Once again, he always call it like it is đź’Ż

  1. They’re two star players at the most important position. That’s why it gets hyped up.

  2. Mahomes greatest rival is Brady and Jordan.

He’s cleared everyone on the league by a mile it’ll take some catching up for anyone to be his “rival” as of now

  3. Lol it’s the best the haters have. They so desperately want the Chiefs to go down that all their hopes are riding on a team who has never won a superbowl.

  4. I mean they’re both top of the AFC every year and play each other in the post season… why not call them rivals?

They beat us in the regular season and we beat them in the post season.

  5. I think qb vs qb rivalries are dumb in general. It’s a team game. Although qb is the most important position they never actively compete against eachother on the field.

  6. I didn’t read all that bullshit, but I just wanted to say that the need that some people have to create stupid and pointless rivalries between players can go away completely for all I care.

  7. Sorry, but Matt’s post is ridiculous. This is a rivalry. And it is this generation’s Brady vs. Manning. The career stats don’t make a rivalry.

  8. Mahomes doesn’t have “rivals.” He’s more like Batman with a rotating rogues gallery.

  9. Matt Verderame despite being in his late-30s or early-40s sounds like such a boomer. I sorta like him, but I also can’t help but roll my eyes at him at times as well.

  10. He’s parroting what Nick Wright said yesterday on FTF. They push each other to great games, but it’s hard to call it a rivalry when Mahomes owns Allen in all major statistical and playoff success categories.

  11. Neither QB has really shit the bed in any Mahomes-Allen matchup, regular season or otherwise. Both QBs have been the league’s best at multiple different times in their career and always seem to elevate their game when they meet up. They’ve played several all-time classics with incredibly memorable and cinematic moments, there has been off-field tension and off-field camaraderie and respect between the two. It maybe doesn’t have the balance of results that Brady/Manning had to this point, but Josh has won multiple games at Arrowhead and Pat has won multiple games in Buffalo. IMO it’s silly for Verderame to go out of his way to piss on the best QB rivalry we’ve seen since Brady/Manning just because KC has come out on top when it matters.

I barely even think about Joe Burrow anymore after 3 years of them floundering with injuries, slow starts and terrible defenses.

  12. Bills gotta hold up their end of the bargain for this to be a serious rivalry. Josh has the talent and to his credit has won most of the regular season games. Which might mean something if he wasn’t 0-4 in the playoffs against us

  13. We can’t do our sacrificial seasonal loss this year. To win during the playoffs. I hate it but I can see the loss to the Jags coming back to bite us in the ass.

  14. I’d say calling this Mahomes 3rd MVP “likely” is a bit of a stretch. He’s got some competition, and the Chiefs record is gonna be difficult for his case unless they win out the rest of the year which is unlikely.

  15. To be fair to Josh Allen, he’s a better postseason Quarterback than Peyton Manning ever was.

  16. Bro stop comparing Mahomes to curry damn. He’s over him, Mahomes never had to team up with somebody colder then him to win

  17. The real rivalry is between the dream people wish they were having vs the nightmare that they can’t wake up from. May they never wake up.

  18. Be nice to the poor bills fans, let them hype up this game this is the closest they will get to a super bowl champion.

  19. Allen is better than Burrow because he doesn’t get hurt and he is much more mobile. Burrow had a lot of offensive fire power in the 1st SB appearance.

Problem with Allen and Bills is they can’t seem to match the coaching and offensive players that Chiefs has, and always come up short one way or the other.

It could be a real rivalry, if say Allen was playing for 49ers of the last 2-3 years (minus all the injuries) or even the Rams.

  20. He isn’t calling it like it is, he’s generating engagement. When people consider how entertaining a game will nobody cares about mvps or rings. KC v BUF is entertaining every time. You have great high level QB play every time. Wins are not a QB stat. Let’s not act like we don’t think KC would have a ring if Patty and JA switched places. Reid v MCD is the real mismatch

  21. Eh I guess but let’s be real it’s the biggest game of the year every year. I guess you could quibble with the definition of the word “rival” but Josh is clearly the 2nd best QB in the league and plays us tough every time. Idk I just respect Allen a lot more than to be shitty like this. That being said Joshy you’re 0-4 when it matters against us hold that biiiiiiiitch. Excited for Sunday.

  22. Glad to see Burrow mentioned in this rant. The disrespect that man gets because his OL and defense are shitty every year is crazy. When he gets hurt it’s like people forget he exists while being literally the only active QB to ever get past Mahomes in the AFC playoffs like Verderame said. I don’t mean to parrot his take but rather just emphasize this fact. Seeing Burrow in the playoffs had me 1000x more nervous that seeing Allen.

  23. Did Verderame steal this from Nick Wright or did Nick steal this from him? Nick was saying this yesterday on first Things first. I’m guessing Nick.

  24. It’s still probably the best QB matchup of the year when these guys face off, though. Brady/Manning isn’t a great comp, because Manning was just objectively always the better quarterback statistically and via eye test, but Brady always had a better team around him.

Mahomes is basically Brady AND Manning in this analogy. Better team, better stats, better at winning.

  25. Kind of unkind to Josh.

Brady had 3 Super Bowls before Manning won his first.

It took manning 9 years to win his first Super Bowl. This is Allen’s 8th year.

Peyton was 0-2 vs Brady when he won his first Super Bowl.

If Peyton didn’t lose in the Wildcard or Divisional most years maybe he would have lost even more games to Tommy.

  26. I like Verderamme a lot, but he’s splitting hairs here.

Out of all the QBs we play, Allen is the closest to Mahomes.

Verderamme also failed to mention the regular season record.

    * **Regular Season:** Allen leads 4-1
    * **Playoffs:** Mahomes leads 4-0
    * **Overall:** Tied 5-4

  27. The only rivals that Mahomes has are Tom Brady & Michael Jordan

Any comparison to Josh Allen is purely media hype to self promote their own upcoming broadcast

  28. eh, while I think it’s fair to say Mahomes doesn’t have an *equal*, I think Allen is Mahomes’ greatest rival still playing, and he’s never going to get to play brady again. yes, technically Burrow is the only one to beat mahomes in the playoffs, but Allen played better in most of the losses than burrow did in that win. Allen puts up insanely good fights, with games that become instant classics. And awarding Mahomes the 3rd mvp already feels premature, It’s week 9. At least wait until Mahomes crushes the cowboys.

  29. And yet they will still beat is in the regular season, and we will beat them post-season, as is tradition.

  30. I get the sentiment but even though the win/loss playoff record is super one sided, its still one of the most anticipated and fun games year over year. It doesnt need to be exactly Brady vs Manning to be one of the best current rivalries in the NFL.

  31. They’re 4-4 overall. It’s even similar with Brady having multiple super bowls before Peyton got one.

  32. As much as we may hate the Bungholes, that game was a real rivalry. Both teams felt like they genuinely hated each other. It’s to the point I’m actually pissed at Cincinnatis organization for wasting the talent they have to such a degree. I want them to be our rival. I’ve never felt this way with Buffalo.

  33. Bills fan here with a sanity check.

Its not a rivalry because Mahomes has no rivals. Burrow beat him in the playoffs, once, and the folks who actually watched that game know that the Bengals defense forced Mahomes into his worst ever non SB postseason game.

The only reason it gets talked about is because we’ve been able to beat you guys more than anyone else in the regular season. And you all know how much use that has been for us in the playoffs.

The media loves to hype it up because champions are often defined by their competition. If the plucky ole Bills actually manage to win one (ain’t happening in my lifetime), it creates even more drama.

The media wants more drama between the best QB of the generation and potential new GOAT in Mahomes, and Allen who I’d hope most of us agree is a firm #2.

  34. Ehhh….the reality is that this is probably the closest thing to a rivalry in the league *right now*.

If the standard is Brady – Manning, then you probably aren’t going to get many rivalries that can meet, or even come close to, that level of hype.

The standards have been lowered because there aren’t many established quarterbacks that have been on a consistently good team.

So, while I agree this is no where close to Brady – Manning, this is the unfortunate reality of the current NFL landscape, this is literally the closest thing, if not the only thing, the NFL can even call a player v player rivalry at this point.

  35. Disagree with this. Can only make such claims one their careers are over is at least much deeper into them. The narrative could easily flip over the next 5 years.

  36. Not a bad take but Allen as a future HOF QB right now is a bad take.

Future HOF? Likely. Certain? Far from it. But Mahomes is in if he retires tomorrow, can’t say the same for Josh Allen.

  37. He’s literally just regurgitating the same thing Nick Wright said on FTF Tuesday, even down to the Jordan/Ewing thing. That was the exact thing they ended the segment with.
