Bryce Young on week-to-week mentality | Carolina Panthers

Second day of full participation. Feel good. It’s been great being able to be back out there. Um you definitely miss it. So it’s been uh it’s been great. Mobility back. Yeah. Yeah. Feel good. Um again, obviously I’m going to default to fall to the doctors. Um you know, I’m a competitor. I want to go out there and and be with my brothers. Uh so, um I’m doing everything I can. Just want to go out there and compete. And then, you know, at the end of the day, the the doctors will make decision. You feel like you could play Sunday? Um, you know, I I’m I I take it day day to day and today was today was a good day. I felt good today. Um, you know, uh, I continue to feel better and better. So, uh, again, I’m listen to the doctors. Um, I’m going to do whatever it takes to play. I want to play, of course. Um, but, you know, I I don’t have a medical degree, so I’m going to default to them. Talk about listening to the doctors. Have they given you any sort of like a firm benchmark on they want to see you do X to to get you cleared to play? No. Uh, same. Just just been taking it dayto-day. Um, obviously been in in contact with the with the medical staff, with the trainers. Um, you know, they’ve uh training staff has done a great job of just giving me stuff to do of treatment. Again, I’ve been been feeling better and better each day. So, um, you know, they they have their process, so I’m just sticking to it. What was last week like for you? I mean, you’ve been sidelined before, but not on the heels of a three-game win streak. Was it was it tough for you to to watch the team go down like that? Uh, yeah, of course. Um, you know, no one felt felt great about last week. Um, you know, I I I felt obviously I always want to be out there and also I felt for all the guys. You know, we we worked super hard and you know, just obviously how how the outcome was, what was what anyone was was hoping for. Um, but you know, I again, pages turn for all of us. Uh, this week it’s about Green Bay and and right now we’re in the in the thick of it, just trying to do everything we can to prepare. Um, so, uh, yeah, I’m I’m I’m grateful. When did you find out during the game that Andy’s thumb was compromised? Um yeah, it was really it was I think it was like the first he second play or something. It was like I know it was the first pass attempt. Um but yeah, he came out he was like you know obviously didn’t know what it was but um you know he he he mentioned it but of course he he wasn’t looking to come out or anything that speaks to his character to the to the warrior he is. Um he brought it up to me um just because we we talk all the time. I don’t even know if he really even brought it up to anyone else just cuz again that’s the competitor he is. So, um, him pushing through that, um, you know, that’s throwing thumb. Um, that’s not comfortable. It’s not easy. Him pushing through that. Um, not not complaining, not not not, you know, looking for anything else. That, you know, that that speaks to to player and person he is. What are you seeing on film from this Packers defense? Really good group, really good group. Um, you know, obviously up front, they’ve they’ve done a really good job in the running pass game. Um, secondary plays really well, plays with a lot of play speed and play strength. um do a good job being matchy and in man and um and zone. Doing a good job of being where they’re supposed to be. Good job of landmarks communicating second level. Um they play really fast. Uh you know they they play physical. Um so it’s a really good unit. Um they do a great job of of mixing calls, giving different looks. They have a really good scheme. So we’re excited for the challenge. Uh we you know we we know it’s going to take everything. So right now it’s just throughout the week uh working so we can have the best opportunity to do that. How aware Michael Parsons is every play and what does having one guy with that ability do to an offense when you have to sort of account for for a single guy? Yeah, obviously it’s a it’s a it’s a it’s a part of the game plan. Um you know, a guy like that you always have to have a plan for. Um you know, you’re always aware of. Um but I I have all the confidence and faith in the world in the O line. Um and everyone involved. Um again, we have a ton of respect for for him, have a ton of respect for them as a defense. Um, you know, it’s a that’s a um a great great player on that side. Um, you know, he’s young, but I think it’ll, you know, he’s he’s going to have all time great career. Already kind of has, and he’s going to continue to keep doing that. So, um, have a ton of respect for him, um, and that entire defense, but I have confidence in us to to execute. Um, that’s the NFL. You know, you go up against, um, great players, we get to go up against the best, and, uh, we’re grateful for that. Bryce, has playing at Lambo been on your bucket list? Um, I’ve heard a ton of great things about it. I I am excited. Um, everyone, uh, you know, coaches and and players have all been there and said it’s a really special environment. So, um, again, I I I’m grateful that, you know, I get to play in the NFL. I get to, you know, play play in these stadiums, be a part of these stands, whatever it may be. Um, you know, I’m super super grateful for it. Um, and uh, yeah, I try not take anything for granted. Are you glad to be playing in early November rather than late December up there? Um, yeah. I mean, you know, again, it’s whether it’s early or late, that that’s part of the game. Again, it’s NFL, you know, you’re going to have cold weather games wherever it is. Um, but, uh, yeah, I’m, you know, think it’s supposed to be a beautiful day. Whatever it is, we’ll we’ll be ready. Bryce, not from a physical perspective, but for you last week, what’s the experience of watching a game and not playing in one light? Um, yeah, it’s it’s, you know, you just change your perspective to being however helpful you can on the sideline. You know, I wanted to be there for Andy, want to be there for the team, bring energy, bring juice. um you know so uh I think that’s you know it’s a change of perspective obviously you know the competitor um you know and me and I’m sure and everyone in the locker room you know you want to go out there you want to make every play you want to be on the field 24/7 and you know NFL is a league full of full of ups and downs and um when you’re there though you know your mind’s just shift into how how helpful you can be there was a moment in the game where like princely was frustrated and you were kind of talking to him what what was happening there or what did you feel like doing at that point um you know just I I’ll keep the conversation we have between us, but um you know, obviously as you you you just want to make sure that uh everything from from a team standpoint is, you know, focusing the right way. Um you know, he’s a a great young player. He’s going to continue to be uh be really good for us. He has a super bright future. Um and, you know, really it, you know, obviously you want everything to be um you know, to be about the team and everything to to to come together and be with your brothers, but at the end of the day, it it shows that he cares. You know, he doesn’t you know, I I talked to him at the locker I saw him in the locker room and he didn’t, you know, he wasn’t just, oh, who cares? Like, we lost the game. You know, it matters to him. You know, he has that fire, he has that emotion. Obviously, you want to make sure it’s channeled the right way, but uh I’d rather that than you know, someone who just, you know, doesn’t bat an eye at at a loss or or doesn’t want to be better. And, you know, that speaks to his competitive spirit. Understating every game’s important and and not taking any game, whatever. You also said you guys are in the mix now. You’re four and four. you have an opportunity to play a team that a lot of people think can challenge for the NFC. What how excited are you for this opportunity and and to be in this position so late in the year? Um yeah. Uh I sorry I know you tried to curve this answer, but um truth is it’s you know we’re we’re 0 and0 this week. You know, we we the big picture stuff um is stuff that’s that’s really out of our control. Um just from a personal philosophy, I’m not a big picture thinker. I’m not a a long-term goal setter. Um, I try to focus on what I can control as a team. We coach talks about all the time. Let’s uh let’s work to go 1 and0. And right now we’re 0 and0. You know, that’s that’s really all that matters. You know, there’s so much movement throughout the year. There’s so much uh you know, other stuff you have to account for. If we put our focus in that, you know, it’s not going all to to the Packers like it needs to be. I know you weren’t surprised that Andy played with an injury. Were you surprised when you found out he played the whole game with a broken thumb? Um, not really, honestly. again that and because of just the competitive nature he has. Um I know that anything he you know he would have pushed pushed through. He would have done everything to go out there again. He’s not a complainer. Um and you know seeing it after and and seeing the swelling like it not not surprising but again that that’s a warrior. [Music]
