Big O and Ira Winderman – Let The Miami Heat Season Play OUT!
This is the big [Music] show. Ira, here we go. We got the Charlotte Hornets tonight. The Heat looking to go three and one. Now, before we get to the talk of the Heat going three and one, uh, talk to me about the whole Terry Roier stuff, because I, by the way, I find it very humorous that Heat fans are all crying about getting their first round pick back when if Terry Roier was kicking ass, they wouldn’t be asking for their first round. Absolutely. It would be the opposite. Is why you’re taking our superstar away over a minimal gambling. Absolutely. The other way. Exactly. For me, I I you know, you traded for Kyle Lowry and you know, you you you’ve done like a whole bunch of things the last 10 years that I can go on and talk about like really stuff that is unheatike the last 10 years. So, I’m going to chalk it up to this is just another bad decision and karma is you deserve to lose that first round pick to be quite honest, but who knows? It might be different in the NBA. What do you think happens with all this silliness? Um, I think Terry Rosier is done as an NBA player. I think that’s pretty apparent. Yes. I think the federal court case drags on to a degree that if Terry rolls on someone bigger, just becomes a misdemeanor as far as he is and puts the NBA in a tough position. I don’t think the NBA has enough clarity to say we’re not going to pay you without due process. I do think the NBA will recognize this is an extremely unusual case and will try to come up with some sort of not compensatory compensatory means but the fact is you can’t operate below 14 players on your active roster for more than two weeks. So if Terry is ruled ineligible then the Heat have to add a player but can’t under the tax. My thought is this Terry Rosier will continue to get paid until his case is adjudicated. they will get tax and and cap relief to add a replacement player because they already have Tyler out, they have C uh Casper is out and they have that issue. And I do think that the draft pick case is so unique that I think there is a chance of some sort of compensatory pick because here’s the deal big O. In every trade call, you have three parties. You have, let’s say, in this case, the Heat. You have the Hornets. The know the Hornets didn’t know Qua possibly, but the guy sitting in the middle is the NBA, is Mr. NBA. Maybe not Jerry West in the logo, but a league lawyer. He sure as heck had to know. So, here he is passing along this trade, knowing something is going on, and I understand. This to me is like when you sell a house and someone says, “You didn’t disclose everything.” I didn’t know. I didn’t check. I didn’t want to know. It happens all the time. You can insist on inspection, but those kind of things happen. So, I I I floated a bunch of scenarios to people around the league in the league. I’ve said, “What if a player is getting mental health counseling?” Okay. And he decided all of a sudden he didn’t want to play anymore and he was traded. Can the NBA or the other team even tell you under HIPPA laws? We saw that with the Dolphins draft choice who had his mental health issues during the whole incognito case. Did they have to tell another team? Could they have told another team? You have that. There was an interesting story when Damen Lillard was being offered by for trade by the Trailblazers. He was in the midst of a divorce. That’s among the reasons he wanted to come to Miami, bring his kids with him, have better custody situation. Does a team have to tell another team, my guy’s in the middle of a divorce and he’s going to be mentally unstable and is going through a tough time? In other words, big O, how much do you have to tell? So, the Hornets were just doing business and I don’t blame them at all. And I don’t want to say I do the same thing, but I can understand you tell what you need to tell and not Iota more and not say, “But he does have this ingrown toenail problem.” No, if he can play, he can play. But I think the league has to realize, think about their investigation. When Adam Silver spoke last week on Prime, but that that’s the thing, Ira, leagues have spent their lives. This is not an NBA thing because in the NFL that nobody they they didn’t think the Ray Rice video was going to get out, baby. Correct. And it got out. And then all of a sudden, oh, now we’re going to lay the hammer on the guy. Exactly. So Adam Silver goes on and goes, we dumped Terry Rosier’s phone and we found him innocent. Okay. where he, you know, we didn’t find anything to find him guilty. Let’s put it that way. They don’t have subpoena power, by the way. They don’t have subpoena power. I understand that. But I also know this. So many of these team security heads are either ex FBI, CIA, DEA. They know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone. That’s what they get paid for. Big O. In a multibillion business, heck, we might be approaching trillions here. You have to have the level of security of someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone. So I think there is a caveat mour thing here. But the way the NBA so cursory just cast it aside and Adam Silver said we couldn’t find something. Yes, I think you have to rejudicate as long as you are a cap league and a tax league and you can’t trade consecutive first round picks that you don’t have or you have to have one in consecutive years. There’s so many rules outside of the law that I think you have to operate that way also. So yeah, I think the NBA has to go look back because the NBA on one hand can’t put someone on administrative leave but say we didn’t find anything wrong. Well, if you don’t find anything wrong and you see all these this Fed stuff, does it still come and lead to a trail back to anything definitive being done or do you have to wait to the court case? So I think the NBA is absolutely tied on a pretzel. You are right. Roger Goodell never acts until he is forced to act and forced to act so he does something. I think it’s the same thing here. But if I’m the Heat, yeah, I am actively every day going to the leaks. What are you doing? What are you doing? What about now? What’s happening now? And I think they should be doing that. I don’t necessarily fault them because like you said, Big O to start our Acura Penrook Pines report. If Terry Rosier was balling out, the only question that he would have is this. When we getting Terry back, we need Terry. And I’ll give you an example. Simone Fonteio came up with an injury yesterday was on the injury report. Norman Powell is now on the injury report for the Hornets game. You’re without Tyler Miro. You’re without Casperis. There would have been times in this stretch. They probably would have given Terry a shot. And who knows? He is such a uh as Eric Bolster says, ignitable player. Maybe he would have ignited you over the Magic. You just don’t know. So, this is a tangled web for the NBA. What they can’t do is this. We’re done. We’re out of it. See you, Miami Heat. Tough break on the cap. They can’t do that, right? No, they can’t do that. That’s they’re definitely going to have to do some kind of a tweak there to uh to take care of the Miami Heat. Uh you just mentioned my Moodiest dental MVP of the night uh the other day, which has been Norman Pal because his consistency in the first three games. He’s been the most consistent player in the first three games. He’s been kind of the heart and soul of that offense. I agree. In the first three games, he’s now got a groin injury. And I’m thinking, okay. Yeah, I would probably hold him out tonight and and again and maybe and maybe play him on Sunday. I might keep him out tonight and and Wednesday and then or is it tonight or Thursday in San Antonio? Tonight and Thursday against WBY. Yeah. Yeah. And then and then you know cuz I agree the Knicks the Knicks wins and the Grizzlies wins gave you a little wiggle room. You need people to be right. So I agree with that. And yet I wrote a feature on him today and honestly I don’t think he meant this on purpose but he his quote was I’m lowmaintenance. I’m super lowmaintenance guy. Yes. I don’t think he was referring to the Jimmy thing but after we had the highest maintenance player in the league one year ago. Big O. How refreshing is it to have low maintenance? Oh dude. But I I I I never thought of Jimmy when he said that. what he meant by he’s the guy you don’t have to draw a play for all the damn time. He’s the guy that knows how to fill the lane. But I think it also had a second meaning. Oh, that that’s people want to go into that direction. They’re always thinking those kind of things. I totally understood what he was saying because everybody loves those kind of players. The guys that that are are are he he explained it. He’s been on so many teams that he’s had to it’s like it’s like the kid that you know what I just had a player on from the Fort Lauderdale United. She’s an Army kid. So every two years she was moving to a different school and everything and she and that kid learns how to adjust well most of the time I think. Sure. But that they have to adjust to a new environment. New environment. New environment. And that’s he explained it right there. It had nothing to do it had nothing to do with Jimmy. He explained how he has been in so many places and I and I agree with that. But but but this is what you need is low maintenance after last year’s nightmare and he does that. And you’re right. Think about this. Norman Powell went from a championship in Toronto to Portland to the Clippers to the Heat. You could be bitter at Eastep there. He wasn’t. Jimmy Butler went from the Bulls to the Timberwolves. He was bitter. From the Timberwolves to the Sixers, he didn’t want to go. kind of bitter from the Heat. Then he was traded and forced his way out. Kind of bitter. So, it’s different. Yes. You know what this team is? And I know it’s because they have a winning record as we’re talking, but they’re refreshing because they’re low drama. And that’s what this team needed to get away from. Keep the main thing the main thing. Keep it on the court. That’s what they’ve done through the first week of the season. It’s good and it’s bad because you do need stars. Stars have egos. I agree. And so, you know, because you know, Zo’s going to have an ego and Wade, as quiet as he is, he’s going to have his ego. And, you know, any star you’ve had, they’re going to have, you know, some because that’s what makes them who they are. And that’s kind of one thing that I see missing from this because when it gets ugly at the end of a game, there’s not that one guy that we say, “Oh, Bayis, Bis, Bailis out.” And that is something that needs to And you’re totally right. And if this team doesn’t add another player, they could be good. They could be fun. But at the moment of truth, the other team will have superstar A. Whether it’s Giannis, whether it’s Jaylen Brunson, who I’m now putting in that category, possibly whether Jason Tatum is back or not, Donovan Mitchell, they’ll have that player for the moment of the truth. And the Heat will go, right, Tyler or Donovan or Bam. And they’ll have secondary choices. So, you’re right. But you know what? It’s October going to November. Enjoy it. Live in the moment a little. But Ira, this is what we have talked about from day one. What we’re hoping for is that one of the young guys rises and becomes that. And it’s only game three, four tonight. Let’s relax. Let’s chill out. Let’s let the damn season play out and let’s find out if we have something. If not, it’s what Spo said how everybody’s kind of buying in. Well, okay. If you don’t have a star, well then you’re going to have to do what you did with the the the scrubberinis at 31 and 10. There has to be no egos. Everybody has to play for each other. Everybody has to set up each other. There has to be team uh rebounding, which is one of the things that I’ve noticed that a lot of people are rebounding. That’s something extremely important. If they have that attitude that we’re going to play like a chain linked to each other all the way through a string. Yep. Right. If if you can play that way, it’ll be fun and it’ll give you a chance to win along the way. We hope somebody rears its ugly head and says, “Hey fellas, here. I’m No, I’m here and I’m here to take you to the next level.” You know, that’s what you hope for. But if you don’t have that guy, you’re going to have to play in sync. Totally. As far as that might get you. But you know what? We have seen so many teams like that. You remember the Atlanta team with the five allstars and Kyle Corver and Mike Benhoer got him to the conference finals. They never had a chance. Some people even say last year’s Cavaliers didn’t have enough at the end. They weren’t solid enough. So I agree. The Richard Hamilton Pistons aren’t considered a superstar le Pistons team by the way. Right now they did get it done, but I agree with Ben Wallace and Chanty Bilips and and Rasheed Wallace. They had elite defense. They had elite defense. That’s what really carried. But they didn’t really have that star. They didn’t really have that star. Like Hamilton was their guy, but Hamilton, none of us will ever look at Richard Hamilton like we look at Dwayne Wade, right? You know what I’m saying? Correct. And so that and a Larry Brown too, which also helps. But you’re going to have to play that kind of game. You’re going to have to be that kind of team right now. Uh so injury-wise, what do we know about the up in the air? Looks like back. We don’t know about Norm. I know he’s a gamer. He’ll try to get out there. groins are tricky as you know that no Tyler probably for two more weeks. Uh Casperis even if he was available I’m not so sure the rookie plays as long as they’re winning as long as Drew Smith is doing this the constant stabilizing thing he’s doing. So hey you ride the wave as long as you can and who knows even though Bam wasn’t at his percentage best the other day maybe without Norm he can make a statement against the Hornets center. So you know what if you are not awful you should always be able to compete with no matter what you have against the Hornets. So that’ll be interesting. By the way, an example for Heat Nation out there, his name is Austin Reeves. That’s the Lakers got lucky. They found the kid. Where Where was Reeves drafted? Late first round, I think. I think might even be second round. Second round. Yeah. Yeah. What? He put up 51 the other night. I mean, he won. He has n one of only two Lakers with 90 points in consecutive games. So, yeah, he’s right up there with him and what he’s done. And you need a guy Tyler can be a player like that. Remember, this is without LeBron. is without Luca. Someone has to score. So, he’s doing it. But he’s doing it like like Ira, did you expect Austin Reeves to turn out to be this but let’s not forget how Tyler Herro started last season? He was doing it also. And he was doing it a high percentage. He was doing it efficiently. So, let’s not forget what Tyler was. Look, we know it comes down to the playoffs. We know it comes down to what have you done for me lately in the postseason? I get that. But don’t demean Tyler. Again, I just posted a notebook. Actually, this had nothing to do with Tyler. My point was how the Lakers got lucky with Austin Reeves is exactly what I’m hoping the Heat get lucky with with one of their young guys. And maybe they will and maybe it’ll be Nico and maybe it’ll be another guy. Give him a chance. Give him the forum. Give him the playing time and you’ll see. Exactly. All right. What do you got going on for uh tonight? Well, I did my Norman Powell story just saying, “Hey, low maintenance. Thank you. Let’s enjoy the day. Keep it simple.” Sper not calling plays. just posted a story about Eric Sper said, “Don’t ask me if it’s going to be an issue when Tyler Hero comes back. The more talent you have, the better. They will work him in. We’re still two weeks away there.” Wrote a story about how the Heat Geek team is getting going. All the guys who you saw cut, who played for them in the preseason, are going to be up in Sou Falls. So again, that might be one of the guys you’re talking about developing. You never know when someone is going to pop somewhere. Duncan Robinson, Tyler Johnson, we’ve seen all those stories o over the years. So you have that going on also. And I did write my ask IRA today about hey NBA as long as you’re gonna have a captain attacks and you’re gonna have roster rules you can’t just sit back you know see no evil you know talk no evil anything you have to go out and remedy this with the Miami Heat. They are not whole right now because of your league rules not because of federal rules. So I think the NBA at least owes the Heat a return phone call to say hey we’re going to do X Y and Z. We just need to get our cards and our house in order. Which I can understand. And I know you talked about it in your article with Tyler coming back. The the the dynamics of it is one thing that I am kind of intrigued because I don’t know if your defense suffers a little bit more because he’s on the court more and your offense which you’re doing a beautiful job of spreading the ball around hero as a pick and roll player. You’re right. It’s it’s that vacuum will that be a vacuum and suck shot. Talent finds a way under great coaching. talent doesn’t find a way under mediocre coaching. If you’re ever asking me, I want one person in the NBA to be a problem solver on the bench, my vote will go to Eric Spolster every look what he’s done in the first couple games. He goes, “This is the style I need from you guys right now.” And and they’re playing it because they they really can’t go to some other styles that they’re not gonna they’re not going to succeed in. This is the style. And I you know, Eric Eric, you know me, I I he’s he’s he’s the man. He’s the man, dude. He He’s the Bitcoin of that organization. Put it that way. All right. Follow him on Twitter at Ira Heatbeat and catch his exceptional work there at the South Florida Suns Sentinel. Thank you, Ira. We will catch up next week, my friend. Next week in our Acura Pengro Pines report when I’m out in LA and I will talk to you at Crack of Dawn. Thank you, Big O. You got it, my brother. That’s right. Out in the West Coast. If the hornets and NBA new about the FBI being after terry, we should get our pick back..
Reaves was undrafted
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The one thing no one is mentioning is Micky Arison is paying 26 million for a player that's suspended that the NBA cleared. Unable to trade or waive, just have to pay him to take up a roster spot. RIDICULOUS!!!!
Big O can u admit u was wrong abt heat
Heat dolphins ml Thursday 😊
Terry Rozier will not be paid while being placed on administrative leave. His salary will be held by the league until court trial determines whether he gets paid or not. News reports say the IRS had a 8 million dollar lien on Rozier's house. His lawyer says it's $100,000 but public records say otherwise. HEAT losing pick for trade, no cap relief, unable to fill the now empty 15th player position, and Terry is untradable. Congress has now demanded that NBA commissioner Adam Silver and other officals testify in front of a House Committee explaining why Rozier was not charged. Saying this act gives the impression fans cannot trust the integrity of how games are played.
Again with Ira defending Tyler. 7 years not long enough? Injuries, bad defense, isolation, disappearing in late and important games. But he gets his points and minutes all the way to a play in. Point forward JJJ and 9 other players are providing a fast paced, selfless game. Not a fluke. Not temporary. I predict a winning record of at least 16 games above .500 (49-33). And we will do it without that "star." 10 players who believe in each other. JJJ, Pelle, Jovic, Smith, Simone, Powell, Ware, Bam, Davion, Wiggins. That's all we need. If we keep winning big we will consistently see late in games Young, Gardner, Keshad and soon KJ. 14 players ready to go. Playing as one. There is no need for Tyler. Get a first rounder for him and let him get a big contract somewhere else. Tyler can always come back. For now let's run, pass, run all season long. Enjoy Heat Nation. Gonna be historic. Been waiting since Wade left Miami. The first time. Did enjoy his farewell tour though and the purple shirt guy second time around.
It's just the fact because we got ripped by the hornets and the NBA I'd they knew that's why we want compensation
Ira loves him some Tyler.
