Orlando Magic’s defense unacceptable in loss to Philadelphia 76ers

This is Philip Frostman Reich, the host of Lockdown Magic as Orlando Magic suffer a frankly embarrassing and frankly unacceptable 136124 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. We could talk about all the host of problems that the Orlando Magic have. We could talk about all the things that they have been struggling with so far this season. None of it matters and none of it means anything if they’re going to struggle on defense like this. For the last two years, as the Orlando Magic rose to become this playoff team and this this upand cominging team that everyone was excited about, it was the defense that was the base of everything. When the Magic acquired Desmond Bane, who had an excellent game, by the way, when the Magic acquired Desmond Bane, it was done knowing that they had a top five defense to lean back on. Nothing matters if the Magic do not have this identity. Nothing matters if the Magic can’t get stopped consistently. All these other little mistakes, they do not matter if the Magic don’t get stops first because they can always recover if they get stops. And frankly, down 15 in the third quarter, they did. They made their comeback. They got so close to retaking the lead. But their defense betrayed them again and again and again for one of the top defenses in the league last year for a team that prides itself on that. And this is plainly unacceptable. This kind of loss cannot happen. And I’m going to yell about it more on Locked on Magic. The Orlando Magic fall a 1 and3 on the season. A tough game at Detroit on Wednesday. Magic have to find their defense if they’re going to go anywhere this season.

The Orlando Magic were built on their defense. This effort is unacceptable and no other problem matters but finding their defensive intensity again. The Philadelphia 76ers defeat the Magic, 136-124.

  1. Someone tell him it's not the Defense. It's Tyrese Maxy and Edgecomb whom will likely be an East all-star this season. If they had Embiid the score would have been outright embarrassing. 😂

  2. We need a coach. Mike Malone is probably the best candidate, but Tom Thibodeau, Mike Budenholzer, Taylor Jenkins, and Mike D’Antoni are all better than the coach that we currently have in Orlando

  3. Orlando's defense even with the worst shooting in the NBA and injuries gave themselves to win. Now they're looking like the worst defense in the NBA! Why? How? Mike Malone?

  4. I know it's been 3-4 games for most of the league, but this is why I said if you want to put the Knicks and Cavs in a tier of their own, that's fine, but that 3 seed is up for grabs.

  5. Forget about the fact that we are completely forgotten to play defense, which is the one thing that made us proud, but they’re not playing with any urgency. They’re not playing with any pride. How about the fact that they want to do layups all the time instead of going strong and Dunking the ball we have tall big young guys. There are no excuses. There’s something going on. I don’t understand it. There’s something going on

  6. No back court in the league will contain Philadelphia's two young studs, be happy the magic face them early before they develop real chemistry, and of course before Joe, PG, Jared McCain, and Trendon Watford come back. The league is in trouble! The Sixers are absolutely stacked and they can play multiple styles of basketball. They can play fast, they can play slow when everybody comes back, between the Eagles and the 76ers, philly is on top!

  7. my research has been vindicated .

The faster the pace, more turnovers.

    More turnovers, more opponent possessions.

More opponents possessions, more opportunities for the opponent to score.

    The game hinges on

who causes and commits the most turnovers, who gives up the least offensive rebounds, the least free throw opportunities, transition offenses and defense execution, and the least 3pt opportunities
