#BALvsMIA postgame press conferences | Miami Dolphins
Jordan, I guess how does it go this way for a team so shortly after the effort that you guys did put on on Sunday? Turnovers. We got to capitalize when we get down to the red zone. We just had too many turn turnovers today and I feel like that that really hurt us. What was Lamar Jackson like going up against as Derrick Henry is constantly uh uh pounding at you guys. Uh I mean I thought they had a decent game, but a lot of that came towards the end of the game. Game was out of reach. A lot of garbage time to be honest with you. I felt like we played uh well defensively in the first half, but like I said, turnovers that kills you. Um not capitalizing, not scoring when we could, um giving them the ball back, giving them an extra set of downs, players like that, they’re going to find a way to get in the end zone. So we got to capitalize when we got the chance to. and um and play complimentary football. You mentioned the run game, you know, the first half as David said, like it was really well. Um the run defense, excuse me. What kind of happened in the second? Like I said, a lot he got a lot of his yards in garbage time. Um yeah, they only had 30 yards rushing in the first half and you guys had out out gave them 235 yards to like 109. Did you feel like you and you’re down 14 to six, do you feel like you’re out playing them at that point? Absolutely. Uh that was the mindset coming into halftime. Even though the score was what it was, I felt like we were we were playing uh well enough to win the game. Uh but at the end of the day, it’s always going to come down to turnovers. Uh giving them the ball when they shouldn’t have it, not scoring when we should, it changes the game, changes the momentum, changes the spirit, everything. And so until we learn how to not beat ourselves, we going to win a football game. What was your understanding of what went wrong uh when Mark Andrews got away for his second touchdown and Minka and Dante Trader collided in coverage? Uh I’m not sure. I I was some somewhere in coverage. I actually didn’t see it. I had to see it on the film. to how do you explain for it to change so drastically from 34 to 10 in Atlanta to then uh what we saw tonight? Yeah, I think for us uh offensively uh just started with the little things. Um you know, we’re off a little bit here on this play, we’re off a little bit there on that play, and we just couldn’t find find our flow in that. And then when we did find our flow, you know, we had some penalties, we had some issues going on with that. So, um, you know, I I I would say first off that that all starts with me and got to continue to get our guys better in that aspect. But, uh, this isn’t a game where uh, you know, we’re we’re discouraged. It’s one of those games where you wish you you could have done, you know, more or or whatever you could to help the guys go out there and and execute the way we wanted to execute offensively. I think the defense gave us a great opportunity. Um, you know, in the first half and then in the second half as well with crucial third down stops, giving us the ball back, giving us an opportunity and as I’ve said prior, those are times where we got to capitalize on those. Can you walk me through the fourth down play towards the end of the second quarter uh to Von? Yeah, that that was just uh I just got to give him a better ball. You’re surprised that that that was a call and Devon Hen had uh uh Cal Hamilton on him. Um do you wish you would have gone elsewhere? time. Not necessarily. Um in in that particular look, um they they went cover zero. So, you got to get the ball out regardless. So, that’s what I did. Uh the the fourth and one where Larry Borne was called uh for the false start. What was your understanding of uh what happened there? Um as far as to to I would say I would say with with the Ravens fans, it maybe got a little muffled uh with my cadence and and you know, the crowd noise. So, you know, we we kind of talked about that on the sideline after and got that corrected. You talked about not being discouraged. Just how do you guys kind of rally together, try to bounce back next week? Well, we had a we had a pretty heartfelt conversation in there after after the game. And uh yeah, after that that conversation, you know, I feel like guys are going to go away. They’re going to do what they need to do. Uh but when we come back on Monday, you know, we’re ready to work. um right at the end of the half um no Hail Mary and then sliding uh in the pocket. Can you explain just what you’re you’re thinking in that moment and then just deciding to protect yourself there? Yeah, I think in in that instance you’re trying to buy as much time to allow those guys to get down there and then for yourself as well. You you know you got to try to maneuver the pocket and then get a get a clean hitch or crow hop to be able to throw that. So that’s when like I I I wasn’t even looking at the guys um running down there, you know. I was I was kind of trying to maneuver the pocket and then if the pocket allowed then I was going to be able to launch one, but you know, it happens. 235 yards of offense in the first half and and six points to show for it. Is that is it frustrating to come in at halftime or is it you think okay we’re we’re playing our game when you seem to come mistakes. Yeah, I would say it’s frustrating offensively and all the guys felt that that same way. Uh frustrating because uh we knew we were a little off here, we were a little off there and we had some mistakes, we had some penalties, some crucial ones at at that and um you know we just weren’t able to capitalize and so uh we felt we were moving the ball pretty well in the first half. we just weren’t showing anything for it really. When the receivers are kind of coughing with the ball, what’s the message to them during those moments? Well, they they they know they got to hold on to the ball just like any of the guys um you know um that that are ball carriers. Even myself, like I know I got to protect the ball, they know the same thing. So, it’s it’s not about reminding them um that like, hey, you know, you can’t do that. just continuing to encourage them, keep them encouraged, keep their their mindset going in the game um to keep them confident. With this being a mini buy, the weekend off, also the trade deadline looming on Tuesday, uh do you have concerns for uh Mike for uh players that might get dealt with this team not two and seven? Uh I I would say that’s that’s above my pay grade. you know, I let those guys upstairs worry about that and and do what they need to do in terms of uh how we’re working things with the team. Um and so yeah, thanks guys. Mike, how do you explain how it goes sideways this way just a mere four days after uh the team played so well in Atlanta? You know, I um million- dollar question there. uh you know I think uh you know I think we came uh to play. I think um there was uh you know I think it was obvious in the first half that you know our team could play um toeto toe and we felt very good about uh you know our plan going in and and the way guys came out. Um, but the uh you know it it’s pretty simple like uh you got a I think a red zone turnover, you have a red zone turnover on downs, you have a backed up turnover and a missed field goal. Um and generally it’s it’s a bad omen to um be uh very capable of being in the lead and uh being behind getting six points in the first half um with having uh I think twothirds time of possession if I remember correctly uh roughly and uh you that that’s setting up for failure. um and we were minus three and um they they were three for three in the red zone and we didn’t score a touchdown. So, uh there was elements of the the the football confidence um you know uh created last week. Um but the bottom line is you have to um cross your tees and dot your eyes in the in the National Football League or or you get made pay. So, um there’s it’s uh very very um disappointing and uh unfortunately we’re going to have to sit on that disappointment for 10 days. Um I know the locker room would like to go play another Thursday night game um in 4 days to uh get this bad taste out of their mouth, but um these are the things that um will constantly um occur in the National Football League. you won’t like the results if if you have um those major elements um uh uh minus in the red zone and minus in turnovers. You’re it’s going to be a long day. You mentioned after the Browns game that it it had looked like players frustrations got in the way of execution and considering the miscus in the first half tonight. Uh was the result I guess something similar as what happened in that Cleveland game? No, I I think this game um I think like I said before, if if you are winning um football but not scoring points and turning it over and um you know you’re uh eventually it’s hard to it’s hard to just beat teams for four quarters. Eventually they’re going to um eventually they’re going to fight back and have some success. I thought that’s what the third quarter was. um you know and I and I think what was different um was that guys really um they they sustained that and then um defensively specifically I thought we got um couple stops after after that third quarter um and uh we weren’t able to overcome some self-inflicted stuff offensively um and and didn’t have quite the game we were expecting um on teams. So, uh I think it’s a very it was a different different feel. Um there was uh a lot more venom um towards the expectation of like uh you know, even still after the their first touchdown drive in the third quarter, um I think our team felt like uh they were going to win. So, um, it it it’s, uh, each each game’s different, but this was a this was a different way to lose. After the Larry Borum false start on fourth and one, you were clearly, I rate, was that at the officials at at Larry or that was at uh, that was that self-inflicted wounds that um, you know, I I we’ve been putting such an emphasis on, you know, all things related to our operation. Um and in a critical fourth and fourth and one where the the you know we we were pretty fired up about um the defensive look. It was what we were calling uh calling the play for and um that’s uh flat out a controllable that um our team knows that keeps you from winning. So I I was I rate at um nothing but uh our self-inflicted wound. What went into the um decision to go for on fourth and two near the end of the first half and can you tell us about the play call and result from your perspective? Um so you know I really thought that uh uh we we needed to to it’s always dangerous when you are theoretically beating a team and you don’t have a lead or you’re it’s it’s very dangerous just because the es and flows in the National Football League. So, um I you know, we we had a uh we had a concept that um we we felt pretty good about and uh you know, I uh our our primary um didn’t quite go in the area of uh that we expected to. Um kind of a a miscommunication, so to speak. Um and then we had an eligible um right right inside to make a conversion that um we you know we so basically there was multitude of um uh failures in a critical situation on that one. Um and had I you know I was super confident that that wouldn’t be the case otherwise I wouldn’t have taken that risk. But um failure to execute uh a look that I think we can um resulted in in no no points and that’s a gigantic momentum swing. What did you see on the long pass to Jaylen while was wiped out by the penalty on Ali? probably what you guys saw that um you know there’s a subjective call that uh you know New York was uh was um uh called in to uh determine whether or not the objective part of the subjective call which was whether or not there was contact they they confirmed. So, um, I saw, you know, a guy trip and fall or slip and he was, you know, called for intentionally tripping somebody. So, that’s what I saw. Defense did a great job stopping the run in the first half. What do you think happened in the second? Um, again, it’s uh you you uh it’s it’s hard to to perform to that high standard. um and then have to have defensive um series uh so close together meaning um you know they did did a great job. We were trying to do it for four quarters. Um they they got a couple of their wins and then uh we we didn’t uh possess the ball and give the defense rest to uh you know have that same type of performance they had in the first half. So we changed the formula on them. Uh they they uh they got a little window into uh having some success. They leaned on us. Um and uh you know it it was unfortunate. I think um you know I think that good news is the de uh our defense has expectation um to stop the run uh regardless and have shown the capability to do so. Um and uh but you know at the same time I think um you’re you’re playing with fire um when you’re when you’re g giving the ball back to that offense um who’s uh made made their living running the ball. So um that it was something we were trying to avoid at all costs is short drives and unfortunately um we had a couple that were very short. What went into the decision to make uh Jaylen Wright inactive tonight? It was a tough one. Um and there was uh there were both uh special teams and offensively um we had some guys that were were nicked that um you know up until this point we’ve had a you know Van and Olly have have uh been pretty much um able to stay healthy as you guys know. I I like having um the three back rotation. It was just something that um we were a little nervous about from the other positions, specifically special teams and and um our offensive skill. So, uh it’s a numbers game that um you know, ended up, you know, when obviously if you can predict when a if a runner goes down, um you wouldn’t do that. uh Ollie was able to um you know be back, but um it’s it’s one of those numbers things that you have to uh work through each and every every game. What was the information you received on Chop Robinson? He went into concussion protocol. Yeah, concussion protocol. That that’s all I got. And then what about Ali, Rasul, and Ify? Um Ollie uh was uh um able to he he would have been able to go back in the game. Um the other two I’ll find out more um tomorrow. Mike, what would be the process? The trade deadlines coming up. What would be the process to decide what you guys want to do? Uh I mean I the answer to that question would probably um be a little irresponsible. Uh I don’t um you know Chris and I have conversations. Um we haven’t uh had uh anything uh related to um you know how we’re preparing this football um football team uh today. Uh I I just just you know call the game and and uh we we just lost a game as a team. So, um I’ll, you know, we’ll probably have more conversations um but, uh tomorrow, but as of right now, I it the I’m more digesting the loss. How do you guys bounce back? Obviously, you guys have the long layoff. Is that a a good thing? Um guys can kind of go out, clear their mind for then come back on Monday or I I think it’s uh you know, whatever um our collective nucleus chooses to make it. I think um it’s very tough to sit on a loss over a 10-day period. Um but it also gives you opportunity to uh to dictate the terms um of how your your next game is going to go. So um you know I I think the the focus um and the attention to detail um has to be uh turned up. I think guys are very um hungry for that. But that’s the only way that you that you move forward in this game and get um get better is is you uh focus on what you can control and um go back to work. So as as much as uh it’s not ideal, it’s absolutely um a non-negotiable uh in the National Football League is um you know sometimes you have to um press forward and put more in um even even when you get punched in the stomach. Um I I think uh uh we’ll have a highly motivated team um to uh play football the right way and uh um get uh you know uh get back to the momentum that we we thought we uh were building with with the last game. go. Um it it was uh it wasn’t for uh the lack of effort and I thought that we came out and had the ability um to take control over this game like we did last game and unfortunately um in critical points of execution. we fell short and uh you had a um eight point deficit going into the third quarter and then um uh took 14 um with without a response. So that uh that it it’s tough to stomach, but um we will uh we will go we’ll look each other in the eyes and um rely on uh um you know the the leaders and the captains to to show the way and everybody to um tighten up their game and press forward to uh to go get that next win. Fans were booing. Uh the broadcast showed fans with bags over their head. Um how do you personally take this loss and then where this team stands right now at two and seven? Yeah, I mean I I I personally it’s um it’s you know you want to um dictate the terms, you want to fix stuff and um yeah, it sucks. That sucks. Um all of that does. Uh but you know I think it’s a a pretty consistent formula of you know fans enjoy winning and and so uh our expectation is that we have to do the work and do the right things um for uh for for fans to en enjoy the the experience and um unfortunately we didn’t do that tonight. Um so we got to get back to work to give them something to cheer about. Thank you.

Things are back to normal 😂
No accountability from Tua and the media asked him soft ass questions
Fire Grier, Mike,& Tua!!
The Dolphins outgained the Ravens 233-119 in the first half. 3 plays cost them the fumbles, missed fg, false start on 4th and 1. Mr Brooks is correct
They always beat themselves.
Mcdaniels need to learn how to talk what’s up with the “Umms” and “uhhh”
Just keep losing 👍
mcdaniel looked… different. he had emotions. he was watching the game instead of staring at his sheet. he was yelling and screaming like this was life and death game. i thought ross was going to play out his contract, but mcdaniel looked like his ass was in the jackpot.
Bills gonna win 48 10. It's gonna be worse.
We hit more 3 yard out routes and swing passes so who really won
Uhm, um, uhm,uhm ,🔥 Grier and McDaniel!!! Umm
Man said ummmmm more then gettin 1st downs… fire em
Can someone find me the past time an nfl team had 2 wr fumbles in the same game?
Someone gotta bet on the um and uh o/u
So much potential
Your fans want you to succeed
Slip in practice, fail in the game
But show some pride
Show some pride
Only one team wins the big game each year
But over and over again
In critical moments
Not even a shot
Don’t embarrass us
I’m sorry but after so many seasons and so many self-inflicted losses, everything coach Mike is saying is wrong.
Never any heart and smarts in the crucial moments.
Can’t he see that?
Is he supposed to be taken seriously that he thought his guys came to play?
Coach!
Some players will always come ready to play.
Some, it’s your job to prepare them for success.
Man, I’d be a lot more willing to deal with losing if the head guy would actually cop to that
Seriously, how has coach grown?
Tua?
False starts????
Unacceptable!!!!!
Tua the coach killer baby!
FIRE MIKE MCDANIEL TRADE TUA
This was a precise squad game for the ravens
What happened to the run game up the middle
It’s interesting watching a talented team dominate in so many aspects, but fail in the worst possible moments in the worst possible ways. At least in the first half. The second half was the team playing with a deflated spirit. Even when they play good, they suck. It’s enough to keep me watching, but damn it hurts. Sucks to suck I guess
I remember two years ago where Tua would say "I need to do this better, I need to do a better job telling the guys this" it ain't the same no more
He was thinking I can’t throw that far on the Hail Mary😂
That Miami heat cooked all their brains. Need a new owner, GM, QB, OC, COACH. Teams done. The small Window they did have the last few years is closed and nailed shut
Mcdaniels, why is he employed?
Since romancing over that flukey 11-6 season ehh? 😂
Too many key turnovers and a couple of key calls by the refs that really hurt the momentum.
Head coaching job is not for everyone. Mike McDaniel, Brandon Staley, Robert Saleh, even KOC, all look like one year wonder boy and then they are exposed and lose creativity. A HC must grow together with the players. If not you are predictable and boring.
damn even the media team doesnt give a crap anymore. "yeah lets just throw everyone in one long video"
