I get that many people are saying he’s gonna get some massive contract later to make it worth it, and he likely will, but unfortunately there’s no guarantee of such a thing.
He’s not arbitration eligible for another 3 years. For those 3 years, he’s going to make the MLB minimum of $780,000.
During those three years, he could get hurt, regress, or several other factors. There’s countless examples of people performing at their best in their rookie seasons.
I’m definitely rooting for the guy and hope he gets his bag. But guys like this as well as Skenes really show some of the problems with how baseball players are compensated.
