Caleb Williams on reducing sack rate this season | Press Conference
After watching the tape from last week, as you move on to this week, how’d you characterize your game? Was it a good game for you? How how did you look at it? Yeah, I um I would say I made one one bad one bad play um in a in a situation where, you know, that’s that’s uh we couldn’t afford that in that moment uh with where we were in the game and that’s the that’s the interception. Um other than that, I I mean saw well um like I played well. obviously had uh a couple situations where you know I felt like I could have you know done a better job like the uh getting out of bounds and saving a timeout um you know to to help us in that situation. Um it’s always nice to have have those timeouts and and and have as many as you as you want um and can have um in those situations and then um you know the the the two the two um intentional groundings. Uh, one of them was third third down and we were going to punt regardless and we got a we got a a boomer of a of a punter. Um, so that wasn’t, you know, too too um hurtful, but the one before half um just find a way to, you know, get it in in the vicinity of of of Coloulston. Um and and if not us just being on the same page. Caleb, uh how do you think you how much better do you think you can get on some of the procedural stuff? procedural stuff like getting uh less time going by between plays when game is on when uh you’re in those tight spots, getting everybody making sure the other team at the end of the game. What do you end? I’m sorry. Like half clock situations a lot of time running off between plays uh at the end of both halfs in Baltimore. Also things like, you know, just being on top of everybody else every snap, making sure the other 10 guys are in the right spots. Yeah, that’s a that’s a part of it. Um that’s part of a part of this position is making sure everybody um either understands the situation and if they don’t providing the urgency um with my tempo, my energy, my all those different things um in those moments. Um if they aren’t understanding the situation um that’s that’s a part of of of my position and my job. Um and then and then from there um it’s just it’s just the reps. Um, I think we’ve I mean I think we’ve done a good job over the time um you know that that that we’ve had so far. I think you know last week was one of those weeks that weren’t. Um and so um you know you you uh you chalk it up to that and you find ways to um like I’ve like I’ve said, man, you you find solutions. Um and that’s that’s where we’re at. We’re we’re we’re in a great spot as a team. Um, I know we lost his last game and we were in positions to, uh, win or, you know, you know, score touchdowns to get ahead early and things like that and that didn’t happen. Um, and so we, like I said, we find solutions and we’re in a great spot as a team, um, as a locker room, coaching staff, we all, you know, we still have that that that belief, that known factor, um, of of us going out there and winning these games. The interception, you’d said after the game, bad throw, I think, right? Am I characterizing your thoughts correctly? Ben said bad read. Yep. Uh, where are you at on that Wednesday? Yeah. Uh being able to go back and watch it at that time obviously uh right after the game. Uh you I didn’t get a chance to look over in the film. Uh there was I think it was Cal uh was opening the flat and um I think it’s just I think that was a good rep for me to bank. Uh just being able to you know kind of see ahead of you know where I was you know throwing and um didn’t see the corner fall off. I thought he was trailing uh DJ I believe. Um I thought he was trailing DJ. Um, and I thought I’d just threw a bad ball, but the corner was there. I feel that I could still fit it in there. But in that situation, just understanding, go get go get, you know, Cal the ball as fast as possible and then, you know, let him go make a, you know, make a make a a great play for us 10, you know, maybe plus yards. You’ve taken a lot fewer sacks this year, you know, 12 and seven games and not going to ask you to compare the line from this year to last year, but what have you done personally to reduce that number? How big of a focus was that for you? Yeah, it’s extreme focus. cuz I mean I don’t I don’t want to be one of those guys in year six where I’m one of the highest sacked ever in history and things like that. So, uh it’s it’s just I got I got a you know a great group in front of me uh running backs and tight ends and all of that. They obviously help out in in different situations to uh block DNS, block linebackers, block blitzes and things like that. And then I think it’s just us all being on the same uh same page. And um I think that’s part of it. And then the other part is uh from my side is just just being more comfortable and confident within the offense, being uh you know more comfortable um with being able to deliver um you know good ball and and you know you know the guys snapping the eyes around knowing where the guys are going to be and I think that’s something that’s going to keep growing uh throughout my career and um just just finding ways to you know not have sacks uh especially on first and second down is is is really important to you know in the NFL to keep drives alive and I think um that’s something that I went back and looked at something, you you know, it’s been on my conscious mind after taking 60ome sacks last year. And so, um, you know, I think, um, I think I think we got to keep going. I think we got to, uh, find ways, um, you know, when they do send these blitzes and things like that to, you know, exploit these teams. But I think we’ve done a good job, you know, keeping me off the ground. How much do you know about Sorry, Caleb. What do you need to get more out of? Yeah. Uh, it just comes down to execution. um as a as a run game, um as a pass game. Um and it comes down to details. Um run game, staying on landmarks, hitting the holes, and you know, finding those even if it’s not a, you know, gaping hole, getting those, you know, those dirty, you know, four yards, three yards, um because that goes a long way. And then pass game is just just being the same, you know, same page. And then um like the one the one sack that I had down there um you know in the beginning of the game it’s um just being able to uh either dirt it or or or find the back right there peaked um you know didn’t see him and we you know were on the same page in that situation. Didn’t see him and um you know felt 45 you know and I tried to you know go make a play for us but uh just being in those situations uh finding checkdowns being the same page being detail finding execution. I’m sorry use my legs. Yeah. Yeah. That’s a that’s a conscious thing that I have to you know keep keep harping on for myself is um you know using my legs obviously had that that big run um you know before half and so um just knowing how how effective you know using my legs is and uh being able to run and hurt a defense is is something that you know I’m more conscious of and uh trying to be more conscious of to to be able to help this team. You mentioned the locker room’s in a good place. How much do you know about CJ as Yeah. here and how you think he might fit in with the group you have? Yeah, I’m I’m excited. um just the energy, you know, that I’ve seen from him. Uh obviously over time of him being in the league, I think, you know, he has he has a lot of lot of great ball um when he’s on the field and um yeah, I think uh you know, just just being around him today, uh the energy, the effort, um that that I saw when he was out there, he made a made a good play, um out there today. And uh just being able to be around him, uh being able to, you know, have everybody, you know, put you know, open open arms and things like that. and uh we figure out who he is and you know where he should be and how he fits into us and um I I think that’s where we’re going to be at and I’m excited to have him. Ben said he didn’t like the call on the quarterback sneak at the end of the game and I know there was the Detroit game earlier in the year, those backto-back ones you guys didn’t convert on. How was that being emphasized to be able to convert on those going forward? Uh it was it was more or less the situation. Um I think is why he didn’t like the call just understanding I believe we didn’t have any timeouts at that point. So it’s I yeah we didn’t have any timeouts so the clock was just going to keep running and so um probably want to pass in that situation just I think that’s what he was getting at is is you know if it’s incomplete or anything like that the the clock was stop and and and not having a you know a big old pile with a bunch of people and you know having having you know taken precious time uh because the most important thing in in those situations is time and um and and so it’s uh I think that’s what he what he meant by that and when we spoke about it um in in that situation on penalties. Uh Ben put it on veterans and leaders in the locker room to take care of that issue. What does that look like in your eyes behind the closed doors to make sure everyone’s aligned on that same page? Yeah, I think it’s I mean I think it’s us just us just focusing um and not having you know the the the brain farts and things like that. Um me emphasizing in the huddle, us making sure that uh when we break the huddle, everybody’s on the same page and then and then everybody just being confident in themsel and understanding that, you know, we know the play, we know what we need to do, we need to go execute and so just sit in there and, you know, when when the when the when the cadence is whatever, you know, whenever the cadence is whatever it is, uh when the ball’s going to be snapped, we’re firing off at the same page. And so, um it it is up to us as players. Um, like I’ve said, the the best teams um are are the player le teams. And so, um, that’s something that we need to focus on. Something we need to fix as a team is these penalties. Um, because they’re they’re happening in in critical moments and critical downs for us. And, um, I think that’s something that, you know, affects us negatively. Um, obviously. And so, uh, we got to fix that. Uh, we got to find a way to fix it. Um, and that that starts with us as players. Caleb DJ, two more. Just like just out of curiosity, have you noticed at all what Drake May’s been doing in New England weeks? Yeah, fans out. Yeah, he’s been playing uh he’s been playing well. Uh been able to the the the the times that I’ve been able to watch them uh play uh whether it’s um uh just me sitting at home and watching them and things like that. Uh he’s been playing on time. uh you know, he believes in his guys and and um you know, they’re they’re playing efficient football, running the ball well, uh passing the ball well, and um you know, that that that that’s that’s a good you know, combo to have. Um and then uh you know, having him go out there and, you know, make make explosive plays, scramble plays, and things like that. Um you know, kudos to him and them over there. You complimented your draft class before that. Yeah, we got a we got game, you know, how do you is it human nature to compare? No, I uh I uh I don’t compare. Um it’s just different situations um and and uh different different coaches and different years, different different development. We’re different players, different plan styles and um all the different things. So you you start trying to compare stats and stuff and you lose sight of, you know, where you’re at and what you’re focused on and what you need to focus on and uh what you need to grow at. Um and so uh happy for all the guys in the draft class. Um but no, no, no comparison. Awesome. The Bears. Z first.

In my opinion, Caleb should get better scoring in the red zone. He does a great job handing the ball to his RBs to get touchdowns but he should get better scoring passing TDS in the red zone. Overall Caleb Williams is my QB1 no matter what.
best QB in bears history
Iโm glad we have a mature QB in our locker room. This Chicago Media has zero shot of a headliner from him
terrible questions from the last two "reporters". these ppl always looking for a headline
I wander if caleb watches his press conferences and sees what we all say down here in the comments . But anyways its gona be fun watching him grow as a Bear and evolve in this system . Happy for him . Lets get ready for this week . Go Bears !
Stopped the video at " I made 1 bad play".. I don t even wanna hear the rest lol
๐ป Let's go!!
Maybe he should cry in the closet ๐ค๐ค๐ค
who's the asshole that wasted time asking Drake Maye question- revoke his pass
2 intentional groundings and game ending interception … this aint working im soorry i want to be positive but jesus…
caleb is great with leadership and handling the media but needs to figure out being a pro in the nfl
PLEASE SHUT THE HATERS UP THIS SUNDAY CALEB ๐ปโฌ๏ธ
How did you play well with not even having 200 yd passing
I can't wait till something happened to you and we put in Tyson because you do not represent Chicago well and you do not play like a killer
Comparison is the thief of joy.
We want Tyson not geechie man
Just one bad play?
You are really playing like a piece of shit dude ๐ข
Oh crap! One bad play…he's delusional.
Scary that he thinks he only had one bad play. He stunk. Lots needs to be cleaned up.
If anything id say he has an extended rookie year considering how bad the team and coaching was last year
Drake Maye question was an indirect shot at Caleb. As if to say, "He's is playing well, why aren't you." Otherwise what is Drake Maye concern to Caleb? Caleb is not playing him. Drake is not in Caleb's division. SMH
He added 1 to the 5 years Justin Fields has been in the league
He is so trash played a good game no TDs 1 int 2 messed up plays costing us points and downs then he says 3rd down we were going to punt anyways really its 3rd down you already gave up in the drive he is no leader or a generational talent he proves he can't read the defense he's a bust.
FINISH DRIVES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
DJ Moore is a good guy share the ball with DJ. The Bears have a decent receiver and tight end group share the ball with all of the guys. DJ fights for yards after the catch so, share the ball with him. Rome is good. All of the Bears receivers and tight ends are good. Distribute the ball. Bear Down! Let's go.
Fuck it last game had me mad but im over it now we ridimg wit u caleb . Just kno u can be the king of this city if u win us a throphy
Caleb handled the questions well. Iโm really rooting for him!
I've been quite critical of Caleb, but it's obvious that his timing & short game ball placement has improved the last 2 weeks. He's made a few bad decisions and that's frustrating, but that's how you learn. As long as he keeps working and improving, he'll be solid.
Keep in mind, a lot of the basics of being an NFL QB he had to learn in '25 [footwork and short game accuracy]. Rodgers and Josh Allen had their footwork reworked in the NFL, so there's a good chance Caleb will be well above average, with good coaching. We have good coaching, so try and be patient, my friends.
Iโm a fan of you Caleb throw the TD in the redzone bro thatโs all keep going play ๐ young man! Go๐ป!
" I would say I made one bad play" – Caleb Williams. LOL buddy come on now you havent thrown a td in 3 weeks. It's more than one play.
1 bad play ๐๐๐ wow. The bears really messed up with this draft pick. Next season please let Ben hand pick his guy.
Just because maye is on fire now doesnโt mean he will end up being better. Last year it was all Jayden. Guys pick things up at different paces. They also sustain things at different periods, just like stroud. Caleb will be a star.
Whos using the typewriter in the background?
Let's face it Bears fan dude just doesn't have it to be a franchise quarterback. So we drafted the wrong quarterback again smh.
