  1. Like I wrote before, those of you who thought Fitz would be swayed by Marky’s bad start…don’t know Fitz.

  2. Seriously? He’s only declining and Fitzgerald decides this is the right move to make?

  3. Not thrilled at that number, but it’s good insurance while we wait to see what we have with Malek and Yegorov.

  4. Honestly I’m not that mad at this. Basically paying $8M for the next two years for the Markstrom/Allen tandem. Could be better but definitely could be worse

  5. Not terrible on term and $$$. Not the biggest marky fan but are there alot of cost-effective alternatives on the market? We have alot of goalies in the system but no goalie is a sure thing

  6. Wonder what becomes of Daws now. He’s an RFA after this year. Not sure how that works with possible two-way contracts if it goes to arbitration. I’m not sure if he’s 1A material, but he could easily be a solid 1B or backup.

  7. I don’t think I’m loving this. If markstrom isn’t cheeks then fine I guess? I can’t put a finger on why, but this just seems like a bad call.

  8. If they believe in him, which they obviously do, doing it now makes the most sense. If he bounces back, which is more likely than not, he’d cost at least an extra 2 million per year

Kinda crazy how there’s a contingent of this fan base that has turned on the guy already. He hasn’t even played 5 games yet this season lol

  9. The best thing I can takeaway from this contract, is the brass definitely has high belief in Yegerov as a prospect. And I sure hope they’re right because he could be an absolute stud.

  10. It’s not as bad as people are making it seem. 2 years is good and 6M is a reasonable price for a goalie of his caliber and age. Hopefully it’s buyout friendly in the final year if it ever needs to come to that

  11. FYI this is basically a pay stagnation. His current contract, up this July 1 was a 6x$6m. Calgary retained and he makes 4.125 against OUR cap. His deal was around 7.3% of the cap when he signed in 2020, and will be around 5% of the cap when this extension expires.

  12. I think forest from the trees: the term is perfect plus two goaltenders for under 8M for the next two years sounds like a steal in my book.

zooming in: we see some flaws with the ages of our two goaltenders. it’s a risk to count so heavily on two guys who will be closer to 40 than 30.

AAV is maybe a bit too high for his actual value, but needed for him to take the lesser term deal.

let’s hope he finds his game this season quick.

  13. So if you think about this as a tandem signing, the Devils are spending a little under 8 million on their goalie tandem of Allen and Markstrom. That is 7.69% of next year’s cap and 7.07% of 27-28 season tied up in their 1A and 1B tandem. The contract doesn’t look terrible when viewed from a wider viewpoint. We should all be thankful that Allen signed a very team friendly deal.

  14. Take this with a grain of salt because I’m sloshed at Halloween party

This is awful based on the body of work he’s provided and contract talks shouldn’t gone into the spring. There’s probably trade protection too. This has the potential of sinking the team if he doesn’t get his shit in order

  15. Reasonable deal imo. I always thought 2 years was the sweet spot to have a solid timeframe for Yegorov to take over. AAV is pretty much the same as his current deal. With the rising cap and no other good goalie options not like we had better choices
