Depending on how you look at hockey it is either sad or happy that guys that this don’t have a roster spot any more. Personally I miss those days. Most of the time the tough guys were the nicest men on the team
I remember the brawl on Long Island game where like 5-6 players were already thrown out for fighting and he was still in there. He ended up coming off the bench to fight (I believe) Michael Haley because he tried to fight Brent Johnson. He got suspended 10 games.
Man when he came off the bench to wreck Haley when he was going after Brent Johnson in that Islanders riot, absolute legend

He was voted Players Player award by his teammates in 2009. He was brought in to replace George Laraque. Unlike George, Eric seemed to really enjoy his role has a face smasher.
I remember when he was playing with Pens. Probably one of the select few guys in league that could go toe to toe with guys like Dere Boogaard and Colton Orr. I also remember who they brought to replace him. Steve McIntyre and boy was he a wild one atleast in Ahl.
If I remember correctly he received multiple game misconduct penalties in “that one” Islanders game. Man fuck Gillies and Haley tho.
I loved Godard, he was an absolute beast of a heavy weight. I met him at the winter classic in Pitt, his nose was broken at the time and both eyes were black. I asked him to pull my jersey over my head but he declined and didn’t seem too thrilled about the request.
That its cool as shit.
I have a Gary Roberts Pens jersey though, so I am still better than you and always will be.
