🗣️Ben Johnson CALLS OUT Dayo Odeyingbo + Bears Sign 2 More Veterans & Big Joe Flacco Injury News
voted Chicago Bears news for you guys today. After this morning’s signing, the Bears signed two more players to the roster. Along with that, Ben Johnson called out both Io and Montes Sweat. And then on top of it all, interesting injury news after the first injury reports for the Bengals and Bears. I’m going to go through it all, but before I get more into today’s show, like this video if you agree that you want more out of Montes, Sweat, and Dial. And along with that too, do you want a Bears win this Sunday? comment Y for yes or M for no. This one seems pretty easy to me, but I can’t wait to see the comments below. Now, let’s get into the new signing news is that the Bears signed two new players to their roster after the big signing this morning and they both are in the trenches. So, according to Bears insider Brad Bigs, he’s reported Bears signed defensive edge Jonathan Garvin and guard Royce Newman to the practice squad. Newman was in for a try out yesterday. He was the forefront pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2021. He started 16 games as a rookie and was made eight since the last coming in 2023. So, let’s get into the two newest Chicago Bears very quickly. Starting with Jonathan Garvin, defensive edge, who also played for the Green Bay Packers and was drafted by them. So, maybe the Bears are bringing a little Packers insiders in, but nonetheless, let’s go through him. sell the 6’4 257-lb defensive edge is 26 years old attending Miami of Florida and was a 242nd pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2020. During his NFL career, he’s accounted for 32 tackles in 37 games, 17 of them being solo, one and a half sacks, all of that coming against the Chicago Bears, by the way. Seven quarterback hits and two pass deflections. And when I saw this signing, I’m shocked we didn’t bring back uh passing. That being said, you know, you move on from things, even though he did know this defense very well. Garvin is coming in as a practice squad guy. He knows the Packers and knows the NFC North as well. So, could be just a strategic move by the Bears. Along with that, too, the Bears bring in Royce Newman, who was recently with the Arizona Cardinals and actually talked about the Bears picking him up, but he’s also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers along with those Green Bay Packers. So going into the big offensive guard at 6’5, 310 pounds, very athletically built, just like what Ryan Pleszan and Cunningham are looking for for this line. He’s 28 years old, so has a lot of NFL experience and starting experience attending Mississippi, and he was the 142nd pick overall in 2021 by the Green Bay Packers. During his NFL career, he’s played in a total of 52 games, starting 24 of them. Again, 16 is all his rookie season, then eight after that. He can play right and left guard, so a versatile player that takes two spots versus one on the roster spots. And he’s played in over 1,700 snaps with only eight penalties. A big issue for this Bears offensive line and sounds like he comes in and maybe helps with teaching the guys and showing them a thing or two to lose those pre-nap penalties that are driving Ben Johnson and myself insane. But an instant plug-and-play player has experience and another solid pickup for the practice squad. You enter to win a custom Chicago Bears jersey of your choice. Win will be announced after Sunday’s live stream versus the Bengals. Now, let’s get into what Ben Johnson had to say today during his press conference entering week nine versus the Cincinnati Bengals. And he started off literally saying to the media, he said, “Guys, we’re moving on to the next week. We’re not talking about last week. Let’s talk about this week.” And he started off with Joe Flacco, who the Bears could be going against this upcoming Sunday. I’ll get into the injury news later as he’s dealing with a pretty significant injury in his throwing shoulder. But Ben Johnson knows how good he is, how good he’s been, and they’re preparing for him. So he said, “All focus is now on Cincinnati. Joe Flacco has made them look like a different team since entering. He had an incredible career. He’s got better as these weeks have gone on. When you have weapons like he has, it’s impressive how fast he’s adapted. Couldn’t agree more considering the Bengals are looking like a high-powered offense and Chase is absolutely on a tear having one of the best wide receiver seasons I’ve seen in a long time. But Flaco has been on fire for Cincinnati throwing for back-to-back 300 plus yard games. He is a factor in this upcoming game, though he may not play. I’ll get to the injury in a little bit. Big factors going into this one to say the least. But then also we got a little bit more into the signing from this morning and there’s been some concern about it especially from the Chicago media asking he’s had some locker room issues. How are you going to handle it? Ben Johnson instantly cleared that up saying we’re going to lock him into one spot and talking about on the field. He knows Dennis Allen in his style system. We’ll see if he’s ready to go this week or not, which sounds pretty confident. And he’ll be playing cornerback by the way. He won’t be playing um in safety. So, in regards to his locker room situation where he’s gotten some reports that he hasn’t been the greatest, he’s a competitive player. He loves being on the grass and playing football. We want to make sure he has a good support system. But same page before signing was big for Ben Johnson and he made that clear working with Ryan Poles saying we’ve got a very strong locker room, positive veteran influence. Nothing is more important than that room first and foremost. We are all aware how important it is and he knows that he’ll be on the inside for now and Ben Johnson left it at that and that’s why he’s here to play quarterback. He played nickel during his time with the New Orleans Saints under Ben Dennis Allen’s defense and along with that too he was hypered with the Philadelphia Eagles where he won a Super Bowl. And clearly the Bears needed a quarterback move like this. And it’s good that he knows this system instantly cuz Jaylen Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyreek Stevenson all being hurt and Deshawn Wright being quarterback one. He instantly goes into that quarterback two position this upcoming week against the Bengals if Tyreek Stevenson can’t go, which we have good news on Stephenson. So, just hang on a second before I get into the injury news. In regards to more injury news, in regards to Kyler Gordon, sounds like he’s going to be out for a minimum of four weeks. Ben Johnson said, “We’re hopeful it’s a short term and that we’ll get him back within the next four weeks, but it’s it’ll be four weeks.” I just have that feeling Kyler Gordon just unfortunately with how he’s been in his injury reports, he needs more extra time to heal. if the Bears are going to make a run later this year, especially if they start getting on a roll. They’d rather have him 100% healthy again for later this season versus potentially tweaking it and making it worse. Now, let’s go into the edges getting called out, which I loved every second of this question. So, he was asked about the pressure in the defensive line and especially the edge position. He said, “Listen, we need to take advantage of opportunities of one-on-one. We did not do our jobs. It makes the pass rush more challenging. The hits and pressures are equally as important as sacks. We are getting it done. We are affecting the quarterback. That being said, I think Sweat has started to ascend the last few games, but Dio has been a good interior rusher, but on the edge, we’re still working on that. He took a pause before he said that, too. And I was like, “Oh, snap.” Dio, who had eight tackles last game, a careerhigh for him against the Baltimore Ravens, only has one sack this year so far. We’re paying him $16.5 million. So, the fact that Ben Johnson is calling him out publicly and saying, “We need to do better with getting him there.” It’s also saying to Dennis Allen, get to work on your defensive line. We spent a lot of money here, a lot of time. We have good players. Make them get after the quarterback because sacks obviously are just as important as hits are pressures. Hits are pressures though, you can still make completions. If you get a sack, that ball’s not going anywhere and changes the momentum. So, happy Ben Johnson did that to say the least. But again, it’s got to change here quickly. Now, let’s go into the big injury news. Bears get some good news and then some bad news. And so, let’s start off with the Bears injury news to say the least. Right here, starting off the Bears injury report that was released on Wednesday, October 29th. Luther Burton still dealing with that concussion. I hope he gets better soon, but then it gets worse from the wide receiver room. DJ Moore and Roma Dunce both did not practice today. I know it’s only Wednesday, but still not good to see. Your top three wide receivers are on the injury report. Rashawn Johnson dealing with that back injury, did not practice again. Dominique Robinson dealing with a high ankle sprain. Said he was going to be out for a few weeks. He’s probably not going to play this upcoming week. But DeAndre Swift, who has been on the report the last couple weeks and has played, still dealing with that groin injury. Zakias, your wide receiver four, is also not playing. So, it’s going to be Jade Walker as wide receiver one at the moment. Expect the Bears maybe make a wide receiver move. Cole KTO limited heading back in the right direction after a back injury. Tyreek Stevenson with that shoulder injury limited heading back in the right direction. And Amen also full good to go might be back. Listen, it’s on the up for those two guys at the bottom. But man, that wide receiver room. Those injuries stink for the Bears. So hopefully they get better soon. And that DJ Moore, who’s been on this injury report, plays through the injury along with Roma Dunay, which he looked fine after the game. Could just be a little bit soreness in that heel. Now, let’s go over to the Bengals where Ian Rapaort tweeted out today, “Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder and his status is up in the air for Sunday versus the Bears.” Sources say Flacco left the loss to the Jets, then came back late. Coach Zack Taylor called him dayto-day and Jake Browning is the backup at the moment. Raport later then tweeted out, “Coach Zack Taylor said,”One issue is because Joe Flacco has only been there here for a few weeks, there isn’t the experience there to know what he can do on very limited reps. They’ll all try to make it happen if that’s the best outcome. Always prepare for the starter. And I think that the Bears again played scared this upcoming week against the Ravens, even without Lamar Jackson. And I don’t think Jackson would have been much different of a factor. Huntley was on an absolute streak against the Bears, but you have to prepare for Joe Flackle with how he’s been playing this year so far, you know, almost 1,600 passing yards, a 60.8 completion percentage with 5.6 yards per throw, nine passing touchdowns, same as Kale Williams, and six interceptions. And if they go with Jake Browning, the starting quarterback this year for the uh during when Joe Burrow was out, he has 757 passing yards, 64.5 completion percentage with six touchdowns, and eight interceptions. So that would be big for this Bears uh secondary if he goes. But still, you can’t act like it’s an easy walk in the park and it could be a redemption game for him for them trading for Joe Flacco and taking his starting opportunity. So guys, loaded Bears news for you guys and if you haven’t already, if you please could like this video along with commenting your thoughts and subscribing to the channel. With that, thank you as always to this episode of Just Another Year Chicago Bears. My name is Brody and as always, bear down, baby.
The Chicago Bears made several notable roster moves this week, headlined by the signings of defensive end Jonathan Garvin and guard Royce Newman to the practice squad. Newman, who just worked out for the team yesterday, now gets his shot in Chicago after being a fourth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2021. The former SEC standout started 16 games as a rookie and has appeared in 24 total, with his most recent start coming in 2023. His versatility and familiarity with NFC North competition could make him a valuable depth piece as the Bears battle through a string of injuries across the roster.
Jonathan Garvin brings another layer of experience to the defensive front. The former Miami Hurricane spent multiple seasons with the Packers and adds rotational value on the edge, a position the Bears are still trying to solidify. His addition gives defensive coordinator Eric Washington another option behind starters Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo, who’ve been key pieces but still have room to grow in the eyes of head coach Ben Johnson.
When asked about the pass rush, Johnson didn’t hold back. “I think Sweat has started to ascend the last few games. Dayo has been good as an interior rusher, but on the EDGE, we’re still working on that,” he said. Those comments send a clear message: Chicago’s coaching staff wants more consistent pressure off the edge, and they expect results soon. With Garvin now in the building, competition in the defensive line room is only going to intensify.
Meanwhile, the Bears are facing one of their deepest injury reports of the season to start the week. The team’s top four receivers — Rome Odunze (heel), DJ Moore (hip/groin), Luther Burden (concussion), and Olamide Zaccheaus (knee) — all did not practice, leaving Caleb Williams without his primary weapons early in preparation.
The running back room isn’t spared either, as D’Andre Swift (groin) and Roschon Johnson (back) both missed practice, creating uncertainty about Chicago’s offensive game plan heading into Week 9. On defense, Dominique Robinson (ankle) was also sidelined, while tight end Cole Kmet (back) and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (shoulder) were limited participants.
To add to the list, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is reportedly dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, putting his status for this week in doubt. The combination of offensive injuries and defensive adjustments makes this a critical stretch for Ben Johnson’s squad as they look to maintain competitiveness in a tough NFC landscape.
With Garvin and Newman stepping in, Chicago hopes to find both stability and spark — reinforcing the trenches while trying to keep pace in a physically demanding season. The next few practices will tell a lot about the team’s direction heading into the weekend.

Yyyyyyyyy
I don't like this…if you're going to call out players, why hasn't he called out Caleb…in all honesty, the defense was responsible for 3 wins
Not sure what presser you watched – Ben was quite complimentary of Sweat and had some very good things to say about Dayo…..his strength so far is on interior and working to improve from the edge. He certainly did not "call out" anyone.

Sorry Nick but if you don't have a signing of Miles Garrett, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.
The whole d line is overpaid. And under producing. I'm Hoping Booker can help

First time I am upset at Ben Johnson
Ben—You are not Belichick, and tiu are no longer affiliated with recent Detriot. You are not allowed to use any "on to next" ducking questions about a recent loss.
Those guys will suit up for Chicago!
Been here since Stupid Car Tray! 😂 Good job, Nic.
You get what you paid for this guy Dayo isn’t even an average edge. It’s another “Nate Davis” type contract. Ryan Poles always over pays for mediocre players in free agency. If Austin booker can get healthy they’re better off getting him some starts and developing that. It’s not the first whiff of a signing, you try to make it make sense but it makes zero sense this signing you got the same production from Dominique Robinson
Trusting the process

(Y) 3 wins I can see moving foward. If we are going to stream together any more we are going to have to start being victorious on 2nd and 3rd downs. Edge play has to improve, and the run defense has to make opponents close their run playbook, so our secondary can do what they do best. DLine where are you, this season is slipping away. #JustAnotherYear ??? or can we turn the page starting with the battered Bengals? #BEARDOWN
Y, of course a win. Getting a little tired of Ben calling out players. Why do it in public, is Ben trying to show us how tough he is? Knock heads in house. Dumping on players in public, a good way to alienate your players. How would Ben like it if Poles dumped on him in public every other day.
I hope Jahdae gets some reps
More sacks defense I am glad he did Bear Down FGB
You Bears fans are Nuts probably end with a 3 to 3 Tie Sunday jk Bear Down!
I think they should start looking at our training staff!!0
I'm a little bit worried about this one.
BEAR DOWN!
No matter who plays qb for cinci they still can score. We need the offense to carry us until the defense gets heathier.
Worst sign that whole defensive line and deph is garbage 🗑 trash sweat on showing up
