Hire Nick Saban? Trade Rasul Douglas? Miami Dolphins Rumors After Chris Grier Got Fired | Q&A
All [Music] right, we got a Miami Dolphins mail bag coming your way. We are doing this live on Friday afternoon after the Miami Dolphins fired Chris Greer, which by the way, I know you’re watching this on Sunday. What a time that was. What a great day it was to have Chris Greer finally gone from this organization. Feels like I got a new lease on life, folks. And hopefully you feel the same way. First question coming in from Big Country. Thoughts on Nick Sabin for GM? Oh god, no. Absolutely not. And I mean, and I’m sorry to shoot you down so quick here, Big Country, but that would be a catastrophe. First of all, Nick Sabin ain’t leaving college game day to go back to the sidelines, specifically not going into the front office. And I know he was able to build a sustainable winning culture and system in Alabama. It is not the same thing as doing it in the NFL because you have to worry more about financial implications, draft picks. Like it’s just way more difficult. So I do not believe Nick Sabin would be good at the job. He is what in his 70s cope. So like you wouldn’t have that much of a runway with him as your GM. There would just be absolutely nothing positive to come out of hiring Nick Sabin as your GM other than to say to the media that Nick Sabin is your GM. It would be an absolute train wreck. No chance I would support that in any way. Peter with a five. Do you think Stephen Ross wants to keep Mlen because he knows he will lose? I almost honestly thought of Josh Macau instead of Mike McDaniel. Um, no. So, obviously, we talked about it after Greer got fired that it was reported that Mike McDaniel will be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for the rest of the season at least. And that basically tells you the new GM when it is officially hired in January, probably will make the decision on if Mike McDaniel will be the head coach next year or they will hire and bring in their own new guy. And I’m sure that will be an interesting topic. But I don’t believe Stephen Ross wants the Dolphins to lose whatsoever. Although it would help the draft spot in the order in April, I don’t think he wants that. He wants to have a competitive product on the football field. He wants to have a shot to make the playoffs. And I just believe that Steven Ross has a really good relationship with Mike McDaniel. It’s been reported that he does inside the media. and they gave him an extension prior to the 2024 season. They want him to be here. So, I think they’re just going to give McDaniel the rest of the season and not create chaos in Miami of firing both the GM and the head coach and give the uh new GM a chance to make his own decision. Talk to McDaniel, learn about McDaniel in his own right, and make the decision from there. That’s kind of how I view this going. But what say you? Should Mike McDaniel be fired too? I mean, I say yes, but let me know your thoughts. Type Y for yes or N for no. Uh, we won’t see a firing of McDaniel potentially until in January after the Dolphins hire a GM. M Sports Review. Might as well hire Eric Bolstra. And all seriousness know you guys should go hire Jesse Mint or Crest Shula. Yeah, you know, I I we’ve talked about this before. I thought these two guys are very intriguing options. both extremely young. Early 40s, late 30s for both Mentor and Schula. I think Shoula, what does he think? 39 I thought I believed. Mentor about 42. Um, I think Mentor is a very real option here. He is the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. I think Chad Alexander, the assistant GM of the Chargers, is someone in line to potentially be a GM in his own right soon. And I could absolutely see if Miami went with Chad Alexander that he brings over mentor since they already have a working relationship inside the Chargers organization. Chris Schula, obviously the grandson of legendary coach Don Schula. Going to be very interesting, man. Very interesting. But those are two interesting young head coach candidates that are definitely out there. But you got to make the decision to move off Mike McDaniel first. and we’ll see if that is made in January. Man with a question. Roly and Co, please give us your view of permanent GM options for 2026 season if the temp doesn’t stay. Thanks. Well, great question, Mac. Um, we did a full video on this a couple days ago, but if you didn’t watch, we’ll give you a brief look at six names I’m intrigued with here. Uh, I think Champ Kelly obviously is going to be on there, but if you’re looking at guys who aren’t the interim, the five that I talked about was Lewis Riddick from ESPN, who I’m very low on. I just wanted to talk about it and let you know that I am not in on Lewis Riddick because I know you guys uh have asked about that. But Ray Agnu, Chad Alexander, who we just talked about, Ian Cunningham, and Ed Dods are certainly all options. My top options are Ed Dods and Ray Agnu because I love what the J the Lions do in terms of their roster construction. They’ve hit on a lot of draft picks. Aman Ross St. Brown, um Jamir Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam Leaporta, Aiden Hutchinson, Penet Suel. Um they they they’ve been phenomenal and I think that’s a guy I would like to have in my organization. But same could be said for Ed Dods and the Colts and he has some experience I think working with the Baltimore Ravens that I really like. Another name that I was told to keep my eye on from a source is Josh Williams, director of scouting and football operations currently for the San Francisco 49ers. He was a finalist for the Jacksonville Jaguars GM job a year ago before it was given to the young fella. I forget his name actually. Do you remember? No. Um, but he was a finalist there. So, keep your eye on Josh Williams. But those list of six names plus Josh Williams are guys to keep your eye on for as potential full-time long-term GM candidates. Keith McDaniel for next season. Let him draft a QB of his choice and build that defense. No. Like listen, who knows? Yeah, maybe they do ultimately keep Mike McDaniel next year and just have a new GM. That’s certainly a real possibility. I don’t think it’s smart though because yes, McDaniel has been given a really bad roster right now. Like he has like the offensive line has been terrible. The defense is terrible. And that all reflects on the GM Chris Greer. But Mike McDaniel signed off on the Tua massive extension. That was a bad decision. So you have to blame Mike McDaniel for a lot of that decisionmaking process of extending Tua. And I think we’ve consistently seen, by the way, that McDaniel doesn’t have this team prepared, doesn’t have this team locked in, considering they consistently come out flat in the second half, and they have a lack of attention to detail and a ton of procedural mistakes. Let’s just call a spade a spade. The entire big three need to go. And when I talk big three, it’s GM, head coach, quarterback. That’s all that really matters in this league. Let’s be real. If you have a good quarterback, a good head coach, and a good GM, you will be a winning football team consistently. Philadelphia Eagles, good head coach, good quarterback, good GM, they win. The Lions, good GM, good quarterback, good head coach, they win. The Chiefs, good I the list could go on and on. All of the good teams have at least above average players in those or people I should say in those three positions of power. Mike McDaniel is not an above average coach. He is a below average coach. Is he a really smart offensive mind? Without a question. He will be a fantastic offensive coordinator again because he was the OC in San Francisco before being the head coach for us in Miami. He will be a great head or offensive coordinator again. He’ll thrive. Heck, he might even parlay more success into another head coaching opportunity like Josh McDaniels did later on in his career, but he is not at the current moment built to be a head coach for the Miami Dolphins. I’m not keeping him whatsoever. But it’s not my decision. And I’ll say this, if the whoever the new GM is in January makes the decision to keep Mike McDaniel, I won’t support that decision. And I will think a little differently on that new GM m sports review trade pitch. My Packers get Rul Douglas. You guys get a sixth round pick this year. I’m in. Listen, a lot of the trade rumors for Miami will be what veterans stay, what veterans go. It’s been reported out there and we’ve talked about it that the veterans that people have called upon Jaylen Wadd, excuse me, Jaylen Phillips, Bradley Chub, Matthew Judon, Rousul Douglas, those are the five that players have called Miami about. I don’t think they will trade Wadd. I pray to God they don’t trade Jaylen Wadd. Um any of the other four though, very much on the table. Like I talked about this a lot, but these guys who are on one-year deals or on massive contracts like Bradley Chub will not be on the roster a year from now. They simply will not. Especially now that it’s confirmed a new GM and a new regime is coming in that have not drafted these players, did not trade for them, did not sign them. they are going to want to run things their way and almost reset the books and start from zero because that’s where we’re at right now with this roster basically outside of like four players which is Wadd Han Patrick Paul and like Chop Robinson and Kenneth Grant you could throw in there too. So these guys that are in one-year deals they’re not returning. You’re not resigning them in the offseason. So trade them and get a day three pick. Like it might even just be like a pick swap where you’re saying Douglas and a seventh for a sixth. Cool with me. Like I also feel like Rul Douglas has been so damn good for you, you actually owe it to him to trade him to a contending team if there is interest. So yeah, if a sixth or seventh round pick comes calling for Su Douglas, I will absolutely deal him away. Make sure you are subscribed. We go live when breaking news happens. Chris Griff fired. We went live. We did his mailbag. And if you want to be featured on the next mailbag, you got to be subscribed to be here for our live content. Next time we’ll be live on the channel um is probably uh Tuesday during the NFL trade deadline. The only other way we’re live before that is if Jaylen Wadd got traded. That would be the only one that stuns me enough to go live. But anyway, subscribe to the channel for daily Dolphins content. JRay, do you believe Ed Dods would want the Dolphins GM job to return to the AFC East? He was previously with the Bills when Josh Allen was drafted. You know, while we’re filming this, let me look up and just double check the Ed Dod’s like career path. I thought he was with the Ravens, too, was he not? He his career he was with the Seahawks as a scout and then Colts. Oh, he’s this I don’t know if we’re thinking of the same guy. Ed Dods is never with the Bills. I He was never with the Ravens either, to be fair. I thought he was. Ed Dods, the current assistant GM for the Colts since 2018. Was a scout for the Seahawks and then senior personnel executive for the Seahawks and then went to the Colts. So, he’s been with the Seahawks and Colts his entire career. I like Ed Dods a lot, man. I think he would be a great hireer. I don’t know who you’re thinking of in terms of the Bills GM who was with their when the Bills drafted Joshua Ellen. Um, so sorry about that, but yeah. So, I guess I can’t really give you an answer, but I do really like Ed Dod. Don’t know who you’re referring to, though. All right, David Crabtree with a $10 super chat. What do you think? Should they have a fire sale? Uh, like I mentioned a second ago, all four of those veterans. The veterans, yes. Waddle, keep, han, keep. Would I trade multiple of that group of four? Judon, Phillips, Chub, Douglas, yes, I would add Ma Fitzpatrick in there. He He’s been awesome for you, but he has one more year left on his contract. And if some team is calling and trades a third round pick for Minka Fitzpatrick, hell yeah, man. Could like, let’s be real here. There’s a chance you get a third for Jaylen Phillips, a third for Minka. Could you imagine trading both of them before Tuesday’s deadline and going into the NFL draft this upcoming April in 2026 with six picks in the top 100. You already have four. You have your first round pick, your second round pick, your own third round pick, and the Houston Texans third round pick because you traded back last draft in the fourth round and you picked up their third. So if you traded Phillips and Minka for six or third rounder, you’d have four third round picks. All third round picks obviously inside the top 100. So you would have an abundance about of picks to add young talent in the top 100. You would also be able to package some of those third rounders to move up to maybe grab another top 50 guy in the second round potentially. So like it just gives you a lot of different options. So, if Minka is available to trade for a fifth or third or Jaylen Phillips, I’m in. Absolutely. Who do you want to be the next GM of the Miami Dolphins? A lot of names out there. I think Chad Alexander, Ed Dods, Ryagnu, they’re all options. They’re all options. That’ll do it for today’s show. We’ll continue to bring you daily coverage of the Miami Dolphins. And when the NFL trade deadline is here on Tuesday afternoon, we will be live on the channel until the deadline and until it passes. So subscribe and join us for more content. [Music]

Y
Now we're getting into dumbass territory NO college coaches and why trade your best CB? Unless you're honest enough to admit it's a rebuild 🤨
Big “ Y “
Y
He's not going to be the Alabama Coach.
Saban coached the dilphins and quit, we dont need no quiters
If u bring in Jesse mintee hes dc. How does he coach the offense and who moves into oc spot. Do we keep weaver and build him up a better defense next season. Failed signings this year for corners and not really solid safety. Front 4 pass rushing has been disappointing thus far this season.
N
Never hire Nick Saben! Never!
As much as I appreciate what Saban did in Alabama, he's already screwed us over once. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd love McCarthy to be our Coach
y
Family, I would rather bring Chris Greer back then to have Nick Saban here again, straight up. And that saying a lot.😆
Yes
The Dolphins only problem was the GM Chris Grier. We could always get an assistant head coach for the head coach Mike McDaniel.
I think the Dolphins need to stick to the running game 3 RBs committee. Run the ball more than passing the ball. We may need another RB in case of injuries. But I think Madison is coming back next year and maybe Tyreek Hill too.
How about if Mike McDaniel was the GM too. He should know best what he needs.
It was worth going 2-7 to get rid of GM Chris Grier. He is ok but I disagreed with a lot of what he did. But he didn't have much cap space to work with. The 7 million we waisted on Jalon Ramsey we could have spent for Jonnu Smith.
If the new GM keeps McD he will be broken hearted without your support Nic 😆
Uhh. Nick saban was head coach in 2005-6. With 15-17 record. Need a nfl gm
🤫PSST‼️ Saban hates Miami.
Eww no to Saban
As an had his chance move on
