“Keep the Faith”: C.J. Stroud on Fixing the Offense & 475 Total Yards

CJ, after last week, everybody was asking, “What’s wrong with Houston’s offense?” But you told us you guys were good and you were confident. What allowed for this team to put up 475 yards of total offense today? Yeah. First, I just want to give all glory and praise my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And uh without him, I’m nothing. Um I’m a broken, wretched, sinful man, and he saved me uh time and time again. And I just put my confidence in him. Whenever I don’t whenever I lack self-confidence, I have God confidence. So, uh, but today, man, we just we knew what we had to do. We knew what we did last week wasn’t good enough. Um, and really, we just had faith. It’s easy to have faith when it’s easy, but when it’s hard and it gets tested, you get punched in the mouth. Like, and that happens in this league all the time. What are you going to do? So, uh, we we had hard conversations. Coaches were hard on us. We’re hard on the coaches. We got things fixed and we got to just keep this rolling. This Houston defense has been so special for you guys this year. How good did it feel to go out and give them some offensive support today? Yeah, I think they barely played. Like the time of possession was a big difference. Um, and that’s how we always want to play common football, three three phases. Um, so I think our defense has been playing great. Now it’s just we got to put points on the board and today we’re able to do that and that’s always a recipe for success. CJ, thanks for the time. Thank you. God bless you.

Stroud walks through how Houston flipped the script—practice corrections, accountability on both sides of the ball, and finishing drives. Defense dominated snaps; the offense matched it with points. “When I lack self-confidence, I have God-confidence.”
