With the latest draft class and the small sample size of this season. Do you see any sort of competency this season or in the close future? If not what realistic coaching or personnel changes could turn the current identity of this team towards a more consistent trend upwards?

  1. Ill say this. Give Kon more shots especially from the corners. I dont care if he misses 8 shots in a row.

  2. I think all the guys we drafted this year are keepers, together with Melo, Miller, Moussa and probably Sexton. The rest of the roster must be shuffled. We probably need an entire frontcourt of players: a starting level center, the best possible two-way forward and a good 3 and D wing/forward. Then we can maybe be a playoffs team for more than a year and win a series.

  3. I don’t think anything else matters until we know if we can get healthy seasons from our stars.

Brandon’s injuries have been unfortunate so far but it’s early enough we wait it out. I think LaMelo either needs to play 65+ this year or we move on. We’re in danger of going six to eight seasons and saying “maybe LaMelo will be healthy next year” which would be insanity. I love him but the team has to win at some point.

I think this rookie class ultimately gives us multiple key contributors, but no major, major pieces. Kon has the highest upside with “efficient, versatile third option” potential. Sion has “defensive dawg” written all over him, and Kalkbrenner could be a very good backup center. McNeeley could be a nice bench player but needs some time.

I wouldn’t count on a big turnaround this year, but I think we could look poised to compete next year if: 1. Stars are finally healthy, 2. The coaching staff figures out some kind of identity and schemes on both ends, 3. We get significant development from a few young guys, and 4. We trade for 1-2 guys to fill remaining holes

We also have plenty of capital to trade our way into immediate playoff contention imo, which is an option but maybe ill-advised until we know if our coach can coach
