Yankees Owner Firmly Addresses Dodgers’ Spending: ‘We’ll See If It Pays Off’

  1. It did pay off and you do have to spend but he is right in that even with all of that spending things may not work out. The Jays were two outs from winning that series.

  2. This off-season and next is actually the best time in the next 7 years to sign some big FA contracts because the likelihood of grandfathering concessions for current contracts in the new 2027 CBA are pretty good.

But Hal is such a timid owner I think it’s a lot more likely he’ll shape the future of the club like they’re the Brewers or Mariners. He can just point to those teams that spend no money and say, “See! Look how close they came!”

  3. Almost like it takes money to make money Georgie. If you don’t want your team to fall into irrelevancy, you have to invest in it. You’re the most valuable baseball franchise, ACT LIKE IT!

  4. Lol what a dumb thing to say just months after the Dodgers won the World Series.

I thought I read an analysis saying the Dodgers are already profitable on Ohtani’s contract

  5. Of course Cashman and Co. believe the playoffs are a crapshoot. Its the logical conclusion to be drawn by folks who oversee an organization that doesn’t believe in hot streaks, fatally fails to understand or consider the human element, and consistently fields teams that struggle with fundamentals and situational adjustments.

They call it a crapshoot because they have no framework in which to fathom their own shortcomings and then dig in because ego has already gotten them this far. This more than anything is why the team needs a front office shakeup. Time for some new perspectives and analysis.

  6. The Dodgers spend 73% of their income on payroll, the Yankees, 50%. Hal and company care more about their profit margin than winning.

  7. It’s not just the spending but how they spent it.

We can throw a ton of money around and (we have) still get no results. Take a look at the 80-94 yanks. We also traded a ton of young talent to get vets with playoff experience, and creaky knees.

I’m all for spending tons of money when it’s not my bill to pay. But I would hope that we spend it on the RIGHT players and not just chase after every FA b/c reasons.

I think we need to take a long hard look at the rosters we’re constructing, and really find the weak spots, and fix them ASAP.

For me, I think getting a guy like Tucker would be a good add, I’d rather have Bichette at the plate than Volpe in the field. But most of all. We need players with that dog in them. We have waaaay too many guys that are OK with losing a series losing 3 series in a row, and “We’ll get em next time”? Guess what we didn’t get the Jays next time, and they took the Dodgers to 7 and 2 for extra innings. Way better than whatever you call our performance against them last year.

We need guys that can light a fire in the club house and spark the team’s emotions. More players like Jazz when he’s happy, I’m talking guys like Josh Naylor and maybe even Harper if you can get him on the cheap since his knees are getting creaky. We need to stop being OK fielding teams that make the post season only to fizzle out the other team punches back. The yanks were mentally beaten after that Yesavage game, and we ALL saw it.
