Live Press Conference: 2:20 PM CT: QB Cam Ward

It it confirms it from a sense of like we know we can play at the level. We just got to be better each and every week. Um but the biggest thing that we’re focused on scoring points. We got to not just move the ball. We got to finish drives in the red zone and try to get points. Kaylin, I know results have been what you wanted, but as you look back to your first game to now, do you get the sense that you’ve improved like? Uh yeah, I think I improved every game. um from an operation standpoint, from a play call standpoint to getting in and out of huddle to knowing where guys is to being NFL quarterback, I think every game’s got better. Um then for each other position, every game we’ve had together, we’ve got better chemistry at um cuz practice is a lot different than the game. Um so, you know, I’ll continue to work with those guys, continue to work with me, we going to continue to be better. What do you think you’ve learned, Cam in terms of getting the ball out quickly in the NFL as opposed to college and how much maybe more important? I just think it helps keep us on track. I think when I do my job at a high level, it keeps the offense just flowing, helping out the old line, helping the receivers out. Um, then also just getting the guys, you know, our playmakers in space to make plays. Is it is it was it a big adjustment in terms of how long you can hold the ball maybe in college versus versus the NFL? Uh, it’s not really a big adjustment. It’s it’s about the times when you can hold the ball, certain situation when you can, when you need to stand. Um, but majority of of the game, you have to continue to just try to play on schedule. Still being a rookie yourself, what does leadership look like to you in terms of trying to lead this team and being a guy that people can follow in this locker? Um, I think it just always comes down to your consistency, uh, what you do on a daily basis. Um, how you uplift your guys on a daily basis. Then day, you got to be able to make plays on the football field. Um, and we got a good locker room. Uh, there’s not that that seat on, you know, the the cup of our chest. U, we know he’s there for a reason. They voted us for captain, but we got a lot of guys who don’t have that seat on their chest who can, you know, take the responsibility to, you know, pick somebody up, hold them accountable. U, so we just got a great locker room full of guys to, you know, make sure everybody’s doing right. Practice being different from the game, is there anything other than reps that can help the mechanics in practice more smoothly translate to when it goes live game? Um, I think reps are the the the biggest thing that can help you. Um, but I think the what’s easy what’s got easier for a lot of us, especially myself, just continue to watch, you know, just the more film that you can. Um, even if you watching the same play 10 times, just finding something different about the about the play where you can have a advantage over the opponent. Um, but I just think reps, you know, take care of everything. those 5 a.m. meetings that you guys are still having, has anything changed from how they were back in July, August to to now? Uh, no. Really just watching film. Um, continue to build our relationship and then just trying to make plays on Sunday. I know you’re dedicated to the footwork and the fundamentals. Some of the big plays you made in college and some of the big plays you made here kind of offscript and maybe don’t rely on that stuff as much. Is there a little bit of a conflict there that that sometimes when you’re not counting on the fundamentals, the big stuff happens? Um, not really. It really really depends on how the play breaks down. Um, cuz I don’t know if if you know one of our guys going to get beat, whether it’s receiver or or going to get beat. Um, I just got to continue to move in the pocket the right way to help those guys out. Um, but also got to continue to play on schedule to not put them in a situation where, you know, a good defensive end or DT tackle can, you know, get hands on them and try to move them. Um, so I just think it’s all about doing my job. Coaches have talked a lot about the teach tape they show you in season. Who are some of the guys that are on the teach tape that they’re showing you what they’re saying? Maybe this is a play for them to look like or this is something you can do. Um, it’s really scattered. Um, cuz we watch really every team throughout the week. Um like Herbert, he’s been on he’s been on the uh the the sheet a couple times. Um the coach who’s playing, you know, outstanding football right now. Right now, they’ve been on the sheet a couple times. Really a lot of different um quarterbacks and offenses. Um then just trying to implement, you know, our stuff and, you know, trying to be explosive and, you know, create explosive plays. Is there anything that stands out from those experiences of you took a specific nugget from a specific quarterback at some point? Uh, I think the the best offenses right now in the league, I just think they continue to, you know, move the ball methodically. Um, and it’s really doing their best plays. Um, so we just got to continue to do our best plays and move the ball. We know how to try to gain explosives. Um, and try to end up being one of those offenses. You talked about the rookies a little bit there, Kim, but I wonder Shimra in particular last two weeks just taking off in terms of the numbers. anything in particular you think that accounts for maybe the chemistry between you guys the fact that he’s just really tough kind of taking off um I just think me and him seeing the field um the same way um lately um and it was kind of you know just he’s splitting reps with lock at the time but I think now that he’s getting way more reps he’s finally see how I like to throw the ball over the middle um he watches film with me every day so you know I’m excited for Chim um he’s going to always be a part of the game playing just not only what we do with special teams, just trying to find him, get the way ball. He’s one of our fastest players out there, so we just got to keep on letting him make plays for us. Cam, I know there’s been some talk about the way Payton Manning struggled in his rookie season. Do you go out of your way to talk to anybody who’s been in a similar situation as you and have to navigate these losses when you know you want to win so badly? Um, not really. It’s more of just how to prevent it. Um I would say try to stop the bleeding. But the the biggest thing is that everybody wants to win in our building. Um but we heart the little things and we got to continue to do the little things cuz that’s why we’re in the position we in by not doing the little things each and every down. Um and so it’s not really, you know, who I need to talk to, we need to talk to. Um I really just talk to my teammates about it. We the only people who can control it, the people on the field. And you know, we just got to make it come to life this week. you talk to players from other teams after games. What kind of feedback you get? Anybody say anything to you about hanging in there that has really stuck out to you? Well, um I say a lot of guys um quarterbacks, coaches, they’ve all, you know, said the same thing to myself and my other teammates. Um just continue to to play as clean football as we can. Um eventually it’s going to end and when it does, you got to be ready and you just got to continue to try to get better every day. um it ain’t going to happen overnight, but you continue to work, it’ll happen. Your daddy has said that you are just like your mom and that you never show anything about your performance. What are some of the things like some of the feedback you got from your mother in regards to, you know, how the season is going? Um what is something she said? Let me see. She been quiet lately, so that’s actually surprising. Um, so I’m sure depending we got we got to we got to just try to try to win a game for her. Maybe she’ll she’ll crack a smile for me this week. So you know that’s the plan this week. Thank you.
