Could the Patriots make a play for Brian Thomas Jr. or Myles Garrett?
Why it might be time for the Browns to consider trading Miles Garrett, the guy who just had five sacks of your quarterback on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Back here with Phil and Bert. Bert, do you think the Browns would do it? Garrett seemed pretty ticked when they took him out of the game though and they lost. Like he clearly is very invested in this team and wants to win. You could see it in him on the sidelines Sunday. Yeah, I mean it’s obviously everybody knows the history here and what happened in the offseason last year where he said he was never going to play there again and then they put 40 million a year in front of him. He takes it. So this isn’t about what he wants. Like I think he’s sort of forfeited the right once he took the money. But I I like I just like look at where the Browns are right now. They’ve got an impressive rookie class with Mason Graham and Carson Swessinger and Quinn Sean Judkins and Harold Fannon. Um they traded the sec over second overall pick with the admission we need to get younger in a lot of different areas after not having first round picks for three years because of the Deshun Watson trade and they already have Jacksonville’s first round pick next year. I think they get two first round picks and then some for for Miles Garrett if they trade him. The opportunity to have five first round picks over the next two years. I I think it’s a great opportunity that’s in front of them. And even if they even if they struck like the Patriots struck on Drake May, we’re talking about the Patriots taking this huge step forward in Drake May’s second year. That would be 2027. Miles Garrett turns 32 in 2027. That’s how old Von Miller was when he was traded from the Broncos to the Rams. That’s how old JJ Watt was when the Texans cut him. So you’re talking about like now probably being the maybe the final window that you’ve got to get top value for him if you are going to move him. And I just think the timeline of the team’s rebuild and his prime don’t match up. So maybe they should do it. They probably won’t do it because they’ve committed so much money to him and it’s already a sunk cost to some degree. The question to me would be, would the Patriots ever be interested in taking a huge swing like this? Next question for you on I don’t I really don’t think so. You know, they this would probably require a move similar to this one would require multiple first round picks. And as much as I like being aggressive in a year where you are the second team in the conference and Joe Burrow’s banged up and Lamar Jackson’s banged up and it feels like the window is open in a way that we didn’t think it would be open before the season began. Multiple first round picks is too much for this Patriots team. They need to hit on those early picks these next several years so that they have a young core of talent to grow with Drake May. What about guys like Max Crosby or Trevon Henderson? Are those guys uh Trey Trey Hendrickson? Are those guys more um apt, easier to get, less to give up? Well, it sounds like the Raiders aren’t going to be dealing Max Crosby and Hendrickson just got injured. So, I don’t know what that will do. I don’t know how serious that is or what that will do for his trade market. Those would be moves that I would be interested in to some degree if I’m the Patriots. I feel like especially on the edge, they have some depth issues. It’s been Harold Landry and Kaleon Chson. And after that, as we just saw, Keon White being a healthy scratch and now traded, they just don’t have a lot of dependable depth there at that critical position, Bert. And they’ve had a hard time at times getting after quarterbacks. So to me, those moves would be enticing. I just don’t know if they’re the right moves for this team. Crosby I would think about because he’s 27, you know, and like so that would be somebody and the only guys I would consider at that level if I were the Patriots are guys that are going to help you now but also help you for the next three or four years because I think you do have a window where you can keep building and be even better than you are this year, next year, the year after that. And I think that’s what you should continue building towards especially because you’re older in some spots on your roster now. Um so if Crosby were to come available that would be one that I would think about. I wouldn’t do Hendrickson. He’s 31. Um, you don’t know how much of his prime he’s got left. The Bengals were also asking over the summer for a second round pick plus a player. I know for Indianapolis it was Grover Stewart who’s a really good player that they were asking for, you know. So, you’d be talking about a high-end player, a high draft pick for a guy whose contract is up after the year and a guy who like may not be the same player a year from now. So, I I as good as Trey Hendrickson is, that’s one I wouldn’t do. All right, Phil, I know this is a name that you like. if the Patriots want help on the edge. But to Burke’s point, they want someone who’s younger they can have around a a lot longer. How about the Giants Kavon Cibido? NFL insider Jordan Schultz is reporting the 24year-old is a name to watch on the trade front. What would it cost, Phil, for them to pry the former top five pick away from New York? And is this a deal that you would be willing to make even if it was a cost if it was a costly one? Yeah. Well, so this guy’s 25 years old and he’s got all kinds of physical skill that I think would play, especially in Mike Frabel’s defense where they’re all about being aggressive and getting up the field and and playing a violent style. The trade compensation be interesting for me to see what it would be. Uh he does have one year left on his deal after this season. It’s that fifthear option that the Giants have picked up. It’s about 14 million bucks, which in today’s game, that’s a pretty good bargain for a premier pass rusher, which I think this guy is. Sometimes the sack numbers have been there. sometimes they haven’t early in his career, but he has all kinds of talent. He’s being used in sort of a three-man rotation right now. They’ve got a ton of depth there. Um the Giants actually Bert traded for Brian Burns who’s on their roster now. It was a second in a handful of other later picks. I wonder if that’s what it might cost for Tibido or if the Giants would be holding out for a firstrounder for him. And and Burns is a much better player. And he was better at this point in his career than Tibido is right now. Right. Right. So, I think like, you know, maybe you’d be talking about a day two pick and something else. Um, you know, you’re gonna have in inside information on him and I don’t know what sort of culture fit he would be here. That would be the one question. There were questions about his personality coming out. You also, again, you have got the insight. Ryan Cowen was there, right? So, Ryan Cen has insight on him. Shane Bowen is as close to Mike Frabel as any coach in the NFL. Shane Bowen is was was Mike Brael’s defensive coordinator. He’s the Giants defensive coordinator, so he’s working with him now. So, there are all kinds of connections that would make you think the Patriots would be able to leverage really good information. And so, my question would be whether or not the culture fits there. I think the talent is something they would want to work with. It’s a fair question. They have, you know, Vable in Tennessee took a few risks on on quote unquote culture question marks in the draft specifically. So, maybe his talent is so great that they’d be willing to roll the dice here. All right. All right. Well, the Patriots offense has been humming, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t get some reinforcements at the trade deadline as well. The Ringers Shil Kapadia had this interesting suggestion. He said the Patriots trading for wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is a possibility. After a stellar rookie season, he struggled in a new offense. This year, he proposed the Patriots sending a second round pick to Jacksonville for the speedy deep ball threat. Is this too redundant with Kan Booty? Like, is this a move though that would be worth making to shore up some depth at wide receiver? I I would say that this is a move that would help them a great deal. I think his skill set matches up with the quarterback’s skill set tremendously in terms of the way Drake May’s been throwing the deep ball and what Brian Thomas brings to the field as somebody who is one of these long angular true ex receivers who can make plays deep down the field. I do wonder and this gets back to uh culture. It gets back to really more the makeup of your locker room and how that thing is constituted right now. It seems to be going pretty well and guys have slotted into their roles whether it’s Kahan Booty or Matt Collins certainly Stefon Diggs even Pop Douglas who doesn’t play as much as maybe we thought but has a real role on this team and has made some big plays the last couple of weeks. I just wonder Bert do you make this move and maybe upset the apple cart because it would take snaps away from somebody like Kahan Booty. would take snaps away probably from M. Holland. These guys do have big personalities. That’s just how wide receiver rooms work. Would you be willing to do this and add that level of talent even if it sort of shakes up that room in a way that maybe you wouldn’t love to do? Let me just get this out there first. Like from a talent perspective, if I was Mike Frael, I would pick him up from the airport if this deal were on the table, right? Like I think that like this is the sort of move that you would want to make. Like he’s ultra ultra ultra talented. There were some injury concerns coming out like he had both he had issues with both of his shoulders and there is the culture fit thing and I think you do have to consider how hard it was to get the receiver room right. You know what I’m saying Phil? Like that receiver room was rotten last year. Like it was a bad environment for a number of different reasons and they have found a way to turn that thing on a dime with Todd Downing as the as the receivers’s coach and with all the guys that they have in that room. Steph Diggs has been a really good leader, believe it or not, in that room. Um, I think it’s a I think it’s a fair question how they would be able to absorb a talent like that, but at that position, you’re always dealing with different guys. So, I like this is one where I might want to take a dice roll just cuz I think the guy’s got the ability to be a true number one. There ain’t 32 number one receivers in the NFL. There’s probably 15, if that. and you don’t have one on your roster right
Phil Perry, Albert Breer and Trenni Casey discuss players the Patriots could target at the trade deadline. They discuss whether the Patriots would ever pursue Myles Garrett, what Brian Thomas Jr. could bring to the wide receiver room, and much more

Garrett isnt going anywhere. No way Cleveland is looking to trade.
If you think a big name is coming I've got a vaccine to sell you
These analysts keep forgetting that Boutte is only 23 years old. He was an elite talent coming out of high school. He had a bad injury his freshman year which derailed his ascension. He also has a few character issues and problems with the gambling. It seems that he has matured greatly and it is on a high trajectory now. There is no reason why at his young age he can not ascend to what he was supposed to be, a true number one wide receiver.
I mean its easy to see that Vrabel has applied things that he learned from playing for BB. That being the case, what would Belichick have done after a guy like Miles Garrett recorded 5 sacks in one game against him? Based on BBs track record……he would try to get Garrett in a patriots Jersey STAT lol i could see Vrabel applying the same logic for sure. Its just a matter of what they would have to give up to get him.
Fuck ya. I would give up anything for Garrett.
I’d love BTJ , he was one of my favorite receivers coming . He’s only in his second seasons. If he’s getting traded , it’s going to be for more than a second . He has up to 3 more years on his rookie deal . I find it hard to believe they’d be willing to part with him this soon for that little.
pats lets gooooooooo
I'd be shocked if a Garrett trade happens. For many reasons.
Garrett on the Pats could be the difference between winning or losing a playoff game. The guy is a game changer. You're not getting one of those in next years draft in the first round at edge. You give up a 1st without even thinking about it. If they ask for 2 firsts then you gotta ask yourself if it's worth it.
I would give them a first rounder and a 2nd for Garrett all day everyday….full support
Why can't he defer the money back to Cleveland
go get thibedeaux from NYG
Ain’t no way you’re getting a player of his caliber picking in the late 20’s for the next two years anyway. This makes total sense and would put us as heavy favorites against Mahomes in the AFC Championship Game
we should have traded Keon White with a 1st this year, 2nd and 3rd next year for him – because they would have a pass rusher for their style of D and would be younger — would have made sense for their youth movement and their lack of money to make rest of team competitive.. GO PATRIOTS
And if they are trading for Thibodeaux from the Giants it would make sense for both sides to do a Anfrenee Jennings and a 3rd for him — just saying they get younger and lower cost depth and we get a rotational need now with Landry still dealing with injury — Love Landry's toughness fighting through it but he needs to rest it if it's injured
That’s such a dumb take first round Picks aren’t guaranteed Myles Garrett is a first ballot Hall of Famer defensive edge with double digits per season first round Picks aren’t guaranteed Myles Garrett is.
Stop wasting our time and come up with something realistic
Too bad we don’t have somebody like Peppers 🙄
Would love to hear someone talk about Kyle Williams and how he is viewed
Bring on Garett #95
I LIKE BOTH TREY HENDRICKSON AND THOMAS! THOMAS IS 6’5 DRAKE MAYE ENJOYING TO THROW TO THOMAS
He's too expensive for us, he had the opportunity to leave and chased the money….
I’d send a first round pick. Imagine how well he’d help everyone behind him with that pass rush.
trade the picks and get garrett. You get more picks every year, you dont get a myles garrett type player every year. Make the deal for the now, worry about the draft later.
Please god do not go for Garrett. We do not need a player who lies and claims he was called racial slurs during a game. Yes we haven’t forgot u lying and playing the victim card!
That will be as bad a move as taking Antonio Brown. They r not a fit for the Pats
And he said Deshaun Watson was a good guy 😂😂😂 his victims claim otherwise
I could see us trading for Garrett or Thibo. I highly doubt we trade for BTJ
Myles and AJ both have a 60 mil dead cap but if they get traded this season
Theres no way the Jags give up BTJ I dont think they’re selling. Garrett seems more likely.
Both would be perfect fits for this team however neither one will be traded. A guy they might be able to get from the Browns is Njoku he would be an upgrade over Hooper or Henry. There is absolutely no way Jacksonville trades BTJ for a 2nd rd pick. He was WR #4 in the league. BTJ is not a diva he is injured and Trevor Lawrence blows. I would give up a 1st this year and a 2nd or 3rd in 26 and maybe a player. He is young has 3 more years on his rookie deal. And is a perfect fit for this offense. It would rival Brady to Moss.
Can you imagine how good Campbell could get going against Garret in practice all the time?
Id love both but I doubt it…especially Garrett
WR is dumb, we need a RB and edge rush
Not even realistic.
Thomas Jr isnt going anywhere thats just ridiculous. Garret is much more believable. I know the Browns said hes not available BUT Pete Carroll and the Seahawks said Russ wasnt gonna be traded the day before he got sent to Denver. I wont believe hes off limits until after the deadline.
2 first round picks for a guy who's HoF material sign me up. ⅔ of 1st round picks are eifher mid or busts. What are the odds both of thr guys we would get are above average starters let alone HoF level. As the 9ers GM said f*ck them picks, give me Myles. Hes got minimum 5 years left. Dude is 29 and an absolute beast.
4:23 sound like she said ding a fling 👀😂
We need a edge rusher for depth
