I’ve been trying to put into words what’s concerning about Matthew’s play because I don’t know if he’s playing bad, but he’s definitely not playing good. And they’re like, when did he turn into a defensive 2C? And I’m like, that’s it. Because a defensive 2C is not bad. There’s a lot of teams in this league that could use a defensive 2C right now. He makes 13.25 million. And when Lton comes back, does that take enough defensive load off of Austin that he’s able to take on different assignments? Nicholas W’s got to learn how to win a faceoff. It’s concerning like it’s going to put them on the wing. So, I think a lot of assumptions they made before the season were proven wrong and it’s put them on their back foot and they have a winning record despite that. Wah is a big piece of that puzzle. Lton, I had no idea how big of a piece of the puzzle he was when they get him back. I like to see Austin at his best before he gets back. This guy is going to captain team USA at the Olympics. What do you mean we’re waiting for Scott Lton to get back? That’s what I mean. Holy That’s what I’m trying to say. It’s like a so so star, but they are still third in the Atlantic, which is basically outside of the Montreal Canadians. The Detroit Red Wings have behind Montreal and Detroit. Yeah, as we all thought it would.

there is literally not a single high end player left on the roster other than auston that plays defense in any way
they desperately NEED someone who also makes 8 digit price to actually get his ass in gear and play some defense on occasion

Basically Austin needs to score 50+ a year or hes not earning his income. He was paid to score.

Hearing adam and steve say behind Detroit is just music to my ears. At this point I just hope my wings make the playoffs. I understand theyre over achieving but its so fun tod be a fan the last couple weeks haha. And a fan of you guys. Even though I love to chirp you. 😂

Mathews turned into a defensive 2/3C at 4 Nations. And he hasn't gone back.
Matthews getting the C at the Olympics would be a nail in the coffin. Say what you will about Matthew Tkachuk but the guy shows up in big moments. Same for Eichel. Hell I’d even be okay with Larkin getting it.
Yes, Matthews being more defensively minded right now is what has been making him a selfish and bad post season performer for 8 years. 😂
It’s now or never for Toronto, after that, gone are the days where you guys are guaranteed top 3 Atlantic finishes. New dogs are in town in the coming years

Currently the leafs are 21st in the league. This is Matthews at his best. He lacks an elite setup man who knows him and his tendencies. Leafs are either a 1 line team or you play bottom 6 wingers on every line. They have 1 D who hits. You have zero 1sts for the next 3. Your D is aging and slow. Your #2 c is -20 lifetime in the playoffs. After 47yrs watching this club.. they have been here before. Everyone thought they were better built….this team is 2 years from a must rebuild. Everyone with a nmc/ntc need to submit a list!! 13 mill for a 2 c lol leafs are cooked

If Larkin and Jack Eichel stay hot and have better numbers then Mathew’s I can see . One of those two competing for the C for USA, IMP Both are better leaders then Mathew’s.
Called it when Marner left, calling it again now…. Don't be surprised if the leafs miss the playoffs this year or barely make it if they do
