  1. I was optimistic, but not realistic about the game against the Ducks. Back to back, this team is not good enough to handle it.

On another note, the number of giveaways are growing. That is not good. Not enough hitting and consistency in forechecking. Not the best from the typical. Of course, too many shorthanded opportunities.

Finally, coaching is not learning their lesson. 1/8 on the PP and still keeping Seider on the top PP. Yeah, that is working out great. With ASP, you are going to get more shots toward the net and more. Yes, I know that will make some irate. Regardless, it (the PP) is not working and it is very noticeable.

  2. I’m not so upset THAT we lost (I didn’t have a ton of hope going into this game – I knew they were going to be tired, there are existing/continuing issues, etc) but the manner in which we lost kinda really sucked (not just because of the reffing, though that definitely had an effect). Hopefully we can hit the reset button and have a better showing tomorrow.

  3. Haven’t really been following prospects this season as much due to the excitement around the Wings, so I took some time to have a look.

My god, there is so much more yet to come. Some things that surprised me:

Max Plante (2nd rounder ’24) leads the entire NCAA in points with 18 in 9 GP. Centers one of the best lines in college hockey on one of the best teams in college hockey. Huge 4 pt night yesterday.

Brent Solomon (4th rounder ’25) leads his team & the USHL in points with 17 points in 13 GP. Don’t know where this came from, he barely played in the USHL last season and certainly didn’t kick in any doors. This year, he’s off to an incredible start on a great team.

Eddie Genborg (2nd rounder, ’25) is producing nicely on Timra in the SHL. Through 17 games, he’s on a better point pace than Raymond in his D+1. he certainly doesn’t have the upside that Raymond had, but it’s still great to see him stick & produce in a men’s league at 18.

While Michal Svrcek (4th rounder ’25) hasn’t been able to fully stick to the SHL, he’s lighting up the J20.

And this is just the skaters. The goalies, albeit partially small sample, have also had a great start.

Michal Pradal (3rd rounder, ’25) has a .911 through 12 games in the USHL, improving on his .899 through 14 in the same league last year.

The Griffins goalies have insane numbers. Cossa (1st rounder, 2021) and Michal Postava (undrafted Czech goalie, 23 y/o) both have a sv% above .930 and are a combined 6-0.

Trey Augustine (2nd rounder, ’23) is his usual robotic self at .923 at Michigan State.

Carter Gylander (7th rounder, ’19) also sits at a .923 in the ECHL. Poor guy has to deal with the insane goalie log jam the Wings have.

The primary conclusion: Draft more guys named Michal. Michal supremacy.

  4. I’m excited for Danielson and Plante the most, plante might be the steal of that draft.

  5. Do the Pistons need a forward who can set picks? Maybe we’ll finally find a use for Compher in Detroit.

  6. If there’s any more than 30 seconds left on an eBay auction, WHY are we bidding on it? All you’re doing is driving the price up.

  7. I will say if Gibson doesn’t get his shit together at some point this season we could be in trouble. We’re stuck with him for a few more years and Talbot has been the more reliable goalie. I don’t know how many years old man Talbot has left in him.

  8. Games stolen by the refs happen. Get back to it and win the next one. We are still 8-4 and in an amazing position.

  9. I think I’m noticing a pattern, something that was exposed when Tampa Bay sent us to OT. I’m seeing a lot of “double screens”, where the opposing team is plopping two guys net front, and instead of clearing them out, we grab them a sandwich and ask if they’re comfortable.

Reference the McTavish goal, Anaheim’s 3rd, last night to see what I mean.

  10. Max Plants is a player. Leading NCAA as a sophomore. Could be top line for USA world juniors. Hope he continues to kill it

  11. 2/3 so far on the road that featured 3 games in 4 nights, and only losing the back to back, is perfectly acceptable.

Yeah they lost last night and didn’t have the juice. Travel and compressed schedule will do that. The ducks had 2 days of rest.

Wasn’t happy with the goal being called off, immediately into Wes letting a clear call go that led to a ducks goal. But I think we’ve been conditioned by this point to expect stuff like this to happen several times a season (remember the Columbus outdoors game, thrown stick, etc?).

Win against the sharks on Sunday and we cement 3/5 on the road with the possibility of going 4/5.

  12. It’s annoying the Ducks caught us playing our worst hockey on a back to back. Why can’t we do that once in awhile?

  13. The only thing that concerns me from last night is they gave up another shorty breakaway and now every team will be jumping those plays.

The sooner Kane gets back the better
