Jerry Jones SAID WHAT? Dak Prescott understands the ‘frustrating’ comments | Get Up

All right, we are back on Get Up and to get to the Cowboys and a quote from Jerry Jones that is getting a lot of response not only from fans but also from his quarterback. Earlier this week, Jerry Jones admitted that he has been very busy with his natural gas business and his interests there. Too busy to spend time trying to fix his team’s sputtering defense. This is an interview he did with the Wall Street Journal. He said there’s a hundred billion dollars in present value with natural gas out there. That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense for the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott was asked about that yesterday. Right. You read the comment and and being honest with you, I don’t know the full full context of it. I do know that a piece of it and u but being a fan and you just read that or hear that. Yeah, of course. Um especially right as as many fans are and do and thankful that they do live and breathe by this team. Yeah, that that can that could definitely be frustrating. Um, but in that sense, I would just say like the guy’s never really lied about who he is or or what he’s trying to do. And I think right there he’s just I mean hopefully he was talking about in that one particular moment. You know, maybe in those five minutes is what he was alluding to and having a chance at hundred billion dollar opportunity. I think he might take five minutes as well and go and go answer a call. So hopefully that’s what he means, right? And um but I can see I can be frustrating once again for us as players. We control what we can control. I know that deck bite was long but we we felt important that we played the entire thing for you so you had the full context. So it cannot in any way seem as though and we would never have wanted to take anything he said out of context. I wanted Mike Tanab, our general manager in this conversation because now he’s talking about five minutes. I don’t know much about making a hundred billion dollars but I have a feeling you don’t do that in five minutes. So Jerry Jones were he was if if this was Woody Johnson or Robert Craft or any of the other owners in the NFL, you’d say, “Oh, great. Go make your hundred billion dollars.” But Jerry Jones is also the general manager of that team. So can you describe to us the trade deadline is next Tuesday. What is this week like for Howy Roseman? What is this week like for Daryl Muji? What is this week like for the guys who do that job? Gre for every trade you make, you’re probably making 20, 30, 40, 40 phone calls in terms of seeing what else is out there, what’s available, what do you have, surplus, and needs. Like, you are scouring because after Tuesday at 4:00, that is your last best chance to help your team for this season. Of course, there’s free agents and practice squad guys, but it’s really your last meaningful chance. And to be candid, a lot of GMs are seeing that footage and they’re saying, “I’m glad I’m competing against Jerry Jones because this is seven days a week, 24 hours a day.” And yeah, I’d love to make a hundred billion dollars as well, but we want to compete against people that are not all in. I’m not saying he’s not all in financially, but your heart and soul has to be in it every single day. That that’s the point I would make and I’d be curious to hear from the players here because, you know, yes, he’s a businessman. He should do business. We all saw land man. That’s awesome. I I I’m delighted for him that he found this opportunity, made all of this money. But the point is that if you’re going to be the general manager of a football team, that has to take up your every breath, your every waking thought, every ounce of energy, all of your blood and your sweat and your tears all the time. It is a full-time job. And whether he was just trying to be cheeky or not, that is a terrible thing in my opinion for him to say to the fans of the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah. From a former player’s perspective, you expect your general manager and your owner to be allin in every capacity, right? And your job as a general manager is to to is to exhaust every possibility to make your football team better. So, I I don’t know why Jerry thought it was a great idea to just state that out loud. Like, if you do feel that way, you can keep it to yourself. You don’t have to tell it to everyone. Maybe Jerry knows we’re going to talk about it. I don’t know. It’s But it’s just But it I don’t I don’t get it. 20 Look at Instagram. Look anywhere. Capitalism. Who’s got the most money? Who’s got the most crap? Who’s got the most stuff? I’m going to show you everything that I got. This is Jerry being Jerry and a lot of people are going to celebrate this and say, “Oh, hundred billion dollars. That’s awesome.” To your point, Howie Roseman’s on a by-week right now. Should be somewhere in Puerto Rico or Mexico. He’s dealing for Michael Carter in a seventh round pick and John Mechy. He doesn’t sleep. This is what he’s thinking about, right? Jerry right now is saying what everyone wants to hear because money is everything. But the truth is, if you’re a Cowboys fan, you’re like, can’t we talk about getting a backup tackle or a defense? Oh, and it’s not just one position on defense. It’s the defensive line. It’s the linebacker area. It’s the secondary. You need players at all three levels. So, you should be making calls. I’d say I’d say a lot of people are looking at me like Jerry’s a baller, right? He makes 100 billion, but probably not the guys in his locker room. Maybe. I don’t even know. Look at the juxiposition of Brian Shottr this Shottenheimer this week. You can take our offensive stats and you can shove them, you know, where and Jerry Jones, I just made a hundred billion dollars. I mean, those are the two big quotes from the two people, the most important people running the Dallas Cowboys. You have a new practice facility coming. That’s good for everybody. Back to the team. I mean, Jerry Jones showed you is showing you how the sausage is made, right? So to speak, like usually people don’t show you that pause, right? Usually people don’t show you that and and and talk about the details of the business side of how you operate and support your team. But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been on the phones even before this week was done about how do I trade for Trey Henderson? How do I get this player? How do I acquire that player? And it’s footprints, right? At sometimes, I’m sure you had assistant general managers that came out and helped you alongside to make some decisions while you went and took a phone call somewhere else. Yeah, but Bart, hold on a second. I go back to what Harry said and we had a sign that said every rock, every day, we were going to be systematically more relentless than anybody else. And everything changes every week. Like it’s reported that Andy Dalton broke a thumb. So now, like, does Carolina maybe need a quarterback? Like every single day there could be an opportunity either to make your team better or maybe it’s a draft choice to trade somebody. So again, when every GMC see that quote, I am telling you, they’re saying, “I’m glad I’m competing against Dallas.” And not only that part, and you’re probably right. Obviously, we can do 10 things at one time. I get that part of it. But don’t say that in an interview. It’s not funny. That was my point. Why are you saying this out loud? Jerry, guys, it’s like what it’s like what DMX said. When somebody shows you who they are, believe it. Jerry has always showed us exactly it’s about the dollar dollar bill, y’all. He has the most valuable franchise in North America, right? He does that because he’s all about showing you what I got. He shows you about his yacht. That’s how you get the attention, man. It’s all good. And those owners, there’s 31 of them and they all are into their crap and their money and who’s got the biggest yacht. You think it’s sick and gross. It is what it is. These guys have a lot of money and he’s just saying in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. I understand your point though and I’m validating it. I I think there are 31 other GMs who are hammering the phones right now and maybe Jerry’s not. But he’s been around long enough. Don’t think you can just pull one over the old guy. You know what I’m saying? Because you don’t know what he don’t know. I I’m not sure he knows what he does. I mean, they haven’t won a damn thing in 30 years. Exactly. Like he’s made a lot of money. I mean that I I hear what you’re saying and I want to make it clear. I’m not offended by him making the money. I’m offended by him being the general manager of the football team and and spending his time on making the money. A guy like Trey Hendrickson, he may or may not be available, but god forbid that, you know, they’re talking to Buffalo, right? And they go back to Dallas one more time. Dallas doesn’t pick up the phone and Cincinnati. I’m just picturing Brand What’s this? Brandon Bean. No, I don’t have time for this. Brandon, I’m gonna have to call you back. How How’s next Wednesday? Natural guests. I’m busy until then. Back. We have We have real We have real talented people in here. And then there’s the final. So, here we go. Lots of football to get to today. It began last night. Week nine starts in sunny South Florida. Lamar Jackson was back and better than ever after missing three games with a hamstring. Meanwhile, the Dolphins, well, they were in what they consider mid-season form, just giving the game away down or Dolphins up three nothing deep in their own territory. Taj Washington, Harry, this is his first NFL catch. Yeah, let me help the Baltimore Ravens. Why would you help the Baltimore Ravens? Have to have better ball security. Not the way you want to start off your career career if you’re that young man. Ravens. Thank you, Lane right there, Greeny. And then here we go. Turns into a fourth down play. Lamar Bart to Mark Andrews. Oh, reliable. This those two go together like peanut butter and jelly. That’s right. And then how what do we think of the hamstring? It looks pretty good, right? He’s extending the play here and he finds Isaiah likely 35 yards. Harry, you were saying a good job by him. Yeah, great job by Lamar Jackson uh avoiding the sack. I don’t know how that sack is mixed missed in that situation, but Lamar is Lamar Lam Marvelous. Here’s Lamarvelous again. That’s Mark Andrews again. A 20-yard touchdown. Ravens up 14-3. Peter, he was cooking all night long. Yeah, we’re getting guys back from injury, right? Likely he’s back on the field. Rocoan Smith is back on the field and Lamar looks like Lamar, which is a very good thing for Ravens fans. And then Tua looking like the Dolphins of 2025. That’s a fourth down pass to no one in particular. Uh Ravens up 14-6 at the half. Mike McDaniels frustrated. Third quarter, same score. Bart, how’s the hammy on Lamar look to you? You know what I’m saying? He kept it in third gear. He ain’t want to go to top gear. This Miami Dolphins. We’ll save that for somebody else. Later in the drive, first and goal, Baltimore. He’s finding everybody. How about Charlie Kohler? Let’s go. Third tight end that they’ve been using significantly. He had the touchdown last week against the Bears. Also a key part of this offense. This is the part of the game where I really started to worry about Miami season. This is the part of the game why sleep. Lamar Jackson. Then he’s finding Z Flowers for 39 yd gain. Lamar 18 of 23, 204 yds and four touchdowns. Here’s the fourth. Rashad Baitman. So, an easy night for Baltimore. Let me just show you the aftermath. You got John Harbaugh, he looks happy. You got the Ravens fans, they don’t look happy. You got Mike McDaniel running into the locker room. There’s still time left on the clock. If you can see down at the bottom of your screen, there’s still like 7 seconds left and he’s running off the field. It was that kind of night. Here was Lamar after with SVP. We feel good. You know, like you said, we got everybody coming back um healthy. Uh we just got to stay dialed in. you know, I know what’s ahead of us knowing it’s do or die right now. Uh starting a starting the season off extremely slow. We never been in this situation, not since I’ve been here, but you know, we just got to lock in and keep doing what we’re doing. That’s a two-time MVP for a reason. And um you know, he he looked incredible tonight. I know that we’re we’re just going to continue to get better and better and better and um you know, eight leading the charge. Um you know, we’re a dangerous team. Dangerous they are. In fact, uh, ESPN Bet Sports Back ESPN Sportsbook, excuse me, says there are more locks to win the division minus 150. This is a team that 5 days ago was 1 and5 and suddenly they’re running away and hiding with the division. But I want to put away the division conversation because you made the point earlier and I think it’s a fairly obvious one. That number is based more on how bad Vegas thinks the other teams are. Correct. Let’s talk about how good they are. Lamar Jackson and this Ravens team. This is a team that is going to be judged based on whether or not they finally get to a Super Bowl. Lamar Jackson and this Ravens team. Are they good enough to do that? Uh, not right now. No, not right now. I I I still don’t believe in them fully. I believe in Lamar Jackson. I believe in this offense, but there were some things I seen last night defensively. If Miami didn’t make the mistakes that they actually made, this game could have been a lot different in my opinion. I want to see this defense gradually continuously to get better and not have some of the mistakes I still seen last night versus the Miami Dolphins. I say shame on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals for not taking this team out when they could. Lamar was out of the game and out of the season and was down the on the rocks and they had Cooper Rush in there. They were losing games doing their part and those two teams couldn’t capitalize. The truth of the matter is this. Lamar Jackson when he is back in there, they are an entirely different team. They had this team dead and buried and they let the door open. I actually feel encouraged. They played great defense against the Bears two weeks ago and the offense looked good yesterday. They put that together. They are a viable candidate. Lamar, does he does he when he’s in there, what were the numbers you were giving us? Or when he’s playing Oh, 6.5 yards per attempt or yards per play, which would be number one in the NFL. It drops to like 5.1 without him. It is astronomical. Their offense is ridiculously good when he’s been on the field. It’s sort of been covered up by the fact that they keep losing these games because the defense has been so bad. Can he lead them where they want to go? He can lead them anywhere, but this defense le leaves a lot to be desired. Right? When you talk about Lamar Jackson, you watch all those highlights. What I see is a guy that’s really developed into a pocket passer as well. He uses his legs only when he has to when he feels like he has to take over the game. But this is a guy has tremendous pocket presence. He can make the big plays. He has weapons galore all over the place. They’ve really done a great job in kind of stacking his roster. But this defense, right? If you want to talk about Miami moved the ball, especially in the first half, up and down the field, they were they were averaging four over 4.5 yards per carry. If Lamar Jackson can’t get on the field because they can’t stop the run, right, then that makes this team vulnerable. They got a lot of work to do. Cindy, leave that number up on the screen a second. I I want everyone to sort of digest that. You made the comment earlier this morning. There’s an interesting bet. I’ll have you say what it is. When Lamar Jackson starts, they score 32 points a game. when he doesn’t, they score 14 points a game. That is the definition of value. He is 50 to one right now to win the MVP award. To convert that, you have to ask yourself this if it’s a good bet. That is a 1.9% chance of winning that award. Does anyone here feel that he has a greater than 1.9% chance of winning this award? Before you answer, 14 touchdowns to one interception. He’s got a better quarterback rating than Patrick Mahomes, your MVP favorite. He’s got a better completion percentage than Patrick Mahomes, your MVP favorite. His numbers are through the roof. And as long as they continue to win, think about the narrative late in the season when everyone says, “Oh my god, Jackson got healthy. Look what he did for this team coming off a year in which many feel he was snubbed when Josh Allen Granny, I can’t make this point enough. The voters, it’s not AI, it’s not an algorithm. The voters are humans and the voters are members of the media. It’s folks that you see on TV, people you read, and people you see on Instagram who are influencers. I mean, it’s that kind of way. you look at the the data of the people who are voting, this could be about the narrative. So, if this starts picking up steam and they start rattling off wins, it is not beyond comprehension that someone says they’re a better team with Lamar, they’re awful without Lamar. The word is valuable. And Joe, that might be a very good bet today. It’s an excellent point because you’re not just handicapping the football, you’re handicapping the voters. Two guys in mind that could probably stop that from happening for Lamar Jackson. Number one, Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts. If they continue to win with the schedule that they have, then I think people will sway towards Jonathan Taylor. And then also Drake May, if New England Patriots can go on and win the AFC East, I think that would be a bigger story as well too. Is it May the second shortest odds? He is. I one May’s too young. So they won’t they, you know, you you know how that usually works. They usually don’t give somebody the MVP award of the second year. Want it young? I’m saying but that was historic what he did. But also Jonathan Taylor is going to lose votes because of Daniel Jones is right there. So he’s going to miss it there. on Baker a couple weeks ago. The thing the thing is Lamar like Lamar Jackson’s going to have the stage set for him because he’s going to have those Steelers games late in the season against Aaron Rogers for the division to go take the lead and all those things. Remember he lost it last year in the last couple of games where Josh Allen stole it. He was the MVP, the runaway MVP all the way into the last two games of the season. So, leave it there for the moment on that side of the conversation. But I do think it’s important because MVP, that’s what’s always frustrated me is that MVP is a narrative award. They didn’t want to give it to Michael every year. Look how few MVPs Michael won. Look how few MVPs LeBron won. When they were clearly the best players in their league for a long time and then you look back, you know, 30 years later and you say, “Well, he won four MVPs. He should have won nine.” Okay, let’s put that conversation aside. The Dolphins. What did you say? They’re a little worried about their season. I’m a little worried about punch line or at the top. Coach is like running into the locker room before the final seconds have tipped off, which I don’t give. You say the Dolphins, I’m sitting up here embarrassed that the damn Falcons lost to the Dolphins. I mean, as well you should be. like like like I’m watching that game last night and and and Steve Levy text me. He said, “How did the Falcons lose to the Dolphins and and and I had to wake up at 2:53 a.m. to text Steve Levy back at that time and say, “Hell, we’re down bad right now.” Because they didn’t make the mistakes. If they don’t have three turnovers and 0 for three in the red zone, this is a different game. Especially early on, they got Lamar for the three and out. They were they were able to go down and move the ball easy on the Ravens. They just don’t know how to finish. Baltimore only had six more yards than Miami did. Six yards, but they had 22 more points. So, and that’s what really that’s what matters. And the Dolphins have two wins and it all seems to be it’s pretty clear that this is this this little era of Dolphins football is going to come to an end whenever they make those changes after the season and they’ll start something new. I’m going to I’m going to try and foresee something. We live in a world where Sam Darnold is a resurrected star. Baker Mayfield is a resurrected star. Daniel Jones is a resurrected star. And there are others. Is that Tua’s future? Do we believe I believe this franchise will at some point move forward without him. They have one more year sort of tied into him. Do you think Tua is a guy that five years from now are saying, “Oh my god, he’s an MVP candidate on a Super Bowl contending team in just insert some other push back a little. Those question I’m not.” It’s great. It’s great. I I would say that those guys were very low value $10 million one-year contract. Let’s give it a shot. Baker Mayfield picked up for nothing from the Rams and the Panthers. Tua makes crazy money. Tua makes franchise quarterback money. And when they hired Mike McDaniel, Mike’s entire pitch to Steven Ross and to that front office was I will get this guy over the top. I will be the guy. And they have a roster that is built for Tua. It is with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Wadd and those those Lamborghinis at running back. It’s all been already built for Tua to be this way. So to me, it’s what other coach is going to do a better job than McDaniel. And does Tua have it in him to say, “Okay, I will go city to city and team to team and be able to rise above.” I don’t know that answer. I do know that they put a full plate in front of him and they didn’t get the job done with him this year. So straight, that’s that’s why I look at this Miami Dolphins organization and I say, man, okay, we know to a salary next next year, we have to pay it. So why not draft a quarterback and whatever head coach that you bring in because clearly it’s going to be a new head coach in Miami. What if that head coach says, “You know what? I don’t want to be the third coach to have two as my quarterback. I want my guy. You draft that guy. You let two will be that quarterback for that year and then you move on. We’ve seen two organizations do it. Shawn Peyton, right? We’ve seen the Denver Broncos do it. They ate the salary with Russell Wilson and now look at their team. They’re leading the AFC West. We’ve seen the Philadelphia Eagles do it when they paid Carson Wentz and drafted Jaylen Herz. And what did they do? They went on to win went to one Super Bowl and lost it and then won one. It’s a great point. If if I’m a team, I’m hesitant because I don’t know Tula’s desire. I’m not speaking for Tula Tongalo. I don’t know him, but if I’ve had the medical history that he’s had, I would be hesitant on, you know, not making sure I have a quality of life later in life, like you when you you get to a certain point when you got your money where you have to decide like is it worth the risk? Especially if somebody wants to offer me a $10 million deal, it’s worth the risk if I’m making 30 $40 million because that’s generational money, money that can change my family. But with his medicals, I would be hesitant as a team to bring him in because I’ll be concerned if he takes another one of those bad hits. Give me a point. Too much of his success is dependent on Tyreek Hill. Great quarterbacks make those around them better. He’s a guy whose numbers before Tyreek Hill were one thing and then after Tyreek Hill’s injury are another thing. It’s all it’s Tyreek Hill that makes it’s a very interesting topic. [Music]

  1. That's boss talk. A lot of people don't understand that. Jerry cares about his franchise, but there is more to life than just football. Especially when there's 100 billion out there to acquire. Remove the salary cap from football, and you'll see just how much Jerry cares about winning football games.

  2. Jerry and Dak are both correct. Jerry has made it very clear over the last 10 years many of times across all kinds of platforms that he is not concerned with football only business. Including with football he’s focused on the money making of it not winning a superbowl. This is why i stopped being a fan years ago. He said it enough and shown it enough i believed him. Now we got Dak saying “he’s never lied about who he is” FACTS! This isn’t new. Jerry refuses to get a gm to do this job because when they’re win a superbowl it won’t be him getting the credit.

  3. Compare this with how the new colts owner is handling her business.

It's no secret why one team is flourishing and one is floundering right now

  4. JJ is not worried about a piece of hardware. His team is worth 13 billion. He wins a Superbowl EVERY season!! I refuse to go to another game until that mindset changes

  5. Since Jerry Jones doesn't have time to make the Cowboys better to turn the team into a 🏆 championship Super Bowl team, then step down 👇 from the General Manager role, and hire a General Manager who has the time to make the Cowboys better…. I'm just saying….😐😐😐😐😐

  6. MVP is the stupidest award. In ZERO universes does ANYONE with a brain think that Mahomes should be MVP. Last year, sure, but this year would just be PURE glaze.
This award hasn’t been “MVP” in FOREVER. It’s just popularity and stats, for some reason.

  7. Everyone is reading too deep into this. Its the other way around, hes basically telling them hes spending his time working on the team and the only reason they got a phone call with him was the money involved. Theyre just spinning a hard narrative

  8. I’m by no means an expert… but comparing Lamar’s numbers to Mahomes for example just seems dishonest from the get go. Lamar has played half the games of course his per game averages are better… smaller sample size typically leads to inflated stats. That being said Lamar has always been stellar in the regular season I remember last season EVERYONE talked about how he can’t win another MVP until he at least MAKES the Super Bowl. How fast people switch on this guy.

  9. It’s 2025 and people for some stupid reason are still debating whether or not Jerry Jones is a bad GM. The short answer is yes he sucks at this job and the Dallas Cowboys won’t win until he dies.

  10. I've what all of all have seen and Fluce is not the one, not with that scheme. I honestly don't know why he was hired. He hasn't shown anything anywhere else. Let him go and elevate someone that was there over the past few years. Not sure who, but he ain't it

  11. Why does anyone care what Jerry Jones does for 5 minutes of his day? There's literally 23 hours and 55 minutes of his day besides that (or 1435 minutes), who's to say he isn't doing Cowboys GM stuff then? Like are you guys at ESPN really this desperate for topics? Not to mention, do you really think every other NFL GM only does only football and nothing else?

  12. Disagree with Greeny totally! Jerry Jones OWNS and Manages his toy. He’s won three Super Bowls and doesn’t give two shits about that team anymore because he knows they’ve reached and hit their peak. He’s motivated by the $$$. The Cowboys generate $$$; win or lose!

  13. I’ll keep this short growing up as a Eagles fan was tough no wins no Superbowls No Hall of Fame “For who for what” But imagine being a cowboys fan now it’s like being a rich kid now your a poor adult that’s traumatic. Jerry is hilarious as old men normally sickly tend to be
