Hi, it’s James Solowski for EA Sports. Welcome to the PEG. We’re in Winnipeg where the Jets are looking to soar in front of the home fans and we are about set to drop the puck on this one. The Blackhawks win the draw and they’ll start on the attack. The Jets gain control of it. Directed over to Connor and now he angles it across to Valardi. Chicago’s got the puck in their own end. Gains the zone from the right. Battling for along the boards. Moves it to Carter. Referee singles penalty coming up here with a delayed call. Delayed penalty. Goenders at the bench. They’ve got the extra attacker out there. There’s the whistle. And here’s the call. The guard’s getting two for interference here. His off to the box. When your opponent doesn’t have the puck, you can’t interfere with their forward progress too much. You can cheat a little bit, James, but that’s over the top. as they step into the faceoff circle. Let’s see if they can take advantage on this power play. Scoreless game right now, James, but an opportunity on the power play. They have to find a way to convert, move that puck quickly, and open up lanes. Pinned up along the boards. Can’t get a hold of that pass. And I love the way that he gets out there aggressively and makes sure that that shot does not get to the net. Still some precious time left on this power play as they get set to drop the puck. Dickson’s won the face off. trying to come up with a huge defensive play to get this puck out of his own hand off the post. Huge opportunity to go ahead in this game, James, but it hits the pipe and out. Now they’re chasing. Here we go. They’ve really ratcheted up the intensity here now in the Ozone. Oh, hell. A save like this, it’ll wake up your entire bench. I mean, this is a game changer, James. Talk about change the momentum of a game and a timely save. That’s one right there. Dickson’s recognizing they’re still short-handed here as they get ready for the faceoff. [Applause] Chicago’s won the faceoff deep in their own end and they get the puck out. The Dards now out of the box and we are back to even strength. A tremendous job by the PK units, James, to get out there and show hard work. This is exactly what it takes to kill a penalty. He does a great job of having sound positional play based on where the puck is on that low inner slot. and he makes himself big, takes away the holes and makes a save. What I love about this sequence of saves is knowing where the puck is and his awareness is outstanding. He finds it, he makes the save not once, not twice, multiple times. And they’ll go the other way with a great play by Donado. Winnipeg got the puck inside the defensive zone into the offensive man right off the middle. Denied by the goalender. That might be a save. Well, that is a save, James. I don’t think the goalender would have gone to position in time if he’s able to take it away to the net. Moves it to 15. Intercepted the pass. Winnipeg’s in on the offensive attack now. The Jets going to work on offense and a great save. Knight able to put that puck to the corner and it really keeps the puck out of harm’s way. You’re doing everything you possibly can to move and separate him from the puck, but his core strength and his balance is certainly the victor as he takes this one to the net. Takes the puck at the point and now it’s turned away. Sometimes when you have no time to think and make these types of saves, I mean there’s no hesitation here. Just simply reaction to be able to make it. That opportunity is rejected. Reads it perfectly. Breaking up the play. Here’s a great use of the stick right there to poke it away. tries to get the puck over to Blic. Dishes it to Barakovski and that’s stolen by Bernard. Oh, what a stop by. Oh, look out against the wall. Well, and this is done perfectly, James. No stop sign here. You know, he knocked it down on the numbers. A nice clean hit and everyone on the bench erupts with that one knowing that not only do they gain the puck, but a message sending hit along the wall. Wow, James. I mean, not everyone can elicit a thunderous hit like that. I mean, he just clobbered his opponent. Plenty of playing time left in this frame. We’ve still got zeros on the board. Cage won the draw and they’ll start off on the attack. Oh, what a stop. The Black Hawks will play from the defensive zone and that’s off a stick. Winnipeg’s got a hold of it along the wall. Perfetti’s got it against the boards. What a stop as he puts out the fire. The Blackhawks take it along the wing. Quick pass across contains cutting to the slot. Big time stop and we’ll get a reset after the puck goes up and out of play. Nice flash save has to give this team some momentum. I mean that’s a point blank chance that he’s able to take away. Just very aggressive and assertive in his crease. Officials getting ready to drop the puck to get playback underway. Winnipeg’s won the draw. Here’s a blast with the save. From the open ice, they gain the line and they come up with traffic and hits a stick. The Jets gain control of the puck. Winnipeg’s got it in their own zone with possession along the wall. [Music] Chicago’s got the puck in their own end into the offensive zone. Shakes off the defender with some nifty moves. Shuts him down. Reaction time is everything when you’re a goalender. And that’s why you see from a young age them working on all of those different drills to help them with these kinds of save. Just flash the leather and make the save. What a glove hand. That’s one way to win the draw as he skates away with the puck after the two centers were tied up. Dumps it into the ozone. Chicago’s got the puck along the wall. Passes it over to Moore. Moves the puck to Moresy. The Blackhawks take possession here in the open ice. Angles it over to a foul. right up the gut into the offensive end. Throws it in. The Jets scoop it up along the boards. Need a rider. Stick handling in his own zone. Sends it into the offensive zone. Slides the puck across to Slightly. And things starting to ramp up a little bit now on the ice with that play. Sent into the offensive zone. Works it across to Connor. He carries the puck up along the wing. Chicago’s got control of it now from their own end. The Jets gain possession. I’ll tell you what, James, that ain’t incidental contact. That was intentional. Certainly trying to really drive that body and separate the player from Puck here in the late going into the frame. We’re still scoreless. The Blackhawks get a hold of the puck in their own end through the middle of the ice into the attacking zone. Slides a diagonally into Tes. Second frame almost done. They say three is the magic number and here we are with period number three and we are underway here in period number three. Still no goals to this point and now he passes it to Dano on the left wing and into center. Gar’s been really quiet tonight, James. And typically in the booth we find a way to talk about him a lot and we have him tonight. But the good part is this game is still close and the best players they find a way to bring their best when it matters most. And the traffic neutralizes that scores a huge goal. The first of the game and the way things have gone defensively, this could be a huge one, Cheryl. Yeah, James, anytime you get the first goal of the game, no matter what time it’s at, it’s a huge one because you lead the scoring and now your opponent is chasing you. I love the way they were able to execute on this oddman rush. James really used the ice to their advantage, manipulating their opponent, the ice that they did have, and then they were able to capitalize when the shot came their way. Chicago’s been locked up in a dog fight all evening long, but look at this. They pushed through and found that go-ahead goal here in period number three. Well, I think they continue the scrappy dog fight. Don’t get in the mindset to sit back. If you sit back and you allow entry into your zone, guess what? You’re playing defense. Get on the hunt, get on the foul, stay on the puck, and you win this game. Connor stay in the line and on the attack. Chicago’s got the puck inside the defensive zone. Here’s an on man rush. Oh, they telegraph the pass and he picks it off into the attacking area from the left side. Chicago’s got the puck and that’s deflected. [Applause] Oh, great move to sideep the checks to the sweet spot. Gives some nothing in front. [Applause] Knights really had the pulse of his team this game, James. I mean, making some huge saves at the right time. And that’s what you need from your goalender to sort of weather the storm when they have to and make the timely save when they need to. You garner momentum from it. It’s uplifting and it provides energy. Lots of time left in this period. Chicago’s up one zip and sneaks in and grabs possession along the wing up the neutral zone. Quick pass to Carson. Denies him on the stop. Handles the puck. Moves it to right through center into the offensive zone. Slips a pass in front and he shuts down. A great scoring chance there. Still lots of time left in the period. One- nothing is where we sit at this point. puck is dropped and he wins the draw here in the defensive zone. Quick feed to Nazar and that’s just out of reach. Takes a shot. Oh, what a big time stop by Hill. And the puck stopper hangs on to get a breather here for the team. Found his rhythm here. James looking real nice in his crease. The way he’s moving, taking away a huge opportunity for his opponent with that high danger save. The Jets have played well tonight, creating all sorts of scoring chances, but they still trail here in the third. Chicago’s won it. Now they’ll go on the attack. And that’s knocked away in the defensive end by meter rider. Strokes up the pucker. He’s another way. Stop by the goalender getting a piece of that one. Oh wow. Another great stop. That’s a fantastic sequence of saves there. James was so dialed in. He tracked it perfectly. The Blackhawks have a hold of it in the defensive zone. Must the shot attempt. Grabs the puck here in the neutral zone. Chicago’s gain possession right off Main Street and on the attack. And he had an answer with that save. Kell Bucks made a great save and even better is the redirect to the corner. The Blackhawks gain possession along the wall. Fires it into the offensive zone. Winnipeg’s looking to break out of their own end. Moves the puck across to Justin. Here’s a triumph. Moves the pass in front. Great defensive heads up play to pick it off. Pop scooped up by Dickinson. Fires it. Stops and hold. Pushed on over to K. Puts it on net. Single stop by Knight. Passes on over to Blic. It’s a lowscoring affair out there and not for the lack of entertainment and high quality chances. Just both teams unable to finish when they get into the wheelhouse around the goalender. This can be extremely frustrating. nonetheless and just going to take a breath and find a way to finish. Here’s a short pass to Donado. Steps inside the line. An easy save by Hela. [Applause] Knights made an incredible save there. Not sure how he kept that out of the net. Just really athletic. I mean, you have to be acrobatic to be able to get to the top of your crease like that, but he read it perfectly to be able to make the save and keep it at bay. The Jets need to find a way to break on through here. They’ve had plenty of shots on net, but they’ve got to convert here in order to even things up. Chicago’s got it in the offensive zone. Big time stop. We got a whistle as the puck’s frozen. Well past the midway mark of this period. The Blackhawks lead it one- nothing. [Music] Caves has won the draw inside his own end. Return pass. Looking to make something happen along the boards. Puck grabbed by Bertusi. Moves it quickly over Veterinan. Takes the pass and tries to make a diagonal pass to Taz. There’s an Rejection of energy with that hit. Tries to feed it over to Bertusi. Takes a shot. He scores. A little TNT from Tavo Terrain. You know it’s a hard shot when the goalender gets a big piece of it, but it still trickles in. here in the late goings of the period. The Blackhawks have recently taken a twogoal lead. They’d love to build on it. and he takes the dish and uses the length of the stick to knock that puck away. Winnipeg’s got him along the wall. Quick pass to Samber on net. Oh, I thought he was going to be beaten and he somehow got a piece of that across the line down the left wall. Good shot. Stones him in front. Giving his team an opportunity to stay in the game. One save after another. He has been under siege. I mean, the save percentage says it all. They have to shore up their defense and stop chasing the game. Winnipeg’s offensive struggles have been the story tonight. Lots of chances, just not a lot of results. James takes a hit. He goes down to the ice, toss up the pop, picked up along the well by Ayalo. It over to the Chicago’s got possession of the puck. The Blackhawks cross the line and gain the zone. Takes it over and makes the save. Tosses it on to Nomest. [Applause] Less than 60 seconds left here in the final frame. Both teams are set. They’re ready to drop the puck. Ice catch your ice. Nomestic one off the face off. Dishes it off. Moves it to Dlo with the puck inside the defensive zone. Loses his balance on the play. Makes the save. [Applause] Such an impressive save. I love looking at this one again, James. You know that this goalender is dialed in so focused when they’re doing everything to get to the puck and keep their opponent at bay. A fascinating faceoff coming up here after the icing. There’s some tired defenders that are out there, Cheryl. Well, everyone’s tired, right? They couldn’t get off. They couldn’t get the change. So, now it’s about their opponent capitalizing in the offensive zone. And it starts right at the top. You want to make sure you can maintain that pressure and really keep them on their heels. Winnipeg’s got the puck along the boards. Delayed penalty coming up here and the puck stopper tags his man to get the extra attacker on the ice. Quick feed to Samberg. Whistle blow stopping the play for off to the send bin for crosschecking. I’m surprised that the officials didn’t put their whistles away in the dying seconds of this game, James. I mean, look at the scoreboard. It’s been over for a while. A critical face off looms here and the extra attacker is on the ice, James. So much pressure on the center to win this draw. [Applause] The Blackhawks win the draw. Chicago’s looking to break out. Winnipeg’s trying to make something happen on the offensive side. all along with an empty key. Scores it to the empty net and that should probably wrap this foot up. Yeah, it will. It’ll seal the deal, James. The insurance marker and a lot of fun as well. Goal scoring is fun. Doesn’t matter how it goes in even if it is an empty net. But you can see the body language on them. James, the dying moments of the game. And they’re able to get the empty net goal. Everyone can take a deep breath here as that should do it. Puff ready to drop here any moment to get things underway again. The Blackhawks win the face off. They’re going to keep things moving here. There’s the final horn. And here we go. Smiles and high fives all around as their Tandy picks up the shut out. And everybody’s happy tonight. Oh, you’re always happy when the light doesn’t go on in your end, James. And no sunburn for him because he kept it out. I mean, he was a monster out there. He challenged at the top of his grease.
