Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, Todd McLellan Post Game Comments @ ANA | Oct. 31, 2025

What do you take away from a game like this? Um, overall very disappointing. I think we got to come up with a better game plan, especially for such a meaningful game. Um, first and foremost for Gibby. Um, unacceptable to kind of let him hang in there sometimes. Um, and then obviously frustration takes over. You get away from your game a little bit and then you look at a score like that. Um, got to just regroup. use a use a day tomorrow to to really dial it back in and got a lot of a road trip still ahead of us to to make it a really good and meaningful trip. Is it are there as as fast as an opponent as you play it? Was that um their speed, how much trouble did that give you? I think early on we’re just overwhelmed. We uh couldn’t really find the answers to it. Um I think we got a lot better in the game, but um I think the starts are are a little bit of an issue right now that we got to address and and got to fix. And obviously we’re a fast team. I think we can play with them. We can outplay them, but uh we didn’t tonight. And that’s um frustrating. Several short-handed chances you guys have given up the last couple games. Anything that you can put your finger on as to what’s going on there? Yeah, we just got got to be better. I think it’s a huge part of the game. Um we can take over in those situations and we can lose momentum and that’s what we did. I mean, at least we answered. Um but yeah, that that can happen for sure. Did those penalties cause still a loss of momentum also? Um maybe maybe not. Uh I think uh I think we got a good we got a really good PK. I think that usually gains us a little bit of momentum and um got us in there. Um obviously eventually I think you’re going to give up something if you just keep getting those penalties. Overall, I think um I think that can’t be an excuse. Maurice opening schedule looked really tough when October began. How do you think you guys have fared overall? Um, I think we’re okay. Obviously, uh, wanted to start better at home. Um, and now we just got to fix the road. I think that’s that’s the biggest issue right now. We can’t really, um, find the answers on the road. I think we just got to be a lot more um, detailed, a lot more simple with the puck. Just keeping it really, really simple uh, on and off our tapes um, in behind their D and then just really work on on a really good road game. and we just couldn’t really do that over over a lot of um a lot of the periods uh lately. Thank you. Um I think we gave our ourselves uh a lot of trouble out there tonight and I think it was uh more so a lot of self-inflicted stuff out there for us and um yeah, not not good enough. probably a factor with the penalties especially the third period you guys are trying to start a comeback and you know so many penalties in the third. Yeah, I mean obviously uh you know you want to stay off the out of the box but at the same time we we had plenty of looks on the on the power play to to get one and um you know in a tie game like that where uh you know chances go back and forth power play PK you you need to be efficient. You need to to capitalize on those moments and um yeah you guys are a month into the season now. What kind of has stood out to you? What was that? You guys are a month into the season. What has stood out to you overall about the way you played? Uh, you know, if you look at this all the games combined, I think we we played some really good hockey and uh we know we’re a really good hockey team and uh we know what we’re we’re capable of. I think a big thing for us has been our starts and and um you know tonight that was no different. We we didn’t really come out the way we wanted to and um you know kind of build ourselves into the game but today was it was too late. Um but I mean you look at the season as a whole so far I think we we played a lot of good hockey. We we know what to do to be successful out there. It’s about going out there and executing it. Do you think the overall defense has to be a bit better too because there’s been some games where both John and Cam have really faced a lot of tough chances. Yeah, I mean for sure they’re two really good goalies and they’re they’re big part of our team and uh that’s a part of it too. Um you know I think our our defense is good. I think our uh penalt has been has been really good. That’s a huge part of it. Um you know you look at obviously last game against LA they scored two but it’s on an empty net. So um you know I’d say that’s pretty good. Um so uh they’re they’re a huge part of our team and obviously it helps us a lot when they play the way they are doing. They were obviously able to get some looks on the rush tonight. that wasn’t something you guys had given up to really start this trip. What was different tonight? Yeah. Um, you know, it’s it’s uh same thing there. It’s self-inflicted. Like a lot of teams play fast, they play long. This team especially um we knew that coming into the game. It was it was about taking care of it, staying above their their F3 especially uh you know not giving up those rush chances and um you know that that was the thing that they created a lot of momentum off and um yeah like I said that that that would be something we needed to take care of tonight. Thanks RQ. Todd, your thoughts on how the way tonight’s game played out? Well, this is going to sound strange. I thought our bodies wanted to go but our brains didn’t. And uh at the end of the night, that probably cost us uh some of our um our our problems in the past. Reared their heads again in the first period. A few outnumbered rushes on on real poor decisions, including the the power play and and all of a sudden you’re chasing the game. And that’s it’s tough to do when you’re on the road and and you’re playing back to back, but um I still think we gave ourselves a chance, but power play didn’t get us uh what it needed to and we couldn’t get the kill at the end. So, special teams probably uh sealed it for them. A couple of players mentioned starts overall. What is your thoughts on that they haven’t? Yeah, you know what? There’s been some poor starts. There’s been some good starts. Uh it’s it’s all over the map right now. Um the start in LA last night when you get out here sometimes you got to get skating and it’s it’s I’ve seen it. We’ve been out here for so long back to back you got to get your legs again. So, um, while you’re doing that, you have to play smart, intelligent hockey and and I don’t think we did that tonight in in any case. Um, you know, as I said, uh, I think the bodies wanted to go, but the brains were were in in neutral for most of the night and and it cost us. You have such a fast-paced game. Is part of it not being able to slow the other team down, slow the game down a little bit? Uh, no. I don’t think that’s the case. Uh, I think when we’re playing fast, we’re we’re fast offensively and defensively. Um, you know, tonight, uh, I just think of the first two goals alone, like we we’re playing in their end. We’re we’re on the power play and we’re all playing on the outside. We make a mistake, they’re gone. Uh, the second goal, we come down, we’re on we’re on our own threeon two and we turn it over and trigger a threeon one back the other way. Just uh that has nothing to do with pace or speed or slowing anybody down. That’s just uh flat out unint unintelligent hockey. What have you thought of the team overall this first month? Cuz there have been some very good stretches and then some bafflingly bad stretches. Yeah. Well, we’re Hey, you know what? We’re trying to figure things out. Um we’re going to have some good days. We’re going to have bad stretches. We’re going to need practice time. We’re going to need rest. Um you know, last time I checked, we’re a team that’s just trying to really work hard to get into the playoffs. So, we’ve got a lot of learning lessons. Um, we’ve got some young players that are just really feeling their way through. Right now, at this time of the year, it gets a little tougher. Travel gets heavier. The the teams have settled in with their rosters. Um, we’ve got veterans that we’ve got a lot out of so far and some that we need more from. So, we’re a mixed bag at this point, but um, we have opportunity for growth and we’re looking forward to to getting better. And speaking of veterans, anything new on Patrick? No. Um, I don’t have an update there at all. Um, as I said when we left, there was a chance he would join us on the trip. Um, I know he’s not flying in tonight. I’m not sure what’s happening tomorrow. His score tonight was I think 1% but a couple last night, but then also giving up a lot of chances the other way, I guess. What does that tell you about what that unit is doing right now? Well, um, you know, tonight was the second unit that got scored on. I I think it was the second unit actually that got scored on last night, too. So, um, you still have to understand the risk or or recognize danger on on the power play. It’s not just all offense. And, um, mindset changes a little bit. You just think offense, think offense. And as things begin to evolve and happen, um, you have to play common sense hockey. You got to be able to cover for for breakdowns. And we just cheated on the wrong side of the puck both nights and it was in our net. the amount of special teams in the third period. How did that affect what that period looked like for you? Well, we had hoped it would go our way. Um, you know, coming out we’re 3-2. We worked ourselves back into a game and we take a penalty 45 seconds in. That’s that’s not the way we wanted to start the period. And and really it was a needless penalty. One player around three of us, he wasn’t going anywhere. So, and then we didn’t get the kill done. All of a sudden, two is uh is a big hole to come back in. Thank you. Sorry.

  1. probably our 'best' loss of the year. breaks finally went against us and unlike our other 3 losses we kept with it and played fairly well. those west coast b2b can be tough so regroup and find a way to hopefully get 3 points in the next two games.

  2. Wow am I glad that Todd is the coach. Accountability, and actual correct reads. If issues can be correctly identified, they can be fixed. Onto the next fellas.

  3. This team has so many holes defensively and in goal. Nice start to the season but clearly won’t remain this way. I’d rather tank for McKenna this team clearly isn’t a contender with 2 washed goalies

  4. There's no way that Seider goal was a kicking motion haha! And there's no way they can 100% say that puck was going in for the 4th Ducks "Goal". Wes McCauley is a joke of a ref. Gibson wasn't great tonight and tbh I would've switched the goalie rotation for these games. I don't care for sentimental crap in sports. Defence is way too weak and soft and they've gotten away with a lot this season. ASP needs time in GR tbh.

  5. "power play didn't get us what it needed to"

And hasn't since Finnie was absurdly put on top line in Kane's absence. And can literally only score w Kane out when the other 4 guys actively exclude Finnie from the play and play a 4 man game and score on their first chance right away. Any time the power play runs on, any time Finnie has to handle it or be a part of it, they can't score.

So… why is he on the unit?

  6. "i think it was the 2nd unit that got scored on last night, too"

No, Todd, in LA it was the FIRST UNIT that got scored on. Emmitt Finnie got directly scored on. It's amazing how this guy remembers things the way he wants to to justify his terrible decisions.

  7. ASP looked so slow, got beat multiple times. Hopefully he can bounce back with a days rest.
They also need to put JVR on pp1. Finnie cant match the skill yet.

  8. That was bar none the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Should honestly be investigated for sports gambling. Truly stunning that seider goal was a no goal. Absolutely the worst call i have ever seen.

  9. The cancelled Seider goal and the allowed goal when the net was off were the league's paybacks for LA the night before.

  10. Yes, the refs did blow a number of calls, but the Wings probably lost bc you just gotta call the problem they have for what it is, and I think this is what it is: Mo Seider may be a defensive tactician on the ice, but until he has skills on how to be an offensive defenseman, which he IS NOT, the Wings are burning their chances on the power play. You all may think it's too early in his career, but I think Sandin-Pelikka needs to run the power play as much as possible, and probably have either Edvinnson or Johansson out there when a power play is under way. Doesn't anybody see how goofy Seider likes trying to run the power play with the first line? Seider is right about coming up with a different plan, and that would be to place him the majority of time on PK, and maybe have him as a backup or last resort on the power play. Wings are trying to turn Seider into some power play specialist, which HE IS NOT. Sandin-Pelikka has so much more finesse and should run the majority of the power play, and Seider should be on PK the majority of the time, and those 2 can work on doing what they can to improve their weaknesses on the ice: Seider needs lots of practice improving his power play skills, and Sandin-Pelikka needs to spend additional practice time improving his defensive play. Seider looke like a good trying to run a power play and looks way too predictable and timid at the blue line. I had hoped that McClellan would have noticed that by now, but it doesn't look like he has. They can't turn Seider into Nick Lidstrom. It ain't gonna happen, at least not in the short term. Nick Lidstrom was a tall man, like Seider, but was an offensive defenseman like Sandin-Pelikka. Wings need to get with the program, or as Seider said, change "the plan," or the outcome of future games will continue to be like this one. The Wings' power play, the majority of the time, should include the following on their first line until further notice: Sandin-Pelikka, Edvinnson or Johansson, Larkin, Raymond or Finnie, DeBrincat. They should at least try it out that way and see how it goes. Mo Seider is an eye sore out there when he's trying to run the power play.

  11. Its clear that we have to play top end hockey because the NHL doesnt like us very much. (Draft, calls, market teams that need to win) So the boys need to see the playing field is not fare. Lace them up and go get it.

  12. So basic. Detroit over man's the puck in the O zone. Nobody on weak side. Puck comes right back out and now we have 3 forwards constantly caught late on the back check. Quinville is constant 2-1-2.

  13. Hit the F’ing Net Seider! !
You should be swapped with ASP on PP Units.. you either get a shot blocked and exits the zone, or it smashes the end boards or glass..
    come on bro

  14. It's hilarious listening to NHL player post game interviews when they loose it's" We need to do better etc " when they win it's " we played physical we had good pp etc". It must be tiring having to answer the same questions over and my heart breaks for the the teams that were they have to answer over and over again "we need to do better " imagine being a player on a team losing 70 of 82 games must sounding like a parrot 🦜 at that point;)).

  15. Skate goal counts. Net off its morings goal shouldn't of counted. Constantly getting raped taking the puck down the middle of the ice only to get ½ the calls. The Ducks were gifted a W

  16. NBA refs were caught betting on the games they officiate. It’s not far fetched to assume it’s happening in the NHL too. Tonight’s refs need to be investigated.

  17. Idc what anyone says I appreciate Todd’s honest and thoughts on what he’s seeing. This is an NHL experienced coach who knows how to get the guys ready and puts it on the players to perform. Accountability. Other than that regroup and LGRW

  18. I was at the game and the refs were absolutely trash! lol
wings should’ve won that game. (no kicking motion) (slashing on larks)-no penalty shot?

    Dostal saved them that game.
