If the play prevents a guy from putting it into the empty net like that I feel like there should be a case for it being a goal in the same way that an extra attacker scenario counts as an auto goal. That took a 99% goal and reduced it to ~33% (the last time I remember seeing a stat on penalty shot success rate)

That was very close to being an awarded goal to begin with and was a judgement call by the officials that it wasn’t. A valid argument that it impeded an empty net and clear goal. But didn’t quite make the the cut and I think they got it right
