As someone who hasn't watched the Sabres religiously since the 2007-2011 teams, this team is actually pretty fun to watch in my opinion. We seem to take a lot of penalties but we can kill them at least.

  1. if we upped our powerplay we would be a top tier team, but ill take a medium team that has a real shot.

  2. PK actually seems very good. Not just a fluke. I’m sure it will regress somewhat, because 90% is ridiculous, but I bet it will stay good.

  3. Im actually very intrigued by this roster. For once it seems like we have some good depth. Doan, Lyon and Timmins have been great additions. Kesserling should only get better. Kozak looked good before getting injured. And Lindy seems to be getting the best out of his players. Samuelson looks confident and using his body. Quinns playing great. Really hoping Norris can get healthy and stay healthy.

  4. Nothing about this team has felt flukey so far. They’ve been in essentially every game they’ve played this year outside of Colorado and it feels deserved. That’s even with a lot of injuries and some of our top guys being inconsistent.

If we can ever get somewhat healthy and get more consistent contributions from players like Norris, Tage, Dahlin and Power while guys like Doan, Samuelsson, Lyon and Benson continue having strong seasons they’d have a chance to win every game.

All in all, the depth of this team is the strongest it’s been since I can remember. Not many guys make me cringe when they’re on the ice and they mostly fit their designed roles well.

  5. I’m the most hopeful I’ve been in a few years. Mostly because, aside from the first 3 games, we are actually playing competent / fundamental hockey. Still don’t understand the PP philosophy of dropping the puck back until all 8 other skaters are a wall across the blue line, but ya know

  6. “If our powerplay was mid, we’d be a playoff team”

Monkey paw curls. Our powerplay is still bad but not bottom 3 in the league, but our great even strength scoring drops and we’re basically in the same spot we always are lol. This franchise is always playing whackamole with its problems lol.

  7. 1 point out of a playoff spot and only 5 from top spot. I like the Sabres chances and feel the club is turning a corner. As long as they keep coming together as a team, I think they can compete with any other club. 5-2-3 in the last 10 games is the main stat I’m looking at because the others will change as they gain confidence in winning and being hard to play against.

  8. Right about where I would expect except over achieving on the PK. That’s a very good thing to be over achieving on especially seeing as the team has been rotating goalies.
Takes a lot of discipline and sacrifice to be successfully.

  9. At expectation. We are mid in everything except goaltending catches the eyes.

What makes me happy is josh doan. Kids great, honestly makes the jj trade worth it. What makes me unhappy is kesselring..idk what it is with tall guys but THROW YOUR WEIGHT AND HEIGHT AROUND! him getting beat by geekie was acrid, awful. Same with powers. These guys need to get nastier around the defensive zone.

Lyons when hes rested is a nice surprise. I believe more in colton ellis than our coaching staff. I would trade away upl if a ellis/lyon/levi future is what were going with.

But fam, we arent not making playoffs with these performances.

  10. We already won a game in November so I’d say nothing can stop us from winning the cup now

  11. Well going by the mood of the subreddit lately, hopeful cause nobody here has been doom and gloom about the Sabres in a few days.

  12. We have looked like this or better a handful of times over the drought. We look mediocre but if we stay on this course we will be playing for playoffs in March/April.

Just feels like I’m waiting for the wheels to fall off, but I’m having a good time watching games and the arena has been fun.

The first few games of the season really pull down these stats as well. We’ll see if that was early season jitters/fluke or if that will happen again.

  13. Dahlin and Tage aren’t playing their best hockey right now and Norris is out and they are a .500 team. If they can get those guys going they should be a playoff team.

  14. I don’t think I have seen anything in these 12 games that makes me say, yea this is a playoff team.

It seems like we will hover around the middle of the pack

  15. Still pretty wary so far. Glad they’ve been in most games so far, but the entire East is .500 or above right now, so it seems like it’s gonna be an absolute bloodbath. Really not a lot of room for error

  16. it feels like we have an actual solid base to build off of, and it’s not smoke and mirrors. this next month is going to decide everything pretty much, but I have actual confidence that they will be able to do it and stay in it till the end at the very least.

  17. Every point feels like an absolute grind.

That said, they are getting points. It feels like every game is a tipping point. And yet, after every game, the board doesn’t tip one way or another

I really hope Adams isn’t sitting on his hands evaluating the team. I don’t mean he has to pull the trigger on a move today, but I don’t think he can sit on the this roster and hope it keeps it’s head above water. I think active improvement is needed.

But it’s nice to know this roster can compete and maybe even be a team that can be in the mix at the deadline
