Today I’m flying solo, the people’s champ, Mr. Travis Rogers. He’ll be back on Monday. But we’ve got a jam-packed show. As you can tell, I’m very excited about the NFL trade deadline that is fast approaching on November 4th. The Rams have draft capital. They’re all in. They could improve their roster. They could get a guy to fill a need. They could get someone to take them over the top. Lots of options for the Rams. So, we’re going to get into that. Also, big questions the Rams need to answer after the buy. But first, this episode’s brought to you by Mazda. Like our players, we sweat every detail. Because when you make every move count, pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning. Stay tuned later for highlights in this week’s Moving the Game Forward. Mazda move and be moved. All right, so let’s get into it. We’ll have fun with this one just because it is the by-week, so we got to explore different avenues to improve this roster. And let’s talk about the trade deadline. And yes, we know that if you’re going to list off some needs for the Rams, you start at the quarterback position. Darius Williams, he’s played better of late. Last couple of weeks have been strong. Emanuel Forbes has played better. Kobe Durant, he has some good moments, some not so good moments. He’s been okay at times. Not a game changer. The Rams defense with Chris Schula, do they ask the quarterback to do everything? Not necessarily, but we’ve seen against the lead teams where quarterbacks for this team can get exposed. Just look at the second half against the Philadelphia Eagles when they used AJ Brown to pick on Daryus Williams. Look at Manuel Forbes getting picked on at times. And yes, you don’t have a Kella Witherspoon who is going to be back around week 14, week 15, possibly. He’s still returning from a broken clavicle. When he does return, the questions are how quickly can he get back in the mix? Two, will he perform like he did before the injury? He’s someone that has some high variance, too. some high ups, some low lows. I mean, it was great in the playoffs last year against the Vikings and the Eagles for the Rams. So, yeah, the hope definitely is that Aello can come back and contribute in some capacity. And if they don’t make a move for a quarterback, then there’s going to be a lot of expectations for it to come back and perform. And I certainly think he can do that. And look, I think if you’re the Rams, the first question is if you’re going to make a move for a quarterback, how much of an upgrade is that going to actually be? Is it a needle mover? Are there guys out there? I mean, we talked about the possibility of a sauce gardener, right? And yes, that would be a dream scenario as far as a guy with incredible talent, the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. They just signed him to a new deal back in July and that would require a first, two first, high draft capital. You have to pay him a lot of money. There’s that. And there’s no there’s no confirmation that he’s even going to be available. You can’t buy a house that’s not for sale. So, that’s kind of the problem with a guy like Sauce Gardner. But, how about someone like a like a guy that’s not on that tier, but can definitely help this team and would be an upgrade at that position. And I’m talking about Saints quarterback Alante Taylor. So, Alante Taylor, he could be available before the November 4th trade deadline. The Saints, they have been free falling all season at 1 and6 on the year. And Alante Taylor is still young. He’s 26 years old. He’s potentially just entering his prime. He already has really nice experience at that position. In 54 games, 244 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 44 passes defended, two interceptions, six sacks, and three force fumbles. So those stats right there, they highlight his versatility, right? He can get big and physical and he’s log time in the slot and the outside quarterback spot. 172 snaps at nickel, 117 on the boundary this season. So, he does have that positional flexibility that they like. I mean, you guys like Kobe Durant and Quinn Lake and guys you can kind of move around a little bit that certainly helps you in those spots. And I think what really you look at for for Taylor is this is someone that there’s no question would be an upgrade if he’s performing like we know he can. And you look at his PFF grade and of course take with a grain of salt. He has a 67.6 PFF coverage grade. That would make him the 33rd best among 112 qualified quarterbacks. has a 64.7 overall PFF grade, which would make a 43rd best overall cornerback in the league. And you kind of compare that to what you see with some of these Rams quarterbacks on the year. And yes, Daryus Williams last couple weeks have been strong for sure on the year. Williams has a higher grade than him. I mean, a 75.2 PF grade. That’s 10 out of 112 quarterback quarterbacks. So, you kind of look at that. I think Daryus Williams is going to stick. I really do. I think he’s building upon just the talent level that he’s already had, but he’s kind of figured some things out. The wild card for the Rams would be if you don’t think that that Forbes is going to be that guy long-term this year. That would kind of be it. Forbes a 58.9 overall PF grade. That’s 61 out of 112. So Taylor certainly an upgrade on that. And then you look at Kobe Durant where he sits this season overall. Kobe Durant on the year a 60.8 overall PFF grade. That’s 53rd. So I think Darius Williams is still building. I still like him. I really do. And I think that he brings that experience that you like as well. But Taylor definitely could be an upgrade to to Forbes, could be an upgrade to Kobe Durant. And even if things really click for him, it could be just a guy that’s entering his prime and hasn’t reached his potential. Daryl Williams 32, Taylor’s 26. So that’s a name that I keeping my eye on. I’m keeping my eye on Alante Taylor for sure just because, you know, the Saints should be sellers and you know that that certainly is a move worth considering just because hey, yes, I want the flashy player. Yes, I want all the big names. give me all the big names just because I truly believe this is a Rams team that shouldn’t limit themselves based on positional need. But let’s be honest, this the quarterback position is very relevant in the playoffs, in the postseason, and it can cost you if guys are getting cooked, guys are getting torched, guys are getting burnt, and they’re not able to have success at that position. And so it’s something where you really don’t have options that are going to be stepping into those roles as far as internal options that you think are game changers. I mean, we talk about the Dodgers on this show a lot. The Dodgers had one of the worst bullpens in Major League Baseball, but they somehow found a rookie and rookie Sasaki who’s turned out to be this dominant closer to close games for them and give them high leverage moments. There’s no Roki Sasaki just hanging around in the building for the Rams at that position. So if you want to upgrade at that position, you have to look externally and I already know that the Rams are being active. So if you’re saying to yourself, “Oh, the Rams should just roll with the what they have. They should wait for a Kell.” Well, let’s not let’s not dismiss what the Rams are doing because I can tell you behind the scenes, the Rams are active in looking at what cornerbacks could be available. Diane Rousini made that public by saying the Rams are one of a handful of teams that are making calls on cornerbacks. So, the Rams are doing their due diligence to add to that position. And the fact they’re doing that, that shows their actions aren’t consistent with what they’re saying. And what do we always say on this show? What don’t listen to what they say, watch what they do. Shawn McVey saying that he felt like he had four starting quarterbacks. Well, one of those, their best one, broke his clavicle and the rest have been up and down this season, hot and cold. So, behind the scenes, the Rams, they are looking for quarterbacks and they know that this defense to truly maximize and reach his potential, you have to add that position potentially. So, I would not be surprised to see him do it. Alante Taylor is kind of a name that I think makes a lot of sense in that mold. And if that is the case, they’re going to have to get something done in the next week or so. And it’s not going to be a big massive, oh, this is a taking draft capital. It’s not that. I mean, that’s the beauty of of the guys that are available outside of Assass Gardner, right? And he’s they’re not going to be going out and giving up top draft capital for a quarterback. If they were going to give top draft capital, it would be for the best players that are available. And there’s one that is a receiver. And I would know what you’re saying. Wait a minute. Rams already have puka. He’s a top five receiver. Devontams just caught three touchdowns. Why in the world would the Rams pursue a big flashy bigname receiver in the trade market? Well, I’ll tell you why and who that could be. That’s coming up next on Locked on Rams. This episode of Locked on Rams is brought to you by FanDuel. So lock in, watch or listen to every episode or do both and you won’t miss a thing about your favorite football team, the Los Angeles Rams. All right, here in our second segment, going to have fun with this one. gonna dream big on some possible splashy trade targets. And the question in this segment is, should the Rams make a call for Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.? Should they go after BTJ? Because the Jaguars are reportedly open to trading Brian Thomas Jr. and that is a massive name. Brian Thomas Jr., he emerged last season as an explosive wide receiver. We know that this is a guy that when he’s at his best, he could be one of the best receivers receivers in the league. He could be one of the best receivers in all of football if he realized that potential. And this year, he just has not had the year that they were hoping for. And a lot of that has to do with their offense. A lot of that has to do with Trevor Lawrence, in my opinion. I mean, Trevor Lawrence completing 58% of his passes, not seeing guys downfield. And if you look at Brian Thomas Jr. against the Rams, seven targets, three catches, 31 yards. Against the Seahawks, 10 targets, eight receptions, 90 yards, a touchdown. That really was his best game of the year. hasn’t had over 100 yards receiving this season or a multi-ouchdown game. But this Jaguars offense, they’re a dumpster fire. They rank 22nd in scoring, 26 in net yards, 29 in third down percentage, 21st in red zone. And Jacksonville, the most passing yards they’ve thrown for this season is 264. And that was against the Rams. So if that was the best version of their passing offense, you know they’re a dumpster fire. you know they are bad and what really makes it it just very stunning is that Brian Thomas Jr. through the first three games of the season had a 28% catch rate and those numbers have gone up as the season has has gone up has continued and progressed but still there’s a just not a connection there between Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr. There’s a disconnect. And we’re talking about a first round pick out of LSU. He had over,200 yardds receiving as a rookie. And his last six games of 2024, the dude straight up exploded. He had 50 catches for 675 yards, five touchdowns. He played more snaps with M. Jones than he did with Trevor Lawrence. And M. Jones showed the ability to get on the ball. I think this is a Trevor Lawrence problem. And I think that Brian Thomas his stock is on the low. His stock is on the low because of that. And that would be a reason to buy. That would be a reason to buy if you’re a potential team out there because the pedigree is there. The LSU wide receiver factory, the talent has certainly flashed. He’s young. He’s someone that you could build with for a long time. And the rumors started when Diana Rousini, she uh she kind of mentioned that hey that they’re just they’re not meshing well as far as Thomas and head coach Liam Conn and and Lawrence. So there is a couple things that you need to have the building blocks for a trade if you’re Brian Thomas Jr. the Rams or any team that’s could be interested in them. One, not happy there. Two, the Jags, they’re pretenders at that record. I don’t even believe it. They’re not they’re not a team that you could see being legitimate contenders. Even though they’ve had some wins, I do think that their Super Bowl was beating the Kansas City Chiefs. And the other thing, too, is the Rams and Jaguars, they have a lot of connections. And you look at the GM of the Jags, James Gladstone. He was someone that was a mentee of Lesne. And if less Sneeed wanted to think in the future, and think about this, why would you want to trade for a receiver if you’re the Rams? Well, this could be Devonte Adams last year with the Rams. They don’t need to bring him back next season. And yes, things have been better for sure, but that’s how these things work. Sometimes it’s a one-year thing, and he’s on the older side. The cliff could be coming and that just could be the case. Puka is a guy that Bryant Thomas Jr. could open things up for and vice versa. And the other thing, too, is this is less we’re talking about, ladies and gentlemen. He’s going to do things that are against the grain, things that you can’t predict sometimes. And you look at the moves he has made. He’s the same GM that traded for Sammy Watkins. He got Brandon Cooks. He traded for Jaylen Ramsey. He brought in Odell Beckham Jr. They have been interested in adding receivers. They wanted to get a a Romo Dunay a couple years ago in the draft. There was some talk that they were interested in signing and getting Mike Evans on the Bucks. He’s wanted a guy and then Devonte Dams did fill that role in a bigname receiver, but that could the way that contract is structured, it could easily be a one-year thing from the Rams standpoint and Devonte Adams standpoint. So, there is no guarantee that he’s a long-term fit cuz he’s just not a long-term fit, but even a two-year fit for him. And that connection also goes Brad Holmes was uh the the guy that was in the middle of the Matthew Stafford deal in Detroit. So, even though that has nothing to do with Pukanakua. So, even though Pukanakua is a guy who I think is a top three receiver in this league, he has dealt with some injuries for sure. But I I I think it has to do with that fact that look how many targets Puka gets. He leads the NFL with 65 targets, even missing a game. So that tells you that long-term, I think one of the goals that the Rams need to to have. And one of the things they need to address is making sure that the workload for Puka isn’t always, hey, let’s just spam Puka because we know what that leads to. That leads to injuries. And Devonte Adams is right behind Puganaku with 63 targets. And the thing is that that you look at where Adams is and he’s he’s getting 6.8 yards per target. He is Adams is the lowest catch percentage of his career at 49.2%. Now I think this is a move that that could look I mean I don’t know how happy Devont Adams would be if you would trade for him and that could shade things up and I’m just kind of having fun with this one. But if you did have have those guys, I mean, you’re talking about the best three receivers in the league at the same time. I mean, as far as a trio, right, as far as how those guys add up with Puka and Thomas and Devontams, and we’ve seen with this team, I mean, whether it be a a Ricky P, right, with a with Isaac Bruce and a Tory Hull, this is a a team that historically can go with more than just two really good receivers. And if you had Thomas and Adams, they were split out wide, just imagine what that would do for Pukanakua in the slot. I mean, this is a guy who could wreak havoc similar to what we saw Cooper Cup do in 2021 for opposing defenses. I mean, this could really make them just an absolute unstoppable receiving core. I mean, it’s it’s just it’s just fun to think about. I mean, and two, from a from a money standpoint, financially, Thomas is still on his rookie contract through 2028. Does have that fifth year option. He’s the type of player that if he’s available at this age and you can get a deal done, you absolutely pursue that because then not only do you have him in your building under a affordable deal and the Capitals draft capital, well, hey, then he doesn’t go to a team that could trade for him, right? A team that could be a contender that you’re competing with, a team like the 49ers. You don’t want to see that. We know the 49ers, they were the team that got CMC when the Rams were interested in CMC. Seahawks, imagine pairing him with Jackson Smith and Jigba. Who knows? I mean, that is uh that is these are all possibilities. You have to think one step ahead. You absolutely have to think one step ahead. And I I like the reason why I’m so adamant on pursuing a a receiver or not even a receiver, just a game-changing player is just look at last year’s draft. And everyone likes to hug draft picks, right? These picks, I mean, they mean something for sure, but sometimes it’s they don’t mean as much as you think they do. Think about last year’s draft. the Rams, you had the you had the picks, the six ones after you you trade away your first round pick to have opportunities to add players at the trade deadline or use that to get another quarterback, Matthew Stafford’s successor in the upcoming draft. But think about the guys they did get. Ferguson, they got with their highest pick, number 46 overall. He I think is going to be a difference maker after the buy, but he’s played very seldomly. Yes, he was injured with the groin. Yes, tight end is not easy to just pick up, especially in this offense. But look at Jarquz Hunter hasn’t played and then they let their fifth round pick just walk away. So, it’s not like they are putting such a premium on these draft picks anyway. And then you look at this year, the Super Bowl window is now. It really is. Matthew Stafford is 37. There’s no reason to hoard picks when you can get younger and approven and established players that are ready to go right now. I mean, I I I certainly think they should they should and they honestly need to trade those picks in my opinion. I just hate this whole notion that you just have to save the picks to bolster the team later when the time is now. I mean, who knows what happens in in the future, but I think you look at this team right now and who knows? I mean, look at a guy like a the the Dolphins. The Dolphins, they could trade a chain. What if you traded away Corman a pick for Achain and he took this running back’s room to another level? Like, I I think that this whole idea that they’re only going to trade top picks for positions of need is ridiculous. Quite frankly, I think that there should be something up their sleeve. There should be something that could surprise you. And it’s about getting premium star talent with those picks at game-changing positions. And I’m really excited to see what Lesne needed can do at the deadline. Would I take a fly on BTJ? I absolutely would. 100%. I really would. Uh I’m trying to win in in 2025. And I know you’re probably saying, “Well, Matthew Stafford, he can still go, so he’ll be back next year.” Sure. There’s no guarantees. There’s no guarantees that he’s going to be able to stay healthy when the cliff is going to come. All I know is that they have an MVP caliber quarterback right now. All I know is they have an MVP level receiver right now and a Devontams that could be here for one year and a defense that is one of the best in the league right now and a competition level around the league where I don’t see any juggernauts. It’s about 2025. It really is. FM picks parades over prospects. All right, coming up next, we got some more questions about the second half of the season. That’s coming up next on Locked on Rams. This episode of Locked on Rams is brought to you by Mazda’s Moving the Game Forward. For those who believe it’s not just about playing the game, it’s about redefining it. There are moments that do more than put points on the board. They move crowds, move culture, and keep moving the game forward. This week’s moment that moved the game forward is Matthew Stafford’s no look pass to Devonte Adams. Another touchdown for Stafford. Five touchdowns against the Jaguars. No interceptions. Was the first five touchdown game in an international game. Of course, the Rams being the Jags in London. And Stafford’s played like an MVP. 37 doesn’t matter. Back issue doesn’t matter. he has delivered this year and just has an incredible impact on this team. Just keeps moving the Rams forward. So, when you follow what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning. And just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to a Mazda vehicle. Mazda, move and be moved. And welcome back to Locked On Rams. Thank you for making Locked on Rams your first listen every single weekday. free and available wherever your podcast locked on Rams part of locked on podcast network your team every day. Okay, here in our third segment we’re going to start the afterby question series. Questions the Rams need to answer after the buy. And the first one is will Terrence Ferguson, the Rams rookie tight end out of Oregon, will he be a guy that’s going to have an impact? Will he be a guy that’s going to play? Because if the Rams are going to use more 12, we saw him use 13 personnel. Well, the tight end becomes a much more significant position group on the field. And while you’ve seen some flashes, the thing with Ferguson is we just haven’t seen enough. And he got his first career touchdown, 31 yard, nice little fade on the seam, great ball by Matthew Stafford. He’s seen what he can do. And also the blocking grade was impressive. There’s this reputation that he’s had, this narrative about him that he can block and he he certainly the effort was there. He was willing to block. He was a willing blocker. And I need to see this offense with a dynamic tight end, especially if you’re not going to add anywhere else. and Tyler Higgby drop key passes, ones on third down. Kobe Park, Davis Allen, they do what they can for sure, but they don’t have this deep stretch level upside that Ferguson has. And he needs to be used as a downfield weapon because there is a a vertical threat that’s there in Terren Ferguson. And yes, there has been some times where 22 out has done that. we saw against the Colts. He’s a guy that can absolutely step and make those plays. Atwell did play just 10 snaps last week. And there was other receivers he did kind of do on the hamstring, but other guys were in the the 20s and and there’s guys I mean Mfield had his first career touchdown and Jordan Winningington had some opportunities. So yeah, I mean that’s a major question that for me to ask Shawn McVey is hey how are we using Terren Ferguson in the second half of the season? We are talking about a dude who’s 6’5, has four fig, has 46 speed, is a mismatch nightmare, and it’s time to take off those training wheels. It’s time to take off those kid gloves. And I’m hoping this extra week of the buy allows him to continue to familiarize himself with the Rams playbook and for Shawn McVey to find some packages to utilize his strengths because I think now is the time to reduce Tyler Higgby and increase Terence Ferguson. The time is now. I love you Tyler Higgby. You can make the case the best tight end in Rams history. That’s all good and fine. But remember, we are viewing this season as Super Bowl or it’s a failure. Uh that’s the only way. This is Los Angeles. This is city of champions. Okay? If you don’t win a Super Bowl when you’re all in, it’s considered a failure. And that’s why it is imperative to see if Terrence Ferguson can handle an increased role. Cuz if he can, then you keep going to him. If he can’t, then you got to kind of change some things up around as far as your attack plan. But that is going to do it for this episode of Locked On Rams. My name is Doug McCain. You can follow me on X and Instagram at dmac_la. And until next time, whose house it’s locked on Rams house?

  1. If I'm going to make a trade for a WR it's going be for someone like Tee Higgins. However, I wouldn't do that until the off-season. I would not trade for a WR this year.

  2. Our db's are improving each week, we don't need receivers, we just need to figure out how to keep as many of our players as we can ^✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

  3. Love your show D Mac but please stop with these fake hypothetical trade videos that are absolutely worthless. Please stick to opinions about actual Ram facts, real news and reality

  4. First you’re suggesting we dump our 1st rounders for a CB who really hasn’t shown much in Sauce Gardner. Now you’re suggesting we trade for BTJ when we already have a phenomenal receiver room? Who are you putting as WR3 or benching when running multiple TEs DMac? Puka, Tae, or BTJ? Do you also want to dump upper draft picks for him? Sometimes I think you just like to hear yourself talk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. I’m with you Dmac , Devante is only on 2 year dear , but he can leave at the end of this year and outside of puca we don’t have anyone that takes pressure off him . It’s like when they got obj .

  6. With the niners loss, I was surprised that in the standings, the rams are still like 5th place or something 😢 it’s the Seahawks that are in a higher seed than us. It’s goi bc to be a dogfight til the end I think to make the playoffs and get a good spot

  7. The ball does not get spreaded enough to worry about receivers. When puka comes back he will again be the only one to get the ball. Its sickening honestly. Get another cb.

  8. Come on D Mac, if the Rams are going to trade and I believe they are not it should be for an offensive lineman or a cornerback period!

And that receiver from Jacksonville is overrated. He drops balls constantly because he’s thinking about the hit and not securing the ball.

So that has nothing to do with Trevor Lawrence throwing him the ball as you saw in the ram game he dropped two very catchable balls that would’ve extended drives that were perfectly thrown.

The Rams are going to live and die with the roster they have but ultimately, and I hope I’m wrong. I just don’t see them beating teams like the Lions, the Packers, and the Eagles.
You could say what you want about McVay, but until he beats one of those teams when it counts, and he has not so far, I will have my doubts !
And you’re talking like this is major league baseball or the NHL where teams trade away players if it appears they are not making the playoffs. In the NFL teams don’t trade away good players. They are trying to build on those players. Maybe they lose those players when a contract is up and they can’t come to an agreement. And can we please concentrate on this year and stop thinking about next year?
    Thank you so much

  9. Rams showed they need another receiver when Puca was out. They have three good tight ends. If they want another RB then give the Jets a 4th for Breece Hall OR trade for OL John Simpson from the Jets

  10. I love this show!
You guys are spot on. Yes please get that corner spot filled. Also, what about an extra O-line man. I really don’t want to ever see Beaux Limmer lined up across from Jalen Carter with the chips on the line ever again.

  11. Only reason I’d think WR is inconsistent TE play and not using TuTu/he’s injured. It’s never bad to have another weapon. Like when we got OBJ to matchup with Kupp and Woods. Unfortunately woods got hurt before they even got a game together but you make it impossible for a defense when you have that many weapons
