New ABS System Should Help Yankees, With One Exception

  1. Is the one exception Jazz blowing through all the team’s challenges in his first at bat?

  2. Pitch framing will absolutely still matter. You only get 2 challenges per game and lose them if your challenge fails. Yes, it will matter less, but during testing, only 3.9 challenges per game were used.

  3. The ABS system will be especially helpful for Judge because his height makes it difficult for umps to call balls on low pitches that would be strikes to anyone else. Although they haven’t been quite as bad with that as they were early in his career.

  4. My guess is it will only be a couple of tears before full time ABS is adopted. Which will be good. Get rid of framing as it is really just an attempt to fool the umpire, i.e., cheat.

  5. This is overstated and will have almost no impact on Wells because each team has only two challenges per game.

Many hitters, like Jazz, will not be allowed to use it.

Catchers will also use it for their pitchers.

Teams will probably wait until later in the game when they have runners on.

  6. Considering you can only challenge so many pitches a game, idk see how this will impact framing. Full on robo umps is the only thing which will kill framing.
