Sigh… Post-Game Fan Reaction: Oilers vs Canucks

I I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I don’t know. Uh I might be cursed when I go on the road to watch this team. Uh the Oilers lose four to three to the Vancouver Conucks. And I know there was a Canucks fan, Notorious TV. Um I was supposed to meet and wear a Canucks jersey if the Oilers lost. Now, I had no idea how to contact you. I was hoping maybe there would be something in the DMs. Uh, I did wait around a bit in my section which was 3:26. Uh, I didn’t have anyone reach out to me. So, Notorious, I do apologize for not being able to meet up and wear the Canucks jersey as part of our friendly bet where if the Oilers lost, I’d have to wear a Canucks jersey. Uh, but I hope you had a very fun time at the game regardless. I know I had a fun time until I didn’t have a fun time. The Oilers lose four to three to the Vancouver Conucks. And um I I I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel here. I I want to be frustrated because I think overall the Oilers actually played pretty decent, especially five on five. I thought the Oilers five on five game was much better than it has been in recent games. Uh they did continue their strong play from the Seattle game into the Vancouver game. Difference in in this game honestly is in the crease. It’s goalending. Um, Calvin Pickard did not make the saves when the team needed him to, and that Demco made the saves when the Canucks needed him to. Now, that’s not to say that Calvin Pickard made no saves tonight. Uh, but a couple of those Canucks goals tonight, I think Calvin Pickard probably wants back. Yes, there was a couple breakdowns. Uh, the one goal was a nice setup by Evander Kane. Threw it into the middle. Partial breakaway. Um, beats Pickard. I think it was Besser’s goal. Beat Calvin Pickard through the five hole. Um, you know, there are things we can nitpick. There are things we can nitpick at this game. Goalending is one of them. Defensive coverage, one of them. Special teams, you know, I thought the special teams was okay. They went one for two on the power play. Uh, they went one for two on the kill. Obviously, both teams 50%. Um, when it comes to the special teams, uh, again, Atradeco is a a gate breaker. I think the biggest disappointment as an Oilers fan tonight is the fact that Vancouver um I mentioned this in the pregame report. Vancouver is short-handed. They have a lot of players from Abbottzford. They have a lot of AHL caliber talent on their roster, but they will outwork you. And uh a guy like Kefir Sherwood is an example where he is an NHL player. Obviously, he is not AHL caliber, but Kefir Sherwood, he is the hardest working player on the ice for both teams whenever he’s out there. And he was rewarded. He was rewarded with a couple goals. Uh, one of them was taken back. One of them he’s ended up scoring the winner in overtime. Uh, Kefir Sherwood is something that Oilers players should be looking at and being like, “Wow, how can we work that hard to put the puck in the net? How can we work that hard away from the puck and with the puck along the boards in the neutral zone?” The Oilers have a lot of players that need to start looking in the mirror here, honestly. And and this isn’t to call anyone out specifically, but there are a lot of players in Edmonton right now where they have to look in the mirror. They really do. They have to look in the mirror and start to ask themselves, am I doing enough? And Chris Knobblock, as a head coach, he needs to look in the mirror and start asking himself, am I getting enough out of these players? What am I doing as a head coach to get the most out of these players? The Oilers fell behind in this game two nothing and 3-1 in the third period. Um, they did come back. They scored two goals to tie it. Leon Dryidle had one of those goals late on the power play, tied it up. Jack Rosik scored very early in the third period to make it a 3-2 game. In the second intermission, I had a conversation with Tyler from Oilers Nation. And um, you know, there was a few people from Oilers Nation that weren’t feeling great. And I told Tyler, I was like, “I feel good. I feel a big comeback tonight.” And when Leandre said it’ll tie the game, I was like, “Okay, yeah, the comeback’s happening. this team’s going to win the game. And then it goes to overtime. Um they Vancouver gets one shot on goal. It goes in. Calvin Picker can’t make the stop. Yes, it’s a deflection. Um I I don’t know what they were looking at, by the way. Were they looking at the the potential for a high stick or a potential for offside and overtime? I know they were looking at it for a bit before they determined it was a goal. Uh those of you who are watching at home, please let me know. I I I did I wasn’t quite sure what was going on when I was in the arena. Um, but at the end of the day, the Oilers, you cannot they cannot keep playing from behind. You cannot just expect to come back in the third period every single game. This is unacceptable. Um, from an Oilers fan perspective, this team right now is just not good enough. Plain and simple, they’re not good enough. Did they play good enough to win tonight? Yes. But did they play a 60-minute team effort? Absolutely not. And I’m pretty sure Matt Seavoy and Ike Coward played maybe eight minutes total tonight. I haven’t had a chance to take a look at the box score yet. When I got back to my hotel room, I immediately just put up the stats on the screen that you see. So, uh, we’ll take a look at some of the stats here. Shots on goal, the Oilers outshot Vancouver 29 to 27. Faceoff percentage, uh, that tracks when I was watching the game in arena. I’m pretty sure Duttle was kicked out of half the draws that he tried to take. Vancouver did dominate the faceoff dot. Uh, power play each 50%. Uh they each took two penalties. Hits, it was not a very physical game. Although I will say Ty Emerson, he had a nice big hit in the third period. Loved to see that. Uh hits were 19 to 14 for Edmonton. Block shots 1813 Vancouver. Giveaways 1713 Canucks and takeaways 5 to3 for Vancouver. This was a game where the Oilers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. They could have won this game in overtime. The big guns had one shift in OT. But Chris Knoblock, I will give Chris Knobblock a little bit of credit here. Not a lot of credit, but I’ll give him some credit. He did not line blend very much tonight. The only time he actually blended the lines was when Edmonton made it a onegoal game in the second period. They made it 2-1 and then he put Leon and Connor together for a couple of shifts and one of them ended up backfiring. Vancouver made it 3-1 late and and then in the third period, credit to Chris Knobblock. He did not just load up uh Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle. The team, they grinded away. They they they got a point. We’ll take the point, but a point right now is not good enough. And this team right now still has another level to reach. A lot of fans, there’s a few ways we can look at this as as fans here. We can look at this as October hockey, right? Right. We’re used to the Oilers not really playing that well in October. We can look at this as October hockey. The team will start to pick it up in November and December. They’ll go on their their traditional November December run and then they’re second in the Pacific Division by the new year. And we’re all laughing once the playoffs start. But the Oilers still I don’t know. This is an interesting team. Interesting as in frustrating as in identitywise I don’t know what they are. at least tonight on the second half of back-to-back. Vancouver was also on the second half of backtoback. Uh I thought the Oilers played pretty decent. They definitely played way better than they did when I went to the game in Montreal last year at the Bell Center. Uh so for me as a fan traveling to watch this team on the road. Last year I went to Montreal, watched the Oilers lose 3 nothing. Tonight I watched them lose 4-3 in overtime. Um I might be cursed. This this might fall on me as a fan. Maybe I shouldn’t be going on the road and watching this team. Last night they lost in regulation to Seattle. Tonight they lose in overtime to Vancouver. Maybe I am bad luck. Uh Nation vacationers, if you’re tuning into this video at any point, I do apologize. I could be cursed right now uh when I go on the road. Uh I do love this sticker though. I attended a Nation vacation. I have to give a huge shout out to the Oilers Nation crowd by the way. Uh the fans that came on this vacation, uh the Others Nation crew, their media members, um they’ve all been great. They made me feel amazing. Um, a lot of you who are watching might not know, and for those of you who might know, I I went on this trip on my own. This was a solo trip. Uh, I didn’t have any friends on this trip, but the Others Nation crowd, they made me feel welcome. Uh, they brought me right in, made sure that I felt right at home. And this is why Oilers fans are the best. This is why I always pump up Oilers fans tires whenever I can because you all really are the best fans on the planet. I could not have asked for a better and more fun group of people to hang out with throughout the last 48 hours. Would I have liked to see two wins? Yes. Is it the end of the world that they did not get two wins? No. They are 44 and two in their first 10 games. Tomorrow there will be no day after discussion. It is a travel day for me. Uh and then they’re right back at it on Tuesday. Um another game. So, we’ll we’ll see how it goes here. Um, probably no live streams for the foreseeable future, just with work schedule, my league schedule in NHL 26. Um, we’ll we’ll see if the team can turn it around here. And of course, Zack Heyman, he’s going to be back very very soon. So, I wish I had more to talk about, honestly. I I really wish I do. Uh, these were just my raw general thoughts about the game tonight. I didn’t think they played poorly. I thought they could have came back and won when they made it 3-3. I I did convince myself that they were going to win, but it’s been a blast. It’s been an absolute blast. Got the Nation vacation sticker. Uh I got another sticker here. I am, of course, wearing one of the shirts that I won last night at the Black Frog Lounge, which was a blast to go to. Um yeah, it’s it’s been it’s been a blast. I’ve had a lot of fun. That’s all I have to say. If you enjoyed the uh video tonight, make sure to hit the like button. If you really like it, make sure to subscribe to the channel. and uh tell so much you love them. Fight like a kid, fight like Ben. Let’s go Oilers. I’ll see you all very, very soon. And um take care.

Leon Draisaitl had two goals, the Oilers came back from a 3-1 third period deficit, but in the end Thatcher Demko and the Vancouver Canucks come out on top with a 4-3 victory in overtime. The Oilers are improving their 5v5 play, but they still have another level to reach. The Canucks were without Quinn Hughes too… #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. Hey Austin I was trying to find you but either way I'll figure out how to get a Vancouver Canucks jersey but instead Hughes it'll be Kiefer Sherwood

  2. At this point we need to just call the oilers the Edmonton AHLers.

If we can't beat a team that is riddled with injuries then I fully do not expect the oilers to beat a team on the top of their game.
This should've on paper been a absolute blowout.
This season is beyond rough and we aren't even a quarter way in.

  3. As a Canucks fan I appretiate your relaxed perspective.. I guess it's easy to be chill when your team is so talented. You're pretty much a lock for the playoffs unlike Vancouver

  4. Hey I just thought I’d give you and others interested a prospect update on a few prospects

Other than Day it has been a struggle for the most part for the goaltending. Don’t know why Jonsson hasn’t been loaned to the SHL, we currently have three goalies in the ECHL which seems a bit overboard. Vinni , our second round pick two years ago has struggled in the Mestis which is concerning. With Salonen it looks like he is the starter which is a positive but his stats have been kinda bad.

Defenceman, sundin and Berry have to majorly develop to even be in a conversation of a maybe. Barnett is neither exceeding or underperforming. Yevseyev and Fischer look interesting.

Our forwards Lafreniere, Lewandowski and Park have all gotten off to good years. Denezhkin and undersized somewhat forgetten pick of a few years ago has been doing very good in the KHL. Berezkin hasn’t had the stats of the previous years but part of me believes it’s the classic KHL thing where when they know they are gonna lose a player they stop playing them. I also wanted to highlight that Jarventie has gotten to a fantastic start of the year.

  5. Calvin Pickard (Pecker) has allowed 17 goals in 4 games with a SV of .846 😂Both Oilers goalies are mediocre at best.😜 The Oilers need a couple more Draisaitls on their team.🤪

  6. Im getting sick and tired of this mcdavid goaless drought. He wants to demand to play for a contender, but yet he has 1 goal on the year?? Get your shit together mcdavid if you want to start demanding things! Kiefer sherwood is kicking your ass bro!!!

  7. Other than occasional Draisaitl goals, I dislike everything about the Oilers game this season. Bouch & Nurse worst defense in the league, goald-tending sub-par, coaching non-existing, attitude is like pre-season, line-blender, no effort, etc. We keep playing with the fire in Edmonton, hoping for bounce-backs Nov/Dec. Disconnects on all levels, Knob and Bowman pretend to think the same but they don't, McDavid and Draisaitl are overthinking every pass and have more turn-overs than successes, Eckholm is slow as a snail. The Habs outclassed us by a lot, look how they beat the Flames, the Canucks, probably tonight the Krakens and how they dominated circling around the Oilers. McDavid yet another year where he plays at 40% McDavid's level, Draisaitl plays well at most 10 min per game, the rest he stumbles on 'air'.

  8. Knoblaugh is great don't get me wrong, but if he can't motivate all of the lines to contribute then we're done. We cannot rely on McDrai for everything and grind them to death.

  9. So happy the canucks managed to squeak out a win with half a AHL roster. But the oilers need to show up for the entire 60 minutes, playing from behind like this won't win them a cup.

  10. I thought this was an instant loss for the Canucks considering the oilers are generally a better team and all of our injuries.
Surprised that we pulled it off and gives me confidence that we can still win with Hughes out of the lineup. Great game!

  11. Oilers are the kind of team to lose to vancouver and then win against Utah. Consistency is their biggest weakness during the season. Up and down like a yoyo.

  12. I've stopped watching the Oilers and won't watch anymore until there's changes. All I've seen so far, are a bunch of underachievers whenever I do check on them. Get rid of nurse, Skinner and nuge, nuge hasn't done sweet FA and needs to be moved asap. For a 1st overall pick he sure hasn't done diddly squat,
Pretty expensive for a novelty, and that's what he is.

  13. I agree with you that they put up way more of an effort with this game! With the way they were playing in most of the first period, for sure it was a win. It seems like they’re all over the place though and people aren’t always covering the right person… like too many times a Canucks player will be wide open! I agree that they have to stop trailing behind to get any momentum. We saw that all last season and it was frustrating! Loved bouche’s pass to Drai for the goal there. Loved Roslovic’s first goal! I think he’s going to be a huge asset to the team as time goes on, and he gets more experience with the team. Also loved how McDavid is driving to the goal more. Here’s to hoping things look up.

  14. OILERS loser team… dead place last in pacific 2026… SLOPPY and PICs are terrible goalies NOT worthy of cup final team mates… the opportunity is gone… not quality championship level… and it shows

  15. I'm so sick of these bullshit coaching decisions!! Putting nurse out in OT with RNH was all kinda of wrong!
Walman wins is OT 3 days ago and they didn't put him on the ice for at least the second line!?!?
It's just like Philp showing then getting benched 3 games!
Lines go in the blender every 2 minutes, no chemistry! Total garbage!
