free throw line
Arms wide
Just patrolling everything 😭
He could contest 3s
And protect the paint!
lowkey cheating lol
This team has too much talent for the league
Its all rigged anyway
It's insane to think Wemby had a bad game with the stats he had today lmao
Harper is a refined S.Castle. The moment gets to them too often, stressing on shots, selfish plays, too nonchalant. They better not let that 3-0 get to their heads.
He was gassed because he couldn’t get a break like normal with no Kornet or Olynyk
Harrison Barns shooting woes continue
Let’s hope our boy Luke can come back he takes alot of pressure off of our divine God Emperor Wembanyama ❤️❤️
Wemby's 18 blocks by himself has him tied for 4th in the League with the Celtics, meaning he is outblocking 26 other teams….
Harper 1 castle 2 wemby 5
Vernon Maxwell Spurs
I thought Wemby was going to get that 5/5/5/5/5. We lose this type of game last year. I love how they matched Nets defensive energy in the beginning.
Wemby should have even more blocks, stat man always manage to miss some. They missed 1 block on game 1 against the mavs and another 1 against the pels. And the game ended 1 block away from a triple double. 😒
We sucked in the last 3/4 of the 3rd, and first 1/2 of the 4th. But remember we ALWAYS did this in our dynasty years. People want to get on Castle, but my favorite player, Ginobili, did the same many times.
Biyombo needs to go. We would have been better 5 on 4. He hurt the team on every play. We can find some huge international player that can just stand there and do less damage.
Don't forget that Dylan Harper LED the COMEBACK 2 games in a row. He's the real deal. And we definitely missed Luke this game.
let him develop like parker.
How much better are the spurs going to be when fox gets back?
Barnes was off this night, and Wemby tired even if he put incredible stats line ! Was Barnes at his usual level, it would have been less difficult to win this game.
Cedric Maxwell…cmon man do better
Carter Bryant Still Not Score from Open Play 😢
I've seen people coping in the comments of other videos that "Well, blocks don't even matter that much because they don't even always result in a turnover."
Please, where was that attitude BEFORE Wemby started getting twice as many blocks as everyone else?
Thats PINOY STEP!
Great content!
Not sure if bro took one single breath that whole video
Spurs looking good.
Harper tied Vernon Maxwell Spurs rookie record of 20 pts., 8 assists in 1989, not Cedric Maxwell.
