Roger McCreary On Getting Traded To The Rams, Adjusting To LA & Quentin Lake’s Leadership

this way. Thank you. What have the last couple days been like for you? It’s been crazy. I mean, I just got here Monday. My second time in LA. I feel like a lot of stuff happening fast and I’m just here just living the moment. I’m excited for it. What was kind of your reaction when you got the news on Monday? I mean, I kind of already knew um that I heard about a possible trade coming. So, I mean, I wasn’t completely shocked. I just didn’t know where. I mean at the time like finally happening. I mean it was there at that moment and just accept it. Really excited about it. You know I’m in a great place with a great team. First impressions of of this team and and kind of a culture here. Yeah. First impression. I mean I got that insight when we played against them. You know just from how they play. They play tough guys. You know they were having fun you know beating us and stuff. So I see it in person now. You know still having fun. Guys jokes you know time to get serious. You can tell that they trust and have fun with each other and I already come from com comfortable with them already and just excited to see how I go from here on out. What are the steps that you take to make your transition so smooth in terms of it being such a fast turnaround? Yeah, I mean transitioning I feel like I just live in the morning just try to get better day by day. Don’t try to do too much. Don’t try to learn too much. And I mean I talked to the coaches they said they’re not going to put a lot on me. They’re going to take it easy. So, it’s just me just learning the team, learning their play style, learning um what they looking for me and all that stuff. So, I just go day by day just try to get better. What do you think you bring specifically to the secondary? Yeah, I mean I feel like I can play inside, outside, and you know, they said that need me in those spots. So, basically, they have g me like the main role where I’m be at, but I know that um they want me to help right away. So, I feel like that’s my mindset just improve and learn and just be where my feet are in whatever position I want to play. I’m here and I’m looking to play it. You played outside more earlier in your career inside a lot now. Do you feel like there’s still kind of more you can achieve or prove as an outside corner that maybe you could get back to? Yeah. Um I mean it’s been a while, you know, since my first two years I play outside, but I don’t feel like I say I need to achieve something. I feel like it’s just me getting back in that mode of knowing how people attack me playing outside versus inside. So it just it just know lost memories just coming back to me getting back comfortable out there. But I know it’s not going to be hard. I just got to get back to it. When was your first time in LA? First time in LA. It was January. Yeah. So, still getting used to it. Traffic is crazy. You know, first day it is hot. It’s cold in Asheville. So, getting used to it. Little sweat now. It’s so hot. But, I mean, December that going to be the shocker, you know, Christmas. I’m ready to get cold in Christmas. So, that going to be something different for me in December. How do you approach the situation when you’re, you know, last year of your contract and you’re changing teams and just trying to get settled while still also kind of looking towards your future? Yeah, I mean future wise, I feel like I just leave in God hands. I mean, everything’s out of my control. As for me, I feel I just got to play and just be the player that I am and then all the rest is going to take care of itself, you know, leave in God hands. So, I’m a firm believer in that and just have faith no matter what. The rest going to play by itself. How’s that going from a team that was str is struggling to a team that’s pretty regarded as a playoff maybe Super Bowl contender? Excited. Thought about that. You know, I mean, it was some ups and downs. I mean, always love in Tennessee, you know, that’s what they drafted me. So, I was always happy to be there no matter what. You know, just in a bad situation, but coming up to it, mind flipped. Happy happy to be here. You know, just to see how these guys play practice, you can tell why they are the record that play how they play. test seeing to see how they at. I respect I respect that a lot and I’m just willing to learn off them just be off their energy. Did you know any of the DBs here before you got here? Um personally I haven’t like knowing them but I know like knew of them you know um I knew um Kobe you know guys um I knew E, you know Mississippi SEC. So I knew that guy right there and them really the main two I would say I knew like just from watching football and just hearing about them. As you’ve been here have you started looking into them? I mean, have you got an appreciation for Quinton Lake has a really unique role and he’s the one that Sean mentioned will sort of move around a little bit with you here? Have you gotten to talk with him or have a sense for kind of what it’d be like to play with a guy like that? Yeah, I mean, you know, I can tell just from the meeting room, you know, that’s that’s a leader right there. That’s a guy I see that they really have a lot of faith in know to lead that back end. I can I see him making plays, you know, just from watching outside in, you know, watching film and everything. And seeing on the field, see how he play, you can just tell he was he’s the leader. Like that’s the guy I feel like I’m going to learn a lot from and I’m happy about that to be my teammate. Also, Coach Pleasant coached you at the Senior Bowl. Um what what do you remember from that experience? What stood out? And what’s it like getting the chance to work with him again? Yeah, his personality first start, you know, I forgot when we came up here, I like, oh yeah, he’s up here senior bowl. He got the same energy, the same personality, funny, goofy. So, I feel like he made it comfortable right away. It felt like home. You know, that relationship with me and him. I feel like this is just the beginning right here. I feel like I can learn a lot from him. So, I’m happy about that. Thanks very much.
