Samuelsson Nets 2, Sabres Back To .500 – Postgame Thoughts
Da da da da da da. Straight jacket. Straight jacket. Hey fool, you ready for another beating? You should have never came back. [Music] Well, the boys get it done tonight. They win the game. I’ve got a lot to complain about, so forgive me, guys. I’m going to be negative in this video to a degree. I am. But they found a way to win. That’s what matters tonight. Okay? Now, it can’t be this ugly tomorrow in Toronto. are going to get murdered if we play like that again. And I’ll explain why I’m pissed. But our best players got on the scoreboard today. We won the game. Really, it’s really that simple. And Lion gave us another great performance, I thought, in nets. All right, I’m trying to be calm. I I even didn’t watch like four of the last five minutes. I was too angry. More like six of the last seven. I was too upset. Really, I missed the tuck uh the tuck goal. I I was too upset. I was just too upset at the time. But they won the game. I’m happy. I’m thrilled. We’re four and four. Let’s talk about it. Let’s look at the numbers. And once again, these numbers are brought to you by Rome, the sweet and intense little bison. Here we go. Okay. Leafs outshoot us in the game 32-30. They had the edge in faceoffs 58% to 42. A good edge, I might add. The Leafs on the power play were 1 for four. The Sabres were 0 for two. Look at the hits, folks. We’re going to talk about this. 30 hits for the Leafs, eight for the Sabres. They out hit us 12-2 in that 30, in case you’re wondering. Block shots, uh, 21 for the Sabres, 13 for the Leafs. giveaways. The Sabres had 13. The Leafs had 18. But the Leafs had seven takeaways. The Sabres had three shots on goal period. 129 Sabres in the first. They came out flying kind of then let Toronto get back into it. I guess that’s the best way I could describe that period. Second period 119 Toronto. Third period 129 Toronto for that 3230 total scoring. Oh, let me get it on. Uh, you know what, guys? I’m going to get I’m going to get it on the actual box score. Give me one sec. I know you’re looking at it. Be patient. Okay, here we go. Samuelson, his first of the season from Mloud and Tuck. Samuelson’s playing a lot better under Lindy, folks. It’s time we say it. He is from Mloud and Tuck. Makes it one to nothing at the 438 mark. Knander replies from Ecman Larson and Carlo at 501. 23 seconds later. Then uh Koulik from Benson and Thompson at 612 makes it 2 to1 and then Matthews on the power play from Tavvarus and Emerson makes it 2 to2 end of one. We go to the second Tage if you noticed after he scored he pretended he had a monkey in his back and he threw it off. Tage from Byram and Kulic makes it 3 to2 Sabers. They never looked back from this point on. At the 720 mark, Samuelson, I might say the superstar Samuelson from Delene and Krebs makes it 4 to2 Sabres at 1310. We go to the third. Dakota Joshua gets his versus Lee from Cowan and Roy at 155. And then right after a great save by Lion Alex Tuck with the shorty from Owen Power. A much improved Owen Power, I might add. At 1659, the Sabres, that’s your 5-3 score. Now, um Oh, let’s take a look at the standings, folks. I’m going to update the standings as we go along. Here we go. So, there you see. I’ll just throw the division at you. And yeah, the Sabres have leaprogged over five teams now with this win today. They’ve uh you know, I mean, look, we’re right now in a playoff spot. We’d be playing Detroit in the first round if the playoffs open today, but hey, it’s early. It’s eight games in, I know, but just nice to look at, guys, when you consider not long ago we were dead last overall in the NHL. So, this hitting affair tonight. Okay, look. You guys know I’m not one to hold punches here. We were lucky. Okay, lucky tonight to get away with that. That was one of the worst physical performances I’ve seen since Lindy’s back. They were terrible tonight. Physically terrible. Terrible. They just wanted to play Don Granado hockey all night long. It drove me nuts, guys. I don’t know about you, drove me crazy because the clock, no matter what, would be on Toronto’s side. And I I should have brought my my my phone in because I texted Jim when it was 4 to2 and I was angry as hell after two periods angry. I’m not sitting there excited. Yay, we’re winning 4-2. No, no, no. I was mad. Living. And I and I text Jim. I say, you know what? We are showing all the signs of a team that’s going to choke up and lose in the third right now. just the way we look physically in this game. We’re not engaged. We’re not taking We’re just not engaged physically whatsoever in this game. And we got lucky in my opinion to win that game tonight because of that. Just because of that. Sure, we did some good plays, but this was like the year where we missed the plus at one point. We were kind of razzledazzle type team tonight. That’s not going to be our MO, guys. To win, not to make the playoffs. We’re not going to make the playoffs playing games like that. I’ll tell you right now. Uh-uh. There was just no aggression out there. It was just a skating affair. Toronto were still taking the body to us when they could. We just I don’t know what it was. We were just avoiding it all night. I couldn’t believe it really. I don’t know. Maybe they planned this before the game. You know what I mean? If Lindy says nothing about it and because I guarantee no Saber, I’m not there. So, nobody’s going to confront Lindy on it after the game, right? [Music] Like Hamilton and these guys, they never bring it up. Not Not that stuff. I guarantee you it won’t be that stuff. They’ll just be talking about the plays and the goals. First thing I’d be asking them, where was your physical game? Where was the team’s physical game in this? This was awful tonight. The physical game. The rest of the game, yeah, it was fun to watch. They won. They won as expected, folks. They’re better team, if you want the truth, than Toronto. I’ll just say it. They are. If you look at them on paper, how much more deeper they are than the Maple Leafs? They’re a better team. They just are. Toronto’s like they’re they’re a good team, but would I be shocked if we finish in front of Toronto this year? No, not really. Toronto’s had their window. All they did was, you know, really screw it up. And teams like like Tampa are getting older. Getting old. I’m not saying Tampa’s done by any stretch, but we’ll see if Tampa could have a bad year like Boston did last year. We don’t know. We don’t know yet. Boston looked like they’ve come to earth since that 3-0 start, right? Detroit sure has. Montreal is the only team I’d say that deserve where they are in first place. Montreal has been the best team in that division so far this year. They have been. And uh I I’ll admit it, but I’m concerned going into tomorrow’s game, guys. I want to see us more engaged in the game. We weren’t engaged tonight. We were just skating out there. It it looked like we were It almost had a preseason feel to it kind of. And you know why? If you’re wondering, well, the Sabres won, Wayne, the Sabres won. Yeah, they won cuz they have the talent. The talent is there. I’ve been saying that for years. This team of ours is loaded with talent. It’s loaded. How many times do we hear what with these idiots that don’t get this, okay, that say this about our team? I’m having a coffee, so no, there’s no booze in there. But these idiots out there on other channels that talk about our team and saying, “Ah, you know, all these guys, they go and they win Stanley Cups elsewhere.” Yeah, because we’re loaded. We’re loaded. We have a a a plethora of talent on this team right now. Koolik looked great tonight. Tuck looked invisible for most of the game and he got a few points. It just look this team when they start when all the pistols start firing on this team at the same time, you’ll know, guys. You’ll know. Hello. Yes. That team that played Florida is not the team that showed up tonight. And I’ll tell you what, if they’re going to look like that in the goats, please don’t wear the goats no more. Please. If they’re going to play like that physically, no thanks. I don’t want to see that team ever again. That that was just it was hard for me to tolerate, guys. As you can tell, it really ticked me off. But did I think we’d win? I wasn’t sure if they were going to hang on tonight. The way it looked cuz we were not going to get engaged in this game with them physically. That was off that just was off the charts. It wasn’t happening tonight. There was no way that somebody would have had to crash our neck, crash Lion, knock him out for the season for us to wake up physically in this game. That’s how it felt. And um we’re not going to play many games, guys, and and and throw hits like that. Okay, eight hits, hits like that and win. That’s not going to happen much. So, count your blessings tonight. We We dodged a bullet tonight. A major bullet tonight. that way. But it goes to show that the Sabres can really be lazy physically and still win hockey games, right? Isn’t that what this shows, too? I mean, you know, and I don’t want them to get into that mindset. I want them to be mean tomorrow. I don’t know. I think they will be. As long as tomorrow they throw like 25 hits, I’ll be I’ll be good. I just want them engaged in the game in all aspects of the game, folks. I don’t want this. I don’t want a weak area. I don’t like it. And Granado pretended for years it was okay to do this. I I I hated it. You guys know it with my channel. I hate it with a passion. I hated tonight’s game that way. Couldn’t stand it because it just brought back all those bad memories of where we’re soft and we’re not going in corners and we’re just trying to chip the puck away and we’re not being engaged and we’re not taking the guy out. I mean, all right. So, let’s talk about some some other stuff. You’ve heard my rant on that. That’s where that’s where I was, guys. That’s where I was. Now, as mo most of this game tonight, yeah, we were in control because, you know, we scored early. The Sabres kind of came out on them and, you know, and we scored and then they scored and we scored and they scored. They never had the lead on us. It’s just one of those nights. And the truth is, Stallers kept them in really in a lot of points, but so did Lion with us. If you looked at their goals, I mean, they were right in the crease on us. these guys. So are the Sabres, though in some in some aspects. So, I know. I know. I’m just so frustrated with uh that part of the game today that I’m just like calming down. But I I I really was sick thinking they’re going to somehow blow this game and they didn’t. So, I was happy about that for sure because now we’re four and four. Really, it’s a fresh start right now, guys. right now is a fresh start to the season. You know, we started 0 and3, won four out of five. The game in Montreal with a few breaks, could have won. We could be on a five-game winning streak right now. But it’s okay cuz who knows how we would have reacted, right, in the other games if we would have beat Montreal. We we’ll never know. I really enjoyed uh watching Lion and Nets again. I’m going to miss him now that UPL’s back. I’ve got to admit UPL will be in nets tomorrow, I’m sure. And my biggest fear now, we go in there tomorrow, we play a very engaged hockey game. We come at them physically. Okay? Cuz if unless I’m wrong, Lindy’s if I know this, Lindy knows this. And Lindy will, I’m sure, address us with the team and tell them, you know, guys, we got to be more engaged tomorrow, though. You know, they’re going to come at us cuz they are going to come at us tomorrow, folks. They are going to come at us hard. They’re humiliated right now. Um, but it’s kind of the year of the changing of the guard in a division. You know, like look at the top three teams is Mont right now is Montreal, Detroit, and Buffalo right now this very minute. So, it’s like, you know, things are changing in this division. Even though it’s going to be like this, I mean, the the the margin of error is going to be small, folks. I mean, once this thing gets going, you’ll see. I mean, it’s every point’s going to be huge this year. I think tomorrow they’ll be more engaged. I’m sure of it. But UPL’s in Nets. So, what if we play a very good solid physical game? We play well, we score like three, four goals, but they score five. I just hope UPL’s up to the task already, and he’s really ready. We’ll see tomorrow. We’re going to have a good eye tomorrow on what’s going on with this guy. Hope so, cuz I’m 99% sure they’re going to start him tomorrow. I don’t think I don’t think it’ll be Alice unless UPPL comes and he just bombs right away and things don’t work out. But we don’t want that either. We want our goalies to get hot. We want all our goalies to get hot. Anybody that goes in, all these points are going to add up late in the year, guys. You know, we’re four and four now. We can breathe. I can breathe that we won this game cuz I was having a hard time watching it tonight. I really was. I was happy with the skating game and passing and it was some good stuff in the game, but I want I want the whole package, guys. I want the whole package. I want I want to be like Florida one day, you know? I want it to be instinctive that we play hard and physical every single game. Every game. That way. come playoff time, we’re already know how to play this style of hockey. We’re not doing this tonight in the playoffs and surviving. You know that. You know what I mean? So, I I’d like to see the Sabres like just engaged all the time every night, night after night after night. I don’t know. Maybe it was just a lot of nerves with the guys tonight. Could be. Could be that. Don’t think they weren’t thinking about getting to 500. They knew what was on the line tonight. So, they knew if they get it, if they win that they’re automatically in a playoff spot tonight. They just had to win the game. So, I’m happy with the win, guys. I am. I’m just I I I want to have the perfect hockey team, you know? I just want Look what Florida has. Who’s not envious of that team? Top hitting team in the league. Two-time champions in a row. You can’t do much better really in this day and age. And we’re in the era now. And you guys noticing forces are making a comeback in the NHL. Okay, good. I want to bring that old time hockey back. Sick of watching this league just all razzledazzle and you know oddman rush all the time. Like I like the hard edge to the game too because for me that’s part of it. That’s just part of it. Maybe I just grew up in the wrong era for this kind of league now. I don’t know folks. I’m happy. I don’t want to complain. I just stressed out. I got so stressed tonight. Okay. I got so damn stressed in this game. I say, you know what? I’m shutting this. I’m not watching no more. I’m taking a breather because I know my luck. Toronto will tie it. I’m not going to watch right now. I’m going to take my I do this too. Five minutes off and I’ll come back and look. I peek in. I’m checking the baseball game and then I peek back in. Okay, still winning. And then I see a power play. I’m like, ah, you know, and uh and then I seen Tuck got a shorty and that was it. Jim sent me a text. I said, okay, I’ll go back. How much time is left? And uh even in the last minute and a half, guys, we were chasing them. And you know, there’s I just hope tomorrow it’s a different approach cuz if we do play like this physically tomorrow, we will not win. we will not win. But if we come at them like we did, say in Montreal, the way we played in Montreal, we’ll win. We’ll beat them again tomorrow. It’s a good chance we can sweep this guys. I’ll tell you right now, I think the Sabres are ready this year to become a better team than Toronto. And I don’t think that’s farfetched, as some of you might think. I don’t think that’s farfetched, really. Like I’ve I’ve said it for years, the year the Sabres get in the playoffs, there’s going to be no question about it. They’re just going to roll in like like they’ve never missed the playoffs. It’s going to have that feel about it. You know, this might be the year. It might be. I’m leaving it there on a positive note. Okay. I had a hard time today. I’m happy they won. Very happy they won. And I hope tomorrow it’s a different Sabres team that shows up in Toronto to play them. And I hope they play them hard like hell tomorrow. Don’t let them just need a Gatorade at the end of the freaking game. Make them put an ice packs at the end of the game. That’s what I want tomorrow. Guys, have a great night. The boys win. We’ll take it. Four and four. Season’s back, guys. Season’s back. We’re alive and well. See you tomorrow. [Music]
Hey everybody, the boys tonight won for the 4th time in 5 outings since their terrible 0-3 start and are now just like that back to .500 ..our playoff dreams are alive and well at the moment ..thanks as always for watching and see you in the pregame tomorrow 😎

great passing on the goals. MS with two goals oh my.
I was at the game and a few observations:
For a long time they only had 2 hits and both were Malenstyne. I said you were going to be upset lol.
Thompson went out of his way not to hit. It cost him a penalty by using his stick when he easily could have taken the body.
Tuch wasn’t invisible but was not engaged enough until the last goal.
All said, the Sabres and the crowd were into it. They out skated the Leafs all night except for a few minutes in the 3rd. They dominated the first period but came out tied due to the PP.
I totally want more hitting but if they out skate and out chance teams like that they will win a lot of games.
UPL warming up concerned me. I hope I’m wrong.
Benson is my favorite player such a smart player the play in the leafs corner behind the net in the 1 st he knows what the enemy is gonna do he has a upper edge ,smart player Einstein like about the softness Toronto is softer I thought to myself there's no fist a cuffs in this 1 B4 the game started we won because Toronto is soft too
I agree. Sabres need to find the mixture of skill and gritty type of play. Skill will only get you so far in this league.
Power had at least 1 of those hits crunching someone along the boards as they entered the zone. That to me was Powers best hit ever. 😊 Lyon King was a difference maker.
I need Dahlins girlfriend to call him and tell him to win like Adrian did to Rocky in Rocky II. His head has not been in these games.
My opinion on hitting is that in this game they changed hitting for puck control. I think that even ESPN comentators said it too. Not many hits but Sabres control game. And i agree. Most of third period Sabres controling puck and didn't let Toronto play. And I bet that in playoffs this team will suprise many people with physical play.
I like your criticism of Sabres performance. Can you show video examples of exactly what you’re referring to?
I want more hits too but Im glad they beat the much HATED Leafs! Im more upset with the freaking breakaways and giveaways ! Every game it seems they give up 3 or 4 breakaways because of giveaways or blocked shots !
Im expecting a much more physical game from our boys in the Sewage pit tonight . Would love to see a sweep of the make me laughs !
Any word on Kozak? Hope he is back on saturday night .🙏🙏
They seem to raise their game physically when provoked early. Look at the Florida game. Finish your checks so players think twice headed into the corners.
I'll bet Geertsen gets in the line-up in Toronto!
They were a bit soft THIS game. Nobody plays a full season hitting everything in sight. And nobody plays a full season without off nights. They won on a night that they were off! To me, that's a promising sign.
Bro, I started watching in 1993 & the past seems so nostalgic. Go back & watch a game from 1996 & most of these guys are ECHL quality, lol. Teams were 3/4 tough guys & 1/4 skill guys. Appreciate the skill of today
Part of me wonders if they were avoiding the physical play because they were playing a back to back with Toronto. Leafs threw a ton of hits, so they might be more spent/tired for the rematch game today, while Buffalo should have more energy for the game. It wouldn't surprise me if Buffalo came out banging the Leafs around in the rematch. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for one bad hitting game since they have generally been more physical this season. If it becomes a pattern, then I'll be more concerned. Also need to remember that you cannot hit if you have the puck. So being badly outhit might be an indicator of controlling the puck more.
wtf are you talking about?, you're upset weren't physical enough…so what the leafs are old and SLOW why would dumb down our game in this matchup when they can't hang with our speed and high skill?, makes no sense to play down to that style. we can play lindy/granato hockey, being able to swap styles based on matchup is a great thing.
Disagree. We were tenacious, fought hard for pucks, absorbed a little punishment to make plays, we controlled the game. Stolarz saved them. 30-8 are numbers. 4 extra hits per period didn't stop momentum, the boys are playing hard to win. I'll take the W.
Special teams are still concerning despite the win. Almost 2 minutes 5 on 3 and they looked terrible. They didn't score a single 5on3 goal last year, according to Google. In addition, 4 minutes or so of empty net and no score. When we have an empty net the opposition scores frequently.
Now Lindy wasn't allowed to bring any assistant coaches, so who is the magnificent untouchable special teams coach in charge of these two game situations?
Last season Buffalo would have lost this game in OT…they looked sharp!
Sometimes you have a team chasing you, so they hit more than they play the puck. That’s what happened, we got to beat them with our feet. No complaints here
You concentrate on the hits too much. Hits work in certain games, it's the end result that matters most. When watching the game it didn't feel like we were outhit that bad. Let it go. They won, and the Jays won. Go Jays!
What the fuck are you so upset about that you stopped watching?? We controlled the entire game lol. Who cares about 8 hits
It drove you crazy that they controlled the entire game? You gotta let it go
Toronto outhit us and manhandled us … Lyon won the game for us.
Yes, great game but I just don’t understand the lack of hitting. Especially against Montreal and especially when you are defending a lead in the 3rd. The hits are right there ripe for the picking and they don’t take them. I don’t understand why they don’t circle every division game on the calendar or against wild card contenders and say these games are war.
This was all Lindy ruff, this was a coaching win, sacrifice hitting for time of possession
Surprised to hear that the Sabres lead the league in home wins for the calendar year 2025, this coupled with great special teams and above average goaltending should support a realistic playoff run.
Don’t know what you think Wayne but I am impressed with Ostlund, the kid has some size and is silky smooth. Some great potential
Blackhawks fan of 40yrs and agree about Florida their team since Chucky got there in 2022-23 has been ELITE all around with amazing culture + talent + FO + coaching.
Bro best game by sabres, your analysis is shit tonight
UPL = OTL
