DECISION: #Saints’ Choice Of Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough Won’t Mean Much If Offense Stays Stagnant

Welcome to the car. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the New Orleans Saints after another frustrating loss this time to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But honestly, the game’s not the big story, right? The big story is that the Saints made a big time change at quarterback, benching Spencer Rattler in the third quarter after two turnovers in the first two quarters. And then they gave him kind of a chance, the offense as a whole, a chance to go out there and do something after the halftime break, which are usually scripted plays. That drive ended up netting -7 yards. After that, the Saints made their change. They go with Tyler Shuck per Kell Moore because he felt like he needed to find a way to give the New Orleans Saints a jolt or a spark rather on offense. To me, that’s a pretty big statement, right? Like that’s a statement that you make. It kind of says the opposite about the other guy. So now the whole conversation this week is going to be who’s going to start at quarterback. Will it be Tyler Shuck or will this go back to Spencer Rattler? And I’ll be honest, I think it’s going to be a little bit challenging to turn things back over to Spencer Rattler. Not because of anything having to do with Spencer Rattler, but because you’ve already come out and said, “We went to this guy to try to give a spark to the offense.” So, it feels very much that like if that’s the way that you feel about Tyler Shuck, then roll with Tyler Shuck. Like it’s logically consistent with what you’re going to do. But, we’ll see. They think they’re going to give it 48 hours and then make a decision. The good news is that Kell Moore was very, very clear that they’re going to make that decision and then give that starting quarterback all the reps that they need Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to be ready for this weekend’s matchup against or next weekend’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. So, we’ll be watching out for that. The bottom line here though, or one of the bigger points here, though, no matter who is that quarterback, the Saints have got to get something going on offense. It’s the fourth straight game to where as a team they’ve rushed for less than 100 yards. Over 50% of their rushing yards came from quarterbacks Spencer Rattler, Taesm Hill, or Tyler Shuck. And the Saints offense didn’t really get going through the air either with a lot of checkdowns and a lot of things continuing to be condensed close to the line of scrimmage. Maybe this is one of the reasons to maybe turn things over to another quarterback and give that quarterback an opportunity to go out there and be aggressive while playing with some house money. I don’t know. We’ll see which way the New Orleans Saints go. But I’m starting to believe, really, I’ve kind of been believing that the Saints problems on offense are far beyond just who’s playing at quarterback. There’s a lot that still needs to be done. We’ll have more for you. We’ll be back out at the facility tomorrow and then of course practice Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We’ll watch the car. I’ll tell you all about it.

  1. The Forbidden Subject… The Unspeakable Name of Taysom Hill at Qb…

Screw All You Paid For Saint Commentators who want to Stay in Good Graces with the Saints front Office Management.

A couple of Years ago you all 💩 all over Him saying he is NOT an NFL Qb, Now You Act as If He Is NOT THERE!!!

  2. Gayle benspn needs ro force mickey loomis into retirement!! No other franchise wants him. Sean payton is proving how bad loomis was as an executive in denver, co right now at 6-2 with bo nix as his qb.

  3. Kellem moore sabotaging rattler. I see same play every week. And shogh got it. And its different play. Still bet if he didnt bench rattler we get more point.

  4. I think the person calling plays has to look in the mirror the stats don’t lie you are poor team at yards per attempt, yards per catch, yards per run, points per game, undisciplined no spark offense in the league. This team has no identity on offense what so ever and that starts Kellen Moore. I don’t care what qb is in there you not winning with this offense which puts way more pressure on the defense which is also not very good either. Kellen Moore offense is to pass happy , I have feeling when it’s all said and done pass attempts vs run attempts is gone to be very lopsided to pass heavy which means teams don’t even need to scout your run game because it’s nonexistent. Yeah the offensive problems start which the offensive coaches

  5. KM and the OC became completely transparent today. They told us Neal would become relevant, that didn't happen just more of AK between the Tackles for Zero yardage. I thought it was Rattler ego making 90% Pass and Run but no these plays come from the sideline. These coaches don't know how to Run the ball.
    KM and the OC SUCK!

  6. First of all the players they’re using aren’t correct on a lot of plays. AK isn’t an up the middle back. Everyone needs to stop trying to make him one. He’s the change of pace guy. Neal should be the main back with Ak as the change of pace back. I don’t understand why nobody gets that. You changed quarterbacks because of turnovers and inconsistent play but you keep playing the same pass catchers that consistently drop the ball. Chris Olave the past year and a half doesn’t deserve any kind of extension. He may not be getting hurt this season but he’s forgotten how to catch the ball. You can say what you want about Shough’s interception but that was all on Olave. The ball was in your hands and you allowed the guy to take it from you. Olave should be benched as well. Actually he should be traded. Vele and Tipton should get way more time. The o-line should be decent but they can’t block for shit. So much for building through the line.

  7. It's not the QB. It's the coaching. It's the continued mistakes. It's the lack of consistency or creativity on offense. It's the program.

  8. I want Moore to start Shough next week so Moore can maybe see no one else is the problem. It's hmi! It's his coaching, play calling (Kamara 6 carries), and discipline techniques. Things will not get better at QB until Moore gets better.

  9. No coach wanted this Saints job so they settled on Moore, who apparently is not ready for the HC role. Saints don't need to wait this out very long. If Moore can't get the mistakes and penalties eliminated. It's all the sign they need to see. Move on at year end before it affects the players through a lack of accountability, like it did with Allen.

  10. 40 should have been a defensive tackle or end. Didn't need to stretch for a QB that was not there. Could have added usable depth.

  11. Where are all of the Rattled Rattler fanatics, each week a new excuse and he continues to prove them wrong… I guess y'all finally get it, because after the Buccaneers game, crickets!! Trash approves of Trash!!

  12. He put Shough in because Todd game plan was for Rattler. He said he not gonna do the swapping back and forth he just did it to see if they can get something going. He also said it was all of the offense that wasn’t clicking together. To me it sounds like Rattler still the guy.

  13. When I seen both QBs in preseason I thought rattler was a little better but when his size starts becoming an issue 6'5 220 4.6 40 has to start getting ready to learn to take over next year

  14. Rattler sucks and has always sucked. Shough may or may not be the long term answer, but at least he doesn't suck balls.

Saints still need to fill out the b e roster with solid players

  15. What gets me is that teams like Carolina will stick behind a decision at QB for 2 years and build a team around a QB and look good this year with him BY playing well, and the Saints won’t stick behind one they should and build around him for the future. Instead they undermine someone’s future uproot them , then throw a waste of a 2nd round pick in and probably lose worse than what they were . If they picked Dart, I’d be all in on him, but they swung and missed otherwise he would be playing since day one. They have way more problems on offense than a QB. Two OLine Guards need to go. You got a center that can’t stay healthy, you have a running back who can’t stay healthy, receivers and tight ends can’t block and catch balls. They fumble too. Then you have the play calling.
