MAJOR Saints REPORT From NFL Insider On TRADING Rashid Shaheed & Cesar Ruiz
[Music] We got major reports coming from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler around the New Orleans Saints making some trades ahead of the November 4th deadline. You’re watching Saints Now by chat sports as always. I’m your host Trisy Trace Gerard. The trade deadline is less than a week away. So, let’s waste no time and dive straight into the trade updates from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Here is what he had to say. Some crazy names, some crazy ideas coming at you here. New Orleans has tradable assets from wide receivers Chris Olive, Rasheed Shahed to corner Alante Taylor, and linebacker Pete Wernern. The sense is that the Saints will at least listen to offers on certain players. Teams I’ve spoken to are under the impression that guard Caesar Ruiz might be available at the right price. Change feels inevitable for the Saints this off seasonason regardless with defensive staples such as Deario Davis and Cam Jordan both turning 37 next year and Alvin Chimera turning 31. So coming up, we’re going to break down these major reports and give you my opinions on what’s going to happen on each of these players. But I want to encourage you to subscribe to the channel because anytime there’s news, anytime there’s updates, we’re here to provide that for you. And if there’s news, if there’s injury updates, if there’s notable trade buzz, we got you covered. We go live multiple times a week. We will be live Tuesday for the trade deadline, breaking down any and all moves that happen. So, make sure you join the noty gang, hit the noty bell, that way you don’t miss a thing. And over 51,000 Saints fans trust us to give them their daily Saints content. So, join the Golden Gang and the sub the sub button for free. Now, let’s dive into uh Chris Olive. Obviously, we know that the New Orleans Saints have been working on an extension with number 12. That’s something that we’ve known for quite some time now. And it seems like there’s a lot of confidence shared between the Saints and Chris Olive that a deal will get done. It’s not like they have to sprint to get this deal done because New Orleans did pick up his fifth year option in the offseason. So, they don’t need to force a trade. They don’t need to force an extension, but they do have the ability to lock him down for the foreseeable future. And that’s something that un barring any changes that should be happening. The expectation is that he will stay New Orleans. He will get a long-term extension at some point. Now, Olive, in my opinion, he’s starting to stack some good games. You go back to the last three, 259 yards, he had two touchdowns against the Bears, back-to-back games with 98 yards. He’s starting to put together some good tape and he’s in my opinion starting to shake the drops. He’s starting to be a little bit more of a reliable weapon once again. And I do think that he’s a player that the New Orleans Saints should be comfortable with investing in in the long term. There is a little bit of a conversation to have because of the injury history and because of the price tag. Now, if he’s willing to take a hometown discount, that would be absolutely awesome. I know he loves it in New Orleans, but I do think having a really talented wide receiver is important for the Saints offense as Tyler Shut continue or starts to take over and it’s now his offense with Kell Moore. Now, Rasheed Shahed is another player that has been the center of a lot of trade buzz. League sources believe that he could be dealt for the right price. And the asking price according to reports from Adam Shfter are that the New Orleans Saints would like a third round pick in return for Rasheed Shahed services. And if you do extend Chris Olive, in my opinion, that makes Rasheed Shahed expendable because you have to decide which one of these guys are you going to pay. There is a world where you can pay both of them. But I think in you consider everything it might make sense to deal Rashid. Although I don’t particularly want to. We’re going to talk more about Rasheed Shahed and the trade front here in just one second. But guys, I’m super excited to tell y’all about today’s new sponsor, and that is Bubs Naturals. All right, let’s talk more about Rasheed Shahed. Again, he’s the center of a lot of trade rumors and he’s a player that in my opinion is likely going to be dealt. It just feels like it’s something that could happen. Zachary Smith, a guy who covers the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said that despite the addition of Marquez Valdez Scantling, the Steelers are still looking to add to the wide receiver room. I talked to Steelers Talk host Jack Sperry, my homie here at the office. He said that he would prefer Jacobe Myers because he thinks he could fill that need a little bit better, but he would love to see Rashid Shahed in Pittsburgh. And I think that when you consider trading Rashid Shahid, there’s a few reasons why you should and why you should not. I’ll start with the why you should. He’s 27 years old. He’s in the final year of his contract. He has not had a major head injury history, but there has been injuries there. And you know, everybody in the NFL gets hurt at some point. It be like that. But you know, there is a conversation because you could also turn an undrafted free agent into potentially a third round pick. Like that’s pretty nice if you ask me. But why you wouldn’t do this? One, the vibes. Like I just personally wouldn’t. He’s my sweet prince. That’s my pooky bear. I don’t want to trade him away. Two, he’s extremely explosive. He is without a question, in my opinion, the most explosive player on this offense. And the New Orleans Saints struggle to create explosive plays. and they’re a team that struggles to finish drives and I don’t think that they are really un or really comfortable in Kell Moore’s offense totally yet. I think it’s still something that’s growing. I think it’s still something that’s evolving. As you get in Kell Moore’s guys and get rid of Shawn Peyton and Dennis Allen’s guys, I think that you will see the offense evolve, but it is hard to pay both Olive and Shahed because they both deserve to ask for considerable money. And look, I I think that a wide receiver trade at this point just feels inevitable. Um, unless Rasheed Shahed and Chris Olive are both willing to take hometown discounts, it feels like one of those guys will be traded. And I’m not going to write that possibility off because we have seen both of these players express their love for playing in New Orleans. They like being in the city. They like being a part of the black and gold. They love the Hudat Nation. But I do think that you have to consider trading one of these players. Considering where the New Orleans Saints are at and the fact that they are rebuilding, the fact that they have to build for the future, the fact that they have to look ahead, you got to consider it. Worth noting though, Olivia and Shahed are represented by the same people. So maybe, just maybe, we can make something work. Now, who will trade for Rasheed Shahid? I think there’s a lot of teams out there that would be interested. The Steelers come to mind. The Broncos come to mind. Bills come to mind. I mean, I could see a lot of teams being interested. Hell, the Patriots maybe. I mean, I know that Drake May could use a deep threat. I think that him throwing the ball to Rasheed Shahid would be really fun. But what do you guys think? Let me know who will trade for Rasheed Shaheen. If you don’t think he gets traded, feel free to sound off as well. Now, Caesar Ruiz popped up and that was a name that I know y’all’s ears perked up like a dog seeing a freshly cooked steak. I will tell you right now when it comes to trading Caesar Ruiz, the I’m going to be a fan and tweet this out in me says take it. I’ll give you a seventh round pick. I’ll give you a fifth round pick to take Caesar Ruiz. Realistically though, it’s one of those things you have to consider like is it smart? You could trade him for the right price. If you’re able to move some of the money around and figure out some of that cap space, you would need to get creative. But that’s not something that the New Orleans Saints have ever struggled with before. He signed a four-year $44 million extension. Like look, he had one stretch of a good season and the Saints were like, “Yeah, let’s throw him a bunch of money at the guard position.” He is making way, way, way too much money to be playing what I would consider, quite frankly, shitty football. He just hasn’t been good. Penalties, he’s unreliable. He’s not consistent. Sure, you’ll get a couple plays here and there where he’s doing something awesome, but like Caesar Ruiz and the story around him has not been good. And quite frankly, the New Orleans Saints need to upgrade at the guard position this off season because Trevor Penning and Caesar Ruiz are just simply not getting it done. And I personally would not be upset whatsoever if we traded away Caesar Ruiz. You get back a fourth round pick, you get a fifth round pick, hell yeah, I’m all in on that. That would be absolutely great. In terms of the replacements, I mean, you have the guys on the roster. It’s not like you need to go and trade for somebody back. It’s not like you need to do a ton of stuff. Dylan Raidens or Torsilli Simpkins can both take over. Raidens was a free agency acquisition in the offseason. Torselli Simpkins was an undrafted free agent signed out of South Carolina. For what it’s worth, Raidens, he’s the more tenured player, the more experienced player. So, I am inclined to believe that New Orleans would plug him in at the right guard position considering he also has most of his career snaps over a thousand at the right guard spot. Whereas Torisilli Simpkins, he was solid in the preseason. I don’t think he was necessarily great in the regular season. Um he was worse at the left guard position than the right guard spot. So maybe he could be able to fill in there. But I do think when it comes to trading Caesar Ruiz, I’m in for it. I would be okay with it. I would actually be happy with it and just let Dylan Raidens take over at the right guard spot with Caesar or with uh Torres Simpkins being a backup that can play on either side if Penning or Raidens goes down. Now, a couple other names that were mentioned, Alvin Kamar, Mario Davis, Cameron Jordan. I don’t think that they’re getting traded. We also talked about Alante Taylor and Pete Wernern. Uh Jeremy Fowler mentioned them. I do think that they are players that could potentially be dealt. We’ve seen the rise of Danny Stzman and Isaiah Stalird’s uh utilization on the defense. They’ve been heavily rotated in recently. And so, I could see that being a move that gets made. Alante Taylor maybe. We’ll have to see. Like I personally would rather keep Alante Taylor because I do think he’s a valuable weapon on the defense um considering his role in Brandon Staley’s scheme, but I don’t think these guys are going anywhere. I I it would shock me if they did get traded, but all in all, I can say there will be a lot of things happening and that’s why you subscribe and turn on your notifications because the things will not slow down until after November 4th. And then after that, we have a bunch of new draft picks and we get to look ahead to the draft. I would trade Olave, Shaheed, Cooks, Werner, Taylor, Davis, Ruiz, and Jordan if anyone wants him lol.
Olave would be foolish to settle for a discount 👎
Shaheed to the Steelers would be ideal. Aaron Rodgers would get the most out of Shaheed.
Cesar Ruiz is the 79th rated guard. 15 backup guards are rated higher than Ruiz
If they give away shaheed I'm done with them we need him fuck olave he not a one raheed can be a 1
Dnt help nobody an trade shaheed
Olave on pace to get 100 catches and 1000 yards. I feel everyone else on offense is expendable.
when Micky gives olvae 20 million a year instead of 3 million y'all gonna be killing olavae everytime he drops a pass lol bro I'm not blaming olavae for nothing if he gets resigned for long term every drop will be Micky Loomis. Just like every loss is Micky Loomis fault this year. Colts perfect spot for shaheed, you got to stop Jonathan Taylor and that o line
Trade olave for a 2nd and 4th this year and a 6th next
Get only get an explosive play once every 5 to 6 games and the one was against the giants no one else
Shaheed to Denver to catch passes from Bo Nix and get to play in playoff games. Sean Payton will get the Broncos to a Superbowl.
Keep Olave and shaheed and use a draft pick on a WR next year.
Stack the talent!!!
Jeez, I thought it was just a couple of short weeks ago that you said trading Shaheed would constitute front office malpractice. Times have changed I guess. FWIW, I would trade AK for the right comp. He's not lighting it up this year either because of age or the coaches aren't utilizing him to his fullest potential. Always make the tough call to trade a player a year early rather than a year too late.
I would trade Olave over Shaheed, but trade both if the price is right. Mason Tipton was incredible in pre-season. We also have Sure-Hands in Cooks and Vele (and potentially Polk next season)
Trading our best wide receiver's when when we already don't have wide receivers is dumb AF.
Would be happy to ship off Ruiz. He’s been horrible
Olave is trash. Drops passes all the time with a great deal of scared play from him. Ever since his concussion he’s not going to do his part to catch any balls and can’t even catch when it hits him in the hands. Guy needs Velcro.
Trade Ruiz for a bag of Doritos.
Trade cam he is wash up
Someone would have to be really desperate to trade for Ruiz he is historically awful.
Trading off ruiz would actually be so clutch
The “right price” for Ruiz, a plain ham sandwich 😂
