MBN currently has the lowest PDO of any player in the NHL with 8+ games. He is 100% an NHL player that was incredibly unlucky. Hopefully he gets his confidence back and comes back up.

  1. He’ll be fine, you could tell he was working his ass off every shift and that’s what you want to see. Dude’s going to be a stud down in the A and he’ll be back before we know it.

  2. He will. Going to Grand Rapids will let him play more minutes and develop more. It’s not unusual to go down and then come back to the NHL.

  3. Now, here’s a question I have — I’ve seen pdo marketed as “puck luck” but Larkin and Raymond aren’t “lucky” several years in a row so has anybody done, like PDO on one axis and goals scored above average or high danger shots or any sort of “these guys go for higher percentage shots so of course their rates are better their shot quality is higher” on the other ?

  4. For sure. Todd was saying in one of the interviews that the lack of luck and pace of the game was dragging on him. It’s probably best for him to get some confidence in GR

  5. I think MBN is fantastic. Had a great preseason and is going to have long career in the NHL. But I don’t think he got bounced to the AHL only because of bad luck. It was apparent the speed of the game was getting to him a bit.

I don’t think he’ll stay there for too long though and expect to see him back with the big club sometime this season.

  6. I’m cool with how it went. He’s farther along than Danielson was at this age. Now he knows what to work on to earn a job.

  7. He’s a kid that will benefit for being on the top lines and power play in gr for little bit

  8. Why are some people acting like the demotion is permanent? He’s not being banished cuz they don’t think he’s good enough he just needs more NA pro reps. It’s almost like making the team out of camp is the worst thing that could’ve happened for people’s expectations.

  9. Dude they just didnt need him rn and we get to kick his elc a year if he doesnt play more this year. The limit for that is nine games. He likely wasnt sent down for performance

  10. Should’ve started him on the top line… (nothing against Finnie he’s been great) but MBN’s shot deserved to be showcased with feeds from the likes of Larkin and Raymond not Copp and Compher. 🤷‍♂️

  11. Well, you kinda create your own luck too.. it’s easy to say “expected this expected that” but he might really just need a year down in Griffin that figure out the small ice, to position himself better.

  12. I think the best thing for MBN was to prove he belongs which I think he did but also go to GR to build his high end talent. Dude is living the dream of young hockey players everywhere

  13. Yeah this is it.

Idk where this “PDO” stat popped up from but it was pretty apparent MBN just wasn’t quite up to speed and being in GR to solidify what we know he can do is best.

  14. He’s still very raw, he just needs more time to develop and refine his game. GR is the right place
    for him right now.

  15. Yeah he was 3rd on the team in expected +/- then again im not sure if thats a n good stat or not.

  16. Not worried about MBN. I am worried about Mazur though. Poor guy keeps getting hurt Andy his runway to being an NHLer is shrinking

  17. The whole thing is, he just needed more ice time. He was doing fine as an nhl’er, but the team sees him as more than just fine. He’ll get way more ice time and better offensive opportunity on GR line one, than riding the 3rd with compher and Copp.

Thr demotion wasn’t a criticism of his performance, it was just a statement of them wanting him to get more opportunity and ice time to develop his game to the fullest.

  18. His shot selection and pace weren’t quite nhl level. Give him honestly half a season and I bet he’s ready.

  19. Him getting sent down I’m sure had a lot to do with his contract as well. It was the easiest move to make.

As long as he tears it up in Grand Rapids and doesn’t get hurt, nothing is going to stop him from coming back to the NHL this season
