Are The San Francisco 49ers CURSED?!

Are the San Francisco 49ers cursed? I’ve been thinking it. You’ve been thinking it. Why is this happening to the Niners? How have they had all of this bad injury luck? We’re going to try to find some answers on today’s show. This is the San Francisco 49ers report. My name is Chase Senior and as always, no matter where you are, how you’re tuned in, thank you so much for making today’s show a part of your day. And let’s dive right in and let’s waste no time. There was this graphic that popped up during that broadcast on Sunday on Fox when the Niners were getting blasted by the Houston Texans. Pause. And it read like this. The San Francisco 49ers 2036 games missed due to injury since 2017 under head coach Kyle Shanahan. That’s when he was hired, 2017. That is the biggest mark and the most injuries across the entire National Football League. And you see that and you wonder, how is that possible? And it’s not like this is a one season issue or a two season issue. This is a multi-year problem which dates all the way back to the time when Kyle Shanahan was hired from being the Falcons offensive coordinator to becoming the Niners head coach to try to turn this organization around. And he’s been able to do that two Super Bowl appearances for NFC Championship games over the last six years. And we’ll see what happens here in 2025 as the Niners clearly retoled the roster during the off season. And we’re seeing some of the growing pains play out in real time right now. But look at this chart here. This is the Niners injury rate under Kyle Shanahan since he came to Santa Clara. In 2017, year one, Niners the 10th most injured team in football. In 2018, they become the fourth most injured team in the NFL. 2019, despite making it to the Super Bowl, sixth most injured team in the National Football League. In 2020, that year was a disaster. the number one most injured club across the league. In 2021, number three most injured, Niners still made it to the NFC Championship game. In 2022, the ninth most injured team among 32 squads still made it to the NFC Championship game. The lone season when the Niners were healthy, 2023, the 29th most injured team, so one of the healthiest teams in the league and made it to the Super Bowl should have won that game. in 2024, the number one most injured club in here in 2025. Well, yeah, we’ll get to those numbers here in just a moment. The 49ers logo has pretty much turned into this, a handicap logo because the team is hurt all the time. And we’re not just talking bumps and bruises. We’re talking about bumps and bruises, but also severe injuries. We’re talking about career altering ailments and injuries as well. And here this season, the 49ers already leading the NFL in injuries after last year. They’re the most injured team in the league. San Francisco leads the NFL with 14 players on injured reserve so far. According to Sumer Sports, 85 adjusted games have already been lost for this team this year. And in 2024, the adjusted games lost 180. We’re going into week nine. The Niners already at 85. They could overtake last year’s number. And you think about what has happened this year and the players who the Niners have lost. I’d said going into the year, I think the Niners can go 11 and 11 and six. I think that they can flip-flop that record from last year, make it to the playoffs, and be highly competitive here in 2025. What I also said, they can’t afford to have injuries to some of their star players, especially on defense with them playing so many young players who they drafted this year and last year. Nick Bosa torn ACL interest week three against the Arizona Cardinals out for the year. Fred Warner a couple of weeks ago in Tampa against the Buccaneers. Fractured ankle out for the season. Brock Pury week one suffers a turf toe injury. Comes back week four. We have not seen him since. George KD just made his debut two games ago against the Atlanta Falcons. Week one hamstring injury and missed a bunch of time. And these injuries have been different varieties, but there have been a lot of them that I think show concerning trends here. This is the Niners injury count since 2022 according to Sumer Sports. And obviously these numbers are fluid, but with knee injuries, 294 of them. Ankle injuries, 280. Hamstring injuries, 153. Shoulder injuries, 129. Calf injuries, 108. So we’re talking soft tissue, we’re talking ligaments, we’re really talking everything. And the major mystery here, why does this keep happening to the San Francisco 49ers? You think about all the other teams across professional sports, not just in the NFL. It seems like the Niners are the most injured club, the most snake bitten team in professional sports. This question here below that I just teased to you, we’re going to do a deep dive and try to find answers to that just around the corner. But I am very excited to welcome on a brand new sponsor here on the San Francisco 49ers Report, Harry’s. See their products for yourself at harrys.com/hat. And we have a phenomenal deal that we want to tell you about coming up here in just a moment. Did your old razor dull too fast? Did it irritate your neck? A lot of us men, we’ve dealt with these issues before, and it’s a pain in the butt. Did those razors cost way too much? $30 for eight refills? What a total scam. Well, I’ve started to shave with Har’s Plus. It’s changed my life as far as my face, how I’m feeling after I shave, but also my bank account. Harry’s Plus has an advanced pivoting system to reach every corner of your face. Refined blade tech for a closer, smoother shape, and a weighted metal handle. Please support our show and tell them that the 49ers report sent you. So to the biggest question of today’s program, right, why does this keep happening to the 49ers? There are a bunch of different factors and a bunch of potential reasons, right? The obvious place to start is with the Ner strength and conditioning staff. The 49ers do prefer dynamic warm-ups and not always static stretching and how they handle things in the weight room, on the practice field, pregame, postgame. That obviously could play into it as well. Then you think about Kyle Shanahan’s scheme and the workload, right? These injury problems, they did pre-exist prior to Shanahan, even going all the way back to the Harbaugh days. But in Kyle Shanahan’s scheme, he runs that zoneheavy offense, right? And that requires a lot of high-speed sprints and cuts that can lead to physicality which can lead to a lot of injuries in a contact sport, but also soft tissue stuff. I think there is something that people point to as well, right? The training and the preparation, loading exercises. Nowadays, with all this technology, a lot of teams and trainers are relying on GPS tracked drills that requires a lot of high-speed movements. How the Niners play, you love it, right? They are a tough, physical, brute force football team that wants to play downhill. They want to insert their dominance on the game by beating you up, playing bully ball. And obviously in a sport of attrition that can lead to wear down and a lot of injuries. I also think this is a good point that Tony Dunie brought up recently, right? In today’s NFL teams don’t go as hard in the summer because there are NFL rules for being able to tackle in practices. How long you can practice, how much you can practice. And so when the season comes around after these players are going a fraction of 100% all summer long, these players then go full go during the season without also not playing a lot in the preseason. That’s a modern movement and then they’re not ready. That leads to injuries. Some of this also plainly just comes down to bad luck. I think the Niners have had a lot of bad injury luck and that’s a big reason why this concerning trend has lingered and hovered over this organization like a dark cloud. I also want to get to this. There is a fascinating theory behind why the Niners continue to have all these injury problems. If you want to get holistic and you want to get nerdy, let’s dive right in. I put this tweet out on Twitter, chase senior. Why do the Niners suffer so many injuries? It’s a question nobody has an answer to. One theory that is interesting if you want to get nerdy and holistic is something that John Feliciano recently brought up. How players have joked around about there being an electrical substation that’s right next to the practice field and how that has led to the Ner’s injury problems. Now, if you are a believer in EMF, electrootive force being harmful, which has gotten a lot of attention as of late with wellness and nutrition and just overall healthy influencers, it’s a fascinating theory. There have been a lot of studies about how cell phones and Bluetooth technology, wireless earbuds, and all that, how they emit a lot of EMF and that it can be harmful to people and their health. Who knows? obviously put that tweet out working on this show and I wanted to pass that info along. So, I went on Google Maps and Google Earth because I’ve seen a photo of this electrical substation behind the Niners practice facility, but I wanted to show everybody what I’m talking about here. So, obviously you see Levi Stadium there and to the right of Levi Stadium, that is where the Niners practice. Literally neighboring the practice field, right next to it, right behind it, is that electrical substation. What the NerS could do, wear a bunch of EMF blockers to see if that helps. Again, it’s nerdy, it’s holistic, but at this point, you got to try to find solutions. Don’t forget to hit that subscribe button here on the show. Thanks to everybody for watching, and I’ll catch you tomorrow here on the 49ers Report.

  1. It is worth looking into what they do differently than other organizations. Is there anything they could be doing that they aren't in order to prevent injuries.

  2. Pulled muscles, I don't get it. Tirn ACL's, Shoulders and broken bones, I get it. Things happen, Fred's injury is bad luck, Skattabo, bad luck, but it happens. Pulled muscles should be a concern!

  3. No it's not the head coach it's the York family it goes back to Eddie Bartolo do you all remember why he had to sell the team to he's sister he was trying to buy a a business in new Orleans s9mething happen and they cursed that family.

  4. Chase sometimes you talk to much I like to listen to you ( but you come out with a lot B/S that football hey you should take a job as a head coach NFL because you no more then the head coach man please say as what you are ( a potcasters .

  5. Absolutely cursed. Levi Stadium and practice facility must be built on native burial grounds.
All the injuries started when the team left The Stick.

  6. I honestly believe that it has to do with the strength and conditioning coaches. The lack of getting the correct muscles and/or ligaments strengthened and conditioned, focusing on the wrong areas maybe? Way too much of a coincidence, Shanahan bringing on his choice of coaching staff that year, right?

  7. They get players who they know have past injuries and still get them. And all the other ones getting hurt is because of GREED. I can make a list of all the players that held out and got hurt

  8. Chat, I’ve always been a fan, but you’re content is starting to feel more like Clickbait. Good news, bad news, cryptic BS. Just put a title on what we can expect the video to be about.

  9. So, it looks like there is a neighborhood next to the substation too. Some research journalist should investigate the health of the people who live next to it. Or maybe Niners training should return to the heat of Rocklin.

  10. Deutoronomy 28:15 However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you
