CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS vs WINNIPEG JETS GAME 11 NHL HOCKEY LIVE GAME CAST & AUDIO
Chicago tonight. But if you’re Connor, you’re definitely going to have to buckle down against Taves at the faceoff circle. Yeah, I mean, Johnny’s been good right from day one, right when he entered the league. It almost seems like it was just uh one of those things that he’s naturally good at and he worked at on top of it. And it’s such an important part of the game, especially on special teams. Um you know, possession the puck, having the puck, uh not chasing the puck. You know, I if you lose the faceoff, you could spend the next 45 seconds trying to get it back and then you’re changing and you don’t get to play any offense. And uh it seems to be a topic of conversation here with the Hawks and they got to get better in that area. Uh absolutely, for sure. Um you know, maybe he can maybe Connor will learn a thing or two against going against Johnny today, the old veteran savvy vet. Um something to watch for as well. So uh Johnny’s a competitor and that’s the number one thing being in the faceoff circle and playing center is being competitive. So um you know, Conor’s going to have his hands full, but hopefully he can handle it. I remember Connor was miked up for his uh NHL debut in Pittsburgh and I think through two periods he said to the ref, “I don’t think I’ve won a draw all night against Sid because he I think he went like 0 for nine.” So is another tough test for for Connor tonight. Speaking of Bard, he’s coming off the hattick, four points. All the talk about him in the the summer was just wanting to change up his offseason program to to get a half step faster. And respectfully, I thought it was a really mature decision by Connor to respectfully decline Team Canada’s offer to play at the World so he can focus on not disrupting his offseason regimen. And boy, Colin, it’s really paying off so far. He just looks like a different player. And confidence-wise, it’s there, but just he looks faster and and sometimes we can overread some of the clips that are surfacing in the workouts over the summer, but when you see it on the ice, it sure looks like he accomplished his goal this summer. Well, I mean, with all the stat tracking, it’s it’s not even about looking. It’s about it’s factual. He is faster. Um, he’s getting clocked as fast as he ever has. And, uh, kudos to him for for, uh, focusing on that in the offseason and longer offseason than anyone wants. Obviously, we want to make the playoffs and and we’re, you know, taking steps to get there, but, um, cuz that’s a long off season, um, when you don’t make the playoffs. And he put a lot of work in. It’s evident in his gameplay. Number two, it’s his third year in the league. So, he’s although he’s still young, he’s shows more confidence, more maturity to me where he, you know, whether it’s a scrum or someone’s trying to hit him or or make it hard on him and he’s pushing back and he’s not taking any crap from anybody. Um, and it’s refreshing to see it. It’s nice to see almost like he just has this new new found maturity or newfound I don’t want to say playing harder but he’s you know I don’t know more more like sticking up for himself if that makes sense outside of the speed like he has this look like he wants to win and he wants to be a good player and he wants to be the best player and it’s evident in his play especially last game with the three goals four points um he’s got it rolling right now and he’s only going to get better. Awesome. Good stuff Colin we will uh talk down the road. Have a great call. Fantastic. Thanks, Charlie. All right, that’s going to do it for the FanDuel Sportsbooks Chicago Blackhawks pregame show. Chicago, Chicago. From the anthem to the final horn, it’s time for Chicago Blackhawks hockey with the call of the game. Here’s John Whitman and Colin Frasier. The Chicago Blackhawks hit the ice in Winnipeg tonight to begin their longest road trip of the season. And they’re also facing former captain Jonathan Taves, who will dawn a jet sweater and play against his old team for the first time. Reunions aside, points are on the line as the Hawks will try to take a road win out of the peg. Something they haven’t done in a while. Hi again everyone. John Witman along with Colin Frasier. Happy to be working with you again, Fras. Put it there. Thanks for having me back. Excited. Let’s have some fun here tonight. We are here at the Canada Life Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where tonight the Blackhawks will take on the Winnipeg Jets for the first of four meetings this season. And this is the start of the six-game road trip. starts here and it it actually makes a little bit of sense. We go from here to Edmonton, then to Seattle, then to Vancouver, then to Calgary, then to Detroit. That part doesn’t make sense, but it’s part of it. But you recall, Colin, when the Blackhawks were out of the United Center for an extended period of time because of the circus, the circus was in town. So now this is akin to that in a way, but there’s no circus. But it’s an opportunity for the boys to bond for sure. Yeah. Love getting out on the road. Love getting out on the road early. Um they’re off to a good start or at least a better start than a lot maybe expected heading into the season. And this is a true test uh this road trip. Um the last where am I here? The last two seasons. Chicago’s 1 and 15 and one against the teams on this trip. So this is the first game is going to be huge test. Winnipeg’s a great team. They got good players. They play structurally sound. They play the right way. It’s not going to be an easy game, but if they have a good first game of this trip, then it sets it up for the remainder of the trip going forward. And one of those great players, of course, is Jonathan Taves, former Blackhawk captain of 14 seasons as captain. He had 15 total seasons with the Blackhawks wearing the uh the beautiful crest on his chest. And everybody in Chicago that saw Jonathan Taves lead the Blackhawks team know they knew what he stood for. They know what he stands for. And it’s great to see him back in the game. You and Charlie talked a little bit about his emotions coming into this game. I want to talk about the business aspect because you were in the dressing room with that guy and you know how serious he could be. Yeah, I know how serious he is in a pingpong game, let alone a a regular season NHL hockey game. He’s captain serious. He is um the ultimate competitor at all aspects. You know, he wants to win just as bad as anyone else. He’s not going to let Connor Baddard or any of the Blackhawks off off the hook. He’s going to have some of that old veteran savviness to him to make it a little bit hard on him. Um he certainly wants to play spoiler against his his former team for sure. You met you said veteran savvy. I’m going to add to that a little bit of bite. I think Johnny’s going to really come to play in this game tonight. Yeah. And I mean I he’s exciting to w I’m excited to watch this game. Obviously we want the Blackhawks to win. That’s obvious. but uh such a legend, such a good guy and such a good man and having a honor and privilege to play with uh with him and a future hall of famer and all the things that it’s exciting to watch him play against us. All right. Well, as the boys hit the ice, we’ll tell you we are into some sponsored items starting with who are you banking on? Sponsored by Marquette Bank. Keys for tonight’s game sponsored by your Chicago and Northwest Indiana Hyundai dealers. Colin, what do you have? I got number one. I got discipline. You have to stay out of the box. They are going to honor the First Nations folks here in the province of Manitoba and Canada. I love this. They have a video presentation that they do much like what we see at the United Center before the game honoring the sock and and uh the other uh the other uh First Nations tribes and uh so they do that here in Winnipeg as well and I really like it. I think it’s apppropo and it it’s meaningful. So they just handled that. Right now we’re going to send it down to ice level. Pick up our anthem singer for both O Canada and the Star Spangle Banner. Hawks fans, please enjoy our national anthems. backly win for the singing of tonight’s national anthems. Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light what so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight or the ram arts we watched were so gallently streaming and the rockets ran glare. The bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star spangled banner yet wave or the land of the free and the home of the brave. Oh Canada, our home and native land. True patriot love. In all of us command with glowing hearts we see thee rise. The true north strong and free from far and wide. Oh canada we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Beverly Win with our country’s anthems. Very well done. And let’s get to the starting lineups. In goal for the Winnipeg Jets, Connor Halabuk, he’s 27-1 with two shutouts in his career against the Blackhawks. At defense are going to be Neil Peon and Logan Stanley. Up front from left to right, Vladislav Nestnikov. He’ll start at left wing. Former Hawk captain Jonathan Ta will center the Jets opening line. Starting at the right wing is Alex Aafalo. And for the Blackhawks, it’s Spencer Knight in goal. He’s 01 and one in his career against Winnipeg. At defense are going to be Wyatt Kaiser and Louis Krebier up front from left to right. Table Terrain starts at left wing. Frank Nazar will center the opening line. Tyler Bertusi starts at the right wing. Referees this evening are John McKisac and Eric Ferlat. The linesman are Mark Shuchek and Travis Tumi. Down to center ice we go. Taves against Nazar to get her started and the drop. The puck were underway and Nazar wins the draw. The Hawks get in control. Kaiser flings a pass up the left wing side. This is off the stick of Tavo Turvine and deep into the jet zone. Former captain Jonathan Taves took it out. Here’s Taves to center ice and over the hot glue line on the right wing. He whips the puck down the boards and in behind the net and then Louis Krevier gave it a poke up the left wing side. Terrain clears it just out the center ice. Afall took the puck back for the Jets. Tried to whip it on the left wing for Nesnikov coming into the hot zone but Lou Krebier took it away. passing it ahead. Nazar little bump pass to Terraine into Bertusi over the Jets line and he fires a shot from the right point that sails over the net. Neil Pino to the puck along the right sideboards Winnipeg zone. Whips the puck across to Logan Stanley 6’7 245. He’s kind of a big lad. He dumps the puck down into the Hawk zone. Sam Renzel, look out. He plays the puck from the near corner. He tried to flip it over in front of the Hawk net for Blic and Spencer Knight who had gone in behind the net to play the carum had to scramble to get back into the net and pin that puck to the paint of the crease. A bit of a close call, but Spencer made it look easy. Um John, tonight’s broadcast is sponsored by Flight by Yingling. Crisp, refreshing, only 95 calories. Flight, the next generation of light beer. Indeed it is. In behind the Hawk neck, Mark Shley, the all-time leading scorer now for the Jets, flips it out to the right point. Dylan Denell Dlo fires from there and that goes wide. Josh Morsy at the left point. Takes the puck for the Jets. Send it across the ring. Ryan Donado of the Hawk grabs hold of it and clears down to the Jets blue line. Here’s Dlo with a lead pass for Kyle Connor into the Hawk zone down the right wing side. Doubling back Colton Doc. He got the hook into Connor and the whistle blows on a penalty here to the Hawks. Little bit of a Soft call maybe. Um I get why he called it. Uh Colton Doc backtracking through the middle. Put a little pressure. One hand on a stick. He just tried to lift his stick with one hand and it kind of got up in his hands and he’s calling him for the twominute hook and penalty. Little bit of an unfortunate break there. He was just trying to get a stick on the puck. Kind of lift a stick with one hand reaching. Well, the Jets are 5 for 15 in their last four games here at the Canada Life Center on their power play overall. They come into this game, eighth on the power play in the NHL, 9 for 33, 27.3%. And they’ve been revving it up of late. Gustav Nyquist carries out of the jet zone to center ice. Flips it down the right wing to Nino Rider to Nyquist. Bottom of the right circle, put in front. They score. It’s Nasnikov with a stick wide open and snapped it past Spencer Knight. It’s a power play goal at 142 of period number one. It’s one- nothing Jets. Yeah, it was a wellexecuted play by Winnipeg. Kicked it out wide, driving wide down the right side to Spencer Knight’s left. A little bit of a seam play to the center support. He kicked it into the slot. Nomesticov made no doubt about it. Put it mid low blocker side on Spencer Knight. It was kind of a um a bang bang play with good support and good speed on the power play. Nice entry by Winnipeg. So for Nomestikov, goal number five on the season and the Jets one for one on their power play take a one- nothing lead. Get back to the play. The puck leaves the ice surface in front of the benches. John, all Blackhawks wins this season are sponsored by Circa Sports Illinois. Download your new bookie today at circasports.com. Namaste from Nyquist and Nethermart Netherrider. I almost said Nemire. You wonder how many couple generations away. So one nothing in favor of the Jets as we return to play in behind the Winnipeg net. Connor Heluk leaving the puck there for Josh Morsy who turned it over in the corner. Andre Burkowski of the Hawks put it back in behind the Jets net. Are we going to get another penalty here? Yes, I think we are. Interference is the call and I think this is going to the Jets. So the Hawks are going to get an opportunity on their power play. Yeah, going behind the net. It was Bowski was on the forche and the other defenseman I think or a player anyway stepped in front of him just to run a little bit of a pick to give his defense partner a little bit more space and time and it wasn’t much but it was enough to throw him out of the way and and get the interference call. So this is a sitco power play. Score savings on every Phillip with club sitco. Download the app now to start saving. Joff circle to Helluck’s left. The Jets get hold of the puck. Delo in the near corner. Tried to flip it out. Picked off by Connor Bernard. Right circle to the line now. Right point. Renzel now to the left wing circle. Baroski. He shot it in front of the jets. Net tipped wide by Nazar in behind the net. Now Bertusi takes the puck. Put it out to Burkosski. Left point to Renzel. High slot. Leaving it in the high slot. Now Burkosski down to the left wing circle to Bertusi to Burkosski left point. He’ll carry down to the corner putting the puck behind the net. Bertusi now to Bard who pumps one in from the right circle and a blocker save made by Helluck. And the puck is cleared all the way down by Jonathan Dave. Yeah, Bard got all of that one. It was Bertusi on the left side. Uh kicked it up over to Oh my gosh. I’m drawing a blank. Sorry guys. went low to high from the skip the dishes on the right side up to Bard who was coming downhill and he got all of that one-time it might have hit clipped his mask it looks like cuz they blew the whistle for him to fix his mask. It looks like the strap broke off which is why the whistle went. I was just going to say the whole Winnipeg Jets bench was holding their breath as Hellob stopped play and went over to the bench to get his head gear checked out. That’s a vital piece of equipment. You think you could see him following the ref up the ice cuz the puck went all the way down to the Blackhawk zone. He’s trying to get his attention like my helmets my helm’s busted. So he blew the whistle down to get it fixed. Here’s Tanner Pearson, Frz’s old teammate in LA facing off against the Hawks. Frank Nazar just outside the Hawk blue line. The Hawks get control. And now Renzel passing it. Nazar breaking into the jet zone down the slot. He’ll fire and a save made by Helle. Nazar had gotten behind the defense. Luke Shen was playing defense there for the Jets in a penalty killing mode and Nazar with superior speed was able to position himself behind him for that pass and that ultimate breakaway. Well, Nazar versus Luke Shen foot race. I’ll take that any day of the week. Renzel made a good heads up play. Frankie was standing right at the blue line standing still waiting for it. He had to spin right away and get on his horse to get going. And good save by Hell. He tried to go low glove. Hawks control off the draw. Here’s Renzel with a shot from the top of the left circle. Blocked in front. Taes grabs the rebound and spins the puck off the boards deep into the Hawk zone. Knight stopping the puck behind the net. 55 seconds on the power play. Here’s Conor Bernard picking it up along the right sideboards and he’ll cruise out to center with it over the jet line. Drop pass. Renzel high slot. Lose it now to the right wing point. Put the puck to the right wing corner to Bard. He skates it back to the right halfboards. Made it behind the back pass, but this is picked off by the Jets. Parker Ford will skate short-handed over the Hawk line left circle and shoot. that centered out of the glove of light and then he gathers the puck in and plops on it to the right of the crease and holds it. Yeah, Connor was coming down the right wing boards. He felt a little bit of pressure and he tried to go backhand with his backhand against the boards uh up top to Renzel to get it away from pressure and it was just picked off by Parker Ford. He was in perfect positioning and he took it down for the twoon-one and Knight stood his ground and made that save look easy. You know, I like the creativity, Colin. I’m not against that, but you you can’t be careless with the puck, especially against a veteran team like the Jets. They’re pretty good on the penalty kill. Yeah, and they know they can pick those off and they can make you pay, too. You saw that on the first power play. All right, Jim Lechinoff, head on the hot blue line to center ice, gave the puck to Ryan Green to Tavo Terravine. Put it in over the Jets line right point. Nick Felino Hawks captain spins it down behind the net around to Ryan Donado in the left wing corner. He flipped it back around to Felino near the right point. He shot it back across for Donado. The pass eludes him and Luke Shin is there to fire it all the way down and the penalty time is up. The Jets are back to full strength. So now here is Linov carrying out of the Hawk zone ahead to center ice. He’ll drop it back to Vlassic in the Hawk zone. The teams are in line changes. So Vic decides to hold the puck between the circles as the Hawks assemble. Lassic with a lead pass now ahead to the Jets line off of Colton Dockstick. On the bat of Logan Stanley moves it out to center ice. Here’s Nidato Nidariter from Kerr, Switzerland, dumping the puck off the right side boards and in behind the Hawk net and Knight plays it back to the corner. Nidarrider pins it there, but the Hawks get possession. Jason Dickinson moving up the left wing side. Try to make a rink right past this deflect now beside the net. Look out, Nemesikov on his knees. Had the puck underneath him as he slid into the side of the net. The Hawks get it back anyway and they clear their zone as Landon Slagert pushes the puck over the blue line, but Jonathan Tavage took it back for Winnipeg. Put the puck down beside the Hawk net. Alex Lassic in behind. Moves it over to Dickinson. Tried to pass it out up the left wing side. Gabe Valardi in the Jets sent it back into the right wing corner. Alex Lassic took it away. He’ll pass it ahead for Dickinson whose lead pass hits Slagert in the back and tumbles into the Jet zone. The Jets get the puck back and Morrisy at the Hawk line on the left wing. Whips it down the boards. It rides around to Baron on the right side to Morsy. Left circle. He fires and Spencer Knight is down with a butterfly save and holds the puck. Whistle stops play with 1439 left in period number one. One- nothing Jets. Yeah, that took a weird bounce off the boards. Terra Viner was coming down to his own zone on the right wing boards and it just ricocheted off where the gate would be in the corner and kind of went right out to the middle ice which created the good opportunity for the Jets. Normally that just stays on the boards and Terravani can just take it and start heading the other way with it but it took a weird bounce off the uh the boards. Here’s Shley facing off against Nazar. Drop of the puck. The Hawks get possession. Matt Grizzlick behind the Hawk net. But a pass over to Tavo Terravine and lead pass now to Bertusi over the jet line left wing. Makes a behind the back pass that’s picked off in the high slot area by Shley. Back through center into the Hawk zone. Drops it off to Kyle Connor who spins it down behind the net up the far side. Shen pinching from the right point. Moves it back down behind the net. Shley took it away there from Nazar. Here’s Shiffley. Bats the puck left point. Moresy whips it now top of the far circle and Shen will fire a wrist shot that sails over the net. Puck tumbles around with the near side. held in by Shley at the left point. He whips it across the rink and now Matt Grizzlick will skate the puck ahead and flip it off of Luke Shin into the Winnipeg zone and the Hawks will get a quick line change. Yeah, we need a little bit better puck management by the Blackhawks. Couple um behind the back passes for one, but Dard with one that’s a little bit sloppy and a little bit of turnovers. Let’s see some better puck management. Here’s Cole Keepy racing down the left wing side into the Hawk zone and from the far corner spins it to the right point. Neil Pon fires and that’s turned wide. Punk got it back right point to Stanley left point fired a shot that was blocked by Andre Burkovski of the Hawks passing ahead Connor Badar Jet line moves it across the ring to Archimoff and he and Parker Ford of the Jets collide in the far corner and they battle for the puck and now puck comes free Ryan Green tries to pull it out of there falls in the corner has the puck underneath him pulled out by Logan Stanley he’ll flip it behind the Jets net to peon head to Tanner Pearson who banks the pass off the right wing boards and now they’re going to wade the icing as Kepky got to the puck and he’s checked in behind the Hawk net by his former teammate at University of Minnesota at the Luth Wyatt Kaiser. Ryan Green the other way to the Jet Blue line where he flips the puck into the zone into the near side is taken back however by Hayden Flurry of the Jets moving it ahead of Fallow down the left wing Hawk zone tried to center the puck ends up behind the net and now Nemesika feeds it out to Shen at the right point. He flips it down in front of the nets to the near corner. Blic is there for the Hawks. He’ll poke the puck in behind to Renzel. Moves it up the left wing side. Not out. Jonathan Taves picks it off of the right point. Clipped it down to the corner. Blic took the puck away. Spins it behind the net to Doc. Hawks looking a little disorganized right now. Now the puck turned over to Need Rider along the Ray board. Sent it behind the Hawks net to Taves. He moves it out to the left point where Flurry fires and this deflects up into the protective netting. One- nothing Winnipeg with 1217 left here in period number one up here in the peg. And boy, did we have a fun ride. Huh. Absolutely. When it starts to roll, it starts to roll. Inside the Hawk zone in the far corner, Kaiser slings the puck behind the net to the near corner to Louis Krebier. Rick White pass up the left wing Bard over the jet line. He had the puck, lost it, fell down, and then lost it again. And now Morgan Baron the other way to center ice for Winnipeg. He’ll flip it down in behind the Hawk net off the glass. Big hit there by Nether Rider on Blic in the corner, but Blic bends off the check. Put the puck behind the net. Murphy tried to clear it out. It bounces out in front. Valardi then misplayed the puck and the Hawks get it back. Landon Slagger at the center ice will stick the puck off the boards and deep into the Winnipeg zone behind the net. Connor Hella will play it there to Logan Stanley head to Mark Shley over the hot glue line. Cruising into the slot, he meets Alex Lassic who pulsed the puck away and the Hawks come back up ice at the at the Winnipeg line. Murphy to the puck will backhand it down the glass. Bounces out of front of it. He shoots. He scores. An empty net goal practically for Tavo Terrain. To describe it, Connor Heluck had gone in behind the Winnipeg net to play the carum and the puck took an awkward hop off the glass and bounced out in front. It was a vacant net. Terrain could have scored that goal with his eyes closed. We’re tied at one. John, I could have scored that goal with my eyes closed. That was uh Connor Murphy on his backand just tried to rim it around the glass. It hit the partition on the glass in the corner to Hleabuk’s right. Hleuck was behind the net to just have the rim come behind the net and it bounced right out to Terra Binan right in front. A fortunate bounce. A great bounce to get the get the Blackhawks going. I I got to ask you a question. Do you have the time? The time of the day? No. Do you have the time right now? Oh, I’m a rookie here, guys. With that goal, it’s time to break out. celebrate every goal this season with El Bandido Yankee Tequila. Okay, I’ll share with the audience. They wonder why I’m laughing right now. I asked Colin the question leading him to the Vandido drop. He have fun with Troy Murray doing that. Colin searching for his cell phone. He’s scrambling for something. The time you hold on the time of day. All right. 1-1 is the score. Terrain from Murphy for Tabo. That’s only his second goal on the season, but it’s a big one. Logan Stanley center ice front of the penalty boxes. Nearly had the puck stripped away, but moves it ahead to Taves. He’s over the Hawk line near the left point. Sweeps the puck across the ring. Nast misplayed it. Taken away by Ryan Green over the left shinoff near Circlehawk zone. He’ll pass up the right wing to Berusi at center ice who flips it into the jet zone. Here’s Ryan Green on Frank moving in with a backhand turned out of there by Helluk who’s lost his goal stick in behind the Jets net from the left point now. on Barakovski put it down to Bedard. left wing corner. A between the legs pass now to Green. Left circle out to the line. Left point Kaiser fires and that’s blocked out to center ice by the Jets player Parker Ford here now. Burkowski back into the jet zone. Right circle turns to get some room. Top of the circle. Burkowski fed the left point to Kaiser. He sticks it down behind the Jets net. Ryan Green there to Conor Madard. He’ll fire from the right wing halfboards high and wide of the net. Sam Renzel in the deep slot now to Madard right point. flips it. Left point now to Kaiser. He sticks it down the boards in behind the Jets net. Hayden Flurry to the puck. Stabs it out of there but lost the puck in the corner to Connor Badard to Renzel. Right point. He missed played the puck over the blue line and then flips it back down into the jet zone on a delayed offside. The teams will take advantage of this and get a line change. That was a heck of a chance by Ryan Green there. Dlo was going back to get the puck. He kind of heelpicked and just fell over and uh Greener was able to pick up the loose puck here. Right shot. He went forehand to backhand and Hlebuck made a heck of a save on the blocker. Now inside the Hawk zone, Neil Peock at the left point sent the puck down the left side boards for Valardi, but it’s over stick around to the far corner. The Hawks Jason Dickinson scrapes it up the left wing side. Colton Doc, he’ll lift the puck clear over the center ice circle and it bounces onto the stick of Pian in the jet zone. He’s chased to the near boards by Ryan Donado and eventually to center ice. Peon floats it down the left side boards and in behind the Hawk net. He’ll go get it himself. Sent the puck away to the left wing half courts. Shley there. Put it into the right the left wing corner to Punk. He flips it behind the net. The way Krebier got in front of it there from Bolardi. Sticks the puck ahead to Dickinson. He’ll clear down into the jet zone. And again, we get line changes. Yeah, Kreb does such a good job there just getting body position. He’s such a huge guy. He’s not the fastest, but he does his moves his body well for how big he is. You get body position just pokes the puck up and on the on the hunt the Hawks go. Logan Stanley at the left point sticks it off the left side boards in behind the Hawk net and Spencer Knight hit his knees and looked like he slid into the post knocking the Hawks net off of its moorings. So we get a whistle staffing play. All right, we’re tied at one here in Winnipeg with 803 left in period number one. And this is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. It’s the Boxerat Morning Zoo. Not really, but I’ve always wanted to say that. WGN. Hey. Well, folks, we left you a little prematurely. They didn’t flash the red light on because that uh play was I guess they’re going to say the puck was dumped in from center ice. It was a little confusing as one of the referees pointed at the penalty timekeeper bench to flash the light on, but they didn’t. And so now we’re playing hockey. We’ll get to the break here momentarily. Meanwhile, off the face off, the Jets control and then a sweeping shot from beside the Hawk net by Baron is gobbled up by Spencer Knight. And then the boys get together beside the net and jostle one another. And the linesman are there on the scene to break everything apart. So far, no penalties in this one. Not a ton of ill will down there, FRA, but as I like to joke around with Troy Murray, some minatory stairs and some tur looks. Now, we’ll take a break. 756 left in period number one of a 1-1 game. Happy to have all of you along for Blackhawks hockey. Hawks and the Jets in their first battle of the season. Two Central Division rivals. If the Blackhawks can win this game in regulation, they will tie the Jets in points. Conversely, if the Jets win this game, they’re going to gain two big points. And I believe, not don’t have the standings right in front of me, but they they’re going to be near the top of the central standings, if not tied with the Utah Mammoth. I don’t know if you’ve seen them play yet this year, FRA, but they’re an impressive hockey team. They’re a little bit of that same kind of rebuild mentality, a little bit ahead of the Blackhawks. Same style of play. Young players with lots of speed. Here’s Bard breaking into the jet zone on the left wing side. And he lost a tumbling puck. Cleared out the center ice by Pon. Taken back by Renzel. Had a little trouble handling the puck in front of the penalty boxes, but he did get it back and he strokes it down in behind the Jets net. Helduck wipes it into the far corner to Taves who slings the puck up the right wing side intended for a teammate but his teammate could not get to that pass and it goes all the way down and icing is the call. John, it’s time for the Who’s Hot, who’s cold. Plumbers 911 Chicago where they do it right the first time. Ryan Donado has been hot. He had four goals in four straight games and he now has six goals over his last six games. And who’s cold? It’s the New York Rangers. They’re 04 and one on home ice with only six goals, four and five of those were in one game. Having a hard time at Madison Square Garden, John and that’s just baffling to me. I know you’ve played at Madison Square Garden. What a home ice advantage there. Boy, not this year so far. Lionov fires from the right point. Jet zone kicked out of there with a right path saved by Hellabach. Here’s Nazar to the puck now near the left point to Kaiser. High slot to Terabine and to Nazar. He lets it rip from the top of the right circle that goes wide at the left point. Kaiser flips it to the right point and left tried to flip the puck down the glass. This hits the stick of Kyle Connor and tumbles up into this partisan Winnipeg crowd. And why Kaiser had the puck right in the middle of the ice and he could have taken one or two steps right down the middle and pounder one. He opted to kick it wide. Not a bad play, but if I got it right in the middle of the ice, if I’m uh if I’m him, I want to take a good hard pounding shot right at Hellbuck and test him. He’s a great goalie. You got to get pucks on him. You got to get action on him. You got to make them work. Yeah, they haven’t beaten him in this game. The goal that Terrain scored was with Hell pretty much behind his net. And it just was one of those freak plays in hockey that happens from time to time. But it does go against his goals against average and his save percentage. So, you know, if you’re a goalie, you’re kind of sensitive to those things. From the draw in the Jets zone, the Jets get the puck. Nesnikov will carry to the Hawk blue line on the right wing. Spins it to the right wing corner where a collision ensues. Need a rider and big Louis Krebier. Now, Lou Krebier to a loose puck behind the Hawk net. Hands it off to Ryan Green below the goal line near the right wing corner. He had it stroked off his stick there however by Baron but then Connor Bernard recovers in the corner to Crevier back in the net passing up the right side Burkovski. Nice outlet to Bard coming by through center breaking in over the jet line down the left wing. He put the puck through the feet of Dlo and tried to skate around him and get it but could not. It was pushed off of it and the Jets get the puck. Need a rider at the jet blue line. They’ll flip it back to Dylan Dlo in the jet zone to Moresy between the circles to Dlo on center ice on right wing in front of the benches. He’ll flip the puck down the boards behind the Hawk net around. It goes to the left wing corner. Keepy is there and then he turned the puck over to Jason Dickinson who turned it over to Tanner Pearson and then Murphy took it away to Kaiser back in the net. Then a pass up the left wing off the stick of Donado and down into the jet zone. There’s Luke Shen passing it ahead now to Kepky and then ahead now to Tanner Pearson. Hawk line on the left wing. He’ll dump the puck down to the corner. Colton Doc send fending off a check from Parker Ford. Moves the puck up the left wing side to Donado. Shot it across the rink. Wy Kaiser will settle it down. A carry to center ice. Bank pass ahead for Donado. Misses. Goes down beside the Jets net. Luke Shen’s got it there and he’ll backhand the puck ahead to center ice. Hawk captain Nick Felinino back to take it back into the Hawk zone. Give the puck to Sam Renzel. Over to Matt Gri to Ryan Donado front of the Hawks bench. He spins the puck into the Jet zone. The Jets get possession. 420 left in period number one here in Winnipeg. We’re tied at one. Puck is spun down ice by Hayden Flurry and down behind the Hawk net. Grizzlick with a short pass ahead to Slagger. Another quick pass to Renel through center over the jet line near the right point. A little toe and a shot goes wide. Vertusi lets one rip from the left boards that goes wide. Renzel is shot from the right point deflected just wide by Slagger. Good traffic in front of Helle there. I like how they’re putting pucks on net there. Didn’t necessarily hit the net but they had three put at Hollowuck. If we put them on the net and make them work. We’re going to get an icing call here to the Jets and Vladislav Nestnikov who had a father by the same name by the way. They called him John Nesnikov. He was in the American Hockey League at the time. but he was tied up right in front of the Jets bench as that puck sailed by. He’s looking at both referees and the linesman as if to say, “I can’t believe you didn’t call interference in some way on that.” They’re always looking for We’re always looking for calls, aren’t we? Absolutely. Well, here’s two former teammates about to face off. Tabbo Terrain and Jonathan Taves. They were teammates on the 2015 Stanley Cup team. Faceoff circle to Helle’s right and Tavo wins the draw. Played out to the left point. Vlic to left off right point back to Vlic left point snaps it toward the net deflects over top and up into the protective netting. Another good shot. Uh good traffic in front. I like Oh, commercial. One of the stats I want to share with the listeners, Colin, is the fact that we’re seeing two of the better teams, two of the best teams in the NHL in so far as first period goals are allowed. Now, the Jets are the top team in the league. They’ve only allowed three first period goals. The Blackhawks are in a fiveway tie for second. They’ve allowed five first period goals. And people say, well, you know, people hear, they may cite these stats and they might be thinking, well, come on, Whiteitman. And that that’s minutia. Well, it really isn’t because if you’re a hockey team, you want to get that lead early and not have to chase the score. As you can see, you certainly don’t want to chase the game cuz it’s a long crawl back sometimes when you are, especially when you’re on the road. I mean, if you can do that on the road, that’s enormous. Here’s Bertusi with the puck in the right wing corner. Jets in, swaps it to Terrain and along the right board. to Krevier right point to Blic left point put it over to Terrain and in the right wing circle he found on a shotley to the puck back of the net put it over to the far corner to Gabe Balardi former LA King will flip it in behind the net again Dylan DLO with a pass now ahead here’s Shley breaking into the Hawk zone on a two-1 break put it over to Balardi he shoots and scores you can’t give up the outnumber break especially to those two players make it look easy Mark Shley’s got beautiful hands for such a big Man, Krebier was in pinching in at the near blue line trying to break up the play and it was just Kyle Connor just touched it over to Mark Shley to go on the clearcut two-on-one. He slid it over to Gabe Bolardi on the right side and no chance for Spencer Knight. One of those mistakes that you can’t really have, especially with three minutes left in the first period. Um, giving up an odd number rush against the top line is not how you want it to go, John. No. for Gabe Valardi. That’s his third on the season from Mark Schiffley at 1656 of period number one. Little frustrating as the team had played so well up to that point with a long way to go. Back inside the Hawk zone in behind the net. Conor Bernard is hit, knocked off the puck and then Baron is rocked with a body check there by Renzel. Ryan Green takes the front for the Hawks. Hands it ahead. Wyatt Kaiser center ice on the left wing side front of the Jets bench. He’ll send it down in behind the jets net. Stanley fends off a check from Burkovski but turn the puck over. Renzel right point to Kaiser left point to Connor Badard. Right circle a tow drag and a shot and that hit Logan Stanley perched next to his net and he’s going to head to the Jets bench. That one hit him on the side of the knee. Yeah, they Hawks are doing a good job of spreading out in the old zone. DDD wide and then back across the green back to Bedard. He got everything on that shot and it just hit Stanley in the back of the leg. It look like at center ice dumps the puck to the left wing corner. Jet zone slides behind the net. Hellabuk gave it a poke over to Luke Shen. He’ll move it up the right side to center ice. Ryan Donado at the hot blue line takes the puck to Murphy along the right side boards Hawk line. He shot the puck ahead for Jason Dickinson. And the linesman on the near side of the rink is going to rule that this missed Dickinson stick. He’s talking to one of the game referees here on the way back into the Hawk zone as if to say, “No, I I touched that with the end of my stick blade.” Yeah, the Black Blackhawks that an unfortunate goal against they played a good period. They’ve only given up five shots on net. You were just talking about the first period goals against John only given up five all season and would have been nice to be 1-1 against the Jets who are a good team the first game of the road trip and it’s just that one little mistake to give up the twoon-one and and they make you pay. Good teams make you pay. Jets are 63% in faceoff win percentage here now. Morrisy creeping to the top of the left circle sends one in front off of stick. Kyle Connor against the Farbors. Hit by Dickinson who then moves the puck ahead to Donado. He’ll chip it down ice into the jet zone. Delo back between the circles to get it to Valardi left wing center ice in front of the penalty timekeepers bench. He turned the puck over. Ryan Donado to Colton Dock. Back to Donado. Enters the jet zone with a tow drag. We get a whistle. Offside is the call against the Hawks. Yeah, that Dzone draw. Morsy had all kinds of time to take it from the boards down the slot almost right in front. He’s looking for Valardi back door. But what happened off the face off is Donado’s the winger slashing through and Morsey’s essentially his guy, but he got picked by Valardi on the inside of the faceoff uh circle to the left of of Spencer Knight. Borderline interference for me, but uh it gave Morsy a lot of time to make a play. Well, one former Hawk captain against one current Hawk captain on the faceoff just outside the Jets line. The Jets get possession now in the Hawk zone. Nesnikov along the right board. put it to the line. Pian to Stanley left point. Pounds a shot that goes wide. The Mesnikov got it back in the right wing corner to Jonathan Taves near the corner. Tried to center the puck. Landon Slagert broke that up. Moves the puck back into the corner. Afallo got it back to Taves beside the net. Flipped it in front. It’s past the stick of Nomestnikov and then Stanley hammers one in from the left wing side. That’s off the blocker of Knight. Here’s TA wrapping it around through the crease to the near boards taken by Ryan Green. outlets to center ice pass. Just misses Slagger. Haves has it back. 40 seconds left in the period. Haves will flip the puck back into the jet zone over to Pon who whips it across on the left wing side to Stanley. He’ll send it ahead into the Hawk zone and this misses its intended target Baron. And then Madard slots it away up the left wing side. Nazar breaking back through center with 25 over the jet line. Leaves it in the slot. Bard fires and a butterfly save made by Helle. What a great chance there. The Dar’s got that snap shot going today. He’s had three good looks with that shot. That was a really good look. Grizzlick rocks need a rider with a hip check into the boards and off the puck. Grizzlick takes it away. 8 seconds left in the frame. Badard to center. Breaks into the jet zone with four from the left wing corner. Put it in front for Nazar who redirects the puck on goal and it’s turned out of there by Hell. And at the end of the play, Nazar was shoveled into the inboards and practically hit face first. And the horn sounds ending period number one. These are a little slow to get back to his feet, but he’s got the good fortune of youth being on his side. So, I would think he’ll just go into the dressing room now after the period, get some fluids, and be back for period number two. Brush it off, take a breather, get a rest, and get back at her. Does anybody in the dressing room ever say, “Rub some dirt on it, kid.” Like that. Just Just rub some dirt on it. You’ll be fine. Brent Sutter used to tell me, “It’s a long ways from the heart, kid. That’s the line he would use. All right. Well, FRA, 20 minutes in the books. The Jets lead it two to one. U just want to get your general thoughts on the way that the team played here. I think I think uh they had a slowish start. Not that they were giving up a ton of chances against, but a slowish start where the ice was a little bit tilted and Winnipeg kind of had the play, had the ozone, had the momentum a little bit and then Tavine scored that goal and it kind of uh brought them to life. He scored that empty net goal that ricocheted off the partition and bounced out in front um for the tap and it was 1-1. I thought they had a good push on there and they had a couple good looks. Ryan Green had the breakaway, but Tards had a couple good looks from the uh right faceoff circle with his patented snapshot that he’s unable to uh to get to fall and Hella made a couple good saves and then they really made just the one mistake for me. Um, Krebier tried to pinch up on the near blue line to keep the play alive and it squirted by him and Shley and Valardi went in on the twoon-one and you know, one mistake against a good team like this and they they make you pay the price and they go up 2-1. I I think if you were 1-1 going into the second period, you’d be feeling really good about yourself on the road. Um, only giving up five shots against. I I thought their period was good. You’d probably want that second goal back, but uh they did a good job. Well, seven and five were the shots in favor of the Blackhawks. They they did get one goal out of the seven. Winnipeg’s a better shooting percentage for sure. Two goals on five shots. But nonetheless, what it says to me is that the Blackhawks are limiting the Jets chances. Whether that be through block shots with the stick or forcing a pass that that they don’t want to make or creating a scenario where they turn the puck over in your offensive and you’re in your your defensive zone for Winnipeg with them being in their offensive zone. But what I’m trying to say is by limiting the shots, you also can limit the score, which they have. It’s only two to one after 20. Yeah. And they didn’t give up really any great A’s chances at all. And the and the two that they did were goals in the back of the net. It was um the first one on the power play. Uh it was kind of a bang bang play off the rush. Uh outnumbered, kind of slid one into the slot and um Knight didn’t have a chance. It went low blocker. And then even the second one on the twoon-one, I mean it’s uh a nice really nice pass by Mark Shley. I mean you can see why he’s uh leads the Winnipeg Jets all time in scoring. Um first round pick. He’s he’s a wonderful player and he made that look really easy and there’s not much Spencer could have done on that second goal either. Kyle Connor picked up the second assist on that goal. All right, after 20 minutes here in Winnipeg, it’s the Jets two and the Hawks one. We’re going to send it back to the station where Charlie Romelotus is going to have a full intermission report and Colin will ride shotgun through part of that as well. Then second period action will follow along. This is the period that statistically the Hawks really need to get to work on. They do pretty well in the first periods, but second periods have been their bane in some games this season and uh hopefully we’ll see a difference here tonight. 2-1 Winnipeg after one. Winnipeg scored the first goal in that first period. Hawks countered with Table Terrain, the maybe the easiest goal that he’ll score all season. And then that late one in the third. Those are always the the momentum killers. And so hopefully Chicago can bounce back in the second period from that one. The uh current odds according to Circuit Sports Illinois, the Winnipeg Jets were minus 165 to score the first goal of the game and they did just that. The Hawks went into this game having scored the first goal in eight of 10 games this season. So, a rare uh non-first goal by the Blackhawks. Download your new bookie today at circasports.com. Former Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane will miss his sixth straight game with an upper body injury. Other NHL news, Colorado superstar Marty Nas signed an 8-year 92 million extension earlier today. 11.5 million cap hit. 60.4 of those 92 point of 92 million is in signing bonuses and the first seven years of the deal he’s got a full no movement clause. So a big deal for Marty Nes who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer but he is off the market. Elsewhere in sports the Baltimore Ravens I believe just scored another touchdown. The Hawks are trailing the Winnipeg Jets 2 to1 as they start a sixgame road trip. It’s a season long for for the Blackhawks. So, this is going to be a grueling one both in the with the the late starts, but also with all the travel and um I think it’s the it’s for for the Blackhawks. They’re going to be playing a lot of teams on this uh road trip are playoff type teams or teams that are pushing for uh Stanley Cup this year and it starts in Winnipeg obviously with uh with with the Jets and and they are no joke. This is a really good team. Um the I’m looking at some of the numbers in that first period. Jonathan Taves won six of eight draws. I believe Frank Nazar won the first two against him, but they credited the the second one to Taves. So, we have a little home cooking going on right now. But I thought Nazar got off to a good start in the faceoff circle against Johnny. The Hawks the the scoring chances I believe at one point in that first period early on I think they were three to nothing Winnipeg at even strength but the final total for the first period according to Natural Statrick at even strength is 9 to7 in favor of Chicago. So I thought Winnipeg had their legs moving early. Chicago had some sloppy puck management in the first few minutes of the game. It took him a while to get into it, but I felt like the the Blackhawks really settled in as the uh the first period went on. That that late goal by Gabe Valardi, that really hurts that those are momentum killers. We talk about the end of the period goals, especially Chicago, you take a 1-1 tie into the first intermission to kick off a long road trip. I think that it’s a good solid road start, but Winnipeg tilts the ice back in their favor. They they get that momentum going into the intermission. So, the Hawks, uh, Connor Halabuk is arguably the best goalender in the entire world. Um, maybe not in the playoffs, but in the regular season, he is. And so, it’s going to be hard to get some pucks past him. So, the Hawks are are really going to have to uh find a a way to get if they’re going to win this game, they’re going to have to score at least three. So, that’s going to be a tough a tough task. I thought Connor Bard was noticeable in that first period. He ends up with four shot attempts. Two of them hit the net. And I remember talking to to Jeff Blasto, I think it was last week or or maybe a couple weeks ago, he was talking about Baddard’s shot and it feels like every time he has that sling that that slingshot of a shot that the tow drag move, it maybe sometimes it doesn’t go in, although the the first three did. Um, maybe some of them, the ones that don’t find the back of the net, it the goalenders have a hard time corelling. So it felt like Connor Baddard, I think on that last chance you saw the on the the Frank Nazar play. Uh Nazar getting it over to to Bard had a hard time cleaning swallowing up that puck cleanly. So I thought Conra picked up where he left off from the last game where he had a hat-tick and four points. So uh we got one more break. Up next, the second period. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your recap. Blackhawks and Jets are on the on the ice for the start of the second period. Winnipeg scored twice in that first period. The Hawks scored once and it was Tabo Terrain and arguably might be the easiest goal he’ll score all season for his second of the year. Logan Stanley head to Mark Shley over the hot glue line cruising into the slot. He meets Alex Lassic who pulsed the puck away and the Hawks come back up ice at the Winnipeg line. Murphy to the puck will backhand it down the glass. Bounces out of frontan’s got it. He shoots. He scores. An empty net goal practically for Tabo Terrainan to describe it. Connor Halabuck had gone in behind the Winnipeg net to play the carum and the puck took an awkward hop off the glass and bounced out in front. It was a vacant net. Terravine could have scored that goal with his eyes closed. We’re tied at one. They don’t ask how, they ask how many. Let’s head back over to Winnipeg with what’s on deck is sponsored by Timbertech decking and railing. Number one in premium decking order. Free samples at timbertech.com as we send it back over to John and Troy. I don’t know if I could have scored with my eyes closed, but did I say John Troy? Colin. Colin Colin. I even I could have scored that one, guys. You would have You’d have gone top shelf, Raz, you’d have made it look good, right? With a big Sally after, too, for sure. Charlie, are you a left or right-handed shot? I have to ask you. I’m left. Lefty. Okay. Yep. All right. I guess I’m the only righty in the bunch, you know. Right-handed shot down defenseman. What can I say? You know, got a little backhander going. It’s a lot of fun. All right. Thank you, Charlie. Thank you. Well, here we go at the second period. Daves will face off with Frank Nazar to get it started. The drop of the puck and we’re underway and the Hawks get possession again. Back in the Hawks on Louis Krebier. That’s a pass up the right side. Tyler Bertusi front of the benches at center ice and he deflects the puck in behind the Jets. Helab turned it over for a moment but then spat it out of there with his stick. Nestnikov along the farboards. Hit lost the puck for to Kaiser at the line. Shot it off the inboards. Terrain and plays the puck to the right wing boards and Kreb there will spin it back in behind Vertusi now to Terrain and left circle to Kaiser at the line in the deep slot. Bats it over to the right wing corner. Bertusi here’s Bertusi on the half courts to Nazar in the right wing corner. He is checked from behind with a cross check from Peock and went down and no penalty is called. The Jets get possession of the puck. I think that’s one the referees missed there Colin. Yeah, especially based on that first one against Doc on the first shift of the game in the first period. Carviden back into the jet zone left point. Flings the puck over to the right wing corner. Jason Dickinson battling there with Logan Stanley who was a little too vigorous on this poke of the puck. It ends up all the way down the ice and icing is going to be the call here. The just now you look down on the ice. The five that started the period for Winnipeg are still on there after a minute and three. A little bit tired and out comes Bedard Berkovski. and Ryan Green. Ryan Green taking these faceoffs as a right shot. Connor’s going to be taking them as a left shot on his backhand side. Ryan Green on his right side, as a right shot, is going to take these ones. So, they’re always on their strong side in hopes that they have better odds to win the draw. And it was a defensive zone draw. Naturally, Jonathan Taves was able to win that one. He is second in the NHL in faceoff wins. The Jets get control. I a foul to center ice and a messnikov over the hawk line to taves top of the right circle comes it in on goal and a glove save is made by Spencer Knight who holds on. Not only did he win that one John, he won that right back to the corner. He made it look pretty easy. The sav savvy vet who’s been notorious for being a good faceoff man and he he does it with such ease for me. I I played center and I’d be bearing down there on my toes like twitching and twitching and like I have to win this and Johnny just stands there and snaps it back like it’s nothing. FR, did you choke down on your stick toward the blade? Like your one hand and then your your top hand come down to like a third of the way down the shaft. Absolutely. Try to be strong. There’s 185 pounds. So going up against Taser, a 200 pounder, it’s tough. You’re giving up weight all the time. So trying to get that leverage. Now the Hawks clear their end off the draw. Dickinson in front of the penalty boxes. Whips the puck down behind the Jets net. Helle out to play it to the near corner to Dlo. He can’t clear the zone. Donado took the puck away along the left boards. Put it out to N to excuse me, Renzel. He fires from the right point. That was blocked on the way in. Renzel to the puck along the right half boards. Chops the puck down toward the corner, but Kyle Connor clears to center ice. Here’s Connor with the puck into the Hawk zone. Connor to Shley right circle. Shoots. He scores. Boy, this is one that Spencer Knight want back for sure. Knight was in position to make the save. He was down in the butterfly position, but the puck just leaked through him into the back of the Hawk net and it’s now 3-1 in favor of the Jets. Yeah, and it always seems like it’s always the top player, the goal scorers that get those goals. Spencer Knight definitely wants that one back. It just kind of leaked through him. Uh really a routine play and a routine shot off the rush. Kyle Connor just kicked it wide to the right side to Shley. Shley being a right shot. He’s kind of just at the top of the circles and just put one on net. the oldfashioned put it on net and anything can happen and it just happened to squeak through uh Spencer Knight. I’m not sure if it went under his glove or through the five hole, but it wasn’t a particularly bullet of a shot or a very accurate shot. It was just a lucky goal to say the least. Well, it’s number nine on the season for Mark Schiffley from Kyle Connor and the goal at 154 of period number two makes it 3-1 in favor of the Jets. We return to the play in the Hawk zone. Connor Badard knocks the puck off Tanner Pearson stick. Then Pearson took it back from the left wing boards. Tried to center the puck. This deflects through to the near side in the Hawk zone. Grizzlick’s got the puck for the Hawks over to Murphy. Passing up the left wing center ice to Bard. He’s over the jet line. Stopping at the point sends it across to the right wing boards. Bakoski to Murphy. High slot. Fires a wrist shot in on goal and the blocker save made by Helle at the left point. Grizzlick down to Bernard. Left circle to the slot. Barosski and he fires one just high and wide. Murphy along the right board, sends the puck in front of the net. It’s off Green stick. Barosski took the puck back in the right wing corner and then is felled with a body chuck from Morgan Baron, but the puck now taken back by the Hawks Green behind the net. Then he had it stripped off his stick by Dylan Dlo and the Jets defenseman will move it out to center ice to the Hawk blue line. Off need a rider stick. Murphy took it back to Green to Baroski into the Jet zone to the right half boards. He had the puck stripped away by Morrisy and the Jets defenseman will nudge it off the near glass to center ice. Kaiser front of the penalty box is firing it back down the left boards in behind the Jets net. Big check there by Colton Doc on Dlo, but Dlo clears the puck to center ice. Archim left firing it back down the right side boards into the jet zone. Nick Finino from the left wing side passing behind the net. Colton Doc flips it in front of the net and the puck is picked off by Shley and as he does the whistle blows. Penalty coming up here to the Jets. Here’s why. Too many men on the ice. Oh, the Hawks catch a break there, John. I didn’t even notice that. They must had an early change earlier in the shift as the Blackhawks had possession in the Ozone. I I like the rebound shift from Baddard and then uh Bard’s line and then Fello’s line as well uh after the goal. A good answer back. Bard hit Bowski in the slot there for a really nice look. He just missed the net slightly wide to Hellabuk’s left. Um, you know, they could have folded it. They could have kind of quit, whatever you want to call it. And they answered back with two good shifts back to back and then earn the the power play chance here. U big opportunity here to get themselves back in this game. There’s still lots of time left. Two minutes for too many men on the ice and the Hawks get their second sitco power play on the night. We’ll get to the drop just a second. Here’s Conor Madard firing from the right circle off the post. Madard got it back. Number two, left corner to Veracoski left point to the deep slot. Renzel to Vertusi left circle kicks it to the left half boards. Veroski tried to center the puck. Picked off by Tanner Pearson who will turn and clear the puck all the way down. This is a Sitco power play. Score savings on every Phillip with Club Sitco. Download the app now to start saving. Veroski does such a good job of coming downhill on that left side being a left shot and then hitting the scene to Baddard as a right shot on the right side. Baddard had that another good look. He’s had three or four good looks from there, John, at the top of the circles and he put that one off the outside of the post. He’s he’s sniffing. He’s looking for it and he’s had a couple good chances. Here’s Renzel to center ice. Hands the puck to Nazar Jets line, but as they crisscross, they lost the puck to center ice. Connor breaks back into the Hawk zone short-handed to the left wing with a tow drag and a shot that’s over the net around the glass and down ice into the jet zone. And now Peock back to take the puck and he’ll clear it up to right boards and down. Knight has to wait for the puck to get into the trapezoid before playing it behind the Hawknet. And he sends the puck over to Frank Nazar now between the circles. Left shinoff. He’ll carry to center ice. 42 seconds on the power play. Left firing it down the right side boards in behind the jets net around to the left wing side. got a back left point. Moves the puck over to Ryan Green along the right half boards into the corner to Nick Felino back of the net. Sticks it out to Donado. Left point. He’ll close into the left circle. Put it over right circle. Terrain. That pass handcuffed him a bit, but he sticks it in behind the net to Felino to Donado. Left wing corner to Green. Put it to the line. Left Shinoff to Green. Top of the left circle. Sends it over to the right point. Terrain to Donado. Top of the left circle. He’ll move in and fire him. That’s off the side of the stick of Hella Buck and wide. 7 seconds left on the power play. Terrain and from the right circle. Feeds the puck over to the left wing boards. Donado is hit but kept the puck alive to Green to the high slot. Lean off closing in. He’ll fire. That’s blocked. The Jets come to full strength. And now at the right point, Kaiser takes the puck. Put it down to the corner. Picked off by the Jets. Kept moving. Head to center ice. Baron off the hawk line on the right wing. He drops it into the high slot. Picked off by Green. Head to Donado to Felinino over the jet line to the slot then to the right circle. He sent it in front of the net. Picked off by Dlo. Dylan Dlo to center and Ryan Donado has tripped at the Jets blue line. No penalty is called. He swaps the puck over to Kaiser and he’ll fire it off the left sideboards and in behind the Jet net to the right wing corner. Jason Dickinson there to get Dickinson back to the halfworks trying to shake the check of Alex Aalo. Dickinson back of the net leaving it for Colton Doc. Doc in the left wing corner. Checked into the glass from behind by Dlo but fights through the check. Not a loose puck. Dlo tried to stick it out of his own. Dickinson kept it alive. Left wing corner to Doc and Doc and I a foul tie up. Doc sweeps it around to Kreb along the right board. Back down the to the corner to Doc. Back to Krebier right point. Sends it left point. Kaiser posts it off the inboards and this bounces into the far corner. by a foul for the Jets. Got hold of it to Dlo in front of his net. He angles a pass up ice and it hit Kaiser stick and deflects up into the Jets bench. It’s now 3-1 Winnipeg with 1316 left in period number two up here in the peg. John Whiteidman along with Colin Frasier, Stanley Cup champion Colin Frasier. Cups with the Blackhawks and the LA Kings back back when the Hawks were going head-tohead with the Kings. Those were great years. You think about it, Colin. You had a great career. You’re a very fortunate kid and just a hardworking kid from Western Canada and things turned out pretty well, I think. Well, thank you. I can’t complain. Right place at the right time with a little bit of played with some good players and and had a lot of fun doing it and played for some great coaches as well. Now at the Jet Blue line, Tyler Bertusi at the right point snaps it down in front of the net, but Peock picks it off for the Jets over to Stanley. Then a pass up the right wing. Taves at center ice flips it down the glass and in behind the jet net into the far corner. Ayafallow and Berusi battle for the puck. Aalis slots it free but Conor Murphy got hold of the puck sticks it up the right side to Nazar in front of the benches and he may not have cleared the center ice red strike before sending it down but the linesman on the near side’s going to wade the icing anyway passing up the right side taves at center ice pack hands the puck through the air into the far corner Hawk zoneier tried to clear the zone but it’s picked off by Connor to Aafalo back in the net walks out with a wrapound that’s turned out of there now by Knight and Green will hand the puck to Connor Bernard at center ice to Burkovoski cuts in over the Jets line then lost the puck off a Pope check. Jets get it back. Dlo at the Winnipeg line passing on the right wing to Shley at center ice and he touches the puck into the Hawk zone but Krebier got it back. Head to Burkoski. Rick White pass Green over the jet line near the left point. Drop pass to Burkosski carrying down to the corner. He sent it across and this ends up on Green Stick of the right point to Bedard. Then to Burkowski, right wing corner sends it left point. Blic put it in front. Oh, deflects off the stick of Green. It handcuffed him a little bit. He’s wide open. John, here’s Bedard to the puck behind the net. Parries to the left wing side. Hands it off to Blastic left point and he snaps one wide. Renzel along the right boards. Put it down right circle. Baroski to the slapardi shoots. Glove save made my hella buck. And he’ll hold on. Boy, what a great sequence there. The Blackhawks controlled play in the jet zone there for about 45 seconds, Colin. And they manufactured some pretty decent chances. Yeah, this line’s been good all night. I mean, Connor Bard, he had five looks at the net in the first period. He’s had at least three this period. Uh he’s getting his chances. He’s putting pucks on net at a volume. They’re going to fall eventually. Veroski’s he does such a good job of making plays and finding players. He’s not a guy that’s rugged or or rough, but he’s a guy that has good skill and good heads up play and he’s always looking to make those seam plays and find guys late. He’s done a good job of it tonight. We’re going to get an icing call here against the Jets as uh they got hold of the draw. Hayden Flurry shot it off the glass and down. Yeah, I The Hawks are down 3-1, but it doesn’t feel like a 3-1 game. Is that fair to say? I mean, they the Knight wants the one goal back. they make a mistake on the other goal. And against good teams, they find those ways to to make you pay on those one-off mistakes that you make. Overall, I feel like they played a good game. The score doesn’t reflect how they’ve played. Well, the draw circle to the left of Helabuk and it’s going to be Nazar winning the draw back to the right point to Lechoff. Put the puck to the right half board to Bertusi. Checked by Flurry, a former Red Deer Rebel. And now Lefchov got it back at the right point to Bertusi at the line. fires a shot and it was blocked out to center ice by Parker Ford who breaks into the Hawk zone with it down the slot and he’s defended on the play. Never got a clean shot away. It’s turned out of there by Knight anyway as the puck just sort of slid in on it. Flurry in the far corner in the Jet Zone takes the puck away from Nazar. Nazar may have injured himself a bit. He heads to the Hawks bench hobbling a bit as the puck is shot back into the Jet zone by Grizzly to the far corner. Flurry there will pass behind the net. Luke Shen shot it ahead to center ice and then diving as Krebier to slot it back into the jet zone but Shen will drag it out. Former first round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Turn the puck over to the Hawk blue line. Donado hands it off to Colton Doc racing into the jet zone to the left wing corner. Put it back intended for Donado but he lost the puck to Taves and then Dickinson took it back from Taves at the left wing. All he can do is spin it down the boards a bit. picked off by Pian of the Jets. He sends the puck into the Hawk zone. Krebier will clear it ahead to Donado at center ice. He crosses the Jets line to the left circle to Doc now behind the net. Worked it free into the far corner, but Nestnikov took it away for the Jets. Now need to rider will carry to center. Hands it to Peon over the Hawk line to Taves near the top of the right circle. Turning away from Blic and Taves is sent into the boards there by Blic. Nick Finino’s got the puck and he breaks back the other way across the jet line down the left wing to the corner. He’ll slap it in behind the net around the Nazar along the right sideboards. The stick was tied up and the puck flows free in the far corner. Stanley got it there. The peon back of the net. He carried to the near corner. Put it back in behind. Stanley tried to clear kept in by Renzel. Right point moves top of the circle tried to get a tow drag and a shot away and need to rider poke texts the puck away. This is spun down ice into the hawk in the teams are making line changes. Brunzel did a great job of reading the play and stepping up in front of the winger and picking that puck off. He did the old curl and drag. He just lost the handle on it. He almost pulled it off and would have had a really good look if he did. Shley back the other way into the hawk zone stopping beside the left wing circle against the boards now at the left point. Sends it over right point. Moresy to Dlo right corner to Balardi in the slot. He shoots and scores. And for Gabe Valardi, that’s his second goal on the night. is fourth overall. The goal at 11/19 of period number two makes it 4-1 Winnipeg. There’s that top line again, John. They’ve scored every goal against the Blackhawks. Uh that was Dlo to Valardi in in the slot. Dlo’s going down the right wing corner to the left of Knight and he makes a nice play to F3. Valard’s kind of hanging out right in the slot area as F3 and the Blackhawks were kind of in position but nobody had them. They were around him but nobody was on him and he just kind of pops out and gets loose on Blic and Blic just misses on the stick check and he shoots it low blocker on Spencer Knight. A wellplaced shot by Gabe Valardi for his second of the night. Valardi from Dlo and Morsy the goal at 1119 4-1 in favor of the Jets. The Hawks are back at it again. Bernard from the Hawk line passing ahead on the left wing side. Ryan Green at center ice. He had the puck pulled off his stick Morgan Baron the other way into the hawk zone from the right point. Spins it in front of the net. Tumbles through to the far corner. Murphy runs into Baron there. The puck is sent behind the net into the near corner. Wyatt Kaiser will carry it out. Move it ahead at center ice, but this is taken back by the Jets. Cole Keepy who then fires it all the way down the ice and icing will be the call here against the Jets. Yeah, I think the young Blackhawks team is getting a little bit of a a lesson from this veteran laden Winnipeg Jets team. I wouldn’t say they’re dominating the play or really taking it to them or overly taking it to them, but they’re certainly making the most of their opportunities and the most of their chances. And um top line, Shley, Valardi, Connor, and Connor hasn’t scored yet, but he’s factored in a couple of the goals. And they just seem to it’s not like they’ve had sustained pressure. It’s just like they just seem to like they get those bang bang plays and boom, they’re in the back of the net before you can even blink. They’re good players and they’re good good line. Now the puck is picked off off the draw by Nazar. turn at the top of the right circle. He snaps a shot in on goal and a six save made by Hella Pearson the other way to center ice to the Hawk blue line where he turns the puck over to Grizzlick. He put the puck behind the Hawk net left passing to center ice. Here’s Bertusi into the jet zone to Terrain and along the left course to Grizzlick left circle fire stopped in front. Loose puck and Nazar jams it toward the net and Hellabuk recovers from the right post to the left to keep that out of there. And then Lechoff can’t hold the puck in at the right point. It slides to center ice, but a penalty is going to be called here to the Jets. Artim Lefinoff with the puck now behind the Hawks. Empty net. Delayed penalty right here. Lechoff with the puck. Little hand off now to Grizzlick in the near corner. Burkosski, the extra skater out there for the Hawks along with Connor Baddard. Here’s Burkosski carrying the puck to center to Badard cutting through center ice over the jet line down the right wing with some speed. He runs into Logan Stanley and sends the puck down behind the net. Touched by Peon and as he does the whistle blows. A Hawk power play coming up here in just a moment. 706 left in period number two. 4-1 in favor of the Jets. Let’s get the call as to why the penalty was assessed. One back 64 Mon cross check. Yeah, that happened on the scrum in front. The puck squirted to Nazar and he just missed it. Hopped over his stick. Now Logan Stanley slashes his stick against the glass at the penalty box and he’s given a warning by referee Eric Furlot. All right, Hawk power play when we return. 4-1 Winnipeg with 706 left in the second. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. WGN radio news at the top and bottom of the hour. WGN. Hawks control off the draw. Connor Bard in the right corner. Denise our right circle fires into it on goal and a butterfly save is made by Connor Hella. That was a heck of a play. That was very similar to the Winnipeg Jets fourth goal. Bard was coming down the right wing boards as a right shot. He gets it to the corner. Nazar pops to the slot. Bedard hits Nazar right in the slot and he had a good shot, but Hellabuk just squeezed and held on to the puck. Hawks need to be careful here on this power play. In every power play against the Jets, the Jets lead the NHL in short-handed goals with two. They’re very good at manufacturing short-handed chances. Off the draw, Connor Bernard right corner sent it right through the crease. Spartusi was at the top of the crease trying to deflect it home. Puck goes wide. Hawks get it back. Baddard in the right wing circle now. Then to the right wing corner, leaves it behind is back to the right circle. Nazar. Nazar drops it in the right corner. Bard chased up the boards. Bard now outnumbered by a couple of jets. Lost the puck. Baron chops it off the boards to center ice. And here comes Cole Kepky to get to the puck. Angling to the Hawk N. He leaves it in the crease and it’s stroked out of there with a six save by Spencer Knight. the very thing I was talking about. It’s almost like they heard you and knew what you were saying. Here’s Bertusi into the Jets on left point. Dazar, top of the right wing circle, sent it across to the top of the left circle. It was intended for Barakovski, but the Jets player Nesnikov got in there with the stick. Now Renzel with a pass ahead into the Jet zone. Here’s Burkoski. A shot from the top of the left circle that deflects wide. Bertusi was in front of the net creating a screen. Nar right point. Put it down in behind the Jets net. intended for Bertusi, but this is picked off by the veteran defenseman Luke Shen. And he’ll fire it all the way down. Yeah, I want to see the Hawks move the puck a little bit quicker. Connor got caught kind of holding on to it a little bit too long. Almost like they twoon one him and they were able to get the puck off a stick and send it down the ice. Move it quicker, make them chase you a little bit. Ryan Green into the jet zone to the right wing corner. He’s checked but left the puck along the inboards. Terrain digs it out to Green to Lein off right point. He mishandled the puck there and Pearson knocks it ahead to Ayal who then lost the puck at the Hawk blue line to Archimov. 7 seconds left on the power play. The Hawks are in their last rush. Ryan Green’s going to lead it to center. Got it ahead to Nado over the jet line to Green left point to Felino right circle with the high left shoots and a blocker save made by Halabuk. And the puck looked like it deflected into the netting and came back into play Colin. But that’s not how the people on the ice, the officials saw it as now Nick Felino plays it off the boards and deep into the Hawk zone. Idle leave the puck behind the net to Kaiser. Kaiser with a lead pass to Dock at center ice to Dickson over the jet line. Left wing firing a shot blocker save made by Hellobier now at the right point. Takes the puck back. Snaps it down the glass behind the net. Kaiser on the left wing half boards. Put it down in behind the net intended for Landon Slagard. He is checked. lost the puck and the Jets get it back. Aiden Flurry banks a pass off the left boards. This ends over the hot glue line. Krabby got it there to Nazar ahead to slaged over the jet line to Doc Circle to Nazar. Left wing corner back pass to the line to Vlic. He’ll skate it down the left wing side. Lassic in behind the Jets net now. Lic around to the right half boards. Send it across. It hit Nazar in the foot and ricochets away. And Valardi will now take the puck for the Jets. Head to Shley crossing the Hawk line left point. He’s immediately smothered with a check from Lassic, but Dlo got it back. He fires. Oh, that hit the post and then Light lays down in the goal crease and covers the loose puck with his blocker hand. We get a whistle stopping play. Near Rider was right there to try and poke that rebound home, but could not. Nether standing right in front of Knight and Dlo stepped into a nice shot. Low blocker off the post kind of sitting in behind Knight and Nether Rider did a good job in front. borderline close to oh boy could have been interference. And looked like Donado got a stick in there, deflecting that one up into the protective netting. So, the whistle stops play. We were at two to one after one period for us. And the Jets have come out and scored two second period goals and put the Hawks in a bit of a hole here. They’re certainly making the most of their opportunities. You give them a chance, they put it in the back of the net, they make it look easy. Um, I mean, the Shifley Valardi Connor line, sorry, Kyle Connor line. And then Dlo’s been excellent on the back end, too. Jumping into the play, being part of the offense, uh, making it look easy this veteran. Off the drum. Morsy into the left circle. Hawk zone. Clips one in front of the net. Slides through into the near corner. Lic put a bear hug on Shley from behind, pushing him off the puck. Murphy tried to clear it out. Valardi took it away and he’ll fire from the right circle. A blocker save made by Knight. Colton Doc, who came into the game sixth overall in hits in the NHL, put his backside into one of the jets in the far corner. Stripped the puck away, put it behind the net. Now Doc again in the far corner. This is the Hawks fourth line facing the Jets top line. Puck is spun by Felino behind the net around to Donado on the left wing side and he’ll now move it over and Murphy will skate the center ice with the puck from in front of the Hawks bench. He’ll dump it down to the right wing corner and in behind the Jets net. It’s in Ryan Donado skates there. Morrisy pulls it out of the pile. Veroski took the puck away along the left board. Jets in to Bedart. He’ll just backhanded down the dasher in behind the Jets net. Dylan Dlo got it there. Head to Alex Afallow to Mark Shley. Hawk blue line on the right wing. He spun the puck off the boards into the Hawks. The Hawks get possession. Renzel with a lead pass for Burkoski in front from the Hawks bench is over a stick and down behind the Jets net. Helabuk sends it back around at the left wing side to Nomestnikov. Hands it ahead for Jonathan Taves. Hawk blue line left wing side and he’ll sweep the puck down behind the Hawk net. Matt Grizzlick there to handle it. passing up the left wing. Burkovosski whips it over to Renzel. He’ll carry to center and try to take a pass on the left wing side, but it’s broken up by the Jets. Dave into the Hawk zone right point. Drops it off to Peon. He fires from out near the blue line and a blocker save made by Spencer Knight. Two minutes left in period number two. It’s 4-1 Winnipeg. Paves in the left wing corner with the puck. Sends it around to the right point to Pon. put it into the right circle to need a rider to the line. Stanley long wrist shot goes just wide to the Hawk net and Spencer Knight did not even see that shot. Here’s Burkowski taking a hand off by Badard to center dumping the puck lazily down the left wing boards in behind the Jets net. Pian there to get it. Whips a pass ahead to Pearson. He steps into the Hawk zone at the right point. Put the puck down to the corner. It’s Pope checked away now down behind the net. Need a rider digging it out to Baron in the right wing corner. Hawks own to Dlo right point back to Baron beside the right circle now he’ll leave it there for Nether Rider to the line. Dlo sends it left point. Flurry to Nether Rider top of the left circle and he guns it in on goal and Spencer Knight is down with a butterfly save and holds it. Winnipeg does such a good job of transitioning the puck. The Hawks got that all the way down to the Jets end. Went for a change. Uh Dlo got it up all the way to Pearson to the far blue line. Quick turn, quick pass, and they’re right back on the attack again. They’re right back in the ozone. Not that there’s lots of action happening there. Grade a chances or high threatening chances by any means, but it’s that quick up that makes you defend and makes you defend and makes you defend. And it gets hard after a while when these guys keep coming at you and coming at you. And now out comes Shifley, Valardi, and Kyle Connor and Josh Morsy and Dlo and your hands are full again with a Dzone drop. You’d have to think that Kevin Chevoff, the general manager of this Winnipeg Jets team, has very systematically built this team for what they believe will be a lengthy playoff run uh coming up to the spring of 2026. They thought they were going to have that last year when they had won the President’s Trophy for most points in the regular season among NHL teams, but I think that their playoff run ended in the second round and they almost they almost the run almost ended in the first round as the St. Those blues took him to seven games with the deciding game here as the puck leaves the ice surface into the Jets bench. But the point I’m making it with the addition of Pearson and Jonathan Taves, those are two key components come playoff time, both with veteran experience. Two veteran guys, two guys that have won Stanley Cups, I’ve played with Tanner Pearson on the same line with him for a little bit when he’s a rookie as well as watching him play. I mean, he’s a veteran guy. He played in Vegas last year. kind of guy that you add depth through your lineup and Johnny Taves added depth to their lineup and experience and that veteran savviness to them. Um I mean they’re a good team, well-built team. They’ve been able to lock in their top guys for a lot of years to come too. So uh they’ve been able to sustain it for a number of years now and they’re trying to get over that hump uh of those early exits in the playoffs. Hawks get control off the draw. Nick Finino to center ice on the left wing will lift the puck down into the jet zone. Moresy quickly clears it down to the hot glue line and Felino waiting there. Kept it away from a couple of jets. Put it up the right side there to slag it from the Hawks bench. He tried to reach around Morrisy and one hand the puck into the jet zone and did but Morrisy beat into it. Send it ahead for Panton who dumps it into the Hawk zone to the right wing corner. Louis Krebier there passing up the left wing. Slagger outlets to Felo center ice on the right wing front of the Hawks bench. 18 seconds for the period. Fino dumping the puck to the inboards where he runs into Peock there, but Pock now has the puck behind the Jets net with 10. Yal at the center ice. This is off the stick of Nomesnikov and down. Conor Murphy to the puck of the corner. Quick clear up the left wing side to Vassic to the center ahead of the Jets line and you hear the horn in the background. 40 minutes are in the books here in Winnipeg. The Jets will take a comfortable 4 to1 lead into the dressing rooms after that span of play. shots favoring the Jets 18-13. Second periods again it’s uh it’s been tough for the Blackhawks. Yeah, especially um that first goal 154 into the period. It was Mark Shley coming down the right side. He kind of took the shot from the right side faceoff dot one that Spencer Knight would definitely want back. It was kind of snuck through him over the pad under the glove. It hit his arm. He just didn’t get all of it. He couldn’t smother it. Um kind of a routine shot by Shifley. didn’t even look like he really leaned into it to really try to rip it. Just uh one of those put it on net and anything can happen. And then it was Gabe Valardi at the uh 1119 mark. Um kind of a bang bang play. It was Dlo coming down the same area, the same side, the almost a similar spot to Mark Shley where he he uh passed it back to F3, what I’d call F3 where Gabe Valardi had popped high into the slot area and he one timed it low blocker on Spencer Knight. Um not much he can do with it. you know, maybe if you make a save, it’s a big save. It certainly wasn’t an easy save by any m any means in this this top line of Valardi and Shifley and Connor just kind of taking it to the the young Blackhawk team and picking them apart a little bit. Well, Gabe Balardi is sitting on two goals in this game. He’s already registered a hat-tick in his career and he’s another one of those former LA Kings that has come here to Winnipeg and really has kind of flourished. He’s not very good. Yeah, I mean, he’s a good player. He can score goals. He’s he’s probably not the lead on that line. You got the main guy down the middle of Mark Schiff who’s been around. He’s the all-time Winnipeg Jets uh leading scoreer. Um really a really strong two-way player. He’s 6’3 centerman. He’s taken seventh overall. He’s got 15 points heading into this game, right? Um and then Kyle Connor, I mean, he scores 40 goals every year, what seems like 40 goals every single year. Very consistent, very good player, high skilled player. Just signed a new 96 to million dollar deal. And you and I were talking off off the mics here. He’s worth every penny. Worth every penny. Going to be an Olympian. He does it so consistently. And this this top line really um really they’re the difference. I mean the game in itself I I again I don’t feel like they’ve really crushed us. It’s just that top line has crushed us if that’s fair to say. I think that is and they’ve been the difference in the game clearly. All right. 4-1 Winnipeg after two periods up here in the Peg. And Charlie Romelotus is standing by in Blackhawk Central with a full intermission report. Then back for third period action up here to Manitoba. Hawks have been a pretty good third period team. So this one’s a long way from over. And this is a young group and I think that they’re I think they might be feeling a little bit feisty right now. I’d like to see it looking at that 4-1 deficit. So we’ll see. Anyway, we’ll get it off to Charlie right now and back with the third in a little bit. This is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. Hey hockey fans, it’s Troy Murray. Here’s Charlie Romelotus with your intermission update. It is intermission time over in Winnipeg through 40 minutes and the Jets are leading the Blackhawks 4 to one. Blackhawks kicking off a a six-game road trip. Weird. I I don’t feel like Winnipeg is dominating the Blackhawks in this game. The the numbers are pretty even across the board as far as the chances and the and shot attempts go, but uh the Winnipeg Jets have capitalized on their chances and the Blackhawks have struggled to do so on their own. So, we’ll see what the third period brings, but it’s going to be a tall order for the Blackhawks to uh try to fight for a point in this game, especially against one of the best, if not the best goalender in the world and Conor Halibuk. So, we’ll see what the third period brings. Let’s get to some scores around the NHL. 10 other games on the schedule. We start in Philly where the Flyers defeated the Nashville Predators 4 to one. Trevor Zegress had two goals and an assist in the win for the Flyers who improved to 61 and0 at home this season. Zegris now has a point in all seven of those home games. So what a win for the Flyers. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars game just went final. The Lightning knocked off the Stars 2 to1 in overtime. Anthony Cerelli scored the overtime winner for Tampa Bay. And former Blackhawks winger Brandon Hegel scored the other goal for Tampa Bay to extend his goal streak to three games after having zero goals in his first uh eight games. And by the way, that was the fourth straight win for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Uh so it seems like they’re starting to find their stride uh lately. The Buffalo Sabres have rallied back against Boston and have tied this game up at 33. This game has just ended in the third period, so they’re going to head to an overtime. Uh David Pasternak has a goal and an assist for the Bruins, but uh the Sabres are out shooting the Bruins 40 to20 in that game. So big uh big two points coming up here for for Buffalo. See if they can get the extra one. The Speaking of overtime, the Senators and Flames are currently in overtime tied at 33. It was Nazim Cadri and Jake Sanderson scoring respective goals in the third period uh for their clubs. Ardam Zub also has a goal in that game for the Senators. The Carolina Hurricanes are up 4 to one on the New York Islanders early in the third period. Matthew Schaefer, the number one overall pick from this last year’s draft, scored his third goal of the season. And uh then Sebastian Aaho, he has a point in all nine games this season. Carolina has four goals in this one, but Aaho does not have a point yet, so we’ll see if he can extend his point streak. Uh side note, no Matt Barzelle in this game for the New York Islanders. He was a healthy scratched after he missed the team bus and he was late to the rink. So, uh uh hey, happens. Uh second intermission over in St. Louis, the Canucks and Blues are kned up at 2-2. Kefir Sherwood has both of the goals for Vancouver. Also tied up in the second intermission, the Penguins and Wild one to one. Ryan Sheay has the goal for Pittsburgh. Kill Capri off has the goal for Minnesota. And then the only other game going on or the final game going on is the Oilers and the Rangers that’s knotted up at 1-1 over in Edmonton with two minutes left in the first period. So we’ll have to monitor that game as Chicago’s next opponent is Edmonton in Edmonton. And then two late ones tonight. The San Jose Sharks are hosting the New Jersey Devils as Mlin Celerrini looks to extend his point streak to six games. He’s got 11 in his last five. So he’s off to a really hot start. And then the LA Kings are hosting the Detroit Red Wings later tonight. Patrick Kane, former Blackhawks superstar, is out for the sixth consecutive game with an upper body injury. Other NHL news, Colorado star Marty Nes signed an 8-year $92 million extension earlier today. An 11.5 million cap hit. 60.4 of the 92 million is in signing bonuses. He’s got a full no move clause in the first seven years of the deal. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he is now officially off the market. And then elsewhere in sports, the Baltimore Ravens are up 14-6 at halftime of Thursday Night Football. Two receptions and two touchdowns for Ravens tight end Mark Andrews for all you fantasy owners. Meanwhile, over in Winnipeg, the Hawks are trailing 4 to one against the Jets. We’ll take a quick break, then break down the first 40 minutes of action. Floors that inspire every step. Back here in the intermission, the Hawks trailing 4 to one over in Winnipeg through 40 minutes of play. Looking at some of the numbers, and it does not feel like a 4-1 game. Uh, in all situations, the shot attempts are 36-31 in favor of the Blackhawks. The scoring chances are 17-7. Uh, so we got a tie tie in the scoring chances. The high danger chances are 11 to7 in favor of Winnipeg, but it’s not as lopsided as the score may indicate. Really the difference in this game is Winnipeg’s top line of Kyle Connor, Mark Schiffley, and Gabe Valardi. I’m looking at their numbers as a line specifically when they’ve been on the ice uh in this game against Chicago through two periods. The shot attempts are 10 to6 in favor of Winnipeg. shots on goal are 5 to1 in favor of Winnipeg. The goals for 3 to one in favor of Winnipeg. But here it is, the scoring chances are 7 to3 in favor of Winnipeg when that trio is on the ice. But when they’re not on the ice, the scoring chances are 7 to1 in favor of the Blackhawks. So, it’s really that one line that has been dominating play uh for the Jets. And I believe, yeah, they’ve accounted for three of the four goals uh in this game. Vladimikov has the other one which uh oh that that was the oh yeah that was the first one I was talking about. I was thinking about the the third one Mark Schley goal that that’s one Spencer Knight for sure would want to have back but Spencer Knight has been so good for the Blackhawks all season long through 10 games that it feels like the the Blackhawks owe him to you know to to pick him up occasionally. Um, I know in a game where it’s four to one going into the third and Connor Halbuck is the best goalender in the world arguably, uh, it’s going to be hard to get three here in the in the third period for the Blackhawks, but um, and the Spencer Knight goal that he he allowed that he probably wants back. That that gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead. And so that that feels like it was, you know, a momentum halter. I’m sure Spencer would be the first one to tell you that as well. But, uh, yeah, overall, I honestly don’t mind the way that the Blackhawks are playing. It just feels like Winnipeg has capitalized on their chances and the Blackhawks have not been able to do so. Uh let’s take a look at tonight’s window of opportunity sponsored by the state’s official health insurance marketplace, Get Covered Illinois, where I think the Hawks have missed their opportunities are on the power play. They’re 0 for three in this game. They have uh seven shot attempts, four shots on goal. They’ve generated five scoring chances on their power play, but they haven’t been able to capitalize. So, that’s an area where it feels like that the Hawks have missed out in potentially getting back into the game. We’ll see if they get one in the third period they could take advantage of. Uh, now is your opportunity to find health insurance that fits your budget at getcoedillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillillinois.gov. Open enrollment ends on January 15th. As we head back over to Winnipeg, I’m going to toss it to you boys with a stat. So, I looked this up. Connor Halabuk last year, eight times in 62 starts, he gave up four or more goals. So, it’s not impossible for the Blackhawks to get three here in the third. However, it’s going to be a one goal at a time kind of thing. But Charlie, you were talking about what’s on deck and uh sometimes you’ll turn to us for our thoughts and comments. So, I’m going to say what’s on deck for Hawks fans. The epic comeback that we’re going to be describing here, Frazz. What do you think? I absolutely like that. I hope these young legs better get going. And we were talking about at the intermission there. Charlie was mentioning how uh it doesn’t feel like a 4-1 game and it’s just that top line has kind of taken it to him and all the underlying analytic numbers of the chances for chances against are quite equal. So, um the scoreboard uh is all that matters at the end of the day, John. So the Hawks are losing 4-1. They better find their legs and find some juice and kind of send a message here for 20 minutes. All right, here’s Nazar and Tave to face off to get the period started again. And again, Frank Nazar wins this draw. Trevier fires the puck down the boards deep into the jet zone. Pian in the far corner. Send it up the right wing side. Was intended for a foul, but he’s tied up along the boards. Terrain reaching in pulls the puck free. Sends it behind the net to creier along the Ray horse. He shot it back in behind. Terrain from the left corner. Leaves it for Nazar. Put it out to the left point. Kaiser fires. That was blocked at the defense. And here are the Jets the other way. Tase to the Hawk line on the left wing. Caught by Terrain who strips the puck free. Here’s Kaiser with a lead pass for Bertusi at the Jets line, but all he can do is redirect the puck into the Jet zone with escape. Meanwhile, Morrisy back up ice for the Jets into the Hawk zone. Set the puck down the boards. Picked off by the Hawks. Green to Renzel. Put it to center ice. Veroski at the Jets blue line. Had to turn back with the puck. Bard was already in the zone. Veroski got it to Renzel into the Jets in along the right wing side. He shot it down behind the net. Over the net, I should say. Ends up behind the net. Here’s Valardi with the puck along the left. Jet zone. So Connor at center ice. Pokes it in over the hot blue line. Ryan Green there to the puck. dangerously though moves it to the near side now to Renzel center ice back to Green over the jet line down the left wing cuts to the net then drops in behind Green in the right wing corner leaves the puck there but his intended target Connor Bernard had looped in behind the Jets net the Jets take the puck back Flurry to Kyle Connor Hawk line left wing at the end of his shift he’ll step it down both the boards and in behind the Hawk net and there to get it now Matt Grizzlick outlet pass picked off at center ice by Morgan Bear Jets forward dumping the puck off the boards deep into the Hawk zone and as Matt Grizzlick touches the puck. The whistle blows. Jets are going to get a power play here. Hooking will be the call. Was the exact same penalty on Doc in the first period where he had that one hand on a stick and he kind of reached in there to try to break up a play and the Jets player just fell over kind of kind of softly. I get the penalty. I get why he’s calling the penalty. I see it. It’s just not a hard penalty. It’s uh a little on the soft side for me where you got one hand on your stick and at the end of the day you can’t do it. You can’t reach into the hands. You can’t put it in there. You can’t give the refs any excuse or any reason to call a penalty and Hawks are back on the penalty kill. A fan might say, “Well, the referee felt that the Jets needed a power play.” I don’t buy into that. I think the guys, the official, the officials in the NHL do a very good job of trying to let the boys play, and when a penalty needs to be called, they do it. Now the Jets get their second power play opportunity on the game. Connor from the right wing corner tried to spin the puck in front with the backhand. This is picked off by Nick Felino and the Hawk captain will fire it up the left side and down. 134 on the jet power play. Morrisy from behind his net. Carries the puck out to his blue line. Drops it behind himself to the oncoming Kyle Connor. He’s a Detroit area native. He hands the puck now to Shley in the Hawk zone. stripped to the puck nicely by Wyatt Kaiser who gets some room along the near boards and sky’s a backhander all the way down behind his neck. Go ahead. I say Mark Shley really makes the game of hockey look easy. 6′ three, nice and smooth, carries pucks up the ice, plays top lines, plays top minutes. He’s having a heck of a night tonight and he makes it look easy doing it. Play in the OHL for the Barry Colts. Now Valardi into the Hawk zone. Drops it in the right wing corner to Kyle Connor. He’ll carry behind the net. move it out to a foul left point to Morsy in the deep slot then to Shifley. Shley in the right corner back to Morsy high slot this time to Connor top of the left circle guns a shot that hit Krebier in the skate and deflects out of play up into the netting. So whistle stopping play. 40 seconds left on the minor penalty to Colton Doc. 1649 left in the third of a 4-1 Winnipeg lead. And for every time you generally speaking you kill a penalty usually get a power play in return. Not to say we we always even it up, but it seems to be the case sometimes. So, 40 seconds to get this kill for the Blackhawks and hopefully they get a call in return to get something going. Jets control off the draw. Nestnikov at the bottom of the left circle. Carries behind the net. Fing up the slot to Neil Pian to Taves in the right wing corner to Pian at the line. Long wrist shot deflects wide. Need Ryder got it back near the right wing corner to Taves along the right boards. Put it into the high slot. Felino dove to try and knock it out of the zone but held in by the Jets. Here’s Pian with a rash shot into the glove of Spencer Knight. And who’s going to hold on and a whistle stops play. Coming up will be the Four Seasons heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electric face off for all the right reasons. Call 866 Four Seasons. And uh Colin, I know you’re up here in Canada, but uh is your furnace ready to go for the for the winter? It’s getting cold up here. We we had to replace the furnace a couple years back, John. And if you don’t have a furnace up here in Canada, you’re in trouble because that bite is in the air. It’s not too bad. The weather’s been good, but the bite is in the air. It’s coming. It’s right around the corner. See, if you lived in Chicago, you could get Dave out to your house to get that taken care of. Well, Dave’s Dave’s a good man. He is. Dave now jams the puck on goal from beside the net. And Spencer Knight went down. We get a perfect look at it from our broadcast position here. And Spencer down in the butterfly position kept that out of the net with his right pad. You can see as he uncouples off the off the puck, it’s ahead of the goal line and right in the blue paint. Yeah, and that was Jon Jonathan Taves uhesque there. I’ve seen that play before uh a handful of times. He’s playing the goal line on power play too here where he he has those good hands, but he also has that power to kind of take it to the net. He he was below the goal line, saw a lane, took it right to the net, tried to jam it in, but Spencer held his ground. Tes wins the draw at the left point to Nemes for Taves. left wing corner to Nessnikov. Bottom of the circle, fires, turned out of there by Knight and the Hawks have come back to full strength. A good kill. Kaiser behind the net, tried to clear the puck out and that deflected up. The stick blade deflected up and hit Taves, I believe, in the fa, excuse me, the face. He’ll head to the bench as Nazar gathers the puck in and dumps it down to the inboards in the Winnipeg zone. And Doc catches a high stick there. They let him play. Logan Stanley passing a pass up the left wing side and down into the Hawk zone. Whistle blows on an icing call here. Yeah, Doc was looking for a call there. It was actually an elbow. He went to finish the check and Big Logan Stanley, 6’7, kind of spun and elbowed him right in the mouth. He he did look right to the ref. He’s had two hooking calls against him. So, if anyone’s looking for a call, it’s it’s Colton Dock um on that play. No harm, no foul. Uh looks like maybe they messed up the icing here, John. They’re bringing the faceoff back to center ice. So, um I don’t know what happened there. They got Winnipeg was able to get a change and the faceoff has gone to center ice. So, it is. And now Ryan Green will face off against Morgan Baron. And Green wins this face off to left off at the Hawk blue line. Put it over to Grizzlick. He slips it ahead for Bard in front of the Winnipeg bench. with a backhanded stab. He sends the puck down ice and in behind the Jets net. Baron came out with it. Sent it around up the far sideboards held in by Grizzlick. Left point put it down to Burkoski. Left wing corner. He sends it over to Lechinoff. Top of the right wing circle. He’ll spin it back in behind around to Bard along the left half boards to Grizzlick left point. Fires a knuckle ball toward the net deflected wide by Green Boxy along to Ray Bors. tried to put the puck to the right point for Levino who could not hold the puck in the Jet zone. He had to retreat to center ice and get it back and fire it into the Jets end. Morsy with a pass ahead now to Baron into the Hawk zone left wing side firing a wrist shot and a blocker saved by by Spencer Knight. Here’s Grizzlick with a pass to center ice. Badard to Donado breaking with a jet line down the right wing. Goes from backhand to forehand and fires. That was turned wide. Renzel will fire from the right point. Pad save made by Hela. It’s only the 15th shot on goal for the Hawks in this hockey game. Connor to center ice to Shley over the Hawk line down the left wing to the corner. Shley run into by Renzel to the end boards and now Luke Shen will fire from the right point. Blocked by Landon Slagger Connor to the puck right half boards to Mardi. Top of the right circle. A tow drag and a shot there. Never got through to the net from the high slot. Now Flurry will fire and that deflects over the Hawk net. Connor along the near boards being checked by Duck. Donado’s got the puck to center ice to Lassic over the jet line to the left circle. Slagger and he fans on a shot. Jets get the puck back on the turnover. Shley to center ice. Runs into Colton Doc in front of the Hawks mentioned. Doc strips him of the puck. Carries back into the Jet zone. Left circle shoots and Hellabuk down with a butterfly save. Will hold the puck and a whistle. No further play. 1345 remains in period number three up here in Winnipeg. It’s the Jets four and the Hawks one and this is Blackhawks hockey on 720 WGN. By the way, the Blackhawks killed off that second Jets power play and as they did, they came back to full strength sponsored by Northwestern Medicine Orthopedics on a relentless pursuit of better medicine. Draw to the right of Connor Habib who played for the team USA in the four nations faceoff last February. That was a great tournament. Hey, Colin. That was like it was almost like I couldn’t believe how good those players are when it was nice to have best on best again to say the least. And the US Canada rivalry was real and alive and man that was some good hockey. I would think that Heluck and Dallas Stars goender Jakeer will be the two lead candidates for Team USA in the upcoming Olympics. That should be fun to watch too. Here’s Leinoff behind the Hawk net passing up the left wing Tabiner at center ice. Rink wide pass for Nar down the right wing into the jet zone but he’s caught by Morgan Baron actually by Logan Stanley who takes the puck away. And I have foul out and Mesnikov at the Hawk line to Stanley over the line to the left wing boards. He spins it down behind the net. Nazar kicks it free now from a pack of Jets passing up the left wing side. Here’s Tabo Terrain working his way over the Jet line and he skates right into an entanglement of five Winnipeg Jets, but he’s got the presence of line to chase one of the Jets. That’s Pock to the corner and check him into the boards. Jervine and got it back to Bard over the jet line. Right circle, a tow drag and a shot and a blocker save is made by Connor Hella. Colin, I really believe as the puck comes down ice into the Hawk zone, I really believe I’m going to be saying that very phrase many many times in the uh next years, next couple of years of Connor Badard’s career, a tow drag and a shot because it just seems to be his patented move. I was just going to use that word patented. That was his patent release on that play on the right side looking for that low blocker. There’s Burkovski to center ice on the left wing. Put the puck ahead Ryan Green into the jet zone. He does a good job of protecting it against Morrisy against the halfs and then the puck is stripped away by Dlo and sent down into the Hawk zone. Blic there steps into the jet zone right point drop pass. Bard whips it to the high slot. Lassic put it over to Green and he fires from the left circle. You heard it hit the post. Loose puck taken back by the Jets. Then Barovski stripped it away and then Badard tried to lift the stick of Flurry and take the puck away in the near circle in the Jet zone. Flurry kept it away from Baddard and the Baron to the hot blue line and he sent it down behind the net. Previer there on the right side boards to Felino over the center ice circle dumps the puck to the right wing corner. Jets in Doc sweeping in around Shen to oneand the puck free into the far corner and then he runs into Valardi. There does Colton Dock. Jets get the puck back. Here’s a pass by Flurry up the left wing that misses Kyle Connor and goes all the way down. And icing is the call against the Jets. That that was a heck of a look by Ryan Green. It was a really a nice play all the way around. Barosski just slowly gains possession on the right side over the blue line to kind of buy time. Leaves it for Badard. Bedard does this quick little shoulder chuck. It spins and throws a backhand pass to Blic joining the play right up the middle of the ice. and he quickly kicked it over to the left side to Green as a right shot. Took a one-time might have hit the post. Helabuk was over there. He moved so quickly. He’s so big. He makes it look easy. But it really was a nice offensive play. Draw on the jet zone. One by the Jets. And then Valardi went to get the puck in the left wing corner. He was checked by Tyler Bertusi. Works the puck free. Hawks get it. Terrain top of the right circle. Headed over the left wing corner to Renzel. Works his way through a check. Carries behind the net. put it in fronti and he catches it and escape kicks it to a stick and fires just wide. Stanley to Connor stepping into the Hawk zone left point spins it down behind the net and now Kaiser pulls it free. He’ll hand it ahead Frank Nazar who carries the puck through center across the jet line to the left point. Hit by Neil Peon. Puck taken away by the Jets momentarily. Cole Kepky then lost it back to Frank Nazar of the Hawks. Kept flying around to try and hit everything in sight. Meanwhile, Nick Felino finishing his check in the far corner on Keon who whips it behind the jet net around to Stanley passing it ahead into the Hawk zone. Grizzlick and Pearson get their sticks on the puck simultaneously and it topples over the near glass and out of play. Souvenir for whoever that guy is down in row one. There’s a little bit of a burst there like this game opened up a little bit. Blackhawks have had some good sustained pressure here. Hellick making it look easy and then back the other way. Shley had Renzel wide. Uh Shley just moves so well and has that like long smooth stride to him. It doesn’t look like he’s even exerting all that much energy considering how big he is. And Spencer Knight made the good low blocker save. Draw out of Knight’s right. Brian Green against Jonathan Taves and Green wins this one for the Hawks to the far corner. Colton Doc pulls out the nine iron and lifts it through the air to center ice. Dlo took the puck back for the Jets. Enters the Hawk zone to the left point. Spins it down behind the net. Caves gathers it in there to Dillo at the line. Right point to Morsy, left point, hammers a shot and it hit the post and goes in. They score. I’m not sure Spencer Knight saw that come through. It’s kind of a routine shot and it handcuffed him. I did it the post. Did he get a piece of it? He didn’t see it come through the traffic and it was kind of sitting in behind him and trickled over the line. He was He was kind of spinning around looking for it himself. It did go off the post, John. off the post to the far side. So off the right post, it kicked over to his left foot and it just hit Knight’s left foot and then slowly trickled into the net. Well, one of the Jets tipped this one on the way in. Morrisy was the one that uh led the Conga line in front of the benches with the fist bumps, but it looked like one of the Jets tipped this. Want to see a look at the replay here? could have been uh I follow a net in front of the net. No, I think I think it happened uh inside the left wing circle. Anyway, we’ll we’ll tell you about the goal when we have a chance. Here’s Krebier inside the jet zone hammering a shot from the line and a kneeling butterfly save made by Helleak. Bianca along the far boards to the puck will clear to center ice. Baron crossing a hot line down the left wing. run into the boards there by Krevier, but put the puck down behind the net. Jets, by the way, with the five to one lead. Here’s Stanley now. Top of the left circle. Angles one toward the net. It hit Baron on the way through. Baron takes another hit from Krebier. He’ll fire and that goes over the net off the deflection. Nick Felino was dumped in between the circles and the Jets come out of their end. Ander Pearson crossing the Hawk line on the left wing. Fire on fires it in on goal and a butterfly save is made by Spencer Knight. Then Leinoff to the puck back in the net. Cleared up the left wing side to Grizzlick. He’ll lift it over the center ice circle. This is batted back into the Hawk zone by Parker Ford. Taken back by the Hawks. Leanoff then fires it off the end boards in behind the net to the far corner. One of the Hawks, Bernard, was hooked up on the play. No penalty call. He’s still giving it to the ref back up the ice. He really wanted a call. He’s skating back, checking up the ice and still looking at him and saying something. Burkowski behind the Hawk net fishes the puck free. Leanoff put it to the near corner to Green to Alex Lassic. He’ll skate the puck to center. Classic over the jet line on the right wing side. Back hands it down behind the net. Alab out to play the puck to Morrisy. He coughed it up to Ryan Green along the right side boards and Green in a battle with a couple of jets. Outn numbers situation. Finally, the Hawks get it. Veroski to Murphy deep slot. Hammers a shot and goal save. Rebound score. Alex Blick scores the goal from the doorstep and the Hawks get one back. trail five-2 with 658 left in period number three. Yeah, it was a nice textbook play going low to high. Bowski gets it high. The shot as it comes high. Vlic goes down the left side sneaking in back door and the rebound kind of sat in front. Bdard I think might have kicked it over or it squirted over to Vic and he put it in the wide open net. Not much Halabuk can do on that but that’s like a a textbook setup play. low to high slap shot rebound to the side and he puts it in. And with that, John, it’s time to break out Mr. Chelios’s Bandido. Celebrate every goal this season with El Bandido, Yankee Tequila. I want to know if Chel’s been up here with you opening up this Bandido uh after a nice Blackhawk school. Well, you know, we worked together. Um, it’s been it’s been a couple of weeks ago and I don’t recall Chris having any of his product in the booth at that time, but uh I know that we had the occasion to break out a little Bandido in that time. It’s a lot of fun and a great product by the way and a great spokesman. Come on, Chris Chelios. Heck of a guy. Legend. Does it get better than that? Come on. Not much. Speaking of Olympic teams, why Chris played for the 84 Olympic team and it was with the team with Eddie Oluk several of the great players of all time in US hockey history. We get a stoppage in play off of a faceoff win by the Jets. Need a rider into the Hawk zone to Baron and he fires from the left circle into the glove of Knight. So we get a whistle face off in the Hawk zone and the circle to his right. Well, let’s hope that goal gets the Hawks going a little bit. 6 minutes and 22 seconds left in the third. They got a deep hole to get out of still, but uh they have had their looks. They have had their chances. Um 6 minutes to get her done. John, I I uh first game of the road trip, first game of the six game road trip. So, getting a little bit of a lesson from this veteran Winnipeg Jets team. Classic’s first goal on the season. Right now, they’ve got an unassisted and the goal scored at 1302. Lots of time on that clock. Come on. That’s an eternity. 602. Come on. With this young team, anything can happen. Play at center ice. Colton Doc takes the puck away from Valardi to Nick Felino at the Jet Blue line. He’s hit by Flurry. Didn’t like the hit. He gave Flurry a shot with the stick as the puck goes deep to the end boards in the Jets end. Luke Shen took it there and flipped it down in behind the Hawknet. Renzel now fighting off a check from Polardi in the near corner. Classic in to offer some assistance. Classic behind the Hawk net. He’s checked. Lost the handle on the puck. Pops free in front of the net and Barosski finally got hold of it. Head to Badar to center ice in the right wing. Floats the puck to the right wing corner. Jet in. Baroski grabbed it and then sumearily fell down losing his edge. He sent the puck behind the net to the left wing corner and Bolardi pries it out for the Jets to Morrisy to center ice to Connor on the left wing side. He dumps it into the Hawk zone right to left. Passing up Bison now. Veroski takes a car. Got it to Bard over the jet line. Right point. Drop pass left to Bard in the high slot. He sent it down toward the net. Baroski put it shoots and scores. What a play and what a shot by Andre Barosski. Check your highlight reels folks. This is going to be all over. Andre Barakauski in front of the Jets net. He was backing up. He caught that pass on his forehand and pulled it through his own feet and shot it past Connor Halabuk. Five to three in favor of the Jets. I want to see this one every time I get a chance. What a play. I was If you’re listening, make sure you go home and watch the highlights for this one. Bard was right in the middle of the blue line at the top and he zipped a pass to a left-handed Veroski who is to the left of Helle. He spun backwards, put it through his legs, and shelf it on the blocker side. And he did it with some authority. The shot had a little bit of steam on it. It wasn’t a lucky play that kind of trickled in. It had extra juice on it that went top shelf. John Colin, what time do you have? It’s that wonderful time to break out the Bandido Yankee Tequila. Celebrate every goal this season with El Bandido Yankee Tequila. John, I knew it was getting to be that time. All right, so 5-3. Here’s Taz now in the right circle. Hawk zone firing a shot to the net. Pad save made. Hawks come back up. Ice on an oddman rush. Threeon two led by Nazar over the jet line. Drops it right by Bertusi. He fires and that’s redirected on goal by Terraine. And suddenly you sense that the Jets players are back on their heels a little bit here. Yeah, they Blackhawk started going, got these young legs going. They got a little bit of juice. It opened up a little bit and they’re exciting to watch. And there four minutes left to get get that tequila going two more times. John, here’s Krevier at the right point Jet zone. Spins it down to the captain Nick Felino back in the net. Felo working against Morrisy. Good play by Felino to good turn right and then left. Fed the right point. Krebier sends it left point. Lassic back to Krevier at the line. Fires a wrist shot that deflects over the net. Krevier at the right point again down to Donado. Right wing corner. Angles it in front for Doc who’s tripped as he went to the net. No penalty called. Classic plays to car from the left wing boards. Cuts into the high slot and fires a backhander over the net. He’s taken back by the Jets and the puck is cleared down ice by Barrett. Now Nick Felino for the benches will dump it off the boards and down behind the Jets net and Dylan Dlo has it there for Winnipeg. He’ll pass up the right side. Shley at center ice. Shley into the Hawk zone down the right wing to the corner. Caravan reaching and took it away. Spun it behind the net but not out. Flurry claims the puck at the left point. Put it down to the corner. Terrain and took it away. Passes it up the right side for Nazar. He shot the puck across the rink, but nobody is there. None of his teammates. And now Shley took it back in behind the Hawk net. Checked by Renzel. Hawks get the puck back. The dard to Nazar over the jet line. Lost the handle on the puck. Spencer Knight was heading to the bench. He has to get back into the Hawks crease. Jets on the attack. Kyle Connor cuts across the to the right circle. Fires it back and he scores. And that’s why they pay that man $96 million. And we were talking to about him coming out of the break. Nazar in the neutral zone tried to kick it to Baddard and it was a turnover and it was really a no harm, no foul play. They came back threeon-ree. It really wasn’t a big deal and Chely kicked it out to Kyle Connor wide and he’s uh he’s a left shot coming down the right side. He’s got the puck on his backhand kind of coming across and he gets it low tight to the net and he went backhand short side over Spencer Knight’s shoulder. There’s just a little hole there and he picked that hole with his backhand. Uh that’s hard to do on the backhand that you’ve seen Connor Bedard do it on the forehand. Um even Patty Kane back in the day, but to kick it with your backhand up that short side top shelf, that’s a high skill goal by a high skilled player. I’m just going to say there are only a handful of players in the world that can make a play like that. Kyle Connor being one of them. That was a pretty goal. I mean, anybody can appreciate a goal like that regardless of what the score is. It makes the score six to three in favor of the Jets as we return to the action. Taves in the right wing corner. Hawk Joow moves it out to the right point to Pak. A long wrist shot. Oh, and that hit the Messnikoff up high as he skated in front of the Hawk. He’s going to head to the Jets bench. Meanwhile, Lushoff is tripped as he tried to carry the puck out of the Hawk zone. The Jets get it back. No penalties called. 159 left on the scoreboard clock. 6-3 in favor of the Jets up here in Winnipeg. And now here’s Logan Stanley with a pass on the left wing to Kepky. Hawk blue line. He deflects it down behind the net. Tanner Pearson there to the puck. And now we get a little bit of a mixup in behind the Hawk net. Conor Murphy has a headlock on one of the jets and the boys all pile in and now some preh holiday preh Halloween pleasantries are exchanged as the boys grab hold of one another. It’s just impossible to describe a lot of a lot of headlocking in that. Matt Griswick has a headlock on Cole Kepky who does likewise to Grizzlick. This hasn’t been separated yet. There’s some ill will down there behind the Hawks net. Yeah, Conor Murphy went right in there and kind of finished his check and put the headlock on. I think it might have been Pearson. I’m not sure which Jets player it was to begin with. And he but he wasn’t letting that headlock go was the thing. And he drew a crowd. Um, everybody was in their headlock and everybody like you said, not nothing really going on that was too crazy, but uh it’s almost like Murphy kind of went after him. I don’t know if they have bad blood from earlier in the game or something, but um in any event, it got a crowd going behind Spencer Knight to the left side of Spencer Knight and uh he’s going to go off and sit for two. Well, Luke Shen was involved in that frecus as well. You had Murphy. The initial combatants were Murphy and Parker Ford. So, we get the call two for roughing to Conor Murphy and this puts the Jets on the power play. I did not see anybody go off for the Jets. That That was just the 6-3 score. Mad, angry, all the emotions going uh trying to show some I don’t know push back or some anger or whatever it is. I I can relate to that a little bit, John, myself. I’m I’m not one to sit there and uh accept a 6-3 loss by any means. Even though it again, it doesn’t feel like a 6-3 game, but it doesn’t really matter. They the game is 6-3. It doesn’t matter how you play. Um the fact is they’re losing by three. Well, Colin, think about it. In a couple of nights, they’re going to be in Edmonton and facing the likes of Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle. So, this is maybe something to get their motors going in anticipation of that contest cuz that’s going to be a handful for them as well. Well, that’s just it. You do got to look forward to the next game and you got to, you know, work out your kinks and work out the things that that were an issue for tonight. And uh, you know, it’s game one of the six game trip, so you got to get it back to one and one. This is the Jets third power play. Back in the Hawks zone, Wyatt Kaiser took the puck away down below the goal line, hands it in front of the net to Nick Felino, and the Hawk captain will send it the rest of the way. Approaching one minute left in the game, Morsy at the Jets line, pushing the puck ahead. They want to try and get Gabe Valardi a hat-tick. Here’s Nazar breaking into the Jet zone. And as he stopped to get a puck that he’d overced on, he actually tripped Valardi and no penalty is called there. And so Vassic at center ice in front of the benches to a loose puck will clear it down. 42 seconds left in the game. The Jets with the puck behind their net. That’s Neil Pian with it. Pian came over from the Rangers and that trade that sent Jacob Trouba back to the New York Rangers several years ago. The Jets have been very happy with Pian’s play. Here’s Nestnikov breaking into the Hawk zone down the slot. He lost the handle and the puck swept out of there by Leinoff. 20 seconds left in the game. Classic behind the net will drive it around up the left wing side and down. Terrain skating to the puck in the left wing corner. Jet end. Sheds a check behind the net. Put the puck into the near corner. And now he ties up one of the Jets. 6 seconds left. Kak will carry the puck behind the Jets net and milk the rest of the clock and the game is over. Well, I think the our young Blackhawk team there had a good start and they got a little bit of humble pie from the veteran Winnipeg Jets team, especially that top line of Valardi, Connor, and uh Mark Shley. They really did make it look easy. They scored a couple big goals. Valardi with two goals. Uh Connor with the beauty goal and two assists. Uh Connor Helick was outstanding in net. He didn’t have to stand on his head, but he certainly made a number of good saves, quality saves, um, that that he really makes look easy. Other other goalies would fight these off. And I I feel like when he’s in there and the puck comes at him, even the hard saves look easy, John. Is that fair to say? Like, I think so. That’s uh it looks like a routine save for him where other guys would have a hard time doing it. Um, Winnipeg Jets, they’re top team for a reason. President’s trophy last year. This year, they’re off to a good start. They’ve added more depth like we talked about. They they uh they played a good game and they took it to the the young Blackhawks team. Six to three was the final score. It’s the first legit multiple goal loss the Blackhawks have sustained this season, Colin. They lost to the LA Kings 3 to1, but there was an empty net goal in that game.
